They were very helpful when we were in a bind. We had traveled to a lake with all our own paddle boards and kayaks but forgot a couple of paddles. These guys ran some over to where we were and since it took them a bit longer didn't charge us. They also ran back by and picked them up since they were in the area. This rental place had the best summer prices that we were able to find in the Big Fork area. The people running the shop were relaxed and easy to deal with. We got a six person speed boat that was in relatively good shape and was able to do everything we wanted, including tubing on the lake! It was a beautiful day and we had an absolute blast. Plus, the process was made easy because once we paid for everything, all we had to do was follow a truck down to the launch ramp and hop into the boat! The person from the shop took care of all the other details, like launching the boat. After we finished, all we had to do was drive back to the launch ramp and move the boat onto the trailer. Simple. Then we followed the trailer back to the gas station. Here is the only (expensive) warning! This place ran 91 octane on the boat we rented, and it took nearly $125 in gas to fill back up!!! So it was an additional major unpleasant hit to the price of the rental. Despite that sticker shock we still had a really great time and this rental company helped make it a more streamlined experience. Next time we need to rent a boat on Flathead Lake this is where we will go. read more

My boyfriend and I decided to go with Bigfork Outdoor Rentals for day use of a Jet Ski because they had the cheapest prices.....and now we know why. Our Jet ski was old as dirt. I work for a motor sports company so I have knowledge on these units, don't get me wrong, the thing worked but it was so old and unstable that we could barely make turns without it flipping. When someone is paying over 200 dollars for a unit, IT SHOULD BE DISCLOSED HOW OLD THE UNIT IS! I felt it was a form of false advertisement. When we first saw it (as we were following the guy to the launch spot) I just looked at my boyfriend and said, "wow, its a piece of crap" The other disappointment was the launch spot he took us to. I specifically told the woman on the phone when I booked that I wanted to be launched at the Flathead lake launch in Somers and she said no problem. The guy drops us off at the boat launch in Bigfork under the Bigfork bridge which is on the river. I told him what me and the lady previously discussed and he just looked at me like I was stupid and said that the lake was 3 miles down the river and put us in at that spot regardless of my request. it's a fine launch spot for a boat and for people who know the area very well. its not a cool spot for jet skiers who have no idea how to get to a certain spot that was requested and ok'd at the time of booking. Just flat out bad customer service. Lastly, at the time of booking the woman I spoke to said the hours of our rental would be from 11am - 7pm. She said we need to arrive at 10am to sign paperwork and give enough time to go over the ski and enough drive time to our SOMERS launch spot........ We got back to the pickup launch at 6pm and wanted to just play around for the last hour near the spot so we weren't late. To our surprise, the delivery guy was there waiting and said he had been there waiting since 5:30 which was what time his boss told him we were supposed to be done. We told him that 7pm was our pickup time, so he calls his boss and his boss tells him no, take it now. So, not only did we have a very old unstable unit but they also cheated us out of an hour of time. We were both very disappointed with our experience and felt cheated out of 225 dollars :( read more

First trip to Bigfork and called around to rent a boat. Dale was outstanding best prices around. He brought us the boat to the marina set us all up and off we went. The weather was terrible and after talking to Dale he said don't worry about time just let me know when you get back have fun. I would highly recommend this place. read more

Horrible people, horrible service. Cheated and lied. We were at the lake for a few weeks and thought it would be fun to rent a couple jet skis. They quoted us an expensive price to deliver and then retrieve the jet skis at the end of the day. Plus they made it clear that we would pay an exorbitant price to refuel. Well, we were on vacation, and figured ok, we'll splurge and do it for just one day. We used the equipment and had a nice day on the lake. At the end of the day, their driver came to retrieve the jet skis and we helped load them on to their carrier. We took pictures of the jet skis before we turned them over, showing that they were in the same good condition they were in when we got them. Then the next day I got a phone call from a screaming Dale, cussing me out over ruining his equipment. We were floored. We didn't know what he was talking about. We wanted to be good customers and offered to stop by the shop to see what he was talking about. He agreed to meet us at a specific time the next day. When we showed up, he wasn't there as he had promised. His wife told us we could go look at the equipment, and indeed we saw a gash in the side of one of the jet skis. This seemed to have been caused by a rough ride on the road back to their shop from our house at the lake, as the carrier was damaged in a matching place, with a chunk of its nearby plastic broken off. We told them we clearly didn't cause this damage and showed his wife pictures of the equipment as we had used and returned it to their helper, but she said there was nothing she could do, as the helper and Dale had taken off for something else. We said we'd be glad to talk but couldn't pay for damage we didn't cause. Dale then called again the next day, screaming that we were ruining Montana and making it impossible for people like him to run a business and make it through the short summer season. He threatened to sue us. I explained that we had lived up to our commitment, showed up at his shop at the agreed upon time, and showed pictures to prove the condition of the equipment when we turned it over to his helper. He screamed even more and said there was no way his helper could have damaged the equipment in transit (which of course, there was no way for him to know, since he wasn't there, he was just taking his helper's word for it). I asked him what it would take to end this matter amicably. He told me if he could charge my credit card another $400 (on top of the rental fee and the exorbitant refueling charge) he wouldn't sue us and he would drop the matter. Given that this was less than the cost of hiring a lawyer and proving him wrong and a fool in court, we paid the ransom and resolved never to return, and to write a review so others would know how horribly we were treated. He took advantage of the fact that we were on vacation from far away and wouldn't want to pursue this in a local court. His yelling and screaming were outrageous behavior, completely unprofessional and no way to resolve a matter with a customer. Dale is a horrible person who cheated us. He, his wife, and their helper ruined our visit. Do not rent from them! read more

When I got to flathead and inflated my SUP it had a huge hole! I called around and found Dale, the owner. He was super helpful and offered to fix it for me! We stopped by on our way to a hike and he had it ready to go so fast!! Nicest family and great gear for rent! Highly recommend!! read more

We had a great experience with BigFork Outdoor Rentals! We didn't check around on prices at all, but we thought the charge for our pontoon rental was very fair. As far as we know, we did not have to pay for fuel on top of our rental fee. The pontoon was newer and in excellent condition. We were very glad to find out that they would transport and launch the boat for us, we just had to meet them down there! We had beautiful weather on the lake and even found a nice sandy, shallow area to swim just east of where the Flathead river enters the lake. Returning the boat was easy, we just called to have them come down and pick it up. Our only setback is that we did ask if there an anchor on board (so that we could all jump off and swim) and there wasn't. Otherwise, it was an awesome experience! It was well worth our money and was our favorite day on the lake! read more

We contacted Bigfork Outdoor Rentals one evening inquiring about a wake surfing boat and asked if it would be available the next day between 9-5pm. We got a reply at 10pm in the evening saying "yes it is available, give us a call in the morning." We did not call right away. I made a call around 8:45am only to learn that the guy was already on his way to Swan Lake for us. We had not even finalized an order, and I did want to be certain it was a wake surfing boat before actually confirming the reservation. I had planned on possibly switching the time to 10-6pm given how late we got up, but we couldn't do that since they made us a reservation without even hearing back from us. Lucky that we actually called or the guy would have been waiting and we would have been oblivious. I confirmed with 3 people that the boat we had was a wake surfing boat. So I decided not to make a big deal about the reservation confusion. But to add to that confusion the guy did not show up until 9:15. This made us think they thought they had reserved with us but it was actually a different family in swan lake (since we never did truly finalize the reservation). Once we had time with the boat, we learned the boat is not a wake surfing boat. 2 good wake surfers were both unable to use the wake on this boat to surf. It was such a disappointment. It's definitely a ski/wakeboarding boat, but not a wake surfing boat. While you can fill it to create a larger wake, that larger wake is not even to truly wake surf. The guy said he would bring us a piece to divert water and create a larger wake, but he did not. I tried to get the company to honor their regular ski boat rate and they would not. I ended up paying $663.00 for a boat that didn't do what we really wanted it to. He said "nobody had ever complained you cannot wakeboard on it." I said "we don't want to wakeboard. We are wakesurfing. I have that in writing in an email." His answer was this is the best boat in his fleet. That really does not matter to me though. We didn't know his fleet, we could only trust his word that we can wakesurf on this boat. Our wake surfers had to hold on to a rope and be pulled on the board, but they never were able to truly surf and let go of the rope since the boat did not produce much of a wake. Another issue is one of the gauges on the fill tanks don't work. We weren't able to see whether water was actually filling to create the wake effect. I believe one side was functional, but water did not seem to fill on the other. The company offered me free gas rather than charging me for a regular boat, which is what we really got. They were nice and pleasant to deal with, but they just wouldn't budge on that, and there is definitely some miscommunication there as to what they advertise about what this boat will do. Please note, they also charge extra for delivery as well as filling gas and you aren't charged the actual rate for gas. Their price per gallon for filling is about $1 more than what is at the pump. It can get very expensive. read more

What a nightmare experience! We went with Bigfork Outdoor Rentals because of its competitive RV rental rate. We'd reserved an RV months in advance for the 4th of July weekend. Even though the owner reassured us it'd be fully charged, its battery was dead when we got it. Luckily, we picked up the night before our trip, so we had time to plug it in. Over the next few days, the battery and gas quickly drained, despite minimal use. By morning of day 3, its alarm blared, and we had a completely dead RV. We spent an entire day exchanging calls with the owner and tinkering with the RV to try to solve the mystery - a leak somewhere in the propane line. It took all day in part because the owner was sure it was our fault, and also because he'd say he would call back and then would not. In fact, he didn't seem to know anything at all about how RVs operate. When he finally accepted that it was dysfunctional, the best he could do was meet us half-way with a replacement RV, but the only one he had left had beds for three rather than our party of five. We didn't any other options and so agreed. As for the bill we'd owe, the owner said we'd just work it out at the trip's end. After unpacking the first RV and a 2-hour round trip to exchange RVs (plus the expense of gas), we opened the replacement RV and found the toilet stench potent. We had to let it air out before hauling our stuff back in. Two days later, we returned the RV and were told we'd only be reimbursed the cost of 1 day, even though the first RV wasn't functional for several days, and we lost almost two full days to the hassle of determining what was wrong with the first one, convincing him it wasn't our fault, and then swapping it for another. Plus there was the expense and time of meeting him to swap. Moral of the story: Do NOT try to save by using this company. read more

BEWARE!!!! If you want to waste your hard-earned vacation money, this is the place. Too many things wrong with the equipment, service and overall experience to even list. After voicing our concerns through phone calls throughout the day to Bigfork Outdoor Rentals, we ended up dealing with Dale, the owner, who has absolutely no customer services skills and is angry and defensive about his own outdated and poorly running equipment. When it was clear he only cared about the money he was collecting and was not going to do anything to make the situation right, we told him we had no choice but to give him a poor review on Yelp. Now I notice that within the week he has had some glowing reviews, all coincidentally calling him by name and praising him! Ha ha........... read more

Reserved a boat months in advance.... boat was thirty minutes late when I went to pick it up. Dealt with two teenage boys with little to no knowledge of the boat at the pick up. Turned the bilge pump on only to discover the boat hull was full of mucky gas water. I question the teenage boys as to the safety and operation of the boat with a gas leak. They called the owner who assured us that was normal for that boat and everything was fine. The boat hull continued to fill up with water and gasoline all day. We pumped the hull out 4 or 5 times in 6 hours. All we could smell for the majority of the day was gas. At one point the gas water in the hull became so deep that it began filling the storage containers in the deck. We had put our very expensive water sking life jackets in the storage compartments and they became saturated with gasoline. Because all we could smell was gas on the boat I unknowing put a life jacket on that had gasoline on it. It burned my skin fairly badly. The owner didn't seem to care about our lousey experience and told me he wasn't going to try and compensate us because he knew it wouldn't matter if he did anyway he had deemed us nonreturning customers. He offered to swap our gasoline saturated life jackets out with old beat down life jackets from his business supply. What a joke.... save yourself some hassle and rent with someone else! Oh and to top it off we had to pay to refill the gas tank complete that had been leaking all day to the tune of $176 read more

My family spent several hundred dollars recently renting jet skis and a boat from bigfork outdoor rentals. At first, our experience was great and the price was the lowest around. However, the people we dealt with were passive aggressive and barely gave us any instructions or guidelines on running the equipment. Prior to renting, we were not told that we would need a trailer hitch and to be able to launch the jet skis ourselves. When we returned to equipment, the man was rude and refused to load up the boat from the dock that we were at, instead he made us drive the boat to another loading dock for no apparent reason. When we rented the jet skis, a rope was accidentally sucked up underneath one of them. We were next to one of the rental kiosks on the shore. Instead of offering to help us, the employees took pictures of us trying to get us into trouble. If it were my equipment, I would be right there offering help to my customers, (btw, we got the rope un-stuck without ANY help from the rental company). I have never encountered such terrible customer service. The low prices were not worth the customer service, or lack thereof, and the quality of equipment.
