All the major departments - produce, meat, seafood, dairy, were stocked almost to overflowing, with good regular and sale prices displayed prominently. The store is brightly lit and the aisles are wide. There are 2 self-checkouts. The employees here are really friendly and chatty. If it ever expands (and if it does well, it should be considered), add some more hot food stations and a salad bar.

The deli, meat and seafood departments are neighbors and the selection of prepackaged meals are vast. The seafood options are also plentiful. I went with the intention of buying dinner, but literally had no clue what I was going to prepare. I only knew it would be something healthy so I perused the produce and seafood sections. Behold the end-cap with the portioned fish fillets and steaks. One piece of ahi tuna begging me to take it home was snatched up along with a bag of steamed veggies from the produce section. Price Chopper places coupons on items with a next day sell date so I saved a $1 on the veggies. The tuna was very well priced, an 11 ounce steak for $6.02. In the end, I had a delicious and healthy meal for less than $8. #winning Our cashier was extremely friendly and provided some useful around town tips once he learned we were visiting from out of town. The store was well stocked and the bakery featured a large selection of prepackaged and fresh baked goods. Strawberry shortcakes were on sale for $4.99, that's a real NY bargain! Finally, the entrance featured lots of vendor items such as candy machines, the claw machine and a Redbox. I will definitely return to this store if I need additional groceries while in town.

Was making a dish tonight, had my sauce all prepared, opened up the package of chicken and started to put the chicken thighs in when the most grotesque odor hit my nose that I nearly threw up. The chicken was absolutely beyond rotten. I check every date on anything I buy at that store because I've ended up with dozens and dozens of spoiled product. I didn't know you actually had to unwrap the chicken to smell it now too! Of course, all this resulted to me having to remake the sauce, which cost me more money and time, and had to go back to that miserable store and get the chicken replaced. Did they offer to cover the cost of the other ingredients I lost because of the spoiled chicken? Of course not they just hand me back my $8.52 from the spoiled package of chicken. I wish I could give this place negative stars and avoid it 100% but sadly they're the only grocery store within 20 miles and they print money because of the tourists so they have zero motivation to change or get better. Price Chopper and Market 32 you should be absolutely ashamed of this poor excuse for a store.

The produce is fantastic and is monitored by the amazing and friendly produce manager, George. The facility is clean; the employees are helpful. This year some new front end associates came in; AJ, Nate, Juan, and a sweet girl who's nametag I can never see.... They are so well trained, and so kind. The experience is enjoyable each and every time I go in.

I'm reviewing Charlie John's as a Bookstore-Café. Because there's one little table in the back by the deli, and we had (seriously) a delightful time there after a few dozen banal visits for groceries and supplies. First off, the made to order sandwiches -- we got egg salad and tuna salad -- are quite good. The Broccoli salad was as good a one as I've ever had, although I suspect that was because there were little bits of ham in it we didn't notice until after we started eating it (we are not dogmatic vegetarians, and occasionally fall off the wagon anyway). The deli staff were extremely pleasant, and I don't mean this as a knock on any particular establishment, but during the busy summer season that really stands out among other more harried employees of some businesses I shan't mention. And then we had the added pleasure of being able to talk directly to a half dozen patrons, as we were blocking the access to pork roll, ground turkey, and littleneck clams from our perch at the sole table. Second: the bookstore. CJ's has a half a row of books in the camping section, plus another stub for maps and guidebooks, and honestly, I think I've been in every bookstore in the ADK, I think this has the best-curated books of local interest. They have some truly small-press low-print-run titles here, from a biography of Nick Stoner to a history of the Moose Plains Wilderness. It's fun just to browse and while you can't buy everything, we always make it a point to buy something. That's when it occurred to me: we were having as enjoyable a time as we have at bookstore cafés. I mean, this sure beats Barnes and Noble. So having not bothered to review Charlie John's before -- what else is there to say about the best small grocery store in the ADK that hasn't been said in other reviews -- and convey to you that you now have a secret rainy day destination. It has a decent selection for a smaller town. There's a deli, produce section, dairy aisle, meat department. Everything you would expect from a grocery store with a smaller selection -- although they really do try here. I wish there was more produce to choose from but I'm spoiled coming from the Midwest.
