A few weeks ago, me and my family went here because we were downtown looking for a place to get a drink and I'll be honest with you. This is one of my favorite bars in all State College. It's different than most in the area. You don't get the same kind of crowd. It's not the college student flooding the doors. It's adults professionals families coming to have a good time in a calm, relaxed pub they're not looking to spend hours knocking back shots or blinding up drinks you can if you want, but it's more sophisticated than other bars in the area, it's found in the same building as the tavern, which is also a great restaurant, but at Adams apple, you don't need to spend the same amount of money as a whole meal. They got good appetizers and great drinks of the restaurant is wonderful old Tavern style of a pub that has a good sized bar to sit in the winter they have a fireplace. The aroma smells wonderful because of all the drinks and to top it. All the bartenders are great at what they do and they will always help you with a drink that you want to specialize or make recommendations all in all it's a great place and I think if you're looking for a bar downtown, especially if you don't want it to be super crowded with college students I would say go here. read more

We enjoyed an Old Fashioned and an Original Sin. The bar was updated and expanded during the pandemic. The bartenders were attentive and friendly. The old fashioned was mixed appropriately, served over a cube with an amerana cherry and a fruit peel. The Original Sin isn't as I remember but that could easily be me. The drink is for those that don't drink and tasted like seltzer with grenadine. In actuality, the Original Sin is champagne with cherry brandy. The prices are a little high for State College and the Old Fashioned was delivered in a slightly non-traditional glassware for the drink. The Old Fashioned pour was also stingy. read more

We went on the Friday night of homecoming. It was pretty crowded. Bartenders we great. There were 14 of us and when we asked to put our name in for dinner we're told they could not accommodate that big of a group which was fine. When we asked if they could just split us up over two or three tables we were told no. We even stated that that we did not need to sit together and were still shot down. Three of us ended up putting in separately for a table. After the two hour wait, it ended up with only 7 of us left for dinner. Once we got to the table they would not give us a seventh chair. The table was large and plenty big for 8. There was an adjacent table only using 3 of their 4 chairs and allowed us to use on. The management came and took it back. This happened twice. When I asked if there was not one extra chair in the whole restaurant I was told no and was scolded like a child. My table-mate got me a chair from a table that was just seated so I was able to finish my meal in my own chair. I want to mention that there were two large booths that sat empty the whole time we were seated. The server was excellent and the food was good. The rules insane and totally unprofessional and whoever that woman was whether hostess or manager was completely awful and needs not be in the service industry. For the total night we dropped a couple of grand and unfortunately because of that one employee we won't be back to do it again we will spend our money somewhere else. One bad apple spoils the whole bunch. read more

What might easily be confused as a back door for the Tavern is instead an entrance to a tiny bar with a rustic, colonial feel. The Adam's Apple has a speakeasy theme and can seat perhaps twenty people, with space for live music, too. The drinks are made well, fairly cheap, and if the bartender is feeling friendly, he might make you his own concoction. The service and the patrons make for an inclusive atmosphere that is very quiet compared to many of the other establishments on the main strip at State College. Not a place to get rowdy, but rather a nice bar in which to enjoy a few quiet cocktails. read more

They're not accommodating to groups. They have no business, yet they discriminated entirely against me and my girlfriends on our night out. We're alumni of PSU. They're actually not even deserving of 1 star, but I can't write a review with 0 stars. I don't recommend going here. It reeks of bleach too. read more

Wow if only zero stars was an option. As a Penn state alum, one of my favorite parts of football weekends is meeting up with friends. Due to the overwhelming number of people in town for the Pitt game, we thought, "Wow let's just try Adams Apple." In our minds, this place would be there least crowded and my oh my do I know why. The bartenders and bouncers are awful. I entered the establishment with six friends. Before we even ordered drinks, the bartender started discriminating against us. After reading some of the comments in regards to racism, I'm not shocked at what happened. The situation then escalated to the bartender asking every person that approached the bar if he/she was with "that group." Because of how offended we were with how our friends were being treated, I approached a bouncer, asking to speak with a manager. He refused. I said "Then were just going to leave." Hidden, speakeasy bar which I found by chance after walking into a small street on my way from the hotel to College Ave. Beer choices are simple, liquor rack is good - including some very nice scotch choices. Lighting is faint/dark, furniture and interior design all made out of wood, portraits on the wall of old athletes, small TV in the corner pointed at three single tables for those there to catch the game or be alone, fireplace for warmth in the winter, bar has no stools so standing is a must if you wanna be close to the action. Bartender didn't put on any airs, nice short and clean conversation; told me about the bar's history a bit. I'm not a sports fan whatsoever but I can recognize a good bar anywhere and this is a classic. Perfect mood to grab a drink and just be for a while. read more

Avoid the Adams Apple on football weekends. The servers are overwhelmed and Kevin, the bartender, is painfully unable to multi-task and has a personality like a sour pickle. When our server Chandry disappeared we tried to pay Kevin for our drinks so we could go somewhere else. Kevin was indignant: "I don't have your tab. I can't help you!" he blurted as he stormed to the other end of the bar. There are many other more welcoming establishments in State College, fortunately. read more

Went for a drink with a friend; there were several open tables. Sat down and waited but we were never waited on. We went to the bar to get drinks and were told there wasn't a drink menu when we asked, that they only had 4 drinks. The bartender rattled them off so fast we were unsure what they were and the bartender seemed unhappy when we asked her to repeat them. I ended up with a very weak and not very flavorful Original Sin. There were other people eating and a very harried waitress who never stopped to see if we wanted to order anything. The bartender seemed to not have much to do except chat with a guy at the end of the bar. I've been to this place before and never had such a unpleasant experience. read more

These people -- at least the middle-aged male bartender -- do not seem to understand, or care, that they are in the hospitality industry. Stopped in after a long drive happy to be back in State College. Nobody came to serve me. The bartender was busy with his texting behind the bar. Was rude and dismissive as I talked to him. The drinks are expensive here. I left a good tip. This bartender was rude, like I was ruining his day because I showed up at 9:30 p.m. and they were closing at 10:00 p.m. I went to Penn State and have fond memories of meeting friends there. WILL NEVER GO BACK. I wish I could give a zero review. This bartender is the worst I ever encountered ever and wish I could get my tip back. He did not earn a dime and I tipped the twit well. I have NEVER written a review of any establishment ever (I was a bartender and know how hard the work can be) but this guy was a jerk and motivated me to write. FYI. read more

Great Bar for a quiet drink. If you have never had an "Original Sin", you have to try it.
