This place is usually busy on the weekends so come a bit earlier to get a table. They can seat a lot of people and it is still packed. The place is older and kind of laid back style. The staff are friendly and courteous. I got the pulled pork hash and my wife got the beef dip. The pulled pork had a lot of sauce and flavor ( peppery, tangy bbq sauce ) and at times, it can be overpowering so you would need to eat the pork with some hash or bread. I remember the last time I was here, it wasn't that bad so maybe this time, I got extra sauce or something. The beef dip was good. Sadly these people do not know what a green salad is or a side salad. It is NOT some lettuce dumped out of a bag (you know the one with bits of carrot and red cabbage in it) that is so not acceptable. Came in on a Sunday afternoon with a slight hangover, not wanting to go to a bar for a Caesar, I remembered that this place is licensed! Another great meal, fresh sourdough Shrimp Sando and Fries with gravy- straight forward - and a delicious (albeit pricey) Caesar Decided to pop in for lunch on a Friday afternoon, I've been meaning to do this for some time. I had the sandwich special which came with two sides, soup and a dessert (which I skipped) the total came to around $12 with tax and tip. I would have given 5 stars but the soup was more of a paste(sometimes happens with pea soup but this was excessive) and the bacon on my BLT was lukewarm. I just had this pregnancy craving for Salisbury steak and was looking for a place in the area. So I called this place and they said their hamburger steak is very similar to that. Even on their menu it said "aka Salisbury steak" my husband drove there to pick it up for me and I was excited to try this restaurant near by but as you can tell in the picture it was very disappointing to eat. In person it looked more black than the picture. I couldn't eat it because it was soooo burnt. Why would they serve such burnt food to customers? It also came with a side, so I got clam chowder which was not good. I got my daughter the baked lasagna with a side of turkey rice soup. The soup was half but I'm glad they only pore half in the container because it was awful. Taste like old soups that were left for days and lasagna was dry and not tasty. Paid $40 and tipped on top even though it was ToGo. I will not be returning. Never had to write a review for food before. It was that bad. read more

Like the restaurant itself, the women's washroom has a basic, "classic" feel. A very whiteish mediocre paint job and the old school tiling could use an update. There's a baby changing table in one of the 2 stalls, but it's a very tight space. Credit for putting the hooks on the walls and not the stall doors where people could grab and run. There's adequate lighting but it could be better. Clean, but it could use repainting around foot level. 3 out of 5 flushes. read more

Great food in uptown New West. One word can best describe this place easily and that is flavour. On three separate visits I've had their pulled pork sandwich, liver and onions, french toast and the Sixth Street Hash. All were excellent in their preparation and tastes. The presentation is simple - it is a diner after all - but the atmosphere, staff an owner balance that out with their friendliness and hospitality. Their pulled pork is made in house and its tender and juicy. I believe their BBQ sauce may be as well too but I never got the confirmation on that. Their french toast is simple and classic - like mom made it. It's simple comfort food (I recommend the platter to add eggs and bacon to the meal). Their liver and onions are rich and satisfying. Their mashed potatoes had a texture that was indescribable. they weren't whipped nor were they lumpy. my best guess is that they use baked potatoes and mash them to get that fluffy, flaked potato texture into their mash. Again, simple comfort food. My all-time favourite so far is the Sixth St Hash. The 15 spice sauce they add to the grilled onions and potatoes elevates their hash above any I've eaten in Vancouver. Mmmm the perfect place for a morning after. Just the right amount of grease, coffee and food. I chose the Crab cake avocado Benny after seeing it arrive at the table for my friend. It was amazing. Hot crispy crab cake stacked with avocado, soft poached egg, and smothered by creamy hollandaise sauce. There was even enough sauce to eat with my housemade hashbrowns. 5/5! Oh boy did it hit the spot. The Pancetta Benny was also delicious. There was a good amount of pancetta for every bite and the expertly toasted muffin stayed just crispy even when soaked in egg yolk. A must when eating Benny's. . Other dishes on the table that received great reviews were the Chicken Hash and waffles. We stopped by for breakfast and the restaurant was busy. We got water right away and then placed our order with the server. Then the wait began. We saw other diners who arrived after us get their orders before we did. We were borderline walking off when the server notified us that there was a computer error and that our food would arrive shortly. Our food did arrive finally and the man dropping off the food apologized for the error. Now the crab cake avocado benedict was really good. It was moist with the avocado and the soft poached egg was perfect. There was a decent amount of hash. The hot cake platter not as impressive. The eggs and ham were done right, but the hot cakes had a gummy texture. No butter was provided and I could not tell if they buttered them up. I did not ask for butter anyways as I was hungry and do not mind plain hot cakes. When paying for the bill, the ? Manager/owner (same man who dropped the food off our table), gave us a discount on the bill and again apologized for the error. I would rate this place a 3.5 stars for this visit. Great job by the team at rectifying the situation and I would consider going back to try other items. read more

on my quest to find local places to eat, I finally decided to try the sixth street grill. Hey!! I was impressed!! I had the Greek Omelette, and it was great. Lots of flavour, the sourdough toast was perfect! The hash browns could have been cooked a tad bit longer, but that's just the way I like them. Solid food, good service value for my money!! So on a recent trip to San Francisco, I was lamenting to my travel companion that New West is missing a good local diner/restaurant that seems to be so common in San Fran. Lo and behold, when we get back to New West this place is open. We were eager to give this place a try and decided to try their breakfast one Saturday morning and it didn't disappoint. It's got a great compact menu of diner favourites, including all day breakfast. The prices are extremely reasonable and the portions are just the right size. There is almost always room for the small bowl of pudding they give you at the end of the meal. The wait staff and friendly and more than willing to make recommendations. One more than one occasion the owner has come around to say hello and make sure all is well. We've been there a few time since that Saturday morning and we've enjoyed it every time. read more

This place just opened around the corner from me recently. Very new, I think they're in their first week of opening and do a grand opening soon. So far, so good! I had the 6th Street hash, a mixed hash of rosemary seasoned cubed hashbrowns (with skin on! yay), pastrami, sauteed onions, and mushrooms (I think), topped with 2 perfectly formed poached eggs and homemade hollandaise sauce. Their coffee was really good too, but what really put them over the edge was their friendly and inviting service & atmosphere. Was looking around one evening for something new, have driven by this restaurant numerous times and finally decided to give it a try and am very glad I did. Two words describe this place....COMFORT FOOD!! The staff is very friendly and courteous. The owner (whom I have recently found out used to own a popular restaurant on Hastings) is hands on and always makes his rounds to make sure everything is good. The food (I have been in 6 or 7 times since finding this place) is always excellent! This place is now my go to place for a good meal. The roasted 1/2 chicken is to die for!! The meat loaf, the spag, the crab cake eggs benny with avocado is great. Most come with a lovely soft fresh chewy bun and rice pudding all for a very reasonable price. I was here on the September holiday Monday and the service was slow because they were short staffed in the kitchen and about 12 tables showed within five minutes of each other. But we relaxed on the cozy patio, sipped a couple cups of tea, people watched and then had an AWESOME breakfast that was well worth the inconvenience of a little wait! I know I will be going here a minimum of several times a week! Loved the sounds of people enjoying themselves, the clattering of dishes.......really reminded of a good New York diner. The sauce was spicy and didnt have any tomatoe taste and couldn't see any meat whatsoever. The garlic bread tasted like oil slapped on it and no butter. Just a sub par place. A shiny new diner-style joint is exactly what this town needed. Sixth Street Grill actually reminds me a lot of the Slocan Restaurant in Vancouver with its brown interior and down-home menu of breakfast platters, sandwiches n' fries, and grandma-friendly fare like roast turkey. We've just had breakfast here so far. It's pretty affordable and portions are good, and I like the pan-fried style hash browns. The Grill is pretty new yet, and will need some time to find its feet and maybe put some more innovative items on the menu - it's not really a diner until you've got PIE - so this is three stars, with potential. A late (for us) breakfast stop, after coming out from a recent early-am medical appointment in the area, and finding most restaurants still not open for lunch. The just 'ok': their meatloaf 'special-of-the-day'. It came with soup - clam chowder was chosen over chicken noodle. The entree plate: consisted of two, small, circular, rather thick pieces of the 'meatloaf', gravy, a scoop of mashed (our choice) potato, and two veggies (fresh broccoli and carrots). The soup - warm, quite tasty, though mostly potato pieces, two little clams were found! The meatloaf - its looks, taste, and texture were more like just hamburger patties, but it was fairly flavourful - the gravy blah. The veggies - the potato was cold and bland, the other veggies perfectly fine, and cooked al dente. The not 'ok': their 3-egg 'house' (ham, mushroom, and cheddar cheese) omelette, which came with some pan-fried potatoes, and sourdough (our choice) bread toast. The omelette - was large, but terribly overcooked, dry, and tasteless. The potatoes - would have gained much in looks, texture, and taste, by more time in the pan!! they were not cooked and browned enough. The toast - yea, like my toast "toasted", and it was. Overall - a not very exciting breakfast experience for us. Heh, no complaints with the service as provided -- it was the food preparations that left a little too much to be desired for us to consider a return visit. read more

I like this place very much. I've been here only twice but I know I will come back for it because it's cheap & tasty. Simple, comfort food and got good portion for the price. I would recommend this place to anyone who asks me about a good restaurant to eat in around here. So far I've tried their beef dip and benny. Really soft buns, tender slices of beef with good dip, mmm! Benny was bit sour for my liking. I think they add vinegar when they make their eggs. Maybe they will not add it if I ask them? Not sure but I will try asking them. Only thing I don't like is that they close at 8pm and to me, it's little too early. I get off work at 7 and by the time I get there, they're closed. I can't believe I haven't written a review for "The Sixth Street Grill yet" This place sets the standard for how to run the best burger joint in New Westminster. Great service, unpretentious, knowledgeable staff, yummy food, reasonable prices, and of course a fantastic selection of beers on tap. I love this place, and have spent many memorable nights trying all of their yummy food selections, especially their "Eggs-cellent Benedicts". I find myself back here almost every day for one reason or another... birthday, casual catch-up, even Mothers/Father's Day. If, you haven't been here before and you are undecided on what to order, don't hesitate to ask one of their knowledgeable/cheerful waitresses to give you one specific suggestion based on what you tell them you like. If, you ask me......try everything on the menu..lol The food is awesome! You MUST check out the "6th Street Burger" their signature burger is topped with scrumptious bacon, fresh lettuce, grilled mushrooms, delicious cheddar and a fried egg. Talk about a protein stack eh? Another favorite of mine is the WINGS!! Plump, juicy, tender crispy-fried chicken wings tossed in spicy Franks Red Hot Sauce served with blue cheese dip and Cole slaw. Don't forget their yummy Yam fries too. "Oh boy, I am getting hungry again" Words escape me when talking about "The Sixth Street Grill" I simply can't wait to go back as often as humanly possible. Never eating here again. First off, let me state that This is my first review of any restaurant, negative or positive. I had never really had an exceptionally good or bad experience that warranted signing up to Yelp. That changed today at lunch, at the sixth st grill Uptown New Westminster. The menus have multiple entries that have been changed to something completely different. I ordered chicken tenders, and fifteen minutes later got a really underwhelming chicken breast which must have belonged to a chicken that stuffed it's bra on the reg. the server apologized for the menu system and fifteen minutes later I had my chicken... Strips. On a bun. It was not at all edible. Bland as hell, no sauce, and a smattering of wilted lettuce. I made the best of it and tried to eat it, but had to end up tossing it back on the plate after the third time it fell apart. At $8.95 the chicken breast and the chicken fingers together would have almost been worth it, but alone were very small servings. I asked to talk with the manager who ended up screaming at the waitress that he would not talk to anyone, and that "they could go to McDonalds if they wanted a proper chicken burger" and that's a quote from the grumpy old owner who may as well have been a 70+ year old child. I only hope that the diners that were in the dive of a restaurant heard him yelling at us and also choose never to eat there again. read more

However, the service was good. The restaurant is busy and has a relaxed vibe. There's signs on the walls such as "no working during drinking hours". Our breakfast go to. My partner always gets the pulled pork hash and I have tried just about everything on the Breakfast menu. My favourites are the crab cake and spinach benny and the pancake platter. Coffee is always good. Service is fast and their kitchen knocks it out of the park in speed. We have lunched there as well and their burgers are excellent. I tried the Chicken cordon blue burger this weekend and it was so yummy. The staff is very friendly and welcoming. Part of the burger wasn't cooked all the way through, not a huge deal but I doubt that is how it's supposed to be. Not going to go again, not with the excellent selection near uptown new west. Moreover, I don't care that much about service, but only as far as waiters do everything on time and don't distract me. Food is the only thing I come to restaurants for. I ordered tomato soup and chicken souvlaki (with rice and greek salad). Tomato soup was fine, but what the hell didn't they tell me it's very spicy?! It wasn't stated in the menu, and they didn't tell me! Some people just can't stand spicy food. Regarding the souvlaki, it was... okay. Can't say it was tasty, but it wasn't bad. Often I ask for hollaindaise sauce on the side because I'm abit of a health freak (that's why it looks like there's no sauce ontop). Price is fairly cheap nd quick service.
