We stop by this place every time we have a mini vacation in Ellijay. We call in our order when we are 10 minutes away and pick it up in the drive through. So easy! Wanted some BBQ and saw this on our way up to Pearsons - decided to stop for lunch on our way back to Atlanta. The three of us shared 2 littluns combo plates - the picture is what we had left over! (Oh, and one extra side!) Ribs and pulled pork with fried okra and Brunswick stew, brisket and sausage with onion rings and baked beans, extra side of collard greens. Plenty to go home with us! The place was packed on Saturday at 7:30 with a line literally out the door. The place is big without door seating too so they can accommodate a lot of people. Also their service was efficient and quick. We ordered barbecue sandwich and ribs, both were good quality and quantity but neither were overly impressive or particularly memorable. For example there was nothing charred or any bark for personality, other than a slightly smoky flavor. Same with the sides. Maybe they're playing it safe to appeal to such a wide audience and is why so many people are there but I look for a little more culture I'm my que, such as bubba cue's brisket. read more

My favorite local barbecue restaurant! I always get the brisket here and this time decided to try something different. Had the country fried steak and I wasn't disappointed. Seemed like my food covered half of the table! Still probably prefer the brisket, but I'm thinking about continuing to try more of the menu. This place is always busy so you know they are doing something right. I've had several different items, but one of my favorites is their chicken salad sandwiches. I've had a special place in my heart for Bigguns for quite some time and it felt like we've reconnected on my last visit. It's been several years since I've paid a visit to my bbq heaven and it was as good as I remember! I had the quarter rib plate with okra and slaw and hubs had their pulled pork plate w/ greens and lima beans. The ribs were so delicious and just fell off the bone. Their rub is flavorful and compliments the meat and smokiness in a perfect little dance. The okra was country fried goodness but the slaw was a little sweet for my taste but that's just my preference. My husband loved the pork and he has a pretty discerning palate. The sauces are some of the best in my opinion and are fun to mix and match. The folks that keep this place running are so sweet and attentive. I am a brisket snob with high standards. Biguns exceeded my tough standards. I had the large brisket sandwich. The meat had fat, char, moisture and smokiness. Perfect- no sauce needed!. Get the large sandwich as I did. I had it with tater salad. I will be back. Unfortunately, it will be awhile because it is about 2 hour from my house. Prices were the best part of this meal. Went with mom and dad. We all got the brisket plate with 2 sides each. Every side was too sweet for me but the Brunswick Stew was better. Took me a couple of trips to love Bigun's; in my opinion, the pork, which is usually my BBQ go-to, is not where they shine. The turkey breast is worth a special trip - seriously good stuff. They have also made a considerable investment to make themselves Covid easy with online ordering and a nice drive thru set up. I commute one day a week, and Bigun's has become my preferred Monday dinner pick up. Order on-line in advance, easy jump off the highway, swing through the drive thru to pick up, and back on my way home. read more

Driving in this place seemed like the place to grab some BBQ. We were greeted with a friendly cashier who helped us decide what to order. I ordered the bigun's combo which has the choice of 3 meats and 2 sides. I got ribs, brisket, and turkey with fried okra and collard greens. However when we received our food they messed up my order and I received chicken instead of turkey. I told them and their response was oh there two more orders after yours and didn't seem to want to change the item. I decided to just accept the chicken because I did not want to wait and honestly it was very dry. The brisket and ribs were delicious. I really enjoyed their hot bbq sauce and their mustard sauce. I love the fried Okra, my boyfriend ordered the baked beans and the tater salad which were both very good. The collard greens were just okay. read more

My wife and I had the Brisket plate. The meat.was so tender you could cut it with a fork. The meal was vey enjoyable as was the experience of going to a restaurant for the first time. Good, but not great. I do quite a bit of charity work, and when the folks hosting the charity event offered barbecue, I was skeptical. From my experience, when someone offers BBQ for a larger event, it is usually a sad version of what meat is meant to be. The fact that the drive-thru was entirely around the building was a sign that this place is to be taken seriously. With the virus protocols, I could tell that the seating was cordoned off, but that didn't affect us on this visit, because we were picking up our large order to get back to the aforementioned charity event. The virus did affect our wait in the drive-thru though, because clearly everyone from the area was waiting in line to get their smoked meats and sides. The wait wasn't long, but it wasn't short either (and we had called ahead, placing our order 45 minutes prior). Vast quantities of food in our possession, we headed back to the event. The meats were good, but not great, and not just average either. The sides were also above average, but nothing I'd stray too far from my norm to get as well. It was a nice meal, with quite the wait, but fat kids get hungry and eat just about anything (except for Sonny's). Our charity hosts ordered one of every meat they offered that day, and one of every side-item, so we ran the gamut. All-in-all, above average, and a good meal. We got to help folks in need during the pandemic AND eat barbecue, so things can't be all that bad for us. Right? I think the issue for us is that the wait, along with the ride back may have taken the edge off what was probably a much better experience when had AT the restaurant itself. read more

Great BBQ in a gas station! Food is yummy. Great BBQ. Great service. And hey, your can fill up your tank and you car at the same place! One stop shop! Pork is good. The true gems here is the Brisket quesadilla and the brisket cheese steak sandwich. Both are amazing! And a great something different at a BBQ joint. My favorite side is the broccoli slaw. I came here from California. The staff is really nice and the food is great. Also buy a tshirt and some of their bbq sauce when you visit.

We must begin by saying that we've been eating here for years. The food is always very enjoyable and the ribs have always been truly amazing. Service is just adequate. So we give them two stars for great food and functional service. Unfortunately, we must subtract three stars for horrible management. How is it possible to close at 3PM on a Sunday when the apple house season is in full swing? We have always visited this area every October to go to the apple houses and the vineyards, while closing our trip out with dinner at Bigun's, but not this year because, apparently, the manager/owner would rather lose the business of everyone returning to town, by shutting the doors before dinner time. It's an unthinkably bad business decision for a restaurant in a tourist district to close so early on a Sunday like this. As such, they don't deserve more than two stars or our business. We likely won't be back. read more

We hit this place on our way from Atlanta to Blue Ridge. Great stop for the family with something for everyone. Pulled pork sandwiches were excellent and came in 2 sizes (littluns and biguns) with 10 or more sides to choose from including creamy Mac n cheese. Brisket was tender and chicken fingers crispy and juicy. Plenty of indoor and outdoor seating, efficient ordering at the counter and food came out quickly. This is absolutely amazing! I've always had great food everything is homemade always delicious. We drive 30+ miles to eat here passing several bbq places most specialize with something still mostly mediocre. Bigun's specializes in everything if you will... with a restive diet I have to stay away from fried foods. The fried foods are southern and really good. The BBQ is always the winner! Oh, my. We were in Ellijay, GA tubing down a river, and met a family also tubing. The father told us several times that we had to try Bigun's before we went home. Then, he told us again as we were walking back to our cars. So, since it was on the way back to our hotel, we decided to check it out. Good choice.... It's on a main road in the middle of nowhere. The parking lot was full, in the middle of a pandemic. Line to get in. Indoor and outdoor seating. We ordered a full slab of baby back ribs, figuring they're small. It came with 2 sides and we ordered the banana pudding (also at the urging of the guy from the tubing). Everything was awesome. Service was fast. We asked for water and it was waiting for us before we got to the pickup station. The ribs were huge for baby backs. We barely finished. The sauces were lovely. Our collard greens were fantastic - not too salty, which is frequently the case. We had a broccoli slaw, kind of a cole slaw with chunks of broccoli. Delicious. We would absolutely go back again. I'm usually not the biggest takeout bbq fan, but what Bigun's is doing is different. I got the small smoked sausage plate. For sides, I got the Brunswick stew and Dirty Fries. It was plenty of food. The smoked sausage was the best I have had in North Georgia 10/10. Brunswick stew was a 8/10, the cornbread complimented it very well. Best BBQ in the area. They understand gluten free and take it seriously. They do have gluten free sauces. I've eaten there many times because it's always consistent.
