My mother doesn't eat catfish but she loves fried perch. She is now a fan. If you can make my mama happy, you have made me happy. I got the everything gizzards. I realized this most be an Illinois thing. Since being in Texas I can't get my gizzards this way. Now the place is small, there is hardly anywhere to sit. Fillets were very thin. They were a dark yellowish brown because the fry oil had not been changed and produced a rancid smell in my car which my wife commented on two hours later. I got a chicken sandwhich and the meat was incredibly hard, and very chewy and honestly lacked flavor, it was supposed to be a nashville hot chicken but there was no sauce. I additionally got the 5 piece meal of dark chicken and it was not very crispy or seasoned at all. The fries were warm, crispy and well seasoned. I also got fried mushrooms and jalapeños fried which were soft and soggy. I paid around 38 bucks and then delivery and all with DoorDash, it was pretty disappointing. read more

One of the few places in Illinois I visit on a regular basis. Best chicken I found but definitely not southern fried. Works for being above the Mason Dixon line. They throw some lemon pepper on it and that be good. The have other stuff like fish and seafood options, some fish that you just can't get anywhere. read more

Food here is very good. My other half is a Louisiana native and also approves. The catfish fillets are good sized with crunchy breading and flaky tender fish. Sometimes they go a little too heavy on the seasoning, but it all gets eaten. Catfish platter comes with 3 huge pieces of catfish, fries, and 2 slices of white bread. They offer a selection of desserts, which are prepared by another local business or vendor. Banana pudding (pretty good), peach cobbler (not good, sorry), Red velvet cake (other half liked it). When u are hungry for food in general, this is the place to go with their huge menu with everything from A to Z. Specials everyday of the week. Three coolers of different drinks to choose from and can also take home cold 2 liters. Everything cooked to order which takes roughly 15 mins. if ordering fish or chicken. I ordered the 8 piece mix which was crunchy and seasoned well with what they shake on top after deep frying. The pieces were big and cut well. This came with fries and 4 pieces of white bread for $11.49! I also ordered 2 sides, 1 okra and 1 hush puppies at $2.99 each. Also 2 sides of spaghetti out of the front cooler. The spaghetti was surprisingly good! The 2 containers was around $4.50 for both. This meal was the best take out meal i have had for many years! I will be going back! I had dinner at this place a few nights ago. I knew I was at a REAL fried chicken place when they told me my order would take about 15 minutes to make because everything is made to order and not sitting under a heater for hours on end. The chicken was awesome; crispy on the outside and super tender on the inside. I also had banana pudding for dessert which was probably the best i've ever had. Everything about this restaurant felt real. From the quality of the food to the friendly service. I consider this place a hidden gem in Peoria. Will definitely be back soon! Their online ordering system was not receiving orders properly. So I show up and wait (unfortunately there was another order name that was the same as mine) so when I get called I find it's not the same order and it's not till I've been there for 10 mins (order was due at 05:29) that I find out my order was never received. So they restart their "system" and finally my order comes up and rather quickly (too quickly) my food is cooked and bagged. I got catfish steak the Saturday special. Wasn't actually your definition of fish steak it was more just bone in filets and other parts fried. Which you couldn't even eat fried cause of the sporadic bones all over. But it was made so quickly that not all parts of the fish was done so about 1/4 of the fish was wasted. read more

The pictures posted are a good representation of how the place looks. It is clean (far cleaner than most fast food places in Peoria). I've gone to many JJ's in several cities in Illinois and this is one of the better ones. Had catfish nuggets on two occasions which were good if a bit overcooked. The fries were done well. Do not order the catfish. In fact, you might not want to go at all since "Fish" is supposedly 50% of what they want to be known for. They are no longer using quality fish, there were bones left in and the state of the steaks makes me think it is some kind of deformed mutant straight out of a very polluted portion of the Illinois River. I will update you on the food poisoning I am now sure to experience. Not even the ridiculous amount of seasoning salt they put on EVERYTHING could cover the disturbing flavor. The place has really gone downhill, and the service is complacent at best. UPDATE: Just puked. No extra effort required on my part. Will request refund. I'm glad to see this place has one other review and that it is a 5 star also, cuz I was feeling a little odd for giving a fast food chain joint so many stars. However, it totally deserves it. The menu is soooo extensive and everything we had was top notch. I don't usually care for fried food since I feel that the breading just covers up bad food. Not the case here. I had the fried walleye and thinking I would just try a bite before passing it on, I ate the whole thing and wanted more. The seasoning on that thing was spot on and so was the crispiness of the batter, while the inside was fresh, juicy white fish. Definitely going back for more! The next thing I tried was the dry rub spicy-garlic wings and damn they were spot on too! Fantastic seasoning! Lastly was the beef sandwich wish was done Chicago style and above average. I will never buy from here again. I ordered through door dash and asked for it to be extra saucy. I get my food and there is NO sauce on it at all, just a lot of lemon pepper. When I call she says that you asked for sauce and I didn't know what you were talking about so I gave you extra seasoning. Sauce does not equal seasoning! When I drove to get the sauce she gives me 2 and I ask for one more and she tries to charge me 39 cents for it! Then she tried to cover up my inconvenience with me not specifying what sauce. Any sauce would do but you gave me no sauce at all! She then very rudely continued to make the next order and talk to the other customer.
