He went out of his way to get me home from the ER at Dartmouth when it was close to midnight. He took me in as an extra trip, after hours, and saved me from sitting in an uncomfortable chair in the ER reception area & loaded with people. I called up Bob to make a reservation and he told me I had to call back the following day. Then, having made the reservation, I had to wait more than 20 minutes for him to arrive (without apology). Since he was taking me to the Lebanon Airport, I could easily have missed my flight. But he drove slowly, by back roads, and declined to help me with my bags. His rates were very reasonable, but it was not a happy or reassuring experience. read more

This was one of the worse taxi rides I have ever had. The PT cruiser driver was watching a moving on her phone while she drove and I was ready to grab the wheel a couple of times as she wandered across the lanes. Had I any other option, I would have gotten out right away. I'm tempted to contact the agency that regulates cab drivers and report this terribly unsafe behavior. read more

I use Big yellow Taxi often to get back and forth to work when I'm in Lebanon. My rating of 5 stars is almost 100% due to my guy Joe, who is one of the drivers for BYT. Joe is always friendly, courteous, and respectful. He goes out of his way to try and accommodate my requests, even making last minute changes to make sure I get to work on time. Joe is always early or right on time for my pickup, and if he misses a call from me cause he's driving, he always calls me back. Joe is a valuable part of the BYT team and a shining example of what customer service should be. Thx Joe!! read more

Terrible!! Just a couple of years ago I would have given five stars for service: promptness and friendliness. However, recently the bad far outweighs the good. I have tried to get a taxi three times in the last month alone, and only managed to get a ride once out of three attempts. The first time, I tried to schedule pick up and return to and from DHMC for a medical procedure. I was told by a very cranky man (I believe it was Bobby, the current/new owner) there was nothing available.... For the entire day. I was flabbergasted! I ended up taking Advance Transit, holding an ice pack on my back through two different bus rides. I love AT, but would have much rather PAID to take a 15 minute cab ride than a one hour bus ride. The second time, I needed a ride to Dartmouth Coach. I was able to get a ride, but had to arrive over 90 minutes early because they were "busy" and that was the only time I could get a cab. At least I got it, right? The third, and hopefully final, time I requested a cab, I was again told there was nothing available. All day. Hours and hours in advance of my 5pm Hanover Dartmouth Coach pick up. Once again, AT was my (FREE!!) fall-back. Lest you wonder what out-of-the-way place I live in, I live in White River Junction. The very town in which Big Yellow Taxi is located. The farthest away I have ever needed a cab is Dartmouth Coach in Lebanon. Honestly, Advance Transit may be more cumbersome to navigate, but it's always there when I don't want to drive... And it's FREE. read more

Make sure you call ahead of time to book your trip! This is not like in big cities. They have limited numbers of cars and drivers, so make sure you check in with them before needing a ride! I was lucky enough to be able to be pick up not long after I called, but that was just lucky. The fares are fixed, as they do not use a meter. My driver was also the dispatcher, and kept on taxi calls from people needing taxi rides. He seemed tired/a little stressed with all the work, but did his best to accommodate me. read more

The worst customer service I've experienced in a very long time. The drivers and dispatchers make it clear that they feel they are doing you a favor and won't let you forget it. Don't like it? Tough. They own a large market share and do not give much importance to individual customers. The drivers are slow to pick up, if they arrive at all. All the drivers except for one were surly and rude. If the drivers are rude, the dispatcher is exceptionally so, and prone to argument. When I asked to modify a booking, several hours in advance mind you, so that I could stop and pick something up before a meeting, he threw a fit. I told him that if making the accommodation was such a burden, he could at least take me to my mid-point and let me worry about my transportation from there. His response was to tell me he was sick of changing his schedule, that he had canceled my booking altogether and proceeded to hang up on me. As a result, I spent an extra hour and a half or so attempting to get to my meeting on time. Unfortunately this is one of the largest taxi companies in the area, but there are other better and cheaper options. I have tried Twin State and my experience with them was excellent--they are faster, cheaper, and happy to be of service. I highly recommend them. Extremely unprofessional, entitled jerks. You can expect to call and be told that you have to wait a couple of hours, and probably get snapped at by the dispatcher for having the audacity to want a cab. When the taxi does come to pick you up, expect one of these scenarios (based on true stories): (1) Cab shows up 30 minutes late. Surly driver refuses to help load luggage. Charges $30 for a ride that was at most 4 miles (because there's no concept of a meter, duh). (2) Cab shows up 5 minutes early, but they don't call to let you know, and you can't see it because you're trying to keep warm inside your apartment. You finally call them, and the driver picks up and yells at you for making him wait. You get in, and he goes into a tirade of how mad he is that he had to come all the way from White River to Hanover to pick you up for a 3 mile trip (because he's evidently under the impression that he's doing it as a favor, not as, you know, part of his freaking job). Rails at you and his previous passengers of the day for not carrying change. I haven't tried the other, smaller companies that are mentioned in the other review as yet, but I can't imagine anything being worse than this. Avoid if possible. read more

THE BAD Experience 1 :When I first moved to this area, I used this service quite often and hated it initially. My first chauffer was a racist, Islamophobic, xenophobic man whose first question to me and my mother of 58 years was "Where are you guys really from?" and on learning (confirming) that we were not Muslims he delivered a speech (the entire ride) on why he hates Islam and all Muslim people. Luckily he moved to Texas and we just had him drive us one time after that. My family and I were very offended and actually considered reporting him to the owner, but turns out he would answer the phone very single time. Experience 2 : This was with another chauffer who charged us 25 bucks for a 12 dollar ride. We reported him to the dispatch manager that particular day Joe, who refunded us the money and also gave us a free ride back. Another random bad experience : They really have a racist problem. It was one of the female chauffers, who came outside our house earlier than requested- did not honk or call and left. When I called her at the intended time, she told me how she had other people to pick up. When she finally came to get us- she says "IN THIS COUNTRY, YOU GOTTA BE WAITING OUTSIDE ATLEAST 10 MINUTES PRIOR TO PICKUP, BECAUSE YOU NEVER KNOW WHEN THE DRIVER WILL ARRIVE". Whatever that means. Also she said that in a LOUD, SLOW manner- people of color/immigrants who are discriminated against would probably understand where I'm coming from. It was really surprising as her tone over the phone was quite fine. I was really tempted to be passive aggressive and answer her back in the same tone "BUT YOUU COUUULDD HAVVVEE JUST CALLED OR HONKED" but I refrained from doing so. We just ignored her and kept to ourselves. THE NOT SO BAD 1.They have good guys too. Joe is a relatively well mannered guy who is usually in a good mood all the time. There is another young chauffeur (I can't recall his name, but he's the youngest of them all), who is very courteous and professional. That is when it truly feels like a cab service. So if you can ask for them, It would be great. If they had more people like these two, this would definitely be a 4-5 star review. Bottom line : They have a sort of monopoly in the area and if you need a cab, this is pretty much the service you'd have to use. Please don't expect them to be professional, unless of course you get those two particular people driving you that day. Other important points to keep in mind 1. Book fairly in advance- I'd say more than half a day. If you call last minute chances are that you won't get one. 2. The cars are usually unclean, please don't expect a cab experience. 3. It's quite pricy. They don't have a meter system, but have flat rates, and it usually ranges between 11-16 dollars for a local ride. 4. Like I said they are the only reliable cab service in the area. They will take you to your destination, but don't expect it to be a pleasant experience every single time. On the brighter side, I've come to respect and admire all the cab/uber workers in the city even more. They're professional more often than not. read more

There is a good reason uber has been putting taxi services out of business and in this case rightly so. Dispatch is patchy, drivers are late, and often no cars are available at all. If you need a ride at odd hours you are scoffed at, seriously. There is no customer service only abrasive rude employees with chips on their shoulders. I just witnessed the driver of this cab refuse to help the disabled man he had just dropped off at the bus station. The disabled man, who had just been released from the hospital, had asked the driver to help him bring the bag to a bench inside the bus station (about 20 feet away), but the cab driver just drove away. Seeing the bad reviews of all the local taxi companies led me to to call a limo service, but they didn't offer on-call service so I asked which of the taxi companies to use. She said definitely to use Big Yellow. So I called them but got an answering machine so I left my message and they called back not 5 minutes later. The lady on the phone was pleasant and said I could be picked up at 245. At 230 I was leaving to go to the pickup location next door when I got a call from the dispatcher saying the driver had already looked for me next door, didn't find me, and left. She said she'd tell him to go back and wait when I said I'd go over immediately. When I got in the taxi the driver said the dispatcher told him 215, not 245 and was unpleasant for a while, making it seem like it was my fault. After calling the dispatcher to get an explanation it still took him a while to cool off after realizing it was just a miscommunication. The cab was clean and he was a good driver and talkative but at $50 for a 21 mile trip, it was pricey. If your have no other choice, it'll do, but be aware of what to expect. read more

We just had a very positive experience with Bobby and the Big Yellow Taxi. Called this morning at 0730 to schedule a 1 PM pickup at Dartmouth Coach in Lebanon, NH. He runs a service based on reservations. He said he would probably be there at 1245 and that is exactly what happened. Just got a ride from the train station to B&B. Called from the train about 1/2 hour out, and again just before we arrived, and taxi was waiting when we got there. Asked about the fare before we got in, so no surprises. No, there's no meter, but there is a chart. Our driver was willing to stop at an ATM (so we could tip him). We were friendly and so was the driver. All these bad reviews had us worried, but no issues at all. read more

Several months ago I nearly collided with a BYT when it ran the stop sign on Turnpike Road in Norwich., VT. On Tuesday 9/8/15, another BYT (maroon van, VT license FXF 698) made an illegal right turn from River Road onto Vermont Route 10A where "No Right Turn on Red" is clearly posted. I then noticed that one of the van brake lights was out. Finally, it ran a red light at the intersection of US Route 5 and VT 10A. If this is how the cabs are maintained and driven, I hae no desire to do business with BYT. read more
