UPdate to my last update. WHEN WILL I LEARN? MAYBE NOW I WILL REMEMBER NOT TO GO TO BIG TIRE FOR OIL CHANGES? Unfortunately, I did not heed my own advice as posted in 2024. My issue? Going in for synthetic oil changes and being charged 4x's more than quoted specials + coupons. I am so tired of trying to understand their invoicing. And, now I have had it and I vow NEVER TO RETURN. Case in point, They had a March oil change special advertised at $49.99 "$49.99 Healthy Car Special includes: * Full synthetic oil change up to 5 quarts * Free tire rotation * Free alignment check * Free brake check * Free multi-point vehicle inspection * Belts & hoses check * Fluid check * Free windshield wiper fluid top-off* I do get new filters 1 x per year. So how much did my oil change actually cost? $150 plus change === and this is with a supposed $80 discount. Ironically, when I compare this year's oil change to my last one, I was charged $44 for "labor" this year - whereas last year's oil change was $177 with discounts but there was no labor charge. I have my last 2 oil change invoices. They do not do a line by line cost for parts - so I really have no idea what the filters cost. I assume between $50 and $60 each. I lived in Illinois most of my life and had only 2 mechanics. The first one retired and sold his business. The second one, I still call him on occasion for advice. I have been in ABQ 5 years now and still have not found my shop and my mechanic. It is sad and shameful!. read more

After going back a couple of times to get the snap replaced, if they lost on the car, I finally was greeted by a new person, and apparently the hands of staffing changes and the gentleman was helping initially, and the Repair person. PART I I became a new customer at Big-O in January, 2026 - what a disgusting mistake. This is June 4. I got an estimate from the Big-O store on Juan Tabo to repair the A/C in my car in March. I didnt know when I would be able to do the job; it is a very expensive job. The Service Advisor at the counter was very nice and helpful; and, gave discounts where he could, to help me have the lowest possible price for what I needed. I had to figure out how to get the job done. I had applied for and received a Big-O card - then figured I should have the A/C work done at Big-O, and use the card. The first week of May, I called to schedule the appointment. The job included replacing the Condensor, Compressor Drier, Expansion Valve, etc. The day before the appt, "Mr. Cigarettes and Whiskey" (Mark, the Manager) called and just said point blank "Don't come into this store; I am cancelling your appointment, and find someone else." It was unbelievable how rude, gross and insulting Mark was for no reason to someone like me he had never having had any dealings with - and how he messed up years of plan ing for the A/C job, and contributed to the bizarre and absurd situation at the Big-O on Menaul, because of his ignorance and apparent ego problem. Spring 2026 was amazingly hot and miserable. I wasn't going to go to just any Big-O just because of what Mark/"Mr. Cigarettes and Whiskey" did. I became a new Big-O customer in January, 2026 and already had a horrible experience in April w/Gabby, who runs the Bernalillo store - who readily turns a blind eye to her mechanics who bring in the cars of friends and family; but raised a huge stink when one of her mechanics took an interest in helping me in January. His attempt to help me made Gabby bizarre. Gabby was clearly jealous; she has an explosive female temper; she made it clear her mechanic was not allowed to help me. Gabby said my last day there in April that "She is the one who allows, or doesnt allow her employees to help people," as Gabby rudely shouted at me across the room as I was on my way out of the store to talk to the mechanic about the car and go home. Gabby was very loud. She tokd me to stop seeing her Mechanic, and refused to allow me to have one last word with him about the car even thougj I had been sitting in that waiting room all day long. Additionally, Gabby decided to put her bottom in the way; Gabby was never involved in my business with the mechanic. Gabby decuded to tell me to immediately stop the testing of the Catalytic Converter (per the P-0420 code) and do what Gabby said which was to replace (only one side of Catalytic Converter) at GABBY'S price of $2,400.00 and said this was the only price there was to do the Catalytic Converter (anywhere) as though Gabby was talking to was some inexperienced young chic, instead of a woman in her 60's; and, then Gabby said to never come back to her Bih-O again. Gabby was extremely bias and unprofessional - especially since her mechanic was unaware that anything he had done to try to be nice and help me, was wrong. That meant the Bernalillo Big-O was "off the list" for the A/C job, and so was their "sister store in Rio Rancho with whom they work closely. Mark's ego blew any possibility of using the Juan Tabo store out of the water. I had really wanted the Juan Tabo store to do the work; I had heard good things about their expert A/C mechanic. Service is not great and they just ignore you. Of course that is the norm these days. One person finally helped and hope to got tire fixed. lol, first thing they say is can't honor the warranty because it purchased at other Big-O and they cannot see purchase paperwork. Yup usual scam. But I kept the paperwork, so that negates their scam. Let's see what the next thing is. I usually use the Rio Rancho Big -O as they treat you better there. So the service rep is saying someone got tires and they going to find him and pop the tires. Hmmmm.. what kind of place is this? Now they dealing with family issues and making customers wait. Hmmm.. Also the they say if you order tires you have to leave your rim here? WTF? Really. Hmmm... Never been to a big O that did that before. Maybe they have issues with people not picking up their order? CUSTOMER BEWARE! The worker here at 1141 Juan Tabo Blvd NE Albuquerque - Big-O tires took my very nice pickup for a TEST DRIVE WITHOUT MY PERMISSION after an alignment. He could have done serious damage to my transmission or engine because I don't know if he raced it, beat it or abused it. I never let anyone drive my like new pickup truck. I bought it brand new. Management should know this is wrong and not let any worker take a test drive on the roads without a customers' written permission, this is illegal. No tire shop has ever done this to me. This was done on February 4, 2026. Another thing is these workers over tightened my lug nuts, after rotation and balance. the torque on several was way over 120 ft lbs when they should have been torqued to 83 ft lbs so I had to redo the torque spec myself. The lug nuts were also deformed it was difficult to connect my correct size socket, I hit them with a hammer to get the socket on and off after this work was done. read more

This is our second time going to a Big O location (first time in Missouri) and we were thoroughly impressed yet again. Took care of the nail in our tire in under 30 mins, with a full patch from the inside. The staff was sharp and professional, and the waiting area was welcoming and clean. The front desk guy was super courteous and on the ball. Everyone moved with a sense of urgency even though it wasn't busy this morning. The gentleman that put our car up on jacks moved quickly but took the extra step and got low to the ground to make sure the lift blocks were lined up correctly. That seems small and simple, but you don't get this sort of work ethic everywhere, and that is the sort of care my husband expects having been a mechanic 15 years ago. The day prior, we had left the car at another shop for 6 hrs, with an appointment, and early in the morning, and they didn't touch the car. I bought a set of 4 truck tires at the Juan Tabo location in October 2023. On Wednesday, I discovered a slow leak and made an appointment to get the flat fixed. After about 20 minutes, they came to me in the waiting area and told me my tires are 11 years old! I said, "then you sold me 11-year old tires." I told them I just bought them 1 & a half years ago but all they did was: Deny. Deny. Deny. They made me feel like I was pulling a fast one instead of logically trying to figure out what was going on. Poor training on the staff. Did anyone try to put 2 and 2 together and realize the tires couldn't be 11 years old? No. They would be bald! Deny. Deny. Deny. I said fine, fix the tire anyways. Can't do that, we don't work on tires older than 5 years. I told them again, I just bought the in Oct 23 from them. He got the manager. Manager said someone switched my tires.... really? Turns out they were looking at the wrong place on the tire for the date code. They discovered my ties were indeed, only 1-1/2 years old. They made me feel like crap, but that is not the end of it. The tire was ruined by the nail and I needed a new one. I paid for the warranty when I purchased them, so the replacement was no problem. But they scratched the hell out of my rim (black paint scrapped off) while replacing the tire! All the way around. If I could add photographs to this review, I would. Looks like their staff had poor training or didn't care about my rim or both. They lost a customer that day. Save yourself some trouble, and just go to DISCOUNT TIRE, a block away. Go here! We buslife, live in our built out bus, and were passing through late Friday night. We blew a tire on the highway & got towed here. In the morning, the place didn't bug us when they opened, let us sleep in, & when we went and asked for the tire service, they helped us within 20 mins. Quality, friendly service. Manager has anger issues-kicks and slams things around. I agreed to higher priced tires he recommended since the ones I wanted were special order. Said it would be a little tough to get my old tires off but they could do it. Well that was an overestimation on his part. Still here waiting .... They had given up on my tires and left them on the ground and just got everyone else out the door first. I brought that up, well they were taking a break but haven't had lunch- clear windows mean I can see the bags of burgers you are munching on, seriously now. Must be nice while I sit here and wait, past closing now. I wish they had said something before I sat up here stranded for 5 hours. Discount Tire was down the road. Will never go to Big-O again. I highly recommend this place to anyone in the area! I had a rental from Sixt in Dallas and paid for Sixt Towing and Rental and they would not help me. Sixt told me to pay for the repair on top of the $150 fee I paid for OTR coverage. Then last night we got this nail and this morning we had to get it fixed we tried Pep Boys but they were closed, Walmart didn't have a TLE, then Firestone gave us an estimated 1.5 hour wait to get looked at! Is there less than one star? We usually go to a Big O in our neighborhood but they were booked yesterday so we found an opening at this location.... I can understand why no one else was there. My daughter was charged $100 for an oil change that our Big O usually charges $60 for. They told her they couldn't rotate her tires (all purchased at Big O with warranties on each one), and that they all needed to be replaced, at a cost of $800... no mention of the warranties. Needless to say, we picked up the car and went elsewhere, though they had already done the oil change.... and... didn't even reset the oil change counter in the car! All this with some of the most bitchy customer service I've ever experienced at a car repair shop. read more

I tried both Discount Tires stores on Juan Tabo but they were totally full of customers, so I saw Big O wasn't crazy crowded, and decided to try them. The price wasn't good but I took time off from work to get new tires on the farm truck. I had to get it done. It took 3 and a half hours. I paid $1250 for 4Tires, OUCH. When I left the store, there were weights on my wheels, but as I drove up the interstate I heard the weights flying off. Sure enough when I got home there wasn't one weight on any of my wheels. I can't believe that 8 years ago Walmart put weights on and they were still on when I brought them in. I can't afford to bring my truck back and spend another 3 hours waiting for them to fix. I was at my last 8 hours of a long road trip from Long Island,NY to Las Vegas Nevada and ended up here for an oil change because the alert kept going off in my car and this place opened before anyone else in the morning so I was there before they even opened because I just wanted to get back on the road and be done with this trip. A super nice gentleman named Isaac showed up early and opened promptly at 7 am and told me I'd have to wait for a tech to show up to do the oil change (he was alone running the store) So we chatted about my trip so he knew I REALLY wanted to get back on the road ASAP. So the next thing I know he was pulling my car in! He had customers coming in non stop but Issac still managed to get my car done SO fast (while still keeping the other customers happy at the same time!) and got me back on the road! He was THE BEST!!! And gave me some advice great news about a noise my car was making as well. I would have let him fix it if I wasn't in a rush to get home to Vegas. I absolutely recommend this place and ask for Isaac if you end up here. He was professional and a pleasure to chat with as well! This place has been here many yrs, from The Tire Factory to Big O the name may change but the employees are the same and always provide the best service. They often remember their regular patrons making small talk so you don't feel like a number. They look out for ya making recommendations when they see anything concerning so you can decide if it's urgent and give the go ahead or wait on it. These people own tHeir mistakes. I was pissed it took two and a half hours to do a siMple oil change and to replace belts. The mechanic was having problems with the task. When I let them know that it took too long, that I could have at least planned for the time lapse (2.5 hours) they apologized profusely and gave me a discount. That's good business. I've been to these guys before. They have saved me hundreds of dollars by being honest with me on repairs where other garages have been dishonest. I trust these people.
