This is a bittersweet review for us to write. As you can see, we posted our first glorious review in 2017 when Bigdash first opened and could not have loved this place more. It was SO special. We haven't been back in many years and not only did that magical original location close, but what we found instead was this monstrosity of a location that felt hyper corporatized and commercial--in other words, soulless. Listen, we don't begrudge them their success. And we were so happy for them when we saw them being mentioned in the NYT a few years ago. But now Bigdash has gone full American--they've expanded to multiple locations, the quality has gone down, and that je-ne-sais-quoi magic is completely gone. We came here yesterday after a stellar meal at Khashoka, excited since it's been so long since our last visit. We walked in (it was freezing) and the whole place looked like a Disney-ified version of the original Big Dash. There was one woman working, and she was very friendly, but what a different experience than mingling with the original owners in the unpretentious cozy ambience. The worst part is that the ice cream is nowhere near as good! The original Arabic ice cream's level of rose water was off and the ice cream's stretchiness felt less organically created. The pistachio was OK. Our daughter got this crazy container of small individual frozen fruit shapes that were covered in chocolate. Those felt cute and special and we liked them all except for the grape. Again, we're happy for Bigdash's success. They deserve it. But we will not be back again because what we loved so much about this place is no longer. Tis the American way, alas! Three stars and sincere best wishes to them. read more

I recently visited Big Dash and I'm still thinking about the desserts! The hazelnut baklava tasted just like a Ferrero Rocher -- rich, nutty, chocolatey, and perfectly sweet. Absolutely delicious. The butter cookie roll was soft, buttery, and indulgent without being overwhelming. But the real star was the kinafa. The cheese pull was INSANE , perfectly crispy on the outside, warm and gooey on the inside, and balanced with just the right amount of sweetness. Easily the best thing I tried. While I was visiting my friend in Dallas, she mentioned this place, so we decided to check it out. It's a nice a spacious cafe but it was busy. Luckily we managed to find parking and seating inside so we decided to get the kunefe to share because it looked so good. You can watch them make it fresh, and the smell was so buttery and delicious that we had to get it. We decided to get the classic one but there are plenty of other Kunefe options available to get. It was perfection. I liked that they have the extra pistachios and sugar syrup on the side because we had control over how sweet we wanted it to be. Came in on a Saturday night a little bit after dark and within 5 minutes of entering we had our desserts! You get to select entire cakes or individual pieces of dessert. Some are ready to go and others you have to wait for (like the crepes). The ice cream is so yummy and stretchy and the cake slices we had were not very sweet. A friend recommended this place to us many different pastries, and food items from at least and I wanted to try some of the KanafaFah when you enter, you find very different variety of ice cream flour that you don't find in the usual ice cream shops and you'll find plenty of desserts in Phil wraps. This is an authentic Middle Eastern Cafe. I recommend everyone to visit this place. Bigdash - A Dallas Favorite I'll Truly Miss! Bigdash has been one of my absolute favorite spots during my time in Dallas. I've visited their Richardson location many times, and every single time I try something new, I walk away impressed and satisfied. From their variety of ice creams to the different types of cakes and traditional Arabic desserts, everything I've tried has been consistently delicious. The quality, flavor, and attention to detail in their desserts really stand out, it's clear they put a lot of care into what they serve. One of the highlights of my experience has also been the amazing service. There's a young woman who works there, originally from Morocco, and although I don't know her name, I want to give her a special shoutout--she's always friendly, helpful, and makes every visit even better! Sadly, I'v moved to Kansas now, and one of my biggest wishes is for Bigdash to open a location in KC. I know I'm really going to miss everything I've enjoyed here. I didn't take pictures of everything I've tried (I was too busy enjoying it ), but I'll leave a few photos below of some of the desserts I did manage to capture. The desserts here are to die for. And I'm pretty bummed it took me so long to finally try this place. The interior is pretty big with lots of tables and there is a large selection of different items: baklavas, pastries, knafeh, ice creams, and more. Service is also friendly and quick! My favorites here are the dubai chocolate, red knafeh, and the cookie butter roll. The dubai chocolate bar is soo milky and decadent and has a perfect crunch from the pistachio cream kataifi. The red knafeh is perfect for cheese lovers since it comes with a layer of sweet cheese under the toasted kataifi, and is made fresh to order. The cookie butter roll is my favorite one of the rolls I've tried but all the other rolls are awesome as well, with a crispy exterior and creamy interior. I found this gem on an Instagram reel that an influencer posted. I was definitely influenced because the desserts looked so yummy! I went in on a week day and it wasn't super crowded which was perfect . I was greeted promptly as I walked in. It's a cute casual type of vibe and very clean. I knew I wanted the knafeh. I ordered a red knafeh with ice cream. The whole presentation of how this dessert is made is so regal. I've never tasted anything like this . With that being said, even as a person who likes sweets , this is very rich and I could only eat a few bites. After an hour, I saw other customers with this so I got back in line and reordered even after being told by another worker that there wouldn't be enough left for me (only 3 cups worth). The strawberries helped balance all the chocolate and pistachio flavors. I waited 20 minutes for this, and I don't think i would again. It's definitely good and something I would eat if I was nearby! It's always a pleasure stopping by this place. This is their new location, at least to me, as I used to frequent them when they were in the other Richardson location. This location is much more spacious than the one before, and they have more seatings. You still order at the counter, and they'll give a number to take to the table (you pick your own table). They have a sweet discount on knafeh on Mondays, though I learned later that the dessert itself doesn't keep the best/is not the same if you don't eat it immediately. Still good though. I absolutely loved the kullaj that I tried and would go back just for that. It's located in a plaza with many other Middle Eastern food spots and has a pretty open dining space - a bit empty during the middle of the afternoon but considerably more full in the evenings.
