Overall, I do like this particular Big Y. I've shopped every iteration of the store- from Victory to Hannaford to Big Y and I have to say Victory was my favorite. The reasons why I liked Victory are the reasons I like the store these days. It's the only "grocery store" I've come across that carries the occasional locally grown produce, and I will shop that Produce department hard until I find where they're hiding those delicious farm-grown tomatoes. Victory used to carry a great selection of grown local produce. But other than tomatoes? It's a trip out to Bridgewater or somewhere else on the edge of the world to find a farm stand. Their rotisserie chicken is pretty tasty, but . . . I have to admit, I lived on Victory's rotisserie chicken all one summer while they carried a Korean BBQ flavor. A little variety here might be nice, just sayin'. I'm not going through every department but, it's especially irksome to consistently get 90% of my shopping list filled here and still have to go to S&S for my cat's preferred brand of litter- it's just not carried here. However, the employees are friendly, so very normal without dragging their personal idiosyncrasies into work for everyone to deal with ( I'm thinking of you, S&S) and if something goes wrong as it did for me this week, the employees will fix it and make it right. And the biggest thing that always stands out for me is that of all the employees I've made chit chat with over the years, people seem to long-time workers and most important of all they speak of how much they like working here. That goes a long way for me when customer-facing workers say that. So it's no Victory and I still have to roundup the loose ends of my shopping lists elsewhere but I like it! I was at the store this (Sunday March 29, 2026) morning between 9 and 10. I bought a quart of milk something happened at the register at self check out. The woman walk over a viewed the tape and basically accused me of stealing. It was embarrassing to say the least and she was rude. I go there every week now I'm will go somewhere else. read more

This Big Y gets a key differentiator in today's brick and mortar experience: customer service. Every single employee - from the produce stockers, to the baked good bakers, to the baggers and cart retrievers - treat every customer with a smile and a bit of chit-chat (if wanted). Prices are comparable to nearby grocery stores, although I'd say the layout of this floor plan has me wandering back and forth when looking to complete the list. Not a huge issue, only a wee bit frustrating when scouring the aisles. The other thing: if you're into curbside pickup (a la Stop & Shop or Target), it's not offered here - but they do deliver via Instacart. read more

Pros: Produce all year round. The friendliest and sincere employees. I know when I set foot inside the store that it won't be overly crowded and the vibe is always positively relaxed. One entrance is completely closed. What with a pandemic going on, you would think they would have one side an entrance and the other an exit. But no. Everyone is squeezed into one cattle corral coming and going. What is the matter with the management at this store?? Also, I was unable to get the sale prices because you can't enter your phone number (as opposed to scanning the card) at self-checkout, and the Service desk was closed. This store is about a mile from my house, but I won't go back. Its disappointing every time between prices and this type of nonsense. Stop & Shop, while definitely not perfect, is way better. Just returned from a lousy shopping experience at Big Y Market in Norwell Ma. The store was not stocked, lots of empty areas with zero stock. When I checked out, the bag man was a manager his name was Dave , when I asked him why is this market so empty, he snapped back that it is Monday afternoon, and we were busy with shoppers over the weekend. Also with Covet 19 on the rise, why would this store close off one of the exits? Try like everyother store to have a entrance and a exit so we all could stay away from each other !! Went to the deli to order sandwiches and talk about terrible customer service. Lady yelled at me because I asked for French bread and she said there was none. Then I proceeded to ask for chicken tenders and then yelled at me again saying they weren't out until 11. I had no idea that they didn't come out until 11. Instead of politely saying they weren't ready yet she proceeded to yell at me saying how I would have to wait. I have been coming here since it was Hannaford's. I was a bit skeptical when it switched over, but I love it here! Big Y always has the freshest produce, meat, and seafood. I never have an issue finding anything or the store being out of something. Even when I was on the Whole 30 diet, I didn't have a problem finding anything, which is saying something! I am spoiled by this store and I will not food shop anywhere else but Big Y!! read more

Big "whYYY" did I go here is more accurate. The prices are definitely higher and the quality much lower than its (very missed) predecessor Hannaford's. I have had many issues with their produce section and finding the items I need are far too ripe or rotten and prices that are much higher than competitors. The seafood selection is pitiful and the deli meat is so inferior to not only Hannafords, but to their local competitors as well. The fact they you have to "register" with the store in order to receive discounts and sales prices and carry around those silly gold coins is further reason why I have completely given upon this store. While the employees are friendly and helpful (thus the 2 stars), they don't have much quality to work with and likely experienced a better work environment before this "family" business took over. read more

Michael from the bakery saved my bum for my daughter's 7th birthday party! I had ordered a custom cake from Stop & Shop but bc of their strike, I chose not to pick it up. I went to Big Y and Michael made a custom batch of 48 cupcakes in under 15 minutes! Everyone at the party remarked how delicious they were. They looked like they had been crafted in a high-end boutique bakery! So glad I made the extra trek out to Norwell. I think it's pretty ridiculous to make customers have a store card just to get sale prices. I thought stores were doing away with this. There are no benefits other than getting the store sale prices it's not like at Stop & Shop when you get gas discounts. Today was my first time and last time ever shopping at the store. The woman ringing was a large woman with short gray hair. She just stood there and stared at me like I should know that I'm supposed to bring my own bags or pay a measly $.10 for each. Like big deal just give me the paper bags I don't care, I didn't know that I needed them since I have never here before. Then in the nastiest tone she states that I need to sign up for a card to get the sale prices, of course my reply was "can you type a store card", like every single other store that makes you get a card (just to get your information so they can sell it), let's you do. Customer Service: above and beyond! I had a medical issue at Big Y in Norwell, as my husband and I were at the register checking out. I had recent knee surgery, and all of a sudden I had a muscle spasm that left me in excruciating pain and unable to walk. Mario, the manager, took care of us: helped get me to a seat, got us ice, helped my husband contact the doctor, etc... It was a show of compassion and helpfulness that was quite unexpected but greatly appreciated. When Big Y says they are a part of the community, they put actions behind those words. read more

Since my initial review of Big Y, I've stopped shopping at this store, despite their 10% senior discount on Tuesdays. The most important disqualifiers for me are their abysmal deli and meat departments. I don't care what kind of deals you have on other items, if you cannot stock at least one premium brand of deli meats and cheeses such as Boar's Head, Thumann's or Dietz and Watson, then there's something seriously wrong with your buying philosophy. And if your 'meat program' thinks that London broil round steak is a suitable alternative to shoulder steak, then you've got your meat-head up your butt. Maybe if you stocked Bell & Evans chicken or New Zealand/Australian lamb, I'd reconsider a visit now and then, but living in a vortex where Trader Joe's, Whole Foods, Good Health, Stop & Shop and Roche Brothers are within easy driving distance, Big Y is a Big Why Bother for me. read more

Disclaimer: I have not actually food shopped here, I got balloons! I needed to pick up balloons at 8am for a bridal shower and no one in the area would be ready at that time. Come back Hannafords! The first 3 times I went to the store there was no one available to register me for a silver card ( One of my favorite things about Hannafords was you didnt need a loyalty card!) They store the motorized carts in the bottle return area, so it's next to impossible to get to the machine. There's also no trash can in the recycling area. There are too many displays sitting in the middle of aisles, making it impossible for two carts to pass each other in busy aisles like frozen food/eggs and butter. There was one express lane open (where you can't redeem recycling coupons) and one other lane with several people in front of me, although there were plenty of employees strolling through the store. The employees are friendly, but very few if any are veterans of Hannafords. I've purchased bananas and name brands I'm familiar with. I have shopped at the big Y in Lenox before; it was a good experience. I'm sorry the travel East hasn't fared as well. Fortunately, there is no lack of grocery stores in the greater Norwell area! read more

Their foods expiration dates go bad soo quickly, if not already expired. Look before you purchase!! So over priced! Their produce is NEVER ON SALE, especially their berries. Big Y is a big disappointment. Very little organic or gourmet choices in meats & no Boars Head in the deli. Bakery is low quality and no gluten free options. Fruits only had organic in bulk. A good store would thrive in this location, unfortunately, Big Y needs to up their standards. read more

When they announced that Hannaford would become Big Y - I had thought it may be a change for the better - I should have been more grateful - Big Y is a big disappointment. The staff is great - most of the staff are former Hannaford employees but they seem to be short staffed every time I go there. The prices are higher and the service level is lower - I believe it's family owned - I wish the DeMoulas family owned it! They recently stopped their Tuesday Senior Citizen discount and now rotate "specials" for senior citizens on Tuesdays. If senior citizens want an automatic discount they should shop at Market Basket - you effectively get a discount every day due to their lower prices. read more

Big Y is Big Y NOT! Terrible customer service, sneaky savings practices. First, you have to sign up for their reward's card; they wanted to copy my driver's license- completely unneccesary & invasive. Second, BEWARE: READ CAREFULLY, you may need the "gold coin" for discount. Long story short, didn't see "gold coin discount", explained have "gold coin" at home, my second time shopping here, could I get the discount & apply my "gold coin". Rudely was told, "No!", no smile or friendly explanation, just a rude NO. I returned said item, & that is my last time at Big Y NOT.
