I went here for work dental work because they were in my neighborhood. I even prepaid over $3,000. Long story short, -sloppy work. I almost bled to death. I ended up having to make an emergency visit to an Oral Surgeon. The head Dentist I believe his name was (Dr Siegel). did not even refund my money for that particular procedure. He blamed me. They took over $3,000 of my hard earned money and treated me like garbage. I also had to have three fillings redone by an actual professional/-a Dentist who truly cared about what he/she was doing. The audacity of them to continue to send me emails. Do not get work done here. Unacceptable. Big Smile Dental was a BIG Mistake. All they seemed to care about was money. Unbelievable. read more

This was an alarmingly bad experience. I called ahead to ask if they do dental implants and they said they did. So hygienist was nice enough, then the dentist shows up and she's super abrupt and mean. I felt like she must have something better to do because she proceeded to look only at and X-ray my one tooth and she kind of rudely explains that the dental implant process doesn't start there? How could I have known? She was also annoyed by how far my crown broke. Asking me how this happened (I was literally hit by a car), and why I let it keep breaking (simple answer: I'm poor) and why I thought the crown could be replaced (I didn't, not why I came in) Then I ask if she can check a back tooth that kind of hurt, she puts the camera on that one tooth and acts like it was like a dental horror show. "this didn't happen overnight, how did this get so bad." Don't get me wrong, it's a bad cavity, but I felt like she was trying to shame me. What a dick. She then puts the image on a screen in front of me like "Look how bad this is" and I had to ask twice for her to take it down because she was straight up embarrassing me. Then she gives some half assed advice about brushing (fascinating- never considered brushing, asshole) when I said I couldn't afford to fill the cavity soon. I was billed for a full exam and told to go to someone else for the implants and then come back to them to finish it. NOPE NEVER RETURNING. HATED this experience. Adding this review to the cacophany of complaints all mentioning a lack of care. My husband, son and I all had to get our annual cleanings done before end of year last year so my husband called to schedule a cleaning. We were told that is the service we were booked for. My husband also liked that this place said they work with children and have an area for kids to play as well so that he could play while one of us was with him and the other was getting our cleaning. We showed up and they told us they needed x-rays as we were new patients. Ok, that's happened before. Normal. After taking the x-rays, the dentist came by for about 30 seconds to give us a "all looks good!" and... that was it. Appointment over. No one cleaned our teeth and when we asked, they said they were busy that day. The office was completely empty of anyone except the three of us. They had initially told us on booking that we were getting cleanings, which is why we went, and to show up instead with this bait and switch of getting us to take x-rays without offering the service we had booked for feels SO shady. It was end of December and it's clear to me that they took advantage of us wanting to get the service before end of year and they were completely dishonest about what was being done. Further, this place was filthy. There was a layer of dust and grime covering every overcrowded surface in this space. There was NOT anything for my kiddo to do or play with either, despite advertising otherwise. The entire space is from the 80s as well with you needing to fill out your patient chart on an extremely old desktop computer sitting in the middle of the office - there was no ability for me to fill out paperwork online beforehand. They said we should come for a follow-up visit for a cleaning, but I am completely turned off. Between the blatantly dishonest communication about the services we were receiving and the filthy office, I would never recommend anyone go here. They will take a slew of x-rays, bill your insurance, and send you on your way without you receiving the service you are scheduled for. read more

I have had my dental prosthesis done last year and I am really sorry that I have to say that I am not very happy with the results and that I am very disappointed and very dissatisfied! I have instructed my dentist that I wanted my prosthesis to be done by the dental technicians a certain way, but the female dentist insisted that she wanted functionality more than estheticis which I wanted first and foremost because I am the one wearing it, not her. Upon more than two months of visit and appointments, I ended up setting the teeth myself to make them look better for esthetic's sake. But still, she refused to trim the gums and the palate to my liking so I would be able to speak properly and not make my gums look swollen in my face. After so many pleas, I didn't get what I wanted. I am so, so disappointed that I am not able to wear my dental prosthesis until now. The funniest thing was, the dental office was so quick to charge me and I was the one who contacted my insurance to process my payments because apparently, the person in charge of processing the paperwork and calling my insurance wasn't doing her job properly! I was the one who called my insurance who told me that Big Smile Dental didn't call or contacted them! What a bloody joke! No, I wouldn't recommend this dental clinic to someone who got the same case like me because I am not able to smile with a big smile like that of the name of their dental office because I look horrible with the teeth they made and promised to alter over time but I couldn't make further visits because I am very busy at work and have no car to travel often but order either Lyft or Uber just to get there! And worst of all, I couldn't speak properly because of the very thick palate I was complaining about that they trim during my last visit so I wouldn't sound retarded to everyone I know at work. But they didn't! Instead, the dentist looked annoyed at me for telling her what I wanted to be done! She and her staff took really good care of me. All i felt was discomfort and very lil to no pain. She gave me options on what to do with a bad tooth which i appreciated. They fixed my tooth and i am beyond grateful and thankful..... give them a try if you have teeth issues! read more

I had a terrible experience at Big Smile Dental. Despite confirming that they accepted my insurance, they misled me about the coverage for the procedures that I needed. I specifically asked the staff to check if my insurance would cover the annotated procedures, and they verbally assured me that there would be no problem. Additionally, presented me the amounts I would be paying out my pocket, which was the minimum pay, and I could afford. Hence, after the procedures were done (I presented my insurance card and paid a minimum amount from my pocket). However, via mail, I received a fee of $626 that I was never informed about beforehand. Furthermore, I called my insurance and they stated that the dental office was out of my insurance network, where the insurance admitted that the dental office would have access to that information! Then, when I called Big Smile to enquire about the charge, the office representative simply told me that it was my fee for dental services which my insurance won't cover. This lack of transparency and accountability is unacceptable. The dental office never even apologized for their misleading and not providing me with the information. They put me on a payment plan now. I feel extremely frustrated and taken advantage of, and I hope that no one else has to go through a similar experience. read more

I am so extremely disappointed in this dental office after having been a patient for some time. They are committing blatant insurance fraud and defrauding their patients as well. BEWARE of services you are told you may need and get a second opinion! My husband went in a few years ago and he was told he needed to have a deep cleaning. He agreed to the procedure and paid a hefty bill of what his insurance wouldn't cover. After this, his following cleanings were normal and billed as such. Recently he went in for his usual cleaning and was told everything looked good. The technician proceeded to complete a standard cleaning. Shortly after we received an unusually high bill. My husband called his insurance and was told they had been billed for a deep cleaning. He let them know what must be an error because he did not receive that service. When he called the office to have them correct the issue he was told legally in the state of Illinois once a deep cleaning is performed on a patient the must ALWAYS get a deep cleaning going forward. Ummmm seriously this is a law?!? You forever need to have a deep cleaning? Let's say that was in fact the case.... he still was not given a deep cleaning they are charging for! He has had periodontal cleanings in the past and knows what they are. What are they trying to pull here and how many other people are being over charged? Absolutely unethical! When I first came here, I was hooked to the place. Been coming since. They are great about providing accommodations. I referred my entire family here. I read some other reviews. I agree that billing is the not their greatest strengths when it comes to communication. I remembered when I first came, I was surprised at some of the bills and blamed it on miscommunications. That was solved and didn't happen again. Now they provide estimates before you leave if you want to consider for your next appointment. My dentist referred me to a specialist about a year ago. Today, I regret I didn't see one sooner because now I have a major toothache. What if that has something to do with it? What I don't understand is I just saw the dentist few weeks ago and they found nothing wrong on the x-ray or during exam to account for on-and-off pain. I may have to go for second opinion because my pain have not ceased for five days now. All the hygienists there are great to my family! I think they are the best part of our visits. There are so many we keep losing track of their names but we do have a favorite or two who does a thorough job. Thank you! read more

If only this place cared as much about your teeth as they do about billing! My experience with getting my crown was terrible from start to finish. First off the dentist's bedside manner - it was bad. I was so uncomfortable as she continually scolded her assistant while she had a drill in my mouth for an hour. When she was done I was so desperate to get away. She should have advised a new mouth guard but instead just drilled it out to make room for the new tooth. With the numbing I couldn't feel my teeth to even confirm if it fit. Then for the proceeding months I lived with pain of a poorly fitting mouth guard. I tried to get them to look at it again but they would not make the appointment. Finally after a number of complaints they put me in with the owner who immediately accused me of not wearing my mouth guard which is why it didn't fit. This was so frustrating when I was in so much pain from wearing it after the procedure. He drilled it out further and then had the nerve to bill me for a new mouth guard which I had to fight to get taken off. A year later I am now getting both the crown they did and another replaced because of the damage done by this poorly fitted mouth guard (it literally cracked the underlying tooth). They should be ashamed of this low quality of dentistry. read more

I went to Big Smile earlier in 2010 for a cracked molar. During my diagnosis they found the inside was rotted out and required a root canal. Fine... Initial Visit 1: STRIKE 1: During my inspection, one of the chair-side assistants told me "this is like punishment for not going to the dentist often" WHAT THE HELL DOES THAT MEAN??? Sure I've not been to the dentist in a while but to be told I'm going to be punished kinda worried me. Especially considering I required my first root canal. So the male Dr that set me up for the root canal initially was awesome. He was calm, did his work well, explained everything to me, and made sure I was comfortable. The only factor was that he could not kill one last nerve due to excessive bleeding so a temp cap was placed in the tooth so it could heal and it could be taken another look at. I was told that this was one charge and I should not incur more charges from this point on for the work that was being preformed. I had to ask for some sort of pain killers as my head and jaw for the next two days was killing me. Visit 2: I come back to have said root canal finished. The dr was different this time. It was this Latino woman who man-handled my mouth. At one point during the procedure, I was literally choking and tried to signal that I could not breathe. I required suction of built up saliva. Since I could not breathe out of one of my nostrils, I was being cut off. I explained that I was choking and she just kinda shrugged it off. So here's where things start to deteriorate... STRIKE 2: I walk up to the counter and they are like "Oh that will be an additional 200+ dollars for the root canal." I responded by asking why. Than they were like "Well this was not explained to you that this is a 2nd procedure." I started to ask why I was not explained this in my initial estimate, and nor was it listed on the initial estimate handed to me. I expected to pay for ONE root canal, and than a crown. That makes sense. Instead I got billed twice, so I just grumbled and cut a check. So I essentially paid twice for something that was estimated wrongly in the first place. When I had asked about the other nerve that was to be removed, the doctor looked at me like I had 20 eyes in my head. I walk out without any overview of what I should do, what to not eat/drink, how long I should wait, prescriptions, nothing. My mouth starts KILLING me so I call them back up and get this rather bitchy latino representative. I ask them if I can have a small prescription for vicodin and have it sent to the Wallgreens at DIVERSEY AND WESTERN. (anybody that uses a computer on an every day basis knows that you can search WALLGREENS + DIVERSEY + WESTERN + CHICAGO and you will get store information) This was not the issue. So I call my Wallgreens to find out the status of my prescription... They tell me they have not received it. I call Big Smile back (near closing hours) and the rather bitchy representative was back on the line. She was NOT happy to hear that she had to stay a couple minutes late to help a customer. After correcting her about the WALLGREENS ON DIVERSEY AND WESTERN and not one 6 MILES AWAY, she was quite terse, and promptly hung up the phone as it seemed I had disturbed her evening plans. FINAL STRAW: Well I was expected to come back to have my crown capped. I'm refusing to go back. They've badgered my cellphone with messages, and also spammed my Email and Snail mail boxes with propaganda. This dead tooth has been hurting me due to the nerve that's been entombed in it. Work was shoddy, there seems to be a lack of communication between doctors, and personnel. NOTE: Earlier there was a review that reported an aggressive sales pitch and how expensive this place is. I will happily confirm this fact. So to reiterate: Strike 1: Poor chair-side service (with exception to the one Dr... I think it was Dr Quick, he was the only consummate professional in this house of dental monkeys) Nearly being choked for a minute on my own saliva was not pleasant, mis-communication between doctors, and UNPROFESSIONAL assistants. Strike 2: Poor billing, up-selling, aggressive salesmanship of service without much thought to customer needs and requirements. Strike 3: Poor communications and accuracy of service with concern to customer needs and wants. Oh and I love how before you leave, they make sure you write a good review on their Yelp and other sites that spider the net for reviews. While I applaud Big Smile for the community outreach, and the dental work they hand out from time to time, I still wonder how they have stayed in business. read more

But too expensive for what I paid $100 elsewhere. Nice offices, very professional and nice...just too expensive for what I went there for. this dentistry is professional and affordable. I thought it was for children, due to the giant looming mouth above the entry, but it is most decidedly not. They have the most aggressive marketing of any dentist, and out of grudging respect for their interest in self-promotion, it remains my dentist of choice, even after I moved from Logan Square and out of easy proximity. I would like Yelpers to be aware, however, that I was advised to have four "cavities" filled here which were a result of how my teeth were growing, while my dentist at home in Nashville had kept an eye on them for years and not deemed fillings necessary. Before embarking on any major procedures, I always advise a second opinion. I also believe they shaved my teeth down too far, although I don't give it a second thought now. I had always disliked the dark spots back there anyway and I must admit to obsessing about them a tiny bit and I was glad to have them gone. They were not, however, "cavities" -- they were simply a cove in my back four teeth, so you should be cognizant of how this dentistry defines cavities; they may jive with your personal definition -- they may not. Don't worry - they don't force you to fill them in. It may be an easier way to bill them for insurance all around -- a cosmetic procedure disguised as a painful hole in your tooth. So be thankful. I also got the talking-to of my life regarding gum disease and it kept me flossing for exactly one week. I remain grateful. They are good about insurance, good about specials -- you can find outstanding deals. For example, a teeth cleaning for return customers is $65 as opposed to $175 at my Nashville place. UPDATE: I have deducted a star because of the EIGHTY-EIGHT filtered reviews I noticed on here. When I clicked, there were only five. I haven't been to a dentist in 6 years and I used to get my teeth cleaned twice a year, every year. So when it came time to be a responsible adult again, I searched all over Yelp to find the right place. I chose Big Smile Dental for the $1 x-ray +check up special, location, and good reviews. I felt really comfortable the moment I walked in. The place is very clean, very organized, and everyone that works there has been so accommodating and hospitable. Ive always wanted to get my teeth fixed since they're a little gappy, so I talked to Dr. Siegel about veneers and everyone at Big Smile helped make it happen. I love walking in and seeing how happy Ida or Marina are to see me! I love how personable everyone there is! I like feeling like I have my own dentist again and moreover, I'm not horrified every time I'm scheduled to go in. Rosa and Dr. Siegel put in my temporaries yesterday and I go back to get my veneers in a few weeks. Nothing was painful and they did a brilliant job making sure I was feeling comfortable the whole time. I've spent my whole life being ashamed of my smile because of bad teeth, so now that I have a brand new smile I love, it is worth every penny. After searching high and low for an orthodontist in the city that was reputable, I settled on Big Smile dental. I needed an orthodontist consultation on an old permanent retainer issue (which is neither here nor there...) and found them on Yelp and also looked at their website before scheduling an appointment Their website was offering a promotion (I think - not sure if it's always this way) and I noticed that it was a *free consultation*, which in the world of orthodonistics in Chicago is amazing. Most make you pay $100 just to be seen (ridiculous!). I was blown away at how prompt and friendly the staff was. Dr. Siegel took the time to talk with me through all my options, various pricing and timeline. The added bonus would be the massage chairs and TV screens when you recline. Pretty awesome. I'd recommend this place to anyone looking for an orthodontist or dentist in the city. I first started going to Big Smile a few years ago because it was close to where I was living and it was convenient. But three years later I am still going (even after moving out to the burbs) because of the staff and Dr. Siegel. Words cannot even begin to express how grateful I am for the beautiful smile he has given me. I had been wanting to improve my smile for quite some time, but I just kept putting it off. After meeting Dr. Siegel and seeing the results of some of his previous smile makeovers, I knew he was the dentist for me. He walked me through the procedure step by step and worked with me to create the smile I desired. I had veneers put on ten of my upper teeth. We did a mockup to see what my smile would look like. We were both unsatisfied with the results we got from the lab, but he fought with them until we got exactly what wanted. In the end, the results were better than I even imagined. The staff at Big Smile is amazing as well. They have always been cheerful and friendly. They walked me through the entire process of my procedure, so there were no hidden charges. I knew everything up front based on my treatment plan. I also love that Big Smile doesn't charge up front for the estimated insurance coverage. I know some dentist offices charge the full amount to the patient, and then expect you to get reimbursed by insurance company. I would highly recommend Big Smile to anyone. Superficially, I love that Big Smile Dental has (above their awning) this fantastic and strange art installation of a giant set of teeth being aggressively brushed by a mystical mannequin fairy and a friendly man nurse. I'll admit it was both alluring and a little worrisome, but I took the plunge, and I am glad that I did. My Yelp predecessors were what made me come on in... I will admit that I hadn't seen a dentist in 5 years. My last visit to get my teeth cleaned at some holistic hippy joint cost me $350 dollars and left me with a deep feeling of guilt for not having perfect oral hygeine. So, I was initially nervous about my experience at Big Smile. At the outset, I didn't enjoy the entry "experience" into the place. They whisked me into the hallway where an overtly friendly dude appeared quite suddenly from behind the desk (a little bit like a whack-a-mole, IMO), to take some sort of initiation photograph. I was really anxious, and the environment there is one of exuberant customer service. Everyone was really friendly, and I don't doubt its authenticity, but I have to admit that for me it was a little hair-raising and increased my anxiety about the dreaded five year late teeth cleaning. I would have personally enjoyed a little bit less in-your-face-ness. But that's probably more about me and less about them... Fortunately, Big Smile has many redeeming qualities. First and foremost: the hygienist (Damn-it-forgot-her-name!) was not only friendly and tuned-in to my anxiety about the cleaning and my sort of nasty teeth, but she was very intelligent and explained everything about what was going on with my current oral health and what to do about it. Most importantly she wasn't shaming of my absence from the world of dentistry (though she warned me that she would be if I didn't take my "clean slate" seriously). She was very thorough, and fortunately gentle. Thank you lady! The dentist was nice, and obviously knows his stuff. The office was clean, had a boat load of raunchy tabloid magazines (HHHhhhyesss!) and a television to get sucked into while your teeth are scraped with a miniature scythe. Now I'm writing far too much, but what the hell. I had a "good" time at the dentist, meaning: They were friendly and skilled. The X-rays and visit cost a dollar!!! (The cleaning was extra, but really not much). I trust these folks and will definitely come back, hopefully in less than five years... The one missing star is simply because I was a little cranky pants and not in the mood for such Wham-friendliness. read more

This place is great and I've gotten many of my coworkers to try them out as well. The $1 consultation and x-rays is unbeatable and being able to watch tv while relaxing(as much as one can at the dentist) in the massaging chair makes the experience bearable. I'm not well off by a long shot and they offer financing through Capital One which has enabled me to fix up my grill finally. Finally, I have a great deal of respect for them as they do free dental work every Valentine's Day for anyone brave enough to stand in line on a surely surly February morn in Chicago. read more

I was very, very disappointed with my experience at Big Smile Dental and would not them recommend others. They mis-scheduled my appointment for today and did not seem very sorry once they finally acknowledged their error. I made an appointment for today at 2:30p.m. I live in a completely different part of town so it took me over an hour and a half to get there. When I arrived at 2:15 for my 2:30 appointment, I was told my appointment had actually been at 2:00 p.m and that there was no way I could be seen. The attitude of the receptionist was very snide. It was clear she thought that I was just running late and wanted to make an excuse. Then she made a comment that they had called me that afternoon when I did not arrive on time and that they had not been able to reach me and that she wasn't sure if my number was a working number. Perhaps I was overly sensitive from discovering my appointment time would not be honored, but it felt that she was implying that my phone had been cut off. It was really unnecessary. I had no proof on me that I was telling the truth, I left. When I returned home, a two-hour odyssey, I found found my original email and called Big Smile Dental. After telling my story to an assistant manager (Ida), I was passed on to someone who identified herself as a manager (Laura). Laura seemed very incredulous of the idea that I had made my appointment through email. She kept asking me about a confirmation call, which I never got. FINALLY, she looked for my email and saw that I was telling the truth. From that point, I expected Laura's demeanor to change once she realized that they had in fact made the error. At best, she was lukewarm. It literally sounded like she was reading aloud from a book. She "apologized" for the mistake, but she did not sound terribly sorry at all. All she offered to do was reschedule my appointment which really felt insulting. My entire day was wasted. I lost income because I spent my afternoon traipsing across town instead of going to work. I had to endure cold - snow and snideness. And all Big Smile can do is offer me another opportunity to give them money? I don't think so. I thought she would have at least offered me a discount on any work I would have had done. But it's not exactly about the money. I just wanted to feel like someone in authority cared about my problem and cared about my business. Choose a more professional outfit than this one folks. read more

I like Big Smile very much. The waiting room is sunny and bright, well-stocked with childrens' toys and books and the facility is clean and nice. This is a family care facility. The dental hygienists are all young, sharp, and caring women who are extremely patient and good with children. My son is exceptionally nervous about the dentist, but they are very patient with him and know how to keep him entertained and relaxed. There are televisions for each chair and they have a huge stock of children's movies and shows. I like that they treat my children with dignity and care, not like little dolls or little adults. It's one of those open-door dentist offices, fyi. EDIT: Just had my first appointment for myself. I haven't been to the dentist in ten years. The staff here truly is just incredible. read more

I'm lucky. I've always had good dentists. None of the horror stories you hear from others about painful procedures, rude staff or long waits. Before Dr. Siegel at Big Smile, I had a great dentist. but she was in Warrenville - which for more than inconvenient for a urban Ukrainian Village gal. So a few years back, I began the search. I was pretty cash strapped and Big Smile had a great deal for new patients. So I went. It turned out Dr. Siegel was great. The Logan Square location has easy street meter parking and I didn't have to wait at all. For about 3 years, I've been going to Big Smile and the staff is consistent, the hygienists are sweet and attentive with my delicate gums. Also, he puts on a huge free dentist day once a year around Valentines Day where people can get free cleanings, extractions and other procedures. I was told over the phone that they would "work with me," since they didn't take my insurance. When I arrived I received a 30 minute lecture from the dentist about how bad my insurance is and why I need to pay more for insurance. He also repeatedly insulted the way my teeth looked, probably in hopes of shaming me to go through with their overpriced procedures. After 5 years of working for a startup with no insurance, I had been putting of going to the Dentist for long enough. We finally got insurance and I had recently moved to Avondale/Logan Square. With this place right around the corner, I decided to give them a shot. As expected, there were all sorts of issues with my teeth. Big Smile made it easy on my schedule, got me in and out as quick as they could, and did a great job every time. Dr. Kim did an exceptional job and accepts nothing less than perfection when working on her patients. I had heard horror stories about root canals and the like, but I honestly think I fell asleep during mine as I couldn't feel a thing. After a long day at work it was the best hour of my day. The rest of the staff is very happy, friendly, knowledgeable and comforting during the process as well. Highly recommended! read more

I was a new patient of Big Smile Dental, I was told by one of the dentists there that I needed a root canal I gave them my insurance information and that I had to pay the balance out of pocket, so I did just that. 2 months later I received a bill from Big Smile Dental for what they say are charges that my insurance didn't pay. However before the procedure was even started I was told that with what I had to pay out- of- pocket that the procedure was paid in full. Then besides debating with Big Smile Dental over their over-charge the crown that they did fell out when I bit into a piece of pizza. I then called them and they told me that the crown that fell out was not the tooth that they worked on. I find that hard to believe cause I was aware of the tooth the dentist was drilling on and did the root canal too. However there is no way I am going back to a dentist the does such shoddy workmanship where a crown falls out after 4 months and also that they can charge me more of what my insurance calls over Usual and Cust read more

I just returned from a cleaning/exam which Big Smile Dental graciously offered to me for free, since I was upset at my last visit. Jen, who cleaned my teeth was great - very gentle compared to some other dental assistants I've known over the years, and friendly. Dr. Siegel was aware of my problem from last time (one of his aggressive dentists told me I had three cavities - one a cracked filling - and when I got a second opinion, the new dentist said I should replace the cracked filling, but I had no cavities.) and personally examined me. He actually agreed with his former dentist that one was a cavity, but disagreed on the other, and then, because he knew I was very skeptical, showed me the spots in question with a little camera, so I could see exactly what they were seeing. By gum, I would have said that it was a cavity, too! They also have lots of distractions for you if you need them. You can watch television while in the chair (you hold the remote) and they have massage pads on the chair as well. I liked that they went out of their way to win me back - they certainly didnt need to - they have tons of patients. But whether it's for their reputation (what Dr. Siegel said) or just to do the job best for their clients (what I'd like to think), they seem to really care. read more

I'm a fan. I never have to wait more than 5 minutes for my appointment. The hygienists are always thorough and pleasant. Unknowingly I had an outstanding balance from some fillings I needed that was over 90 days and they didn't hound me about it. They just told me to pay at my next appointment. They are fair and while my teeth aren't perfect, they use the wait and watch method rather than recommend a procedure right away. They've been my dentists for about 5 years now. I've been going to Big Smile Dental since moving to Chicago five years ago. I take decent care of my teeth, and I've really never had a cavity. Over the last five years, I've sat for Dr. Siegel, Dr. Quick and Dr. Garg and they are all consistently excellent. I don't enjoy going to the dentist any more than anyone else does, but these folks make it as painless as possible. Regular cleaning and checkups are more expensive than my dental insurance will cover, but I don't mind paying the extra knowing I get routinely good service and great treatment from the staff and professionals. read more

This man is an artist and craftsman without the pretense that you normally get with other dentists,I recently had six crowns completed and was very nervous ( Cost was 7200.00 ) The whole process exceeded my expectations. I wish I had found this place years ago but better late then never. I am a consultant and salesman and was unhappy with my smile, Dr. Siegel and the staff are very kind and non-judgmental and I would recommend this place to anyone looking to improve their smile and life. Staff is very unprofessional. I used to go there years ago and stopped. I thought maybe things would be different. I called 3 times to verify they accepted my insurance and were part of the network. All 3 times they said yes. I finally scheduled a cleaning for my daughter. A few days later I receive a bill. I called and asked what it was for they said they are not not in my network. I'm only giving them to stars because they are good dentist the reason that I dropped him down to just two stars is the fact that all these years I'm always getting a bill from them every time I see them even though I have dental insurance to find out that they never bothered to tell me that they're not in my dental plan and that's why I'm always paying so much. I do like the care they provide but I feel that they should be more honest when it comes to Billings because I'm on a set income and I've been paying extraordinary fees to maintain good teeth to find out that this last year I've been spending a lot because of problems with my teeth which were hard to figure out considering I see a dentist every 3 months so it's time for me to find a new dentist and find dentist that use my plan which is a big-name plan anyway so I was surprised that they didn't take it read more

Honestly, the only reason I'm giving this place 2 stars is because I didn't end up going to Dr. Siegel for braces. From the moment I walked in, I had an uneasy feeling. I'm not sure why, but I knew I was going to be walking out of there with this place crossed off my list. First thing's first, I had already had a consultation for braces with another place, so I kind of knew what to expect. The first thing out of my mouth when I was taken to the back was "Just so you know, I'm not interested in Invisalign at all." She proceeded to ask why and insist I watch their little video that explains what it is. Fine, I'll watch it. Dr. Seigel comes in shortly after the video is over and the assistant tells him that I didn't want Invisalign. He proceeds to glance in my mouth and tell me I'm a great candidate for it. Glancing in my mouth? Red flag. Oh, before I forget. One of the other things I asked the assistant is whether or not they'd have to cut that skin on my upper lip because of my gap. She looked in my mouth and said it looked fine. So, back to the consultation. I'm talking to Dr. Seigel and I have a baby with me. He's getting fussy and I went to pull him close and he told me "Just leave him. I'll just ignore him." Ummm...what? If you let me just console him, he'll be fine. I just ignored him on this one. The Dr. looks in my mouth and starts giving off notes. He's telling me my teeth looked awful and I needed a cleaning in which I reply "I know" as it had been a year since my last one. He tells me again, "No, you really need one." I tell him again, "I know." I'm sorry, but it had been a LONG time before I had a teeth cleaning and when I went for a cleaning, the women wasn't rude about it. In my head, I'm asking myself if I really want to trust this guy with my teeth. I proceed to ask if they can give an idea of what my teeth would look like (as I was a little unsure of whether I'd go through with it) and as I'm explaining that I'm so used to my smile and my friends and family like my gap, he tells me to smile again. He then says "Oh no, you have horrible teeth. They're not pretty. Yeah, your smile will be MUCH better." and his assistant kind of laughs and seems kind of shocked and he goes "well it's true, the shape is ugly." Look, I don't need sugar coating. Honestly, I'm pretty blunt myself and had I not been there with the baby, I would have probably lost my cool at this point as he's just now beginning to piss me off. You don't have to sugar coat anything, I'm insecure enough about my teeth, but you don't have to be rude. Especially if I'm going to have to see you for x number of months. The Dr. then goes on to list all the things I need to do before we can start with the braces and the list includes cutting that skin (the assistant looked up and looked at me, knowing she had told me that wasn't necessary), checking for cavities and filling them (because he's apparently sure I have some....which, by the way, I've been checked since and I'm cavity-free!), a teeth cleaning, removing my wisdom teeth (something I was told wasn't necessary and could be done after) and a few other things. Oh, he also told me to consider veneers after the braces so I'd have a nice smile. As I'm leaving Dr. Seigel is in the way as he's talking to several members of his staff. They just looked at me, didn't move and he didn't even say "bye" or "hope to see you soon". Nothing. Again, if you want me to spend thousands there, be a decent human being and don't act like I'm inconveniencing you to leave your office. I had another consultation after this one (making that 3) and that person confirmed what the first one said. I opted for one of the other places I went to and couldn't be happier. (That review will come when I'm done.) The best thing about coming here and opting against is that this experience made for a great story that my friends and I laugh about. They're not quite sure how I stayed as calm and quiet as I did and they thanked me for letting them to know to avoid this place, because a few of them were looking for a new dentist. Again, I didn't end up coming to Big Smile after the initial consultation because (1) instinct and (2) the Dr. was so off-putting that I would have been upset with myself if I gave him a penny of my money. I found better payment options elsewhere, another factor. I'm paying a nice amount for braces, this wasn't about finding the cheapest place, but about finding the place that felt right for me.
