Another neighborhood hidden gem. Great little old diner. You could tell they pay no attention to the decor but all the love and care to their food and customers. We ordered a Denver Omelette, and a burger with chicken noodle soup. Everything is really good. I love a good hash brown and the hash browns here have me hooked. Our go to for good ol' diner breakfast. Don't expect anything fancy. Old decor, seats, and tables but the food is good and reasonably priced. We always forget to take a photo because we immediately inhale the food upon arrival. Service is decent, no chitter chatter, they take your order and you get the food. I do see them chatting a bit to their regulars though. They're quite friendly. Denver omelette 5/5. Big fluffy portion packed with filling. Comes with their ridiculously crispy hash browns and toast. Super burger 5/5. I know it's a basic burger but it's done right. It's seasoned nicely with just the right amount of cheese, mushrooms, and other toppings. I got it with a hearty bowl of chicken noodle. I havent tried their fries yet, I should one day. I'd get this over white spot any day! No muss, no fuss, good old dinner vibes. We love it. read more

Cozy place. A welcoming "Hello" when we entered, even though Jim's was bustling. Within minutes hot tea wasserved in a pot atop the cup. Warming the cup makes all the difference in the world! The scrambled eggs were light & tasty, bacon crispy, the sourdough toast was flavourful. Floor is carpeted so the noise didn't get out of hand the way it does in some places. The place is small and the server walks back and forth without even making eye contact so I could get a coffee refill. There are a couple more servers gabbing at the kitchen. Had a major miscommunication. I'm the type of gal that likes her hollandaise on the side. Not because I"m crazy about fat content, but rather because I hate soggy food. In this case, there was a miscommunication with our waitress who was not a native English speaker. She thought when I said "sauce on the side" I meant sausage. It's not that much of a stretch so I let it go and just moved my food around so it wouldn't get too soggy. DH reported his food felt heavy, greasy, and that the portion size was a little much. He gets the same breakfast at Amelia and never feels heavy from it, so I suspect it was the grease. Service otherwise was solid. Pricing was a few bucks higher than Amelia too, so I suspect Amelia will remain our mainstay for a quick (albeit not the most healthy) breakfast. read more

I have a soft spot for breakfast diners. I came here weeks ago with a friend of mine who was from out of town who wanted to shoot the shit and just chill. She was staying in the New West area, therefore, it was easier for her to stay in the area then go Downtown which is understandably. I found this place initially on Google using the search "breakfast diner New West" which lead me to some of these reviews here on Yelp. The ambiance is your typical diner feel, simple and laid back. The prices are very reasonable for what it is, as breakfasts should be. I had a long list of specifications in accordance to my eating plan. I appreciate the waitress was patient with me in making certain accommodations. I got the basic of soft poached eggs, toast and side hash half order. My girlfriend got the Farmer's Breakfast which reminds me of the Grand Slam...but better quality. read more

I haven't been to other breakfast place in New West and I am sure there are tons to try in this town but Jim's Cafe is always my go-to breakfast in New Westminster. The expectation that they've set both on food and price is quite frankly hard to break. I mean for less than $10 you can get their Farmer's Breakfast -pretty much a Lumberjack Slam (Denny's item that's usually $14+) size breakfast plate here - plus the fact that it's much better too. I don't know about you but I prefer diner drip coffee compared to the (insert classy roast technique name here) coffee that you get from Starbucks or other higher coffee establishments. Something about straightforward drip coffee that brings out the character of diner meals - Jim's Cafe drip coffee doesn't disappoint. The only feedback I have here is I wish the staff would constantly check the coffee levels of their customers because chances are, a drip coffee this impressive won't last too long in their issued small cups. Their pancakes are alright, I find them a little pricey at $3 per pancake. Doesn't bother me though because I'm usually full already just by ordering Farmer's breakfast. I probably wouldn't go here if your craving pancakes. Parking is ample but since the location is in New West's downtown core, you'd have to pay. Ive been here 3 times on weekends and holidays and I never seen it full, but then again I went after 2PM lol. Overall I'd keep coming here for breakfast for sure. read more

The service was great the staff friendly. Otherwise, please do not enter this place. Turn around and leave. It was by far the most disgusting, cheap breakfast food I've ever had and has quite honestly deterred me from trying anywhere new. We had a few bites of our food, paid and left it was that bad. The hash browns tasted like cardboard and the omelet was burned to just a disgusting mess. I had the egg muffin and I can't even describe it. Best sandwiches are made here! My wife love the breakfast sunny side eggs bacon hash brown with unlimited coffee setting. She is probably the most picky person about food on the planet. Anyways, she loves this place and I always felt like other places like dim sum or a big bowl of morning pho. Everytime I got there and start eating, I have never regreted going there. First of all, great coffee. We pretty much drank 2.5 cups each before our food came. I got the shrimp salad sandwich which had large pieces of prawn in it! Super tender and the toast were crispy I give it a 8.8/10. I also ordered a side of hash brown and I was glad that I did. Its no comparison with Dennys hash brown. Went in for breakfast with friends, after 5 minutes we were not offered coffee so I had to stop the waiter to ask for it. After that the order was taken quickly. I noticed they had cheese burger on special so I opted for that instead of the farmer's breakfast. Big mistake. When it came to the table we all just stared at it. The burger was scorched, the American cheese was not melted, it looked awful. My companions told me to send it back but I did not want to cause a scene and I thought it may taste better than it looked. 2nd mistake I made. I took 2 bites then pushed the plate away. The farmer's breakfasts served to my friends looked delicious. I have enjoyed Jim's previously but this has put me off returning. What a shame. read more

After a night of drinking at too many places I couldn't tell time the next morning. I arrived over a hour early to my morning hockey game and noticed I was shaking a bit. Hmm food would be good and I walked around new Westminster searching for a diner. I yelped a close by place and was sat promptly. Decor is a one but that's what I want. I ordered the farmers plate which was $6.50 (the basic $3.95 breakfast wasn't enough for me) and a coffee. I ordered right away as the place was 3/4 full and my food arrived in less than 10mins. The hash browns were crispy yet fluffy inside and absolutely not soaked with oil or butter. The eggs were also not basted with oil and was cooked over easy. The three meats were of good quality and my coffee was refilled in a timely manner. The breakfast came to $9.75 plus tip. Looks like a family run place. I'll give the food a four out of five and overall a three. Thanks for being there! I'll come by for lunch another visit. read more

THIS is the first review for us in our new hood. We are moving to New West and are eager to try out every restaurant we can. Jim's Cafe was one we stumbled into the day of our move. We were hungry and tired, and this place really satisfied our immediate need... good food, reasonable price and fast service. We got all three. Impressed with the burger, as was my partner with his clubhouse sandwich, but it was the homemade chicken noodle soup that was amazing. It was raining that day so it really did hit the spot. The decor, however, screams "Restaurant Makeover" but that's really not what you go into a cafe like this for anyway... Straight forward with no pretense. We're hooked. read more

I lived in New West at 6 and 6 for a year and a half and never went in the door. Unfortunately. Now I live in Deep Cove but I still get into New West about once a month to see doctor, eye doctor, shop and see friends. One day I decided "enough with MacDonalds, lets try Jim's across the street." The cheese burger and fries were a special for $6.25. Delicious! Excellent! And I take some exception to those one or two who said "greasy", not what the vast majority have written and I have never had a greasy anything here. Just good simple cafe food that totally satisfies. Service is great, they try hard to please. I literally cannot visit NewWest without stopping in at Jim's. Maybe the couple of people who weren't impressed are young and spoiled and don't even know what a cafe actually is. I'm old and I remember when "cafes" were everywhere, some good some bad.
