The room itself was somewhat spacious. Our ski gear ended up making the room a little crowded. We were just happy that the beds were nice and comfortable. Our room was near the back door, so we were able to park toward the back of the hotel to have quick access to our vehicle. The Grand Lodge has a nice lobby area. I enjoyed hanging out in front of the fireplace late evenings. There is a fitness room and a gift store near the lobby that sells souvenirs, merchandise and personal items. There is a restaurant called the Highlife Crust & Crafts inside of this hotel. We didn't dine there, but I did grab a breakfast burrito one morning and got charged twice for it. So I had to return to get a refund. The food at Highlife is a little pricey. There are plenty of food options in the surrounding area if you want something more affordable. Overall, our stay here was good and we enjoyed the convenience of having a short walk to the ski resort.

The kitchenette is also great if you want to bring some of your own food. Yes, you may have a different experience based on where you reserve your room. We used Vrbo. The hotel is not brand new but honestly, who goes on vacation to stay in their hotel room and examine some paint chips on the wall? I'll definitely be back again.

This is a January 2022 review so it is recent and relevant…read more Be aware that the master "bedroom" that has a nice bathtub did not have a door installed. So, not only did the master bedroom not have a door, essentially the master bathroom did not have a door either. Please look at the property pics that show the bathtub in the master bathroom. During the stay we requested that the door be installed and they agreed but never got it done. The door was in the closet but the hinge hardware was missing so we could not hang it ourselves. The property description needs to state clearly that the master bedroom (master bathtub room) does not have a door so that guests in the living room below can hear every whisper and can also walk up the stairs to sneak up on you bathing, sleeping, getting dressed, etc. as there is no door! I left a 4 star review on VRBO saying that the property would be a 5 star if only the master bedroom door was installed. Kathy Reid then left a retaliatory 3 star renter review. So, in summary the property is misrepresented and be careful leaving a critical review on VRBO as they will then leave a revenge rating.

I have been skiing my whole life and have had Crested Butte on my list to ski for some time. I am glad that I finally made my way over here to ski their slopes. Crested Butte Mountain Resort is owned and operated by Vail Resorts. My buddy and I have Epic Passes and chose to ski here this past winter. This resort is geared toward intermediate to expert skiers as there are lots of blue and black runs. Overall, we had good snow and a fun weekend. We started our day off by taking Red Lady Express Lift from Base Area. We spent a lot of our time hitting the intermediate runs off of Paradise Express Lift. We eventually hit some black runs off of Silver Queen Express Lift. We didn't do it, but Rambo run is the steepest tree-defined ski trail in North America with a 55-degree pitch. That run looks insane. Crested Butte Mountain Resort opened in 1960. We stayed in town near the base of the resort and had a lot of fun. We were able to walk to the lift from our hotel. Crested Butte is a former coal mining town that is a popular tourist destination for outdoor enthusiasts. Mount Crested Butte is in the heart of the Elk Mountains and sits over 9,000 feet above sea level. The town is named after its iconic 12,168-foot mountain peak. You can see the peak while you ski from almost anywhere on the mountain.

Approximately 40% of skiing trails are marked as Double Black Diamond Extreme, so if you're looking for the most challenging terrain, then this is the place for you! But even if you're not an "advanced expert," then there are still plenty of runs that you can take it easy on... or that will push you to keep on learning and getting better! Of all the Vail Resorts, I feel like the Crested Butte team was the friendliest and most welcoming. Definitely try to plan your trip to Crested Butte for when they're getting some fresh powder, as most of the runs will be even more enjoyable! *****FIVE STARS*****
