Big mamas used to have 2 locations a couple blocks away from each other on each side of the highway the one I went to was on 72nd it is now closed so for ambiance doesn't really matter , service was prompt when I walked in , wasn't the greatest smelling area, but it was clean probably why they don't have that shop area no more. The main event food was good it was a little on the pricey side but in my opinion is worth it decent size burritos and we got 2 drinks. Big Mama's is big on flavor. It was our first official day in Colorado, it was Emily's birthday weekend and she wanted breakfast burritos to start it off on a delicious note. After a few minutes, she found Big Mama's Burritos and said that was our destination... so we all loaded up in Sammy's car and headed that way. As we pulled up, I made a comment about how I saw it on our drive into town just 12 hours ago. In the dark, it looked rundown and closed. In the summer morning sunshine, it didn't look much better but in we went. On the wall across from you as you enter, they have a white board with their daily specials on it. The deal is a burrito for $5 with egg, potato, meat, cheese, and chile. The meat inside is what rotates daily and Saturday happened to be ham. I bought Emily and my burrito and it was only $10 and change. Not knowing the size of the burrito, we didn't know if that was a good deal or not. We waited in the small building while people kept pouring in and ordering food. While there is room to sit down and eat, there isn't much space if there's anyone else seated. I made the mental note that despite the look of the place, the amount of people coming and going was a lot. After about 10 minutes, all 4 of us had our burritos and we headed out to get coffee and continue the day. We stopped at Subjective Coffee to get some caffeine and eat our haul. As we unrolled our burritos, you could tell it was filled to the brim. Emily and I dug in first since Sammy and Kero were still waiting for their coffees. The first bite was pure bliss and each bite after that only got better and better. For $5, this may have been the best burrito I have ever had. Sure, I've had fancier ones and bigger ones but for just the price alone... this was the best thing ever. Emily, Sammy, and Kero thought the same and we were all delighted that despite the shady look of the place... we had some bomb burritos to start our day. We stayed in Colorado for another 3 days and there wasn't a day where I didn't mention how I would be okay with going back for more. Even if the food was just so-so, the price alone made it worth it... not with just how expensive everything is getting but with how pricey Colorado can be. If I could rate this place a zero I would. I've been coming to big mamas for years, the food used to be delicious. But since the second restaurant shut down you guys have gone down hill. Your employees are extremely rude when THEY messed up the order. Your cook in the back DOES NOT know how to roll burritos correctly. You guys do not put enough meat in the burritos for them to be priced at price they are listed. I called to talk to the manager and they blocked my number. Extremely Unprofessional. Family owned or not you have a responsibility to serve customers food they we can actually eat and make sure we are SATISFIED. I'm extremely disappointed. It's a solid burrito for less than $4. It's actually better than solid, it's phenomenal. The flavor and value cannot be beat in Denver. Seriously. My favorite is the Ham. BigMama is everything you want to find in a breakfast burrito - perfect tasting, consistency and flavor. The burrito was humongous -- it'll take a very motivated and hungry individual to complete it. It's jam-packed yet is simply made with the man ingredients - potato, egg, cheese and your choice of meat, which I specially like. I know there are places that like to get creative and their burritos always have some strange mush inside. What I like most about BigMama burritos is that the egg is fluffy, the meat is well distributed. The employees are very nice and friendly. This restaurant is really expensive for being a hole in the wall kind of place, and I've had better Mexican food. Also their customer service needs improvement!!! While I was in the middle of ordering, the cashier answered the phone, and instead of asking the caller to hold please, she began taking their order! After the phone call was finished, the cashier had the audacity to say "sorry about that, you wanted a burrito?" So rude!! 2 handheld breakfast burritos (not even smothered bc apparently they charge $2 extra to put the chile on the outside rather than the inside) and a bowl of menudo was nearly $30. This place is small but packs so many flavor punches. The very best breakfast tacos, I have had in Colorado. I'm from texas they have there salsas dialed in on the heat scale. Since my partner in crime is away with her family for a few days and my funds are depleted from Christmas shopping, I have resorted to going to places that (a) I have a coupon; and (b) I have never been before. Tonight I tried Big Mamas, and ended up purchasing 2 burritos for $5 with the coupon from the Entertainment Book. I ordered two burritos -- a shredded pork with cheese and shredded beef with cheese. The standard burritos come with a protein and chili (mild, medium, hot), but the cheese is extra. I found the meat to be a little salty, and the medium chili was tasty and not too spicy. With the exception of the tortilla, the food seems to be made fresh. One filled me up, so the size is pretty decent. I prefer these burritos over Qdoba because they are not full of unnecessary rice and beans like Qdoba's burritos. Tried it (Check), now on to the next place. read more
