Consumer alert!!! For all my Richmond, Houston friends and family this is just a forewarning, you can use them if you want, and I'll revert this post if the company lives up to its 4 1/2 star reputation on Yelp, but please save yourself from time and money if you have plumbing issues don't use these guys. I had a pipe leak in front of my house less than 2 years ago, they charged me almost $1k, and now the leak is back and this is how they leave it because a work warranty couldn't be sent out to guarantee their work. How crook is that?!? Don't use Big State Plumbing Inc

As a repeat customer, I wouldn't recommend Damon Hinson to anyone! I should have run like Forrest…read moreGump if I knew that he is a scam artist to begin with. I was too trusting and loyal to Damon which was a mistake! Damon accepted the job to unclog my atrium drain but was unable to finish it after 3 days (around 8 hours) being at my home. The worst news is that he took my $780. He ignored my demand letter that I sent on 7/23/25. His deadline to pay me back was 7/25/25 before midnight. Complaints against Damon had been filed with the Texas State Board of Plumbing Examiners and Houston BBB since he refused to refund my $780. Damon had been lying to me since 7/16/25. Red flags were all over the place. He came over to my home in the late afternoon around 6pm without investigating the issue with me before giving me the estimate. When I tried to pay him using my credit card, he said no! I wasn't protected when paying him by cheque. He knew how to screw me up pretty well. Damon was attempting to make me pay him another $780 on 7/17/25. He told me to cancel my cheque payment and wanted me to Zelle him the $780. Chase Bank told me that he cashed the cheque already. He said he had no idea that he had cashed it. That was a crime! Damon was very incompetent because he kept telling me that my atrium drain is tied to the sewage line which is untrue! On 7/18/25, the other plumber (who was my 2nd opinion to bust Damon's lies) had confirmed that the drain outlet is in the community shrubs in front of my home. I have proof in writing by this plumber. My HOA had acknowledged the issue. On 7/21/25, it was Damon's last chance to unclog the atrium drain, he told me that he had to look into my sewage system. He kept saying that in order to unclog the drain, I had to pay him another $500 something in order for him to keep going with this job. At this point, he only cared about providing more services for more money! He truly was clueless. He kept bringing up that he smelled poop at the atrium. What an idiot! If I let him run the sewage clean out, he will damage my home! At this point, I immediately declined service for the 2nd estimate and told him to leave. I caught Damon in the lies over and over! He had been telling me, my family and the rest of his customers that he is a master plumber! Per the Texas State Board of Plumbing Examiners, Damon has a journeyman license. I couldn't trust Damon anymore after all. I am very pissed off and stressed out because it is surely very dang hard to trust any contractors these days! I no longer want Damon as my go-to plumber for life. Whoever is trying to consider Damon Hinson for any plumbing work, forget "the benefit of the doubt"! Stay the heck away from DH Services!

I thought I would try a local small business and put out a request on Yelp. Within 5 minutes I got a call, and Damon was at my place in a couple hours. He charged a fair price and got the work done the next day with a high quality commercial brand. It was quality work, the install went as planned, and I wouldn't hesitate to call them again with my next job. They are a small business getting started, and they really want to earn your business. I couldn't be more thrilled with how it all turned out. It's important to support local, independent businesses!

Our garbage disposal started leaking on Sunday and we needed someone quickly. The companies we used before weren't available until Wednesday and couldn't give me a quote without coming out. I sent messages to several companies on Yelp and Inheritance Plumbing responded within minutes. Their service fee was $125 but waived if we approved service, which seemed fair. Chris estimated a 3:00pm arrival but later texted that he was delayed. He didn't arrive until 5:00pm. Once here, he quoted $785 to replace the disposal. Based on my research, average cost is usually $400-$500. I asked for details and was told the price included a 50% markup on the disposal plus a $350 flat fee. I reluctantly approved because our schedule didn't allow us to wait longer without a working kitchen sink. Afterward, I looked up the exact disposal and saw it cost $200 at Home Depot. Even with a 50% markup (which I also think is high) that would be $300. I also know that businesses don't pay customer costs so that seemed really high. Add in the $350 labor, and the total should have been closer to $650. With cash and first time customer discounts, we paid just under $700, but I still feel this was significantly higher than fair market pricing. I later spoke with two friends who own plumbing companies, and they confirmed that the price should not have exceeded $500. We also run a few businesses and I understand needing to cover overhead and labor costs, but this felt more like an "emergency fee" than a standard labor charge and feel like we were price gouged. I called 2 more reputable local companies the morning after and both quoted under $400. As a consumer we would expect fair pricing and this was definitely not fair. Overall, the work was completed professionally and same-day, but the pricing was much higher than other companies. For that reason, I personally would not use this company again.

He unhooked the water softener and i paid him 6000 dollars for a water softener and installation neither of which were ever received. The softener is necessary as we have a well and the water has heavy sulfur content. So now my kids have been having to bath in dirty water which I made the company aware of which didn't prompt any more urgency at all. On top of all this i had to contact the company that built my water softener and they said it wasn't broken in the first place but sitting and not being hooked up has caused it to need parts replaced so now that has costed me another 800 dollars. I'm just glad i didn't pay to replace the water heater and well pump like he said i should. We found out those were both fine as well. We have currently sent him an official letter to give him one last chance to remedy this before I am forced to sue him. I will leave an update once i get resolution. I would strongly urge people to avoid working with these people. It really hurts when you trust someone like that.
