My heroes! So, I am driving east on 40 and I hear... "Pop... thump, thump, thump" Oh, no! I look back and see that my trailer tire is spitting out pieces of rubber. There was a tow truck and a friendly tow truck driver and a spare tire that was a touch too big. The driver said, "Big O Tires. That's where you want to go." So, I did. Everyone at Big O was really nice, which was good because I was having a pretty bad day. They brightened my day. They ordered new tires for me because they didn't have the tiny tires that are on my trailer in stock. Nor would I expect them to. The new tires were there in less than 24 hours. They went to work and found I had a stripped bolt. They got me a new bolt, mounted my new tires, and sent me on my way. All at a very reasonable price. I called while I was out and about yesterday and Rich helped me with my questions quickly and was very friendly. I arrived and they got me right in but soon said their inventory was off and I was like "OK here we go" but he said they were upgrading me from a 55,000 mile tread wear tire to a 75,000 tread west tire at no additional cost. Those tires also included the road hazard coverage as well so I ended up with a several hundred dollar upgrade for free. Can't say enough good things about them! Waited a long time to review Big O in an effort to let my emotions cool at least some before posting a review. A few months back, I went to get my oil changed and tires rotated. Big O was recommended to me by a very close family friend who works on cars and refers many people to go to Big O for things like tire purchases, oil changes, etc. So I was feeling confident since it's always a toss up on what you're going to get with oil change service. I should have kept expectations low. My splash shield below my vehicle has had some issues and been beaten up in the past, but everyone who has changed oil in my car has always found a way to make sure it's secure and fastened. I wasn't overly surprised about the fact that they had some issues getting the shield completely aligned, but the technician that worked on my car ended up handing over EVERY cap that locks it into place. The employee at the front who checked me our *assured me* that every thing was tightly fastened with zip ties after I asked for assurance twice. 20 minutes later I'm on the highway in snow with exactly what the photos attached show - my splash shield DRAGGING along the highway. Also, those zip ties sure do look "fastened tightly." I've never felt so frustrated. I immediately called my friend who recommended me to go to Big O and he was so frustrated. I also called Big O while I was on the side of the road waiting for help with an expectation for a full refund. The manager nearly IMMEDIATELY offered me a full refund over the phone. Obviously, I was glad to get it back without you much of a fight, but VERY interesting to me that they were willing to do it so quickly. It pretty much confirmed to me that they were aware of the type of service they offered me and just crossed their fingers hoping all would go fine. Oil changes are the entry level jobs to new mechanics/techs. I get it. That's fair. Every job has entry level or basic duties that beginners learn. But businesses need to understand that the people who suffer when employees aren't held accountable are the CUSTOMERS. I suppose they don't care because there will always be people to come in and pay for oil changes. I, personally, will continue to try and find an oil change business I trust. It seems so elementary and frustrating that this seems like a revolving door, but I'd rather keep it moving than try to trust Big O after they could have caused significant damage to my vehicle. BEWARE FEMALES I recently went in to have my flat tire fixed, however, ended up leaving with 4 new tires. they told me prior that if my alignment was off, it would be 89$ to correct. when I picked up my car, they charged me for the alignment. thankfully, my boyfriend was with me and asked for the alignment report (I would not have known to ask for this without him). after the salesman was in the back for 10 mins, he came out and said they ended up not needing to do the alignment and would refund my money. make sure what you're purchasing and paying for was actually done!!!!!! read more

Steve and team...thanks a ton! I had an oil hose explode over the weekend. On SUNDAY Steve looked at the car and told me he could have a mechanic work on it first thing on Monday. Steve even ordered the part and had it delivered on SUNDAY so they could get started first thing. Steve & team did no BS-ing. Just fixed the car by replacing the part. I know of other places that tell you 19 other things that could be wrong but aren't. You can trust Steve and his crew. His price was quite reasonable. I could buy the part at an auto parts store for $120. I BO charged me $180 for the part and an hour or so for labor. Seems like a good deal to me - especially when I am experiencing an emergency situation (oh...I was stranded out of town...I do not live in Lawrence). Thanks Steve and Company! read more

Well they did it again. I took a nearly new tire in with a nail hole in the tread to be repaired. I didnt buy the "Shop Hazzard" insurance. They tore a larger hole in the tire instead of fixing it claiming it was a rock hole instead of the nail hole it had. Now I have to spend $240 on a new tire. Last time I took a tire in to be repaired it had a hole in they tread. They came out and told me the hole was in the side wall. When they showed it to me there was a new small hole in the sidwall and the ice pick was still sitting next to the tire. read more

Beware of buying tires at Big O I am on my forth time in with a another apartment at 3 its 3:30 before they started work so this makes 3.5 hours of waiting because they cant stop the wheel weights from hitting the breaks. They they tell me one of the new tires didn't pass the road hazard test i asked was that the problem they said we dont know. So i said did you put a new one on they said no we remounted it and it serms better now. While sitting for my 3.5 hours i seen one of their mechanics hit another car in the parking lot and just walk away. Also dont buy the BS they lie about every thing just to get work. And dont complain about how long it takes they will give you a punishment by stoping work on yours and make it take longer read more

On 5/25/2020 on my way from NC to CA, I ran over a nail, which created a slow leak in my run-flat-tire. I didn't have an appointment; however, Shea Visser, the young lady at the front desk, immediately had a mechanic look at my tire. I was afraid I would have to buy two new front run-flat-tires; instead, the mechanic spent 45 minutes patching my existing tire and said I had at least 5000 more miles on my tires. While I waited in the clean waiting area, Shea even invited my two dogs inside to wait with me. When it comes time to purchase new tires, I intend to purchase them from Big O Tires. I just hope all Big O Tire stores have the same excellent service that this store has. read more

Worst place to get anything done to your car. Replaced tires on my wife's and scratched the crap out of every rim. Cory who says he owns the place refuses to do anything about replacing the one that is scratched so bad it can't be buffed out. Don't take your business here and spend your hard earned money to have them damage your car and tell you nothing we can do about it. After some arguing and unhappiness the owner has replaced the wheel that was damaged. This should have been the first course of action not the last. read more

Customers BEWARE since January of 2019 to May 31st.. I have now spent over $2500 here. May 18th I had my vehicle serviced for cooling cutting in-and-out.. Set it was my radiator that was cracked and had to replace it.. Costed me over $700, Literally a week later coolant was spilling out onto the ground and under my hood was smoking.. Call them up and they told me that it was under warranty.. I get a call the next day and they tell me the it was the water inlet hose and it was never messed with because it had nothing to do with the radiator and wasn't under warranty. Had my vehicle all week saying they couldn't find the part anywhere and had to order from a dealership which I later looked up myself that is running anywhere from 15 to $25. They were charging me $59 for the part. When under my hood and scene I could easily reach both ends of where the hose connects to but somehow took them over 3 hours to do. But my prior in voice it took them just little over 2 hours to replace a radiator.. Have been taking pictures of the whole process and plan to file a report with the BBB if I am not refunded for the latest invoice. These people lie to you to get out of their mistakes and over charge you and make things up to squeeze every dime... Absolutely ridiculous to be charged 106.00$ an hour for labor whether they complete a full hour or not. read more

Normally I wouldn't review a place I been to once, but I recall with very clear mind why I came here and the very good service I received. Called looking for a new set of tires for a car I was going give to my brother-in-law in Green Bay, Wisconsin. Used it for years commuting to KC and while a good vehicle that served me well, it had reached the end of its life. Norma;lly would have traded it in and been glad to get a few hundred dollars for it. However, my BIL is not someone with much money and family obligations called, so we agreed he'd buy the new tires and I'd drive it there and sell it to him for $1 and fly home. Deed done. I called several places explaining the exact situation I was in and asking for a discount. Big O's stepped up after some discussion and gave me a great deal no one else in town could match. The next day I was there getting new tires and it drove like a dream on the 750+ mile drive up. Those original tires from several years ago are still on the old dog and are being driven to work daily. For my money, next time I need tires I'll be giving them a serious look. read more

My wife and I drove from Topeka to Lawrence yesterday. On the way there, it was raining and one of the windshield wiper blades was making a racket. So we looked for an auto parts store on W. 6th Street. Big O tires was on the right side, so we pulled in and both wiper blades were replaced almost before we could enjoy a short rest in the TV lounge area. The price seemed reasonable. Fantastic staff and great all around service. Bought a new vehicle recently, and the dealer, as usual, tried to strongarm us into using their service department for oil changes. I said "absolutely not" because we get great service and free tire rotations at Big O. They are always flexible on appointment times and get things done as quickly as possible! Plus if you have a tire emergency they get you right in! Prior to Big O opening in Lawrence we had to use Firestone and they were always too busy to work in a flat. 2 months ago I had high-quality ceramic breaks put onto my car by an ASE certified technician in my home town. Last weekend I took my car into big o tires to do a routine oil change and tire rotation. When I picked up my car after the service was complete, they recommended that I replace my breaks and gave them a 4 out of 10 on their scale. Today I had my breaks checked out by an ASE technician that I work with here in Lawrence and he said they look brand new. I have completely lost my trust in big o tires. They were trying to scam me into buying breaks without having the knowledge on the appearance of 2-month-old breaks. Do not trust any service request by the mechanics at big o tires and get a second opinion by a different company. They will try to squeeze as much money out of you as possible. read more

KC told me it had nothing to do with them, so took it to this Big O I. lawrence and was immediately informed they had put the wrong sized tires on. Devon the service manager sorted everything out with the other store and got me the right sized tires and sent me on may way! Thanks so much to this store for identifying the mistake, correcting it, and coordinating with the other store so that I could drive away safe-- and without any additional fees. My daughter and I are planning a drive from Topeka KS to Dallas TX tomorrow. We had some errands to run and were running out of time to have our tires checked (air pressure and condition) before leaving so we stopped to see if a technician could take a look (without an appointment, unfortunately). Dylan (with the red beard) was incredible! He checked the tires, adjusted the pressure and even helped my pull the spare to make sure it was inflated in the event of an emergency. They tried to convince me I needed to spend another $200+ on other services "required" for my car. Being skeptical, I took it to the mechanic I have at home in Colorado after the tire rotation and oil change and he told me everything Big O Tires told me was complete BULLSHIT and they were just trying to get more money. ALSO my trustworthy mechanic told me that they put the WRONG OIL FILTER IN MY CAR, he said that he has never seen that type of oil filter in a Subaru EVER. Tires is the only thing I would have done, and during a sale. They ensure you that there mechanics\technicians are ASE certified and they will be working on ur car while uncertified ase techs work on the not so important customers performing skilled repairs or not. I was sold to brand name tires that they suggested and they said they could not do a alignment the tie rod ends where bad , that would need replaced before a alignment could be done need it done quick had another place do the tie rods ends and shocks took it back on Sunday for the alignment informed them of the new repairs and then 45 minutes later they tell me the inner tie rods are now loose went out to see the car insisted they was fine ( the tech and manger argued with me) the never lock the steering wheel to check the play so them I took the car to the dealership where the alignment was done and no problems found is steering and it been fine zero tire wear . But after the dealer repair i also bought four tires So I return to store to return there tires do to being unsatisfied and according to return policy but they refused call corporate and then the manager calls me up and cussed me out and tells me he reserves the right not to do business was me called Corp again and they would never call me back and I ending up loosing almost $400 in the 2 tires they sold me Then the owner calls me up again and tell me iam a lier and and never come back read more

If I could give zero stars here I would. I have been going to this place pretty much since I moved to Lawrence about a year and a half ago. I recently had my air conditioning go out in my car. I took it into them for an estimate and they said the compressor has failed and needs replaced. Their quote was nearly $1700. I started calling around elsewhere. I called Westside 66 on 6th St. and he gave me a quote for $1100. It ended up costing only $670 altogether! Sadly I worry that all of the car repairs I have had done on my car and my son's car I was probably overcharged. I will never take my car to Big O Tires ever again!! read more

I've been leary of having tire stores/oil change businesses do other work on my car. But when my car developed a shimmy, I decided to give them a chance. The odd thing was that the shimmy only started after the car had been driven for some time. This didn't seem likely, but nonetheless I passed along this symptom to them. To my surprise, they took the car out for a drive and found that not until it was really warmed up did the problem occur. I was impressed that they actually listened to my explanation of the problem and worked to find the solution. I'll be back! read more
