Overall a bad experience with Big island Mopeds. First thing, never sent an invoice after calling over a month in advance. Told us they would have to find some for us because they booked out and forgot about us. 4 teenagers met us with the mopeds and gave us the worst ones. One was all scratched up, torn seat, and had to kick start. Second one was incredibly loud and we were told "it was being worked on" and also had a torn seat. We contacted them to get a newer one since the loud one was obnoxious and we were paying good money for a week. They said they had to check the inventory. Asked us to meet them in a bad part of town random apartment complex to exchange bikes. The bike they did give us hadn't been run in years and wouldn't start properly. Proceeded to tell us "if it doesn't start then that's why" When returning, teenagers were more late for pick up then had an attitude when we had to leave because we had a dinner reservation. WOULD NOT recommend again. read more

I had a great experience working with Peter! Watching the sunset at old kona airport per his recommendation as we speak. There's no address listed because he will meet you in kona. Moped rentals were a fun way to get around. No, they don't go super fast. Probably 35 mph? He was super friendly and worked to get my sister in law comfortable riding. When she didn't feel comfortable, he let me ride alone and return at the end of the day instead of for the full 24 hours. I thought the price was affordable and it was easy to meet up with him. If we return to the Big Island, I will probably use him again. read more

I decided to rent a single moped from Big Island mopeds for three days on my trip to Kailua Kona last week and it was one of the most fun experiences!!!! They were super flexible, had great service, and were very up front with everything! I loved riding the moped around town so much that I asked them if I could get a couple more days with the bike and they were very helpful and let me do so by just sending me a simple link to fill out to get the next two days going! The team at Big Island Mopeds was super friendly and it's a small business that you should definitely try out! Riding the moped around town and to see some amazing scenery was easily one of the highlights of my trip so I would 11/10 recommend renting one! So much fun altogether! read more

In a nut-shell, great to do business with, good equipment, competitive prices, prompt and friendly service. I would highly recommend! Now the details... We planned out our vacation well in advance and all of my communication with Big Island through email, text, and phone calls was excellent with quick responses every time. I'm sure like everyone else, I chose Big Island based up on reviews but even then it's always a crap shoot. But I'm here to tell you that it was an excellent gamble. The folks at Big Island were prompt, provided great equipment, gave us a bit of a discount since we rented four mopeds for a full week, and the entire experience from initial reservation, to the return of the bikes, was seamless and trouble free. The price we paid was a bit less than a couple other shops I had looked into, and these guys not only delivered them to us, but they picked them up when we were done after the week's rental. Each bike came with a helmet, safety glasses, and a highly recommended cable lock for those times the bikes are parked. There aren't many places on the Big Island where you cant legally ride these - essentially anywhere it's legal to ride a bicycle, just use common sense to decide if it's a good idea to ride in that location or not. Point being, there are lots of places to go and explore on the bikes, and an evening trip up and down Ali'i Drive a time or two is a hoot. Go for it! read more

Ryan hooked it up with 4 mopeds for my family and I yesterday. I did a little research and found they had some straight reviews and had a decent price, so I decided to call this company. Two hours later after we visit the lobster farm we met up Ryan at the Outback Steakhouse to see 4 matching orange mopeds. The mopeds we had overall were in pretty great shape, nothing really noticeable. They top out at about 35mph except this one bike that topped out about 43mph. We had 2 bikes that kind of choked before you start it at times . I think maybe it had a weak battery. I'm sure if I said something sooner they would have done something about it. Seems like an honest legit company even though meeting at the Outback was a bit weird, but hey they got it done. They were nice and informative. I would definitely use them again. read more

I've been renting mopeds on the Island for years, and Big Island Mopeds is definitely the best!! Super helpful and wonderful staff, and they deliver to you at no cost. The scooter was new, but even in past visits, the scooter's I've rented from them have always been well maintained. For those of you who've never rented a scooter before, Andreas takes as much time as you need to walk through the basics and make sure you feel comfortable.
