First time trying this restaurant after hearing good reviews but if I could give this place zero stars I would. First our server didn't card us for alcohol, and the drink we got was the Bahama Mama and it tasted like watered down orange juice. Then the food came out and could tell immediately something was off. The chicken sandwich was watery and felt like rubber in our mouth. Second the Wings came out and we couldn't even bite it off the bone it was less than room temperature and the pulled pork nachos were fatty and tasted like hotdog. They tried to cover the awful taste by drowning the nachos in sauce. Once we stated we were unsatisfied and didn't want to pay since we didn't touch any of our food the manager came out infuriated. Stating they have the best nachos and wings in Bloomington and that were crazy for thinking otherwise. She snatched out food and stormed away then came back to make us pay for the drink we didn't touch either and wasn't carded for. We refused and she once again stormed off very unprofessional and childish. The service was poor throughout the experience included our waitress who didn't check up on us once unless we were looking for her. Came in pretty late and they sat us down at the bar, promptly got drinks and put in the order for an appetizer since they close at 10. They were super accommodating and the lady behind the bar was personable and had a great vibe (and tattoos!). Took 50 mins to get our food and our plates were both so hot... definitely under a heat lamp. In addition I think my bun cooked extra under the heat lamp because it was ROCK HARD. Great food, better beer! It's hard to find a spot that offer beer at this level of quality AND great food! My favorite beer was the Hoosier red ale. It was the perfect balance of flavor without the bitterness that many beers have. The biggest knock out was the Go Big Burger. The beef patty AND pork was a unique mix that I've never seen at other restaurants. This is one of the best sit down restaurants in Bloomington. The food is exquisite. After many trips there, the Candied Bacon Bomb and the Maple Bourbon Chicken sandwich are my favorite items on the menu. The burger is unique containing balsamic glaze, caramelized onions, and garlic aioli. It is one of my favorite burgers to get in all of Bloomington. The healthy grilled chicken in the Maple Bourbon chicken sandwich posses a great tasting sandwich. The caramelized onions, bacon, and complimented with a tasteful bourbon BBQ sauce that ties the sandwich together. I highly recommend Big Woods to have a nice dinner. The food outshined the less-than-okay service we received, but otherwise, I had a great experience. The pizza I got (Forager) was not only the perfect size, but the crust tasted sooooo good. I consider pizza good when I can eat the crust by itself without a sauce to save it and this crust was perfectly crisp on the outside and soft/chewy on the inside. All my toppings tasted fresh and paired well with the cheese/sauce. My friend got the second thing I would have chosen which was their 5-cheese Mac 'N Cheese with bacon. Made a reservation for a group of friends because I had heard such great things but was so disappointed. We all ordered drinks and food -- safe to say the food and drinks were overpriced for the quality we got. My husband got an old fashioned, it was definitely not worth it since it was more water than whiskey, it took him forever to get a beer, my friends also felt uncomfortable ordering more drinks because the waitress felt overwhelmed. Was dropping my daughter back off at school and went to get something to eat. We wanted to try some place we hadn't been before so we came here. First, loved the atmosphere of the place. There is a big outdoor patio but at the time we were there we sat inside. Looks to be limited seating inside just from what we could see. The food was excellent. It took a while for it to come out so wouldn't want to be in a rush but felt the food was well worth the wait. This looks like an unassuming restaurant in Bloomington, Indiana but the mediocrity ends there. Staff were super busy but most attentive. My pulled pork sandwich was uber tasty as was my husband's fish and chips. I must say - with trumpets sounding and angels singing - our food was served piping hot: nobody but nobody seems to pull off this one very important element of the dining experience anymore. Horrible service, exorbitant prices for a drop of food amounting to less than a happy meal at McDonald's. Ordered the chicken tacos and got five times more corn than chicken on the tacos. They are also smaller than the size of my palm. One waitress was very rude and wouldn't even look at us after giving us silverware that was forgotten with our meals. I was super excited about visiting for the first time after reading all the great reviews, but unfortunately we were a tad disappointed with the food. Upon a recommendation from another review, I ordered a bowl of chili with a side of Mac n Cheese. There's nothing better than chili on a cold day! And mix a little chili in the creamy Mac....however, the Mac wasn't creamy at all. It was overcooked and really dry on top, with the flavor being a bit bland. Perhaps just a bad day. My husband ordered the fish and chips and had to take the breading off because it was super thick and mushy/greasy - assuming the fryer wasn't hot enough so it soaked up the grease. The fries were bomb though. I do recommend the nachos as a starter. Those were really well done with great flavor! The hiccups won't keep me from trying again. This was my first time going to Big Woods-Bloomington. I have walked by the restaurant numerous times on my way to Kirkwood, but finally my friend suggested that we give it a try. I have to say the place was amazing. The service was impeccable and the environment was comfortable and warm. We were seated right away and greeted by our friendly server, Sarada. This place is located in the Indiana University Area and is pretty close to campus. I came here when the it was pretty slow. The service was good and the food was delicious. I ordered their signature burger and it did not disappoint. Even though I did not partake, this place also has a pretty decent full bar. There is only street parking, which was not difficult to find a spot. So that you are ahead of the game, truffle fries are just fries with some parmesan type dusting on them. I am surprised the overall rating is not higher. This is a gem in Bloomington. Great outdoor seating in a quiet spot. Cozy indoor seating but it's relatively small so plan ahead. Best wings in town- smoked chicken with delicious seasoning/rub/sauce. As many people have said -the pulled pork BBQ nachos are amazing. My kids love the pizza and cheesy bread . Their fish and chips and burgers are delicious. Their side salad is large and fresh. I love their home made salad dressings. Their tartar sauce is also really good. My family visited this restaurant in between soccer games at Karst Park. We were pleasantly surprised by the menu options and all loved our food. The pork nachos were amazing (and Gluten free!), the flat bread pizza was perfectly crisp and done right, and my son had the fried rice which was decent, although the sauce on the chicken wasn't his favorite.
