I've been coming here since I was a kid, and it never disappoints. The food is consistently delicious, and the live music adds a great vibe to the place. After a day on Lake Lemon, it's the perfect spot to dock the boat and either enjoy a meal inside or grab some carryout. Their pizzas are fantastic, but the ribs are truly my favorite. Wait staff is insanely disrespectful. Even after being told who was responsible for the bill I was still given the bill. The server even made sarcastic remarks when she gave me the bill. I tired to pay the bill at the bar to avoid any conflict and the bartender told me I could not pay at the bar and had to pay the sever and when I returned to the table, the server sarcastically asked me if I was mad about something. There were several people at our table who felt the server was disrespectful and has been this way during multiple visits. The only person who is consistently good with service and respectfulness is the bartender. Otherwise the wait staff is extremely inattentive and rude. If you want drinks you have to get up from the able and go to the bar and order. I even overheard the waitress talking about how she got "screwed over" on her tip by me. It's extremely shameful because this SHOULD be a good place to visit. But the wait staff along with the lack of presence of the ownership causes it to be an absolute disaster. Nice local bar and restaurant in Unionville Indiana. The location, close to Lake Lemon, is pretty although there is no actual access or outside seating to appreciate the lake. Despite being busy and understaffed the day we visited, the waitress was cheerful. Kudos to the only cook who managed to serve the food hot, delicious and quickly. I hope the owner pays this woman her weight in gold. Portholes is located on a twisty, bendy road, seemingly in the middle of nowhere, so not the kind of place you want to run out of gas or have one too many drinks. read more

We had dinner for our last night in town for my bachelor party. A patron at the table next to us yelled at my brother because he ''Looked'' at her. My other brother defended him and was kicked out. The waitress harassed to pay the bill and get out at the same time. She was terribly unprofessional and caused a scene in front of children. She followed us out and got in our faces saying '' What are you going to do''. The bill was $239.23. This was a hefty price to pay after our dinner and last night in town was ruined. read more

If I was writing this review yesterday, it would be a four star review due to many previous visits with good food, decent service despite staffing shortages, and a cool dive bar vibe - but today my family and I went to Port Hole Inn, and it was a terrible experience. Two stars is generous given our experience tonight. We waited 20 minutes to place our order, but we were understanding because they were absolutely slammed. Our waitress was immediately defensive with patrons coming in to sit down with unbussed tables saying "give me 20 minutes, I'm only one person", which wasn't necessary to say. We ordered an appetizer because we thought it might be a minute before we got our meals, again understanding they were exceptionally busy. I counted at least 6 wait staff, which didn't seem to be lacking given the size of the place. They were horribly disorganized, some standing around, others taking smoke breaks. We waited AN HOUR AND FIFTEEN MINUTES for one order of fried clams to arrive at our table. Our waitress brought us drink refills and we asked her to check on our order, as others that arrived WELL after us were getting their pizza orders. The waitress continued to make excuses in a less than pleasant tone and it seemed as though the primary issue aside from the kitchen being exceptionally slow and underequipped, is that they were taking carry out orders over the phone and prioritizing them over customers that were already THERE. What should have happened is anyone taking phone orders should have told then it was gonna be 90+ minutes. You prioritize your tables first. My husband's catfish was mushy and inedible and the fries were severely undercooked. We would have complained about the food, but since our waitress VANISHED until it was time for our bill, we decided it wasn't worth the time as we had already been there an hour longer than we should have been. The inefficiencies in the kitchen are easily fixable. The owner likes to blame staffing shortages when in reality it's his staff not working as a team, taking smoke breaks when there are 4 tables that need bussed, hiding out in the kitchen when people are waiting to have their orders taken, and churning out call in orders while people at tables are waiting hours for food. We really love the atmosphere at this place and have been customers for years, but tonight will have us reconsidering the trip out there for this kind of experience. read more

Upon arrival with my wife and 2 kids, we were pointed to the seating area rather than being seated. We sat at a dirty table for 10 minutes before someone acknowledged us. Another 10 minutes later our table was wiped and drink order taken. 20 minutes after that we got our drinks. We were told the drinks took so long because "they ran out of cups". We put our food order in. After about 30 minutes, a couple sat at the table next to us. They got their food after about 15 minutes (2 items were exactly what we ordered). We asked where our food was and they said it was about to be plated. 15 minutes later we asked again, where is our food? Then, what we assume was a manager came to our table and said "don't worry, your meal will be comp'd". 10 minutes later they asked if we wanted a pizza to take home. We politely said, no thanks, we just want what we ordered. After waiting another 10 minutes, we walked out. My 9 and 5 year old had to eat Wendy's at 10:30pm because of the incompetence of the staff. I used to go here all the time as a kid and thought it would be fun to take my kids. I will never go here again. read more

Food is delicious, short staffed but very friendly. Always enjoy my experience coming here. Food is excellent even if you have to wait a little bit longer. Pub grub. Music on weekends varies from very garage band to some internationally well known local talent that just likes to kick-back and jam with the locals. Guarded secret venue, Willy Nelson played here in 1981. Used to be a biker bar in the 1970's. Bullet holes in the ceiling. Sordid past. Before that it was a hot spot drive in for the new lake crowd, when Lake Lemon was newly built, summer 'camp' homes dotted the shores and water-skiing talent matched Cypress Gardens. After dinner take a short walk to Lake Lemon. Several public access points, just ask around. Much silting in has left the east half of this shallow lake to become a rare bird sanctuary. Kayak accessible. Sightings from Eagles to Swans and the occasional Whooping Crane - learning to fly the migration routes by piggy backing with mentoring Sand Hill Cranes. This magical area around The Port Hole has one foot in each neighboring county. This curiosity has left most county maps for Monroe & Brown to only show half the lake and surrounding area. Often overlooked, as it's size is so often underestimated, it has become a secret poor man's paradise. A well guarded secret at that. Rarely crowded, prices are fair. read more

Let's face it - going to a small-town restaurant or especially a bar when you're out of your element can be understandably a bit wary, but the Port Hole Inn luckily was a decent enough place. After walking through the forest all day, our party needed some grub and beers, and there is really nothing else around here. The place was simple, but clean. It was fairly busy, but not enough that we had to wait or anything. We didn't receive any strange looks, there wasn't an overwhelming cigarette smoke smell or anything, and service was pretty friendly. There was a band starting to set up as we got there, and began playing while we were eating. It wasn't obnoxiously loud, but we sat as far away as possible anyway. Didn't bother us, just wasn't our thing - some kind of banjo music. The food was tasty and satisfying. I tried the catfish, which apparently is their specialty. I don't believe I have ever had catfish before *gasp* so I figured I should try it. I have nothing to compare it to, but the batter was flavorful and the fish itself was flaky, although I felt like I needed to add tartar sauce otherwise it would have been too dry. I had hush puppies and a baked potato for sides. They were pretty much as expected - nothing out-of-this-world but not bad. If I'm in the area again, I have no problem coming back here, although I certainly won't be anticipating my return. read more

Visited the Porthole Inn for the first time September 13. Seemed to be a fun atmosphere with a band that was setting up. Ordered a round of beers from our server Cassandra who seemed to be impaired. She was almost asleep standing up. Ordered a cheeseburger. After not seeing our server or our food for over an hour. We got the attach of the kitchen staff who noticed we still didn't have food. After they found our impaired server, we realized that she never put our order in. Wish I could comment on the food. But we never got any. Great place, been missing out all these years. I love catfish, you can get on the bone, which I love or have filets. The mushrooms are hand breaded and delicious. The ribeye steak is real good and the breaded tenderloin are out standing. Have to a couple real good bands, and they have an excellent selection at the bar. The prices are right in line with the quality and quantity of the food. Excellent staff, very friendly and work fast. read more

OK. For starters, this is new "Port Hole" on the south side of Lake Lemon. It's a destination for weekend road rallies and good place to go for locals needing a cold beer or an affordable meal. First visit... last visit... our server told us all pizzas were 10" pizzas, so we ordered three thinking we were getting personal small pizzas. This was not the case. One wasn't even put in as an order, though we did have an incorrect calzone on our bill that had to be removed. We waited a long time for the food, since the incorrect calzone that was ordered was brought out, explained it was wrong, and then we were told it will take longer now for the rest of our food. We get our food, and one calzone we actually ordered was incorrect. We told management of our issues, and the male manager was excellent and willing to help us. Then we experienced the owners. When the female owner came to the table, she was very gruff about our issues and offered a 5% discount and didn't seem to mind that 5 new customers had a very bad experience. She ended up redoing all of our checks, and we finally paid. This was over two hours after we first sat down. When the change was brought for the two of us who paid cash, it was off and less than what it should have been. When confronted, she threw down $4 on the table, which equaled at least the paper money amount I was owed. Another person at our table still never got her change. The manager told us to split what I received. I explained again what my actual change should be and that my friend still needed her change. She went to the back and got $4 and slammed it on the table and walked off. I have never been to a restaurant with such poor service, and I have absolutely never had the owner of a restaurant tell me to split my change with another customer. Needless to say, none of the five of us will be returning. read more
