let me begin by saying the staff was great and very helpful. that being said , I purchased a 16oz bottle of Reef Nutrition Phyto Feast for my reef tank, got home and was about to put some into my tank and thought to look at the expiration date and it was dated 2/1/2025. over a year past expiration and this stuff was refrigerated in a small fridge close to the register, so you had to move it around to make room for other stuff. had I not saw the date and added to my reef it could've crashed my whole system and would basically been adding a pollutant . I also purchased a Hanna Instruments Salinity tester for 80.00 and when I opened it realized it was used and all scratched up and clearly not new . Then when I put a battery in it to turn it on I discovered it was broken as well. I live 2.5 hrs away from the store so it's not like I could turn around and return them or give them the chance to make it right . I'm not impressed whatsoever with the way the store appeared to be in chaos with boxes of stuff all over and clutter in every isle. I def will not be going back the next time I am in town and wouldn't recommend the store to anyone I know that might be going thru there . read more

A month ago I wrote a 1 star review, I had 2 not great experiences. But I like that its not petsmart or petco and they purchase their fish from vendors they know and trust, and also a local business so I decided to give it another try. I am glad I did. I actually met the owner and shared my review with him and he even told me that he spoke to the staff already about my experience. $230 later I came home with some really great fish. Roseline sharks, 11 snails, 6 cardinals tetras, 2 large pearl gouramis, 1 yellow dwarf gourami, 7 corys, female betta for my sorority and a gorgeous piece of mopani wood. All fish are gorgeous in great health. Important that I recognized my prior 1 star review and shared my latest experience as a 5 star review. I'll be back. read more

Everytime we have gone into the store to get a shrimp or any type of aquatic animals. The own never comes up to us to ask if we want to buy anything he ignores us. We have been in this store many times and it's the same experience everytime. Today I came in with my little sister and she had a decoration that you put in the water and she dropped it and the owner said under his breath that she broke it (it was not broken at all) if it were broken I would have bought it. The owner is just not a nice person and he should know that if he wants customers to keep coming in he should treat his customers better. Especially customers that are looking to buy something. This is definitely my last time coming to the store. I don't recommend going here, unless it's just to look at Fish because that's all that you will get to do. read more

Excellent service and selection. Finatics is a great tropical fish store selling only healthy fish. Finatics also tries to educate customers so that the fish live the longest, and incompatible species aren't housed in the same aquarium. Even though Finatics recently is under new ownership the shop is still top notch. Finatics gets most of my aquarium business. read more

I so rarely leave reviews on yelp but in this circumstance I felt compelled to share. Finatics is exactly what aquarists could ever hope for in a fish store. I live in Walla Walla so it's difficult to get out to his store in Richland all the time, but it's to the point that whenever I'm in Tri-Cities, I make sure to swing by, even if I don't need anything. Why? Because of Don. You won't find a friendlier more helpful individual, which for a new hobbyist like myself is so important. I've read plenty of online help sites but sometimes you want to show an expert what you have and have them help explain what to do. He makes things so easy to understand and takes the time to talk through all your questions. On two separate occasions he's went to his computer and printed out articles to help explain what I was inquiring about--specifically in this case details of the nitrogen cycle and how to effectively use plant fertilizers in your tank. I can't tell you how helpful and genuine he is. You'll find yourself getting helpful hints you didn't even think about when you started out that just keeps adding to the fun of owning an aquarium. And most importantly? He genuinely wants you to succeed in your hobby--as opposed to just looking for the next sale. This store has great variety and lots of product options. For beginners like myself or experienced hobbyists I think this is the store for you. read more

One of the things I was concerned about when I moved here was where I was going get quality aquarium supplies and fish. When Finatics opened, we heard about it from some friends of ours and decided to check it out! We left with a new aquarium. All of the fish we got are hardy and healthy. We haven't had any problems, and all of our fish have lived since we bought them almost a year ago. I've purchased fish from other stores and had problems (including a parasite infestation) with the health of the fish, but never from here. The owner is very knowledgable, and sells us the best of the fish he can find. He lets us know when he has certain fish in stock, and is open to requests. They're always helpful, and willing to take back any fish you have problems with. Never had a bad experience here, and I always refer people to Finatics for all their aquarium needs. read more

Great little shop located in the Uptown shopping center in Richland. The gentleman working there really know their business. They have a wide variety of saltwater and fresh water options of fish to choose from. They have probably the best selections of Beta's i have seen in the area. I wish they carried more aggressive variety's of fish like Pacu's. Also a tank is needed for feeder fish as well. But overall a great shop to browse around and get ideas for a tank at home read more

You can tell that the people who run this place really care for the fish and love their jobs. I always learn something new when I stop by. It can be a little noisey with all the pumps going, so if you're hard of hearing, bring someone along that can relay questions and answers. The fish, plants, and equipment have all done great in my 20 and 36 gallon tanks. I've even had to make a return on a wrong sized filter I had grabbed and they made it very easy (I had receipt, box, and hadn't put it in water). A great place if your serious about caring for your fish. read more

What a terrific store! One of the largest and most comprehensive tropical freshwater fish stores that I've found in the Tri-area. Recently moved from Seattle and have been looking for a good local fish store to get back into the hobby. Lots of rare and hard to find fish, supplies, and plants. My 2 year old and I like to visit regularly just to enjoy the displays and see what new stock Don's got in for the week. The owners are very kind and knowledgable, always taking the time to answer questions and talk about fish. They're passionate about their store and it shows from their enthusiasm and attention to detail. I'd recommend them and encourage anyone to drop in and check the place out. read more

Definitely a fan of this store. Don is passionate about introducing people into an aquarium in the house. He does not want to compete against the "big box" stores. I find his selection of different fish (not usually found in other stores) has made this location the only one my wife will drive to. Don ((the owner) has many years of experience with Tropical Fish. I like to come in at quiet times and have long discussions about fish. One other reviewer talked about Pacu(s). Nice fish, looks like a Parana but not as ferocious. I have found that Don likes community fish best and usually has notes on those he deems "more aggressive". As a cautionary note, Pacu have been released into the Columbia River once they outgrow their tanks. Don keeps an "adoption" tank for those fish that outgrow the owner's desire to keep it. My only unfortunate incident happened when my wife bought a crayfish and it ate the young peppered cories that had hatched. She had assumed the crayfish was a garbage bottom feeder. read more

We always bought our fish at finatics, always looked forward to going not only to buy quality fish, but talking to Don we always looked forward to. He's so knowledgeable, friendly, funny, and truly cared about not only his business, but the customers as well. He could have easily sold anything in his store he wanted, but he has integrity and cared about what fish worked in our tank. The last time I went there, another guy was there, that's the last time we went and will never go back! He was far from pleasant, as we're picking out fish that we have had in our tank before, he's arguing with us that they won't work in our tank. He definitely made it a frustrating, and bad experience. Since then we have learned that he was buying the business from Don so he could retire. He didn't adhere to the agreement which ended up screwing Don and his plans for retirement. Which clearly shows the new owner's lack of integrity! We will never be back! read more

Now that I have been to Finattics I will go nowhere else. Their knowledge of fish, plants, equipment and treatments for what ails your tank is extensive. They have healthy fish in a wide variety of species. I had a problem with four fish that had babies and turned into 15 fish. Too many for me to deal with in a 10 gal tank so I called Don and he said he would take them and re-home them for me. When I brought them in I was surprised to find out that only one of the fish was a platy like the big box store had told me all the original 4 were when I bought them. After talking about my other fish and showing Don the exact fish in one of his tanks, I was surprised to find out that it too was a totally different fish than what I'd been told at the other big box store. In addition I found out crucial care instructions for my remaining fish that improved and probably saved their lives. The point of my review is that Finattics is an excellent resource for fish owners from novice to expert. It's well worth the drive to Richland for the customer service, knowledge and quality stock they have. Check Finattics out. I'm sure you'll be pleased you did. read more

Definitely a boutique shop rather than a service-less big box. Ethics is the rule of the day @ Finatics. The proprietor (Don) is a little high strung, but very anxious to help customers enjoy the aquarium hobby. They tend to have more specialty items and fish which makes frequent visits necessary. Don is VERY knowledgeable and the service of his knowledge makes the slightly higher prices a bargain. He won't keep Bettas in tiny cups, or sell hyper aggressive cichlids. He's the only pet shop owner I've met with the integrity to refuse a sale if he believes the fish would be going to an inadequate home. Great selection of hard to get species and dwarf freshwater shrimp. He has no qualms about telling a customer where to get a better price on hardware if he can't match it. Just the same, if you buy elsewhere don't expect him to troubleshoot the product for you. His price includes the service and advice he gives freely. read more
