We went to Big Nicks on 9/23/17 to celebrate my boyfriend's birthday. He ordered a drink and ten minutes later after everyone else received their tea or water, he went to check on his drink. He came back with a beer and said that they didn't have the ingredients for the drink. The waitress should have let us know, he shouldn't have had to go check on it himself. It took about 30 minutes just to get appetizers. They were also out of fried green tomatoes. The waitress did not check on us often. We had to ask for drink refills and I had to ask for tarter sauce a couple of times. The food is usually good but I will not be going back anytime soon because the service was so bad. read more

If you're big on ribs, then you'll be big on Nick's. I travel the South and these are among the best I've had. It's unusual to find excellent ribs and outstanding sides to boot. I had the Rib Dinner with potatoe salad and baked beans. By far the best $$ I've spent in a while. The Ribs were packed with Smokey goodness and fall off the bone tender. Initially, I loved this place. Great salad, lots of good stuff. Then I started finding rotten lettuce in the salad, and on everything else. Green lettuce turning black and slimy and nasty. The wife and I tried big nicks a few weeks ago and I can honestly say it was incredible! I was a bit skeptical of the restaurant with it having mediocre reviews, however when it comes to food quality you can't find any better in Valdosta. I work for Valdosta State University, and we had a company event that Big Nick's catered. The food arrived late and cold in warmers with no fire to the burners. Guest were ready to eat, so had to eat cold food. The collard greens could have cooked another hour because they were hard. Ribs were not appealing to sight, for they looked like miniature bricks. Bake beans were extremely cold fresh out the can, and the potato salad fresh out the container. Only item on the menu that was tasty was the Macaroni and cheese. I was very disappointed, and felt Big Nick's did not hold up to what a few people are saying is good. Now that you know better, Do better. read more

Ate there today - a Thursday. I'm a very picky diner - BBQ in particular as I compete in BBQ competitions. Driving through Valdosta stopped to take our son, a VSU student to dinner. 3 dinners ordered. Pulled pork sandwich on texas toast with fries. Sandwich was great. Tons of pulled pork. BBQ sauce similar to the one I make my own. Great smoke flavor - not too much. only $7.99. 20 wings - SURPRISE - they are on sale for happy hour. Only $10 for 20. Good size wings, fresh. Got garlic parmesan and traditional. My man wan on POINT. Finally - ribs - the 6 rib. They are spares - not St. Louis cut. Flavor was awesome. I mean - REALLY good. If I were to knock them they will a little over as they were falling apart. That said - this is a restaurant not a BBQ competition and it's impossible to keep ribs that need 5 hours +/- to cook at perfect temp. Also - the fried okra - holy crap its good. I want to take a moment and tell you about this place. Stopped there based on the other Yelp reviews. This unassuming gem is a must do. You're greeted with "Welcome to the Family" which being on the F&B business is such a great greeting. We had some hiccups due to some of our group having food restrictions or severe allergies. The rest of us had great food. OMG the Shrimp and Grits was incredible and I'm a yankee and not a fan of grits. Also not a fan of GA BBQ Sauce but their mustard blend was delicious. Others had the ribs and wings and enjoyed everything. They were so accommodating and I hated to rerun the food that my allergy daughter got. Our server was very sweet even though we had to return food twice. That was just a small issue and didn't dampen the experience except for my daughter but we have that issue everywhere. Fried green tomatoes have been the best I have had in a long time. Batter not too thick and the flavor is perfect. The French fries are cooked perfect a little crunch on the outside. The wings could have been cooked a little longer to give it that crunch on the outside and the hot sauce could be hotter. I deff will be back to try other things in the menu read more

This is my 3rd trip here. Each time it gets worse. I came and sat at the bar. Maybe that was wrong, but i didn't know since there was no host on duty, or at the door rather. Sat at the bar with tattered bar stools and the counter was sticky. The selection of liquor is minimal and to my surprise a mid level liquor is $7.00. It took about 5 minutes to be recognized. I placed my order and again to my surprise they were out of Mac and Cheese. Strange at 3pm on a Sunday. As i write this, a server is rolling silverware with her bare hands at a table with the utensils in a pitcher of water and a microfiber cloth to dry with. She keeps placing this cloth back on the bare table. Which I'm sure is as sticky as this bar is. I won't be coming back here. In fact I'm dropping the review to 1 star due to what I'm seeing. Now someone is texting at the table with the silverware wrapper. Silverware wrapper just yelled across the room, "don't sit there, it's broken." she was referring to the table a customer was about to sit at. I'm shocked. Oh, now they do have Mac and cheese but are out of something else i ordered. Did i mention i was asked to pay for all of this right after i ordered it. I hope this at least tastes good. read more

No we replied, both ordered water, then fried green tomatoes, and our entrees. I ordered the catfish basket with Mac & cheese, fries and hush puppies. My husband ordered the Wizzy OMG. Two other tables we seated. We got our tomatoes, very greasy. Then the wait was on. The other two tables we served their entrees and we waited and waited. We asked why the two tables we served before us she made up some excuse and left. I asked for another water. Never came.Finally the food came, asked again for water , my husbands dinner fine. My fries were cold the Mac cheese was cold. When the girl came back I asked for cocktail sauce and told her my problem with the food. She says she would redo the sides. I also asked again for cocktail sauce, and I was told then they ran out. I then asked for tarter sauce. Waited for another 5 min. And finally went to the front to get some myself. It was rediculous. She finally came back with the fries NO MAC BECAUSE THEY RAN OUT AND IT WOULD BE 20 MINUTES BEFORE IT WAS DONE. She came back with the check and they took only $5.00 off for all the crap we went through. Oh finally got my water when we we all done along with the bill. Nice huh. !!!! His mom was very rude a disrespectful to my mother...my parents came to town to cut my grass so they had a trailer hooked behind their car with a huge lawnmower ect. We pulled into subway to grab food TOGO and there's just nowhere to park your car and it's really hard to back out a trailer my mom was driving and my dad stayed behind to weed eat. So keep in mind a female driver with a lawnmower trailer backing up I may very narrow place. No lol for her safety just no. So we pulled to the side of big Nick's where we could drive straight out. And His mom looked at me and said "if you're going to subway move your car!" In a very rude hateful tone. I was gonna be in there for just a second and honestly I don't know why that bothers her that much. I like big Nick's but I can't get past anyone thinking and caring more about the fude they have going on with subway or caring more about themselves then looking at the situation; ok we got a trailer, she's kindve older and needs a place to park for just one second. You could blatantly tell we were parked there so we could drive straight out. I could understand if it was a Friday or Saturday night and there was very limited parking and I took up his parking spot and caused him to lose business over no parking.....but it was also a Tuesday morning at like 11. They'd just opened and had maybe two tables. Plenty of parking spots to be filled by the time I'd come back with my sub. Maybe y'all should settle your beef and call it truths.
