Fun experience! I found this place on Groupon. I'm glad we were up in the area during a slower season. The tour of the mine was fun. We only got a little bit of gold while panning. Tour guide Jake was friendly.

Was visiting with family for a wedding, we decided to stop around and find some things to do as a family. We came here for the gold panning and tour of the cave. We had a big group which lead to some of the group not being able to hear the first time of the tour, but our tour guide was AMAZING, and made sure everyone got equal information of the tour. The tour guide was very informative and did a great job of giving us a good experience of what the cave and mining experience was like back then. Our family had a great time learning stuff and ending the day with some gold panning and checking out their shop! So much cute stuff you can't resist leaving without getting a souvenir.

During my time in South Dakota, Big Thunder Gold Mine was one of the few places that I'd enjoyed. It was fun trying to find pieces of gold and the little boy was a handful in showing us how to do it. We venture into the mine and I never knew that it can be chilly the farther you go and I was wearing shorts that day. The safety helmet was useful because parts of the mine was getting smaller and I even had to duck my head some. It was nice knowing the history of Big Thunder Gold Mine and the tour guide was awesome as well as the employees there.

The tour was pretty cool and educational. A bit hard for older folks to walk. We bought the tour plus one panning for gold. Lost all the specks but the people who worked there were kind enough to help us find them! Overall fun experience.

Four specks of gold from panning... cool!

What a great place! Take the cave tour and pan for gold. Cool gift shop, great staff and tour guide. Don't pass this one by, I almost did. Go check it out!

Big Thunder Gold Mine was a 5! Our guide for the tour Alex was fantasic (left her a review in the little wooden box )! What a smart girl! I loved seeing the youth that was employeed by the Mine. The education and history behind this place is amazing. It really gets you thinking about the many things we take for granite and how hard life was even 100 years ago. The gift shop is just the right size and I even got a beautiful Himalayan Salt Lamp. The biggest one I own now! They also offer Gold Panning. My family didn't do this but there was ALOT of others. The mine is located in Keystone, South Dakota. Thank you all for the great tour!

What a fun and educational experience. The mine tour was great. Our tour guide had great stories to tell throughout. He not only told us about the history and the mining methods but he also showed us how things would be as a miner. The gold panning was one of the better ones I've experienced or tried. They included actual gold flakes in each pan. That really made it fun for the kids. Even though it was just a few specs of gold, the kids had a mission and knew that with perseverance, they could get a little vial of gold.

The tour was a lot fun, educational, and the tour guide was really friendly. The shop was really cute and the gold panning was fun too as we found 2 gold flakes. Sad that the sun was really hot but overall great place!

Jessie was a very knowledgeable guide. Plus, Rattlesnake was very helpful when panning for gold. I would recommend this place to everyone.

The scale and setting change the experience the moment you arrive. The approach itself is scenic, with winding roads and forested surroundings that built anticipation before the monument even came into view. I kept glancing through the trees, waiting for the first glimpse. Once I reached the main viewing area, the carved faces of Washington, Jefferson, Roosevelt, and Lincoln appeared set into the granite cliff. The effect felt both precise and surprisingly integrated into the natural rock face, as if the mountain had always intended to hold them. The visitor area is designed around walking paths and viewing platforms. I took my time moving along them, gradually changing my perspective. From a distant panoramic view to closer vantage points, the details in the stone became more apparent with each step. The space felt open and well maintained, with a structured layout that encouraged moving around rather than staying in one spot. I found myself pausing at different angles, noticing how the light shifted across the faces as the afternoon wore on.

If you're considering a trip to South Dakota, stop looking around and book with My XO Adventures…read more Daniel was our tour guide --he is truly one of a kind. Our tour took us through some of the most breathtaking locations, including Mount Rushmore, the Badlands, and so many hidden gems we never would have known about without him. We also went to Wyoming and saw Devils tower and beautiful frozen waterfalls. But what made this trip amazing wasn't just the scenery, it was Daniel himself. From the moment we started, it was clear that Daniel goes above and beyond for his guests. He thought of everything--water, coffee, snacks, chargers, binoculars--literally everything we could have needed. He is like a walking encyclopedia, sharing history, stories, and fascinating details that made each location come alive. We never felt rushed; instead, he took his time to make sure the experience was all about us. One of the most memorable highlights was something completely unplanned--stargazing in the Badlands. Living near a city, I never get to see the stars like that. But out there, I saw shooting stars, the Milky Way, and even satellites. It was absolutely magical, and it wouldn't have happened without Daniel. He even brought his camera and took stunning photos, which he sent to us at the end of the day--such an amazing touch! This wasn't just a vacation--Daniel said something that really stuck to me, it was a reminder to slow down and reconnect with life and nature (I have a high stress career and always looking to disconnect). The beauty of South Dakota was unforgettable, but without Daniel, we wouldn't have enjoyed it nearly as much as we did. If you're on the fence about booking with My XO Adventures, just do it, It's SO worth it, and you'll walk away with memories that will last a lifetime. Thank you, Daniel, for making this one of the best trips I've ever had!

We decided on the Badlands Sunset and Stargazing tour with XO. Our tour guide Dan (retired Dan)…read morewas phenomenal. We are in our 70's and Dan was so perfect for us. He knew so much about the Badlands. We learned so much that we never would have known if we just drove through on our own. He was a scout master and he comes prepared with his camera with lenses that take beautiful close up pictures that we never would have gotten on our own. He will take pictures of whatever you want. We were picked up at 3:15 and dropped off at 11:30! We even stopped on the way at Wall Drug. The day we went, unfortunately , the weather was not aligning with the night sky we needed to see the stars which is something no one has control over. But the sunset was beautiful and the Badlands did not disappoint so I got over my no star night. My husband said a few times to me, this is well worth the money. He was just the greatest and Aimee the owner was very much updating us about the details and they brought snacks and a huge sub sandwich. I am attaching some pictures but they are ones that I took. I haven't been able to save his pictures in my photos yet. I'm not great at figuring this tech stuff out. P.S. we saw so many bison really up close.
