Do not do business with these people. I bought a bike from them. A year later I was moving back to the mainland and they said they would buy my bike back from me for half the cost I paid. I agreed. The day I'm leaving I show up and drop my bike off and Carl says "Oh sorry bro, we dont have the cash right now." I'm annoyed but I have to catch a flight so we do the paperwork and I leave my bank information so they can wire me the money answer I leave. Late review. When I rented the scooter, it was in September. I knew how to drive a stick shift car, ATV and jet ski, but never rode a motorcycle or moped. Brayden was very patient and gave me lessons down the back road on the basic fx, kill switch and walked me thru until I was comfortable riding by myself. I practiced the residential areas and then felt comfortable enough on the main roads. Being a first time rider, I was given one that was scratched up and I wouldn't have it any other way. I wouldn't want to damage it any further and risks paying for my negligence. Prior to renting it out, you take pictures and mark the scratches on the rental form. The only downside was that my speedometer was broken and I didn't know how fast I was going, but rule of thumb for any driver is to just follow the flow of the road. We're on an island, so it's more relaxed than the Bay Area hwy. After you're ready to return ur moped, there's several gas stations by the shop to refill the gas and it didn't require much nor did it cost much (prior to inflation prices). read more

We stayed in Maui for 10 days, and probably received the worst service at Maui Scooter Shack. We called around to get pricing in Kihei, and since the prices were in the same ballpark -- we decided to go with these folks since their reviews were relatively decent compared to their competitors. When we arrived, Bashar checked us in. He was a bit sarcastic with some of the questions we had (as if we were already supposed to be experts in scooters?!) -- no big deal, I can take humor on most levels. He explained the pricing, we signed some paperwork, and we were on our way within 30 to 40 minutes. He did say that our '24 hour clock' started as soon as we checked out our mopeds -- I thought that meant as soon as we took the mopeds off the lot, and not once we started signing paperwork. The extra 30 to 40 minutes makes a difference when you need to get to a gas station (as usual, you need to return the moped with a full tank of gas) on the highly congested road of Kihei. We were supposed to return the moped by 1:30pm, and I called to ask if we could return it by 2pm since we needed to ride from the beach to go pump gas. Bashar in a snooty tone responded, "well, you are actually supposed to return them by 1pm but that's fine." Geez. Being friendly and kind can go a long way. We arrived at about 1:30pm to return our scooters. After we all evaluated the mopeds, he charged us for a scuff on the right side of my scooter. I did share I was not aware of the scuff, and I didn't drop it while riding. Bashar did acknowledge that the scuff appeared to have surfaced while the moped was idle. I'm going to assume it was done while it was parked without my being present. In his words, "it still happened while it was in your possession so I will have to charge you for it." The charge isn't what bothered me, but the way the messaging was delivered did -- no compassion, no intentions in further investigation to see if there could be a pardon, and ending the discussion with a pretty obvious stance of irritability. At the end, I asked him for a final invoice to indicate that the mopeds were returned. With a tone that lacked the spirit of Hawaiian Hospitality, he replied that such request could not be honored as that was not part of their process. Nonetheless, I didn't appreciate the service and would not recommend this spot to anyone in my network. One extra star because the mopeds themselves were a great resource for a bit of sightseeing. Service can go a long way. In fact, it can create a larger pipeline to referrals for much more business. read more

We picked up our scooters on Saturday at 3 pm with Carl and dropped off at 10am on Sunday with Beshar. We did not rent these for 2 days. And only drove these about 5 miles total. Hawaiian cruisers only charged us $5 total for both of us for gas and your place charged us $20 to TOP off the gas right across the street. Not looking to go back and forth about this. Plain and simple you guys need better customer service and better prices for the quality of your bikes. read more

I'm pretty sure my entire life changed because of this business. Haha! (Kinda not joking though) My husband and I rented them for a day and as soon as I walked up, I was like nope in my mind. Never done it. Too scared. No way. But with so much encouragement from my husband AND the absolute coolest dude in Maui I'm convinced, Carl, I did it! Carl wasn't gonna let me not try to be honest. He also wasn't going to let me fail so he made sure and showed me how to do everything and made sure I was comfortable. Which was so amazing and I got over so many fears I didn't even know I had! I stopped by here earlier today with my wife for our daily shave ice. Maui scooter shack as you may have guessed rents out scooters on the island and is located in the open market of Kihei. What you may or may not know is that they also sell Shave Ice. We learned this by the humorous sign of a cat licking shave ice which is actually what drew us in. For our shave ice on this day my wife and I decided to split a large one with ice cream at the bottom and then coconut and pineapple syrups on top. The ice here was nicely shaved and even though it melted fast it didn't end up as hard ice. It also held the syrup nicely instead of letting it all pass through. The syrups themselves were sweet but not overly so and had a nice flavor to them. All of this combined for a nice shave ice which I really ended up enjoying. The bottom line for me is that I would head back here again in the future. I certainly wasn't expecting it but Maui Scooter Shack made a good shave ice. read more

Rented scooters from Bashar and returned them the next day to Brayden. Great experience. Came with a group of 8. Some of us have ridden and some of us had no experience. I should have known better not to rent from this place. When I arrive another customer is complaining that he is being charged for not completely filling up the tank of gas. The customer said he just filled and left the gas station. Im not sure what really happened but the customer was very upset. I assume it's the customers fault. Then while I am filling out my paperwork someone else comes in and asks for his 3 bikes he reserved with a credit card. Apparently they did not hold the bikes ....even the customer said he was early.... and was upset asking whats the deal here? The guy at the store had no patience with this guy and was very rude to him. The guy said he was a return customer (local guy) and this is how he is treated? We rented 3 bikes and went on our way. One of the bikes was brand new thought we were getting something special but it had a bad battery and I had to kick start my girlfriends bike all the time. She wasn't strong enough to kick start it. And she isn't no weakling she can out hike me!! My SECOND and BIGGEST problem was I was told the store closes at 5pm and have the bike back or be charged another day. I arrive at 4:20 pm. Nobody is there! So I call the number listed and get a recording. I leave several messages that I'm here and don't know what to do with the bikes and helmets. Nobody calls me back and a hour later I finally leave. I leave the keys and helmets with another store shop in the building.(They told me this has happened several times) Leaving the bikes outside and a bit concerned about their safety. Like most of us I got a plane to catch and don't want to deal with it the next day. AND I don't to be billed for another day or damage charges. So GO SOMEWHERE ELSE!! Last week we were looking for a place to rent scooters at the last minute so that our friends from Colorado could experience the drive from Kihei to Makena with the sun & sea at our sides. I live on Maui and knew that everything closes early on a SUNDAY & our chances would be slim. We contacted Maui Scooter Shack at ~3:00 PM, but they were set to close at 5:00PM that day. We had a group of 7 people & wanted to rent the scooters out for 2 hours. Bashar, who helped us over the phone & at the shack, quickly contacted his boss & worked everything out for us. They were gracious enough to STAY OPEN FOR US & Bashar gladly obliged to stay & work overtime so that we could enjoy our ride. (I believe they did this for us 2 years ago as well. We had another group of 7, riding for 2 hours) We got there at 4:30, quickly filled out their forms, & were on our way. It was that easy. They provide a chain / lock with the moped so you can park your ride & enjoy the scenery . We rolled back into the shack shortly before 7 PM & we were SO thankful to Bashar for all that he did for us that day. Now THAT is great service for you. I would highly recommend Maui Scooter Shack to anyone with their affordable rates, great customer service, & friendly staff. They lie to your face and steal your money, then tell you they won't EVER stand behind, and correct, the so-called work they do on it! I thought they were my friends, but actually they're just greedy; it's a sham operation and, it seems, all employees are complicit in the deceit (seriously caught them all "red handed" lying to my face!). Reading the other "1 star reviews"... yup, they name the individuals and I don't put any of it past them at this point! I got screwed out of almost half of what the bike is worth!!
