I used to go to this shop as a kid with my dad when it Barbieri's, lots of good memories. But my last few visits have not been good. Surly staff, vastly overpriced bikes, and, if you need a repair, they are going to pull the old baloney of giving you a really high estimate, and then pull the old routine of trying to sell you a new bike. I'm done. There are a lot of great bike stores around town that don't pull this crap. I am done, you don't even get my sentimental side any more. One of the things I value in a business is telling me the truth and being accurate in your price promises both over the phone and in person. Bike Barn failed pretty miserably in this regard. Last Christmas I ended up having to go back to my bike shop in PA to find a bike mountain bike for my girlfriend. I know what I like, I know what rides well, and I know how things should be priced. I knew full well ordering a bike from out of town was going to involve having to get it built. I was at the time living in an apartment, my tools were all in storage, and I was busy as an old man who can still get an erection in the nursing home with work at the time. I got to calling around to get her Yeti built up, with most estimates coming back from shops being somewhere between $125 and $200. Me, being the value minded (cheap) mountain biker that I am, I wanted to keep calling around. I called Bike Barn. They said $50 for a "complete build." I asked, four separate times, if they meant from "bike in a box" to "fully rideable" for that price. They said, four times again, that this is what they would do for $50. I was overjoyed! More money for stocking stuffers from the bike fairy with the money I saved! Or so I thought.... Three days later, which would be a day and a half beyond when the bike was supposed to be ready, I got a call that shattered that plan. "We're gonna need $250 to do this for you." was what the store manager told me. Mind you, I had a signed and assured estimate ticket from them, so this was complete and total shake down bullshit. I went over, with no delay, grabbed the bike box, and was out the door. I don't like being lied to. I like it even less when people assume just because they have something of mine that I need done that they can take advantage of me. Bike Barn tried to do just that. It can be disappointing when loyalty is not valued. I have taken my road bike to Bike barn many times over the years and have ridden with the group ride in times past. If I need something bike related, I try my best to buy here first then local bike shops, lastly Amazon. I've purchased many a 'tune up' at this location with pretty solid results. Of course there's been a time or 2 that I road away thinking, "Did I really just pay for this?" as I see gunk and dirt that you expect to be wiped off as part of the extra cleaning fee. I went to the bike barn after purchasing a couple of E bikes that I wanted checked over and chatted with the mechanic. He was able to look me up and see how my history from my phone number. I mentioned to him that I've ridden the new bikes a good distance after assembling myself. I've met a couple other riders who chatted about their own experiences at their local Bike shops in Phoenix proper. When I mentioned I'd like a mechanic to check over the newly assembled bikes and I'd pay for a tune up charge, he told me they were raising the prices and I needed to act fast. I mentioned that I was wanting to bring 3 (newly assembled) E bikes in for a 'checkup and once over by a professional' and that another close by shop was charging nearly half the bike barn's price. The mechanic replied back, "we're raising our prices soon so better get them in while it's only $70.00". This left me disappointed as I feel there should be some wiggle room for long time customers of BB, or maybe even a volume discount for 3 bikes. At this point, I felt that I had to offer the competition a fair chance. After all, it's not that much further west. The job that was done far exceeded my expectations and was still half the price of Bike Barn. Now I have to ask myself how much money have I wasted here over the years. I really wanted to continue to be loyal to BB but why? Do your homework. It's really just a couple of phone calls and you'll find some great professionals out there looking to work for your business. read more

Never even been here... I was shopping for a bike at Landis and asked the wifey to go outside and call BB to price shop a similar bike... She was shocked when she came back at how rude the guy was on the phone, saying that if we didn't have at least $2k to spend on a entry level full suspension mountain bike that we'd be wasting our time... No worries, I bought a badass $2k Specialized upgraded to the 9's... Not BB's "entry level"... And all of this could have been avoided with a little customer service... read more

Customer service is shocking and I don't know how they've stayed in business. I'm just getting into cycling for the first time since I was a kid, and should have checked this site before purchasing at the Bike Barn. When I told the salesman that I was 'new' to modern cycling, his response was 'go borrow somebody else's bike'. Way to get people into cycling and keep customers, eh? I had already made the trip out there and purchased although shouldn't have - I truly wish another shop got my money. He never offered to fit (which I later realized was very important) or even ask my height, riding style, etc which has cost me some pretty stiff joints and a trip to the chiropractor. I had to ask all the questions - he could care less. When he was putting on some add-ons, I asked if I could watch and his response was to turn his back to me and completely covered what he was doing. I'm sorry, Mr. Personality - I am new, trying to learn and tried to be a customer! On my first ride I realized that the brakes were not assembled correctly and had to take it to another shop to get them fixed - I couldn't stomach taking it back even though it was brand new. I just took it in for its 'free tune up' and they were jerks then, too. I picked it up (or rescued it, rather) tonight and they man who returned it was nice - I'll give him that, but short of Bike Barn being the only bunker during a nuclear fallout, I'll never return. Better customer service can be found at the motor vehicle division in August. They say that a person will tell 50 people about a bad experience, and here it is, as seen on Yahoo and Facebook as well. Maybe they only like seasoned riders. If you're not, save yourself the high blood pressure and go to any other store. read more

Brought my bike in to get it repaired and left with both tires flat told that they are dry rotted even though they are less than 2 months old. I don't believe that my bike was stored in the correct way. I recommend fixing your bike yourself if you have the tools or the ability which I should have done in the first place I guess read more

Last Sunday, February 22nd, I walked my bike down there with two flat tires. My bike doesn't fit in my car and I live fairly close by. When I arrive, there was a sign on the door saying "Computer Down" and the employee was very nice but said they couldn't help me in any way. Honestly I was frustrated. I know he is just an employee and not an owner but I feel like he could have helped me with two tire tubes and I could have given him cash and we both could have gone about our day. Instead I was refused service because of a computer outage and had to walk my bike home resulting in missing out on a group bike ride that afternoon. Maybe I'm Old School but computers don't have to run everything, you can't forget about just helping people and earning their loyalty. I was just really disappointed. read more

I stopped in there on Sunday because like an idiot I had taken the back wheel off my bike and then couldn't put it back together again...I'd lost a few ball bearings along the way too (mechanical stuff isn't my strong suit). It was embarrassing to me that a simple project had gotten so complicated due to my own ineptitude. Anyway, they were really nice about it. They didn't howl at my expense, although I certainly deserved it. The mechanic came out, grabbed my bike out of the back of the car, and fixed it on the spot (and it was way more complicated than even he thought it would be, I had screwed it up so badly). To top things off, even though it took him a good half hour, he was reluctant to charge me. I insisted and we finally settled on $10. It was a perfect customer experience for me, and I really don't understand any of the negative comments about service, attitude, prices, etc. I'll definitely be back. read more

I've never seen my bike so clean and shiny as it is now after just a standard tune up service. This being my first time here, I was expecting them to run down a long list of repair needs. In the end, my bike was ready on time as promised with absolutely NO additional charges or "recommended" repairs. They even spared me the sales pitch on new tires or added accessories. I feel like this place trusts you to know what you need and doesn't try to swindle you. Even after I paid and was halfway out the door, they still took care of me and adjusted my seat and my blinker lights for me. read more

Yes, only 2 stars for this place. I'll start on a positive note: the guy who helped give me my repair estimate was polite, courteous, and helpful. However, his suggested repairs/parts replacements were way more expensive than need be; a tuneup was automatically added to the bill to the tune of $70; looking at the total cost, I winced. The repair guy said to me, "At that price, you could get a new bike for just $150 more"...I winced again, and said I didn't want to do that; this bike was a gift, and I wasn't about to blow more money, not to mention they didn't even carry the brand of bike I had...I received a printout of the estimate: $214...seriously?? He kindly helped me get my bike back into my car, and promptly drove to Landis Cyclery...great repairs done without inflating the cost with unnecessary parts or tuneup; the cost there was less than half of what Bike Barn quoted...that's what I get for going to a place that was convenient; Landis was worth the drive. Bye bye, Bike Barn...my business will go to Landis from now on. (P.S. my bike now rides like a dream!) read more

I visited the Bike Barn on a whim, while I was at a street fair in the neighborhood. I fell in love with the Electra bike line. The staff answered my questions without pressuring me at all. I went home, researched the Electra bikes, and returned a few weeks later to make a purchase. The service was excellent. They offer a free tune-up once you break your bike in. I have had so much fun on my Townie! One of my friends bought the very same model, but had some problems with it. The good folks at the Bike Barn took care of the necessary adjustments, and now she's a happy biker, too! They have a great selection of accessories, and will happily special order items they don't have in stock. Their turn-around time is great, too. I recommend them without reservation. read more

I rented a road bike from Bike Barn while in town for a conference. They carried Specialized Roubaix for performance rentals with decent components (Ultegra). When I arrived, the bike was literally brand new. They hooked me up with a water bottle and flat kit. They quickly installed my pedals and made a few fitting adjustments. I returned the bike about 30 min after my 4 hour rental and they didn't charge me. Awesome service. Highly recommend if you are looking for a quality bike rental when visiting Phoenix. read more

Worst Bike Shop EVER! After being assured by the staff at "Bike Barn" in Phoenix that they do ship recumbents and could pack ship the Bacchetta Strada plus some extra components to me for $60 plus shipping via Fed Ex to me here in San Francisco, I bought a bike from someone on Craigslist . I then never heard from Bike Barn after they got my bike delivered to them with my information. I called two days later and the Manager then told me that the guy who confirmed with me was new and they don't really do that for $60, it should be more, but they would figure something out when they get a box, but acted like they were gonna charge me more than they quoted. Then the ASS. Manager called me a day later and said they were going to pack it all in a huge 7foot box and had determined with FedEx that it was gonna cost me $441 to San Francisco! They gave me some attitude when I said that was utterly ridiculous, given that I shipped a trike from Florida to San Francisco for $150 total. I could fly there, pick it up and fly it back for less! They were unsympathetic and downright unhelpful when I suggested they pack it in two boxes and they just actually suggested I ship it via truck! I then called Sun Cyclery (Bike Barn got a box from them) as I was clearly SOL with the knuckleheads at BB. The difference in attitude and service was dramatic and amazing! Joe at Sun Cyclery was friendly, polite and knowledgeable and said he had just shipped something similar to my bike for a LOT less than $441! He explained that Bike Barn SHOULD KNOW BETTER than to ship it all in one gigantic box and that two boxes were required to keep it within FedEx shipping Requirements. Joe went over and picked up the bike (after Bike Barn refused to drive it the 6 mi.) He packed it and shipped it four days earlier than promised and for $227 total! Not $501 total! Joe packed it securely using old inner tubes, which were inflated inside the box to keep it all snug and secure! Creative attention to detail, friendly, polite and platinum quality service is what you get from Sun. Avoid Bike Barn at all costs! Go to Sun! read more

I'm rather surprised by the reviews I'm seeing since I've had nothing but good experiences here. I've started road biking more seriously and have come here often for pointers and opinions. Mary and Ryan have been great, and while I don't know the other guys someone always says hello when I walk in. My only "bad' experience was well over a year ago when I took an ancient road bike I owned in for a tune-up. I discovered after picking up the bike that I couldn't come to a stop because no one had actually adjusted the brakes. Obviously that's a big issue so I did come back in with it. They ended up replacing the brake pads for free since someone wasn't very thorough with the tune up. It sucked having to go back in but at least they fixed the problem with no out of pocket costs. So I'll just chalk that one up to a fluky seasonal hire and move on. Aside from that, I like coming to this store enough to drive out of my way (I no longer live in the neighborhood) to pick up things for my bike. I have a new bike now and have had them fit me to it, which they've been great with too. read more

This is my go-to local bike shop and once again, they exceeded my expectations on some recent service/repair work on my wife's Trek bike and also my Cannondale road-bike. I want to especially recognize Hamilton in the Service Department for his attitude, customer service, and communication. After I crashed my Cannondale, he went above and beyond in making my bike ride-able until I could source repair parts for this 10-yr old bike (e.g. Dura Ace 7700/7800 derailleur and rubber brake hood for Dura Ace 7700 9-spd shifter). This past week, he installed my "new" repair parts and this bike feels as good as new again. I am very happy with his work and feel like I paid a fair price. read more

Just recently bought a Hybrid bike here from Mary the manager. She well deserves 5 out of 5 stars! She has excellent customer service and is very accommodating. She took my measurements and offered lots of suggestions based on previous customers. She also brought in her own experiences based on living in the area for a while. Very helpful. I also liked that she ultimately she left the choice up to me. I was between a Trek FX size Medium and Size large. Honestly the medium felt so awkward, the size was just not quite right. I felt crunched, too small. When I tried the large it feel much more comfortable but almost seemed too big. I have Trek road bike and wanted to love the Trek Hybrid but the fit was not right. Disappointed in Trek on that one. We came back a week later when they had ordered more bikes in more sizes (4 stars for forgetting to calling us when the orders came in, as they had told us they would). I tried the Trek one more time. Still not the right fit. Finally I tried a new brand, Specialized, and low and behold, it was perfect! All my fit problems solved. The medium was a dream. It was a little more pricey but having the right fit it always worth it. They even threw in a women's seat for free! After riding my new Specialized Sirrus Hybrid to work, I am so pleased! For all of our bike needs we will definitely be coming back here :) Also 4 stars for one of the other reps who took my drivers license because I was test riding a bike. I was about the leave the store and he never gave it back to me. Had to run back in and tell them that he forgot to give it back. Not sure of his name, young guy though. Staff was courteous and helpful. We wanted to spruce up our bikes with bells and whistles and they were attentive to our requests.

My wife and I scouted many bike shops in the Arcadia area, and while we liked those too, none offered to let us test ride before we bought. Bike Barn did. We are admittedly new to biking and had a lot to learn. But Kevin D went above and beyond to educate us and really made sure we left with the perfect bikes for us. I have been to this place once before, but the second time I came in was to get my bike checked out because my brand new bike tires would not fill up with air. The floor salesman asked me a couple of questions about my bike and was a bit snippy with me. Making me feel the reason my bike tires were flat was due to consumer error as not filling the tires up with air. When I brought the bike in, the repair guy behind the counter was very nice and was able to take out the tubes and realized they were terrible quality and had holes in them. The floor salesman then asked if I had ever filled up the tires since buying the bike in December... again making me feel like this was an issue caused by not putting air in the tires. Overall, my experience with the other gentleman was great, but the salesman needs to learn a little bit about customer service and how to treat his customers with respect. Otherwise I would have given my experience 5 stars. read more

Came out to LV with a few friends. I was recommended to use LV Cylery to rent a few bikes. Bikes and service was great. I brought my road bike and while I went moutain biking they fixed my issues with my bike. Going out to Red Rock is a must do if you are in Vegas. ugh, these guys are such crooks. some of it is they're lazy and uncaring...another part of it is they know what they're doing, ripping customers off, but simply don't give a day-um. a few times over the years i went in here looking to maybe purchase a bike, but was turned off by the indifferent-to-non-existent customer service i received. fast forward to a few months ago, when i was looking to buy a middle-of-the-road bike: not the cheapest/not the most expensive. about $650-$750 or so. i checked Target, Wal-Mart and the big box stores, but the crappy bikes there for $250-$350 were just not quality enough. Bike Barn is in my neighborhood, so i thought to give it a try, despite the negative energy i received in the past from this place. i ended up spending around $750 on a Trek bike sold to me by a bedraggled old guy (50something with glasses) who looks like he lives on a bike trail. fair enough i thought...he probably knows his stuff, seeing as how he looks like he lives for biking. BIG MISTAKE. they had to assemble my bike in the store. they did. i rode it home and immediately noticed the wheels were out-of-alignment, the seat was unstable and there was a persistent weird clicking noise as the wheels turned. simply put, they assembled the bike improperly. WWWAAAYYY improperly. i'll spare you the details, but i went back THREE TIMES to have this problem fixed and FINALLY the woman (50s-ish?) owner of the joint stepped in and had her seemingly best guy fix the problem. NO APOLOGY. nothing. despite me wasting several hours of my workday on to-and-from trips to this chop shop when i should have been able to buy a new bike assembled properly the first time. i also had an issue with this place where soon after the Trek bike purchase, i encountered a flat tire. as an act of goodwill Bike Barn offered to fix the problem for free. they didn't replace the tire when they said they would. they simply replaced the inner tube and (poorly) patched the old tire; i know this because several months later my "new, fixed" tire was flat in the exact same place (semi-large hole spewing air). in short, their patch job, which they said WAS A NEW TIRE, failed. CROOKS. LIARS. CHEATS. they seriously give the bike community a bad, shady name. the nice Arcadia location and cutesy pootsy barn building is tempting..."hey, there's a cute bike shop in the nice part of town." but MAN...buyer beware. if you spend money here, from my experience, you will get a substandard product priced at a premium that may or may not be assembled correctly, you will be shortchanged on repairs, and will generally be treated with customer contempt on a Lux Coffee-level of disdain. A-V-O-I-D. UPDATE (9/9/15): also, i notice on the Yelp reviews for Bike Barn, the owner type person replies to all with a "thanks for supporting" for positive reviews, and a "hey man, you're wrong and/or give us another try" for negs. people are too busy to give your business second, third and sometimes even FOURTH chances. rather than be so vigilant on Yelp and eyeing your business' reviews like a hawk (lame, easy to complain about customer response after-the-fact), get in the damn store and take care of your customers IN-PERSON, price your products fairly, and for the love of gosh, be NICE to people when they are actually spending their time in your business and SPENDING their hard-earned money to support your livelihood. during several trips to Bike Barn over the course of three years, i encountered bad service every time. we will never go back. why? there are other options and you, Bike Harm, don't deserve business because you don't treat people well. if i have to drive an extra 15 mins to downtown Phoenix or East Valley, fine. read more

A few months ago after a really horrible day at work I got in my mind that I needed to buy a bike. Not just any bike, a really fabulous beach cruiser bike. I know that I live in Arizona and there is no beach to cruise by....however, I needed this bike. I live in Arcadia and have driven by the Bike Barn hundreds of times... but now it was my time to explore what they had in store for me. I went on the website and had picked out a fierce black cruiser with pink flames... at the time this matched my mood so I felt that it had my name written all over it. I snuck out of work and went straight there. There it was! My furious cruiser staring right at me! The sales person came up to me and asked how he could help. I immediately responded with I want this one..... Sadly I was informed that it was a children's bike. Now you understand how little I know about bikes. He kindly escorted me to the adult section were I discovered a baby blue cruiser that made my heart melt. It was dressed in a giant red bow and had white flowers painted on it, a tan leather seat with more flowers and cork handle bars. The best part was that it had a basket. I bought it right then and there. The sales guy ( I wish I could remember his name) was so kind. He took my new purchase to the back were he examined her and made sure she was good to go. Before I left he made sure to tell me to bring it back in 30 days and they will give her a tune up! Since buying her she has been back for a tune up and checked out perfectly. I officially love the Bike Barn and the staff. If you are in the market for a new bike I highly recommend it! read more

The selection of bikes and accessories here is pretty good, but the service was terrible. These were the most unfriendly, annoyed, least helpful people I've ever experienced at a bike shop. They were annoyed that we got there 20 minutes before closing and practically shooed us out the door promptly at 5 'til. We rode our bikes there and bought a basket for my cruiser (and a couple other things) and asked them if they had a tool we could use to put it on real quick. They said "maybe if you got here 25 minutes earlier we could help you." I mean, I get it, you're closing, but you don't have to be so rude. It would probably have taken you five minutes to put it on since you probably do that exact thing about 5 times a day. Plus, we have been to a lot of bike shops and they are usually the most friendly people, willing to stay an extra few minutes to earn your business. We've spent thousands of dollars at other bike shops and we won't be going to this one again, even though it's just blocks from our house. read more

We purchased a child seat for the back of our bike that was on display in their store and brought our bike in to have it put on. After loudly complaining about how hard it may be to install, they told me it would be 5 days. I left the bike and said not a problem. Happily they called 2 days later. The child seat they put on was not the same child seat in the store. When I questioned them about it, they stated that it was the same seat just a different model. I said it looks quite different as the bar does not go over the head and the foot rests are not adjustable. They stated that it was the same quality/same seat but just a different model. I took the bike home and my kid loves it. After we took our first ride I did a little research. Come to find out that the seat they put on is the cheaper version that is not as safe or strong as the one I requested and thought I was getting. The non caring and looking at me as if I was wrong when I questioned the bike seat was not necessary and I nor my family (with 2 young kids that will be getting many new bikes over the next 10 years) will never be back. If you are putting a different product than purchased it should be told to the customer and they should not be shamed when asking about it. read more
