I also asked to check on an engine hesitation issue thats been going almost 2 years. Two prior mechanics could not fix it. They fixed both in one shot and at a great price. Terribly disappointed and its the only shop I used, only because it was walking distance to home. 1. I asked for a Spark plug change. Well, that didnt work and they charged me to fix it. SO, i was pretty much charged twice. 2. Front brake change- when I went to pick it up. I said, Why is there BLACK SOOT on my wheels. Front desk female said, "Oh thats Brake dust, that happens, it will blow off. " Well, I went to Calif andand back it still didnt Blow off." I want to show them just to see what EXCUSE they will CHARGE ME FOR. So, basically, idk if Im targeted for a bad job or they just do a bad job. BEWARE. read more

I have not been coerced or paid to write this review. I did not personally know anyone who is employed at Garber Automotive. However, after having my auto serviced yesterday, I feel like a part of their family! This is truly the best automotive business in which to take your auto. You will most likely be greeted by Paige upon entering. She is professional and extremely kind and knowledgeable. Paige sent quotes to me before I took my auto in, she's awesome! I had planned on reading for 4-5 hours while waiting for my auto. Paige spoke with Micah (owner) and he went to warm up his truck to take me home. That was unexpected, appreciated and over the top customer service! I had a list from the dealership in KC of everything that needed to be done for maintenance. The pricing was SO much better with Garber, but in addition, they told me several of the items on the list did NOT need attention. Micah could have ripped me off and charged me to do some things that didn't need to be done. I have such peace of mind now that I found a place that I trust to maintain my auto!! I was hesitant to write this review because I know it could help to increase their business and when I need an appt I may have to wait.....but there's nothing like finding that local, family business which takes perfect care of their customers, I had to share and will take my chances of getting in to Garber!! Super happy with this automotive business. It's small and family owned, which I'm all about supporting small businesses to begin with. Customer service is off the charts as they extremely kind, friendly and helpful! But importantly, they didn't rape me for new tires like the dealership wanted to. I purchased my tires from Garber for less than half of what I was quoted at the dealership (and they installed them too). And with labor costing next to nothing. It was a quick installation and I waited patiently in the waiting room. I highly recommend this business if you want a great deal and 5 star service!!!! read more

Horrible customer service I had an appointment to drop my car off. I was instructed to drop off the car anytime between the hours of 730am and 530pm. I arrived at 510pm and was told I was too late. I posted a review about my experience to which the owener responded in a very condescending way and they flat out lied saying i was told to be there between 12-5 which is just not true it seems instread of owning up to their mistake they would rather blame and be rude. read more

I have only been here once, but I think they have a new regular customer. I have been using another place in town for years (I don't live in Lawrence, but work in Lawrence, so I get my auto repair done while I am at work). That place has been great, but expensive. And that's not to say I won't ever go back there. But I am finally ready to try someplace new, and Garber is that place. I recently brought my car in for new rear break pads. The other place quoted $180 + tax. Garber was $150 with tax. For the same product. They were able to get me in within the next couple days, and I dropped the car off at about 7:30am with no need to get it back anytime soon. With that said, they had it back to me by 11:00am or so. I also had them check out another issue with my cruise control. Whereas my previous repair facility quoted about $150 + tax and needed to order the part, Garber quoted $150 with tax and had it in house. That was very impressive to me. Service on the phone and in person is very friendly. The waiting area is a bit dark and depressing so I recommend only waiting if you really need to. read more

I have been to Garber on three occasions. Usually, you will visit a repair shop only once and then shop around whenever your next repair comes calling. Luckily I found Garber after experiencing not so great encounters at other Lawrence repair shops. Garber has a permanent customer as long as I live in Lawrence. These guys are top notch and as honest as a car repair shop can be. I had a starter problem that couldn't get properly diagnosed by at least three other repair shops. Garber even sent me away after my first visit saying the starter was fine. On my fourth breakdown, I decided to call garber back and glad I did. They offered to drive to my stalled vehicle and look the problem over. That gesture alone caused my to have the car towed back to their repair shop and they finally figured out the problem. I've had other vehicles in there for oil changes, brakes, etc. Not the cheapest place in town, but certainly not the most expensive. What they are, is an extremely knowledgeable and experienced staff that are in business to do right by their customers. They helped me with my brake pads and rotors. I really appreciate them because I am a bit naive and when I bought the breaks I used squeaking spray that only cause debris to get caught on the pads and make the squeaking worst. This is the auto repair shop that I only trust in Lawrence. I have been using their service for so many times (for myself and others). They did not rip me off. Once, I went there because there was a weird sound from the front skirt every time I started my car. I took my car to the other shop which my friend recommended. They changed a knot in my car and charged me almost $100. The problem did not solve. So, I brought to Garber. They adjusted my engine belt and charged me $27!!!! The problem solved. I were very impressed and became a regular customer for a long time. This story was just an example of many impressions I have with them. read more

Their front desk person does a great job and was very accommodating/understanding of my time and no other transportation. They were very friendly, accommodating, and reasonably priced. I am new to the Lawrence area and needed new brakes on my wife's van. Garber Automotive had good reviews and was nearby so I tried them out. New front end brake pads and replaced rotors PLUS an oil change cost about 40% less than just a front end brake pad and rotor replacement at a national chain service center on our other vehicle a week prior. Beyond that the lady at the front desk made sure to ask if I was a student so I could take advantage of their student discount (she saved me money)! I called on a Monday morning for next day service and, although the extraordinarily friendly woman who works at the front desk said they would have one less mechanic on the day I needed service, they were able to get me an appointment when I needed it. I got a nice small town auto shop feeling from them from the first phone call all the way through picking up my car at the end of the day. The lobby is clean and she'll offer you a tasty cup of coffee while you wait. Bottom line: There was no hassle. They didn't try to offer or sell me anything I didn't need. The folks at Garber Auto have been absolutely wonderful. As a student at KU I was really afraid of getting fleeced by an unscrupulous mechanic, but Garber put those concerns to rest. I had two oil changes, a radiator replacement, and a thermostat replacement done there, as well as a couple of inspections. Their prices are very reasonable and they've given me credit if I came in for an inspection and paid a small fee and came back later, they'd apply that fee to the current service. Finally, what prompted me to write this review was that I had to have work they did re-done due to a faulty part (thermostat). Their work is covered by the Tech-Net nationwide guarantee. I had the thermostat go out in Tennessee on my way to my new home in Rhode Island and managed to get it fixed. I called them and got the number for tech-net thinking that was the end of it, but today they called me and asked how everything went and then offered to call tech-net and check on my claim. They did so and called right back to tell me my check was in the mail! They looked out for me even though I'll probably never have work done there again. Ripped me off. They put spark plugs in and did not gap the plugs. I had to drive back to Wichita in a car that they actually made worse. I had to get a completely new repair once I got home. When I contacted them to let them know what happened, they would not return my calls. I sent them photos of the spark plugs and everything. Of course this was kind of my own fault I should have learned my lesson from a few years before that. I took another car there to get a seal put on. They didn't know what they were doing and the head cracked on my engine when I got on the highway. They have a prime location and Lawrence, but look around first there's much better businesses to give your money to. read more
