STAY AWAY! Scammer Alert! Dishonest! All of these reviews talk about how nice the owner is. No, he's simply a good SALESMAN/CONMAN. He was super nice to me at first and acted like he was helping me get my car repaired. He changed his attitude once he knew I wasn't believing my axle was bent, and I called him out. I dropped my car off at 8:30 in the morning for a simple tire alignment. I called them at 3:30 asking if my car was ready. I was told my car was next. I drove there at 4:00pm and the owner told me something was badly bent, and I needed to talk to his technician. I asked where is the technician? The owner says oh he's not here, but he'll be back in about 45 minutes. I wait for the technician to come back to work and he tells me my rear axle is bent and it'll cost me a little over $3,000 to repair, and he can't repair it until the next day. I knew there was NO way my axle was bent. I said don't touch it, I'll take my car to a trustworthy shop when I return home. Big O tells me they fixed the front wheel alignment and charged me $125. Like an idiot, I paid Big O the $125. I wasn't even a block away and my car was still pulling hard to the right. Big O didn't fix a thing, but they held my car just over 8 hours, and charged me $125 for I'm assuming as a parking fee. I know they saw my out of state license plates and figured I was an easy cash grab. When I returned home I went to a local tire shop. I didn't tell the new shop of my horrific experience at Big O. My car was properly aligned for just over $100 in under an hour. I asked the shop if there was an issue with my rear axle, and they looked confused saying No, why do you ask? I then told them my experience at Winnemucca, NV Big O and the entire shop just looked at one another in shock. STAY AWAY FROM Big O in Winnemucca! Big O saved me about $1,400! The first shop I called, Les Schwab, was being untruthful or uninformed when it "required" me to have about $1,400 of repairs beyond what I needed. Both Les Schwab corporate and my vehicle's manufacturer indicated the local LS shop was incorrect. Thankfully, Winnemucca has a shop like Big O to provide competent and honest service without the customer needing to play detective! That's the short version of the review--read on if you'd like more details. Or, just go to Big O and take your wife to a fancy dinner (or 10, or 20 dinners) with the money you could save from going here. A newish front tire on my AWD got destroyed from road debris about 100 south of Winnemucca. First, I called Les Schwab and the CSR said they would only install a new tire if I agreed to replace all four. My tires are a costly and staggered set that cost about $2,000 to replace all four. Also, they had no idea what the condition was of the other three tires they were requiring me to replace as a condition of service. A quick note for those unaware of an AWD phenomenon: it's sometimes advisable to replace all tires on an AWD vehicle when one goes bad. This is b/c if there is a significant difference in wear between the new and existing tires, the difference in tire rotation could damage the transmission. Because of this, reputable dealers will measure the difference in tire depth and, if it exceeds tolerances, replace all four versus just one tire. Back to my story. I informed the CSR at Les Schwab that my tires were almost new and there might not be any meaningful difference in wear between the new tire and the others, so they should inspect them before deciding they need to be replaced. She insisted the company's policy was to change all four regardless of their condition. I replied that requiring (versus recommending) unnecessary parts seems like fraud. After all, just the normal differences in PSI between tires would result in a greater difference in circumference than the treadwear between a new tire and one with, say, 5,000 miles. Then I asked if her response would be the same if I bought four new tires, drove 20 miles home and damaged one and she said "yes." That's when I knew I was dealing with someone misinformed or unethical. She said the manager could explain it. When the mgr came on the line, I expected him to either explain it (as she said he would) or say something like, "we often need to change all four but would need to measure the difference in wear before we can say for sure." He did neither. He said he only came on the line to tell me that (1) their policy is to change all four regardless of their condition (and apparently I didn't need to know why) and that (2) because I used the word "fraud," with the CSR, his shop would not service me at all, even if agreed to purchase the three other tires (which I didn't need). While stranded on the highway I asked two sources about this issue so I would be informed when I called the next shop. I called BMW of North America and spoke with a helpful gentleman, Frank, who said there is no need to change all four if the difference in the tread depth is less than 3/32". The manufacturer knows best so that's as authoritative as it gets. However, I also decided to view Les Schwab's website since I suspected the Winnemucca shop was going rogue. Les Schwab's website had an article called, "Should You Replace All Four Tires on Your AWD Vehicle?" which says, "At Les Schwab Tire Centers, we use a tread depth gauge to accurately measure the tread depth as a complimentary service. We can then help you decide if a full set of new tires would be best." Les Schwab's official corporate website says LS should measure to see if new tires are needed. Why didn't their store manager know this? Why was the Winnemucca location departing from LS's policy and from the guidance of my car's manufacturer? I then called Big O which said it would replace the tire but may need to replace all four if the difference in tread depth exceeded specs. Now that was the correct response--an honest and responsible response! Bog O FedEx'd my tire from Las Vegas, measured the difference in wear when it arrived, saw that the others didn't need replacing (the difference was well within my manufacturer's specs), and I was good to go. That saved me about $1,400! Note that back in Vegas I can also find a performance shop to shave off the minor tread difference if I wanted to track my car (which I don't) or drive it at 140 MPH (also which I don't), where it might begin to make a difference in driving dynamics. Before you think I was overcharged for what I got, understand these performance run-flats cost about $400 apiece and need to be balanced for high speeds. This cost would be the same at any shop. But cheaper at Big O since it won't needlessly require you to replace all four! read more

Came in for one tire, the sarcastic self riotous narcissist tried to sell me 4 and claimed that doing otherwise would void my warranty. He allegedly called the local Lexus dealership to verify. Since I didn't believe the information I was being given I went outside and called my dealership and was told that I didn't need to replace all four tires. They couldn't squeeze us in so told us to visit Big O, which was trustworthy. We were traveling from Salt Lake City to the SF Bay Area. We stopped in Winnemucca for the night and stupidly damaged the AC unit on the roof of our camper van, by trying to drive under a motel portico that didn't have enough clearance. I called around a bunch of places trying to find someone who would just secure what was left of the AC unit so we could drive home safely without pieces flying off on the freeway. After a lot of No's, I was referred to Big O Tires. Thank goodness for that. We showed up early in the morning and Blake came outside to greet us. He took one look at us and our rig and knew immediately what we needed. Without hesitation he said he'd fix it if we would just hang out for a little while. It's amazing that the Big O brand tires can differ by almost $70 per tire or 25%. My bad I guess but Big O headquarters needs to figure this out. Traveling in our motorhome south on 95 out of Idaho I was 42 miles out of Winnemucca, Nevada our alternator went out and we barely made it into Winnemucca by the grace of God. The wife got out her cell phone while I tried to keep the rv running pulling power off the rear coach batteries by a switch. Two companies couldn't help; but the second company recommended BIG O Tires. The wife called and spoke with a gentleman at Big O Tires and told us he could help us and to park our Motorhome in the parking lot across the street. We barely made it but once we arrived we parked it and walked across the street and went inside the office were we met the owner Blake, Dalton and Doug. Blake the owner was amazing he got on the phone and order 3 different alternator application on the spot just in case for my Ford V10. Blake said we're welcome to spend the night in the lot across the street and in the morning I was third in line to have my Rv repaired and he would get us back on the road that day. He even came over to check on us after they closed up for the evening and reassured us that we would be safe there overnight. He asked us if we needed anything before he left for the night. The next morning we waited in the customer service area they offered us coffee and fresh donuts while the mechanic Doug worked on our Rv. Shout out to Blake and the great service provided for both towing and repair work. A few weeks ago, my wife and I were stranded 65 miles north of Winnemucca on 95. A bearing went out in our travel trailer on our return to California. After getting no where with securing towing through Progressive, I took care of it myself and called High Desert Towing. Blake got on it and within a few hours the flat bed arrived. At the time of the call, I was given great instructions of what I needed to due to back the trailer up on to the flat bed and that they could take care of the bearing repair through Big O. Anybody who has been stranded like this, knows full well the stress involved. The next morning I went to their yard to get the low down. Understand, that these type of repairs are not something that can be done overnight. Fortunately, we were about 7 seven hours from home and left the trailer in Blake's hands. He inspected and re packed all bearings, replacing 2. Due to the age of the tires, I had those replaced as well. We returned the following week. Blake was very detailed in what was done and why. We made it home without an real issues. I was taken aback when I got a call from Blake that evening, checking to see if we made it home ok. Took car in for alignment, and picked it up with a broken drivers side window. They say they roll down drivers side window so they don't lock keys in car. First, who cares? They obviously broke window after they rolled it back up, and two , how stupid do they have to be? This is a new car, totally unable to lock doors when keys are inside. That's been a non issue for nearly a decade. At any rate, management refused to acknowledge responsibility even though service guy admitted to it happening on his watch. Stay away. The plastic cover under my car came loose. White knuckled it from Jordon Valley to Winnemucca to Big O tires because it was the closest. It took them one and a half hours of waiting before they got my car in. The parts to screw the cover back in were less than $3. They charged me $52 for ten minutes of work. Do not use this shop. Thank you, Blake, Mike , Doug and crew! We headed to Boise in our Haulmark trailer with a motorcycle in it towed by our F-350 4x4 truck. We blew a trailer tire as we exited to Winnemucca for gas and changed to the spare and limped to Big O around 8:30am to replace the spare. We were met by Blake and Crew. What GREAT customer service! Friendly, helpful, employees who, along with Blake, taught us a lot about tires and helped us by replacing not only the subject spare, but after he showed us why the other side had aged out, replaced that tire and then we discovered our front tire on the truck which also was aging out with stress cracks, separation and a bulge developing on the side; we decided to replace that one, as well. They did not have a new (265/70 R19.5) huge tire. Much like a previous reviewer, Blake found a used tire of that size with sufficient tread for us to make it to our destination in Boise and home to CA. We were charged $110.00 for that tire and it seemed a little high at the time as we paid around $350.00 for that same tire; until we recalled it was purchased.....uh..15 years ago. Today that same tire runs $555 in CA. We were back on the road in 2 hours. So, hey, paying for tires is about as fun as paying for unmentionables. It may be the reviewer who felt he was charged too much may not have taken into account the age and condition of his tire. We were out in the middle of the Nevada desert with not many options. Just my opinion. But I felt we were charged fairly and were treated in a very courteous and professional manner by the entire team. read more

Driving through Nevada on the way back home when my car started acting up and the check engine light came on. Took it a shop that said the catalytic converter was bad. The only place in town that does exhaust is apparently Big O tires. Was told it would be 2 hours to get it in. 4 hours later they finally got it in and took one hour to install a catalytic converter. When I got the bill it showed 3.5 hours of labor. When I questioned the time I was told that was the book time so that's what they charge. That is not only theft but fraud. If the book time was close, or if they had disclosed this before, no problem. When you are charging four times the hourly labor rate, that is purely dishonest. They know you are from out of town and are stuck so they stick it to you. 2000 miles later my check engine light was back on and it shows that the catalytic converter needs to be replaced. They put on a cheap generic one that does not handle the engine in this car. Cost me 500 at this shop, 350 with the correct converter in Colorado. Take you chances here. read more
