I love açaí bowls and that was the original plan when I saw this food truck nearby at lunchtime. But at the last minute I decided to get something more protein packed, a poke bowl. I'm supposed to be watching my rice intake but I figured I eat half of it now and the rest the following day. And it's jasmine rice too which is one of my favorite grains. The guys in the truck were very fast and efficient in preparing my food and cashing me out. I went with the Datil Sauce Poke Bowl because I don't ever remember having datil pepper sauce on anything. One of the guys explained it of having a sweet taste at first before the spice kicks in. Sounds like fun. I got back to the office and dived in. Great addition to the Jax Food Truck Food Court. I don't eat out as much as Yelp makes it seem (giggle), but when I do its a mix between not the healthiest and uber healthy. At home, fruit, veggies and organic items are typical my go to. Sugary stuff, store bought junk food, etc have no place in my home so what better than having the same type of meal a few minutes from my office?! 1. Customer service was awesome. I engaged in interesting convo with the gentleman (friend of the owner) during my visit (their first visit at JFTFC). From the food court to healthy eating options, I felt like I reconnected w/an old friend (***all my fave trucks have awesome customer service). 2. I chose the children's size Shaka bowl, which was a nice portion for lunch. All ingredients were fresh, cold and naturally delicious. The acai mix had a nice frozen yogurty, smoothie texture and just the right amount of almond milk, so it didn't overpower the other flavors. Not sure if their granola is homemade (prob not), but the portion was spot on, if you need a little weight to the meal. read more

This was....a perplexing experience for me. I am a sucker for poke bowls and food trucks, so why not give this one a try? I ordered the spicy poke, while others ordered teriyaki. The food itself was tasty, the spicy had a zing but wasn't too hot. Some might say this was a bad quality, but I enjoyed not having to chug water just to get through my lunch. It also came chock full of veggies, and I definitely enjoyed coming away feeling energized rather than sluggish. But that's about where the good stops. Folks, these bowls are pretty small, and will run you around $12 for lunch. There are some expensive good trucks, for sure, but when you're playing in a market where customers are looking for fast, working-lunch options, no one wants to pay sit-down prices. Second, the bowl was overflowing, which should be nice but instead made a mess. I hate having to transfer food to another container. It causes more waste, and renders "to-go" containers pointless. Especially when, here's the kicker, I asked for the sauce on the side, and they put it IN my lid! So not only am I carrying this open container through my office building, but I have a container lid full of sauce that I'm juggling as well. Big Island Bowls was pretty good for my first try! I've always been iffy trying seafood off a food truck but I was very satisfied. When it comes to the visual appeal, not only was the exterior of the truck colourful and inviting, but the food was pleasing to the eye as well. Next time I would like to try one of their açaí smoothies since they look SO pretty! Aesthetics should be let it very dish. Another, taste. I ordered the Spicy Poké and it was tasty! Lots of flavours as well as texture - I loved the crunch with the cucumbers to compliment the raw fish. And it was very pretty! The serving was also the perfect size since if I had more I would've explode. My only complaints are that the rice wasn't as fluffy as you'd want in this dish and it was tad pricy- $12 for a bowl. We loved our experience with Big Island Bowls at Porchfest. Brendan was super helpful. We loved the Spicy Poke Bowl and the Hibiscus Acai Bowl. The hibiscus acai bowl was refreshing. We selected the apple juice blend and this went super well with the fruits mixed in the bowl. The Spicy Poke Bowl was good but could have used a bit more kick since we like our spicy...really spicy but just add extra siracha and it is good to go! read more

Great food truck for breakfast or a healthy/refreshing lunch. The size of the bowl is very generous and it is super filling for an entire meal. The base is made of an acai "smoothie" like blend with apple juice or almond milk. The toppings includes a variety of fruits (I.e. Strawberries, bananas, blueberries, etc.), granola, coco bits, coconut and others. The coconut was very fluffy and fresh! I really enjoyed this option. Holy açaí Batman!!! I've been waiting on a good açaí bowl for a while now. This truck delivers!! I went with the açaí bowl although they were also serving poke bowls (Which looked delicious! I snapped a picture of someone else's bowl. I'm that they didn't think I was crazy or anything. I was only snapping pictures like a mad woman!!) I got the hibiscus bowl with granola, strawberries, banana, goji berries, and honey. I added cocoa nibs for $.50 extra. Perfect mix of crunchy, sweet, cold... plain delicious!! I picked up a tuna bowl from this food truck and was totally impressed. I really did not think you can get this fresh food with a food truck. First off It's Big ISLAND bowls. Phone and fat fingers don't mix. This truck is making it's Jacksonville Debut tonight at Jaxson Night Market. They are from St. A and serve up some pretty tasty bowls of healthy stuff. I did order a Shaka bowl that entailed some acai frozen yumminess with granola, strawberries, and shaved coconut. It was served cold and had a nice creaminess to it. Then you got some crunch of the granola. It all worked out well even if it was healthy. I normally shy away from healthy but I will definitely find this truck again. read more

I don't often eat at food trucks. I feel they are often cliche and only build on previous exploited items like Asian fusion, cheese, or bacon. However while visiting my cousins in the St. Augustine area I found a phenomenal find in Big island bowls. I believe food should feel local, fresh, and unique whether it is or isn't. I also believe that good food comes from people who are passionate about it. You can tell that this is one of those places because I went 4 times! I went so much I thought I would have to convince the cute blonde working there I was just there for the food, but instead greeted with "Hey Kentucky! Back again?" Yes...yes I am. The bowls are bursting with sweet and tart flavors, color, texture and absolutely zero guilt while enjoying the combination. I've had so many great meals while visiting, but this is the one that stood out, and it's because I felt like I wanted to enjoy the day more after eating it versus taking a nap. It was basically vacation in my mouth! Can't wait to go back next year! read more
