I used to be a regular (commuter pass) supporter of Biki, and it's sad to see such a great idea go downhill, but I feel like ever since COVID, they rebalanced the number of bikes available, and they've lost bikes through theft that haven't been repurchased, and thus things are going downhill. I live near multiple Biki stations in the heart of Waikiki and I so frequently see empty stations. Not a single bike available. I used to have the same issue when I would ride Biki to work, then get stuck at work because all the stations near the university were empty. I ended up not staying on my commuter plan and just purchasing a ride here or there as I needed. But I've found that between having my own bicycle and using TheBus when I don't want to take my bike somewhere, my needs are covered ... and I still see empty Biki stations around. I really hope the city can help infuse much-needed funds into repurchasing bikes so that they are available for riders. read more

I am a bicycle advocate, and I hate to pile on, but this business is clearly struggling and the bike I rented was completely unsafe. One brake didn't work, the other was full on (and grinding) or nothing. The head bearings were so loose the handlebar and front wheel rocked back and forth several cm. The chain skipped while pedaling. I am a keen cyclist and amateur bike mechanic of 40+ years. I know that this all didn't happen overnight - these bikes cannot be properly maintained. Now reading all the horror stories of overcharging on Yelp - I am glad I video'd my bike locked securely at the end of my ride, and pray I don't have to deal with that hassle too. I'd love this to be a success story, we need more safe and effective bicycle options, but right now sadly, Biki is not helping the cause. read more

I am absolutely furious at how poorly your online subscription system works and how shockingly terrible your customer service is. When I tried to purchase a monthly subscription online, the system kept rejecting my credit card with an error saying my card number was invalid and that I needed to enter my address, state, city, and ZIP code -- none of which ever appeared anywhere on the screen. This wasn't just a minor glitch; it completely prevented me from completing a legitimate purchase. So I called customer service for help. I clearly told the representative that the American Express card I was using was issued in the United States and that my billing address has been in Hawaii for over 10 years -- not Japan. Yet this man repeatedly insisted that Japanese-issued credit cards were not accepted and that the problem was somehow with the bank linked to my card. He kept pushing this ridiculous explanation despite me clarifying my situation multiple times. This wasn't assistance -- it was blatant misinformation and dismissiveness. He even went so far as to claim that the subscription is "only for locals, not tourists," and seemed determined to categorize me as a tourist even after I explained that I've been a U.S. citizen and Hawaii resident for decades. That was insulting and totally irrelevant to the problem. To prove the issue had nothing to do with my card, I then purchased a single ride at a Biki station kiosk using the same Amex card -- and it went through without a single issue on the same card that your system claimed was invalid. That proves the card and billing address were perfectly fine. Yet the representative just made up excuses like falsely claiming my billing address wasn't in Hawaii, refused to offer any real support or escalation, and kept blaming me for something your system clearly messed up. When I asked to speak with a supervisor, he went silent, changed the subject, and evaded giving his name. That is absolutely unprofessional -- someone providing legitimate customer service should have no problem identifying themselves and escalating an issue when requested. Thinking it was pointless, I hung up and called again, only to have the same guy answer and introduce himself as "James", which frankly makes me wonder if he even gave me his real name. This interaction was not just unhelpful -- it was incompetent, biased, and disrespectful. On top of this, I used to have a Biki benefit through my previous company, but that disappeared without notice. This whole experience makes me question the management structure of your organization itself. Frankly, it's scary that someone like this -- who clearly lacks basic customer service skills -- is representing your company. This bike renting service sucks big balls! I had their previous app which worked decently, but when I needed to actually rent a bike their service was terrible. Their machines still had credit card readers but apparently you can only use their app. But when I used their previous app there was nothing saying the app is no longer being used and a totally new app (pbsc) was officially being used. Then after logging in again to the new app, it refused my payment card from three different banks. I called the support number and it says you gotta request for them to call back. Once a rep called, they had the nerve to say call my bank, yet three banks all with available funds can't be problematic. The rep didnt even attempt to help me. When I luckily got the app to work 10 minutes later while still on the phone with the rep, the rep said he didnt see any purchase on my account. After asking what was his purpose if he was customer service and couldnt do nothing for a self-service automated system he finally asked for my account number (didn't you have it from before?) and magically a one way ride pass appeared. Unfortunately for him, I was already on the bike and riding. I just wasted half an hour that I could have rode the bus for $2 less and had air conditioning. Love that Hawai'i has ONE bike/scooter rental system unlike on the mainland where Uber, Lyft and other apps all have their presence in big cities. 7 mile bike ride cost about $10, since we paid by the 30 minute interval. An update concerning the "Biki app": When I first discovered Biki, I utilized the original Biki branded app. Then one day, I couldn't access my account. I called the business office, and they explained the change. If you have--or want to open an account with Biki, the app you need is called "PBSC". (See photo.) Once you download the PBSC app, you tap on the tab (left-hand side) and select a bike share service (in this case Biki). I can imagine all the good business reasons why Biki (and a lot of other bike share programs) have subscribed to this service, rather than maintain their own IT system. Previously, I purchased a plan to use the bike a certain amount of time over a year. My Ebike broke down so while it's in the shop, I wanted to get a biki to get to work and such. I thought I purchased the same plan but later learned it was a 24 hour jumper for $21. I also got charged $5.50 this morning. I called customer service and told JD what had happened and was told they wouldn't do anything. They saw I used the bike once and not again in the 24 hour period. Obviously I made a mistake in the subscription I purchased. Rather than do what any customer service based company would do and say, "we can change the subscription to the one you wanted. We just need to charge the $5 more to pay the subscription completely and you get what you wanted minus the already used time for your bike ride yesterday." Instead they just say, thanks for the money you worked hard for and you won't be getting anything in return. I would suggest using another bike rental company in Waikīkī. Convenience is cool but customer service is a must when needed. Not just being a greedy, bad for the aloha state, customer service company. I wasn't asking for anything free, I paid $26 and got a 35 minute ride in return. When an accident occurs, you try and remedy it for the sake of being on the up and up with customers and not look like you're just in it to take as much as you can with no give (that sounds more like what a business that won't be in business for very long does). I am willing to pay the difference between the accident and the plan I was looking for. When speaking with JD (the worst customer service agent I've ever dealt with), I am to the point I wish there was a person I could speak to that wasn't acting like a tough person on the other side of a phone. Almost the worst customer service you can find. Funny that, in the aloha state, there is no aloha with biki. I hope the state or city and county people who gave them the contract to set up shop here, actually does their due diligence and lets them know it's the aloha that does matter in customer service in the state of Hawaii. Don't rent from them for moral reasons that you hopefully don't have to find out about yourself. It's hard enough to survive in this broken economy. Biki charged us $125 saying we maxed out the limit on our 10 min bike ride. We filed a police report as Biki suggested someone took it. Now its been several weeks and I got another charge from Biki. On the map it shows most stations have 0-3 bikes. I went to Biki Bikes for an interview. I actually went twice. Both of the times was with Jonathan A. I'm really not sure what this guy wants. He asked the same questions and I don't think he is very enthusiastic about his job. Like he just has that, "why would you want to work here?" vibe. This was for the Bike Mechanic. I love fixing things and getting my hands dirty. I thought it was interesting to learn about bikes and would be cool to have the "mechanic" title. Anyways, he showed me the area where the mechanics work on bikes. There was an old man working there (not friendly + seems out of it). He didn't even introduce himself and avoided me. What was amazing was there was a mountain of broken and vandalized bikes there. It was pretty shocking. After I left, I thought maybe, just maybe I got the job but got absolutely no response. Needs Technology improvements, the docking stations suck and they charge people when it's not their fault. They are literally robbing people of their money. There are some critical reviews of Biki but my expectations were low and I really appreciate the convenience. It's usually pretty easy to find a Biki station. I quickly learned to check that the tires are properly inflated before I disengage the bike from its base. With adjustable seat height, a basket on the handlebars, a comfortable riding position, and a 3-speed internal gear hub, the bikes are more than adequate for the purpose. Okay, the brakes could be better but these are still fun rides. Do other cities with these rental systems do a better job? Mostly, yeah. Would I want to be without Biki in Waikiki? We used Biki for 2 bikes for a one-way 30min ride. We docked the bikes on the station so that the green light was showing (as directed). To my surprise the next day I had two $100 charges. I called and the representative said my bikes were docked after a full day or two went by (untrue - we had the bikes for 20 minutes at most). Meaning - we docked them "improperly" despite the green light showing and moving the bike around to ensure it was locked. The woman on the phone could only reimburse one charge fully and the other was a partial refund. She claimed the second charge was separate so it cannot be refunded fully, although the bikes were rented and docked at the exact same time at the exact same stations. I strongly do NOT recommend this company. They penalize their clients for their own technical flaws. The bikes and racks are beat up and in poor condition. No surprise their locking system is flawed. They also don't inform you of when they're going to make additional charges to your card. It's just a pleasant surprise when you check your statements. 10/10 would NOT recommend. As a resident in the Waikiki area, I am writing to explain how they have lost me as a customer. I have been the occasional rider that enjoys the 300min plan for going to the beach or going out to eat. I have found this to be a nice healthier option to not have to drive around town. I walked to the Biki station to find that the policy had my minutes expire after a one year time frame and that you are no longer able to purchase Kama'āina subscriptions through the app. The credit for the minutes that I purchased should NEVER expire and now that I'm standing outside the bike station - I am no longer able to make an in-app purchase that is logged in, ready to use, with card on file. In addition, they have collected my personal information such as cell phone number, email, and my address. In all the subscriptions that have been purchased, Biki has never once sent out a heads up via paper in the mail, an email, call, or even a text that the minutes would be expiring. I ended up walking instead. The next day, I go online to GoBiki.org. I go to log into my Profile, however the password that I have written down in my notebook no longer works. How? I send the change password link to my email, log into my email, use the create new password link to reset my password to the same old password. (So humbug- when I know my password) I finally get logged into your platform to find that you took 2 hours 53 minutes and 46 seconds of credit from me. That's more than I actually used the bike! (2 hours 6 minutes and 14 seconds) The policy is extreme and you are cheating people out of money. Then, I go to purchase a new Free Spirt plan. Two problems with this: YOU RAISED YOUR PRICE FROM $25 to $55? That is more than double! Kama'āina and Visitor are the both the same price! Novel idea for locals and tourists to bike around Honolulu and not have to find parking for busy spots in Waikiki, Kakaako, Ala Moana, and Ward areas. Took a spin on the bikes while I was home on vacation and enjoyed bar hopping and brewery hopping in Ward and Kakaako. Helpful hints: -Download the Biki app at home in or in wifi -Sign up for monthly $15 pass if you plan to bike for a few hours- you only need about 6 (30 min) rides to break even - Dock bike every 30 mins even if you have the pass-otherwise you'll be charged an extra ride ($3.67) currently. -Makes sure you hear the click and mechanical lock of the bike to the station to prevent docking trouble which will lead to more fees -Scan the maps ahead of time to carve a path for yourself on your ride so you don't exceed the 30 mins read more

Do not use this company! I had a very frustrating experience with Biki Bike rental. After returning the bike, they continued to charge my account for hours beyond the rental period--and these charges seemed to go on indefinitely. When I contacted customer service, I received little to no help, and they essentially said there was nothing they could do. Biki is THE last mile solution for public transit. Before the days of Biki, I had to wait for my transfer bus to Kaka'ako at King/Punchbowl. I could take the 42 all the way from Pearlridge, but that is way too long and has too many stops since it's about the same speed as the 53 (goes on freeway instead of under the airport viaduct) during rush hour. Que Biki. I was very apprehensive at first because 6 people had died in Kaka'ako by a guy speeding away from getting a DUI and crossing over onto Kamake'e Street from Ala Moana Boulevard westbound the last minute the week before. A friend told me to never be afraid of taking risks and go for it! And I did! Bicycling isn't that bad from Punchbowl/King to the John A. Burns School of Medicine. Just gotta take Punchbowl to Queen to the South Street Bike Path. Easy peasy in 8 minutes including time waiting at stoplights. I'm doing the $15/month plan, which is very budget friendly. Minus one star for poor customer service via email regarding corporate discount issues. As long as you've made sure the green light is on, the bike locked, and beep noise sounds before you leave, you shouldn't be charged for any overage charges. Really. read more

I would consider myself an avid city biker who loves the outdoors and former Citi biker (NYC). TBH I was actually scared to use these bikes because of the brutal reviews. I would at first take extended videos of me docking the bike as well as the bike number. Nothing bad happened yet -after nearly a month of use. When they called I opted to not get a key, because of fear of losing the key and someone taking a bike out. Please please please add a tracker to the app. Please model your UI after Citi. I want to know how long my rides were as well as if I currently have a bike out. I would love to receive an app notification if my bike is docked. I understand this must cost some money to update the app - but clearly from the reviews below people are losing bikes. I have experience docking bikes - which probably has helped here. read more

The bike locking system is absolutely a design fault and this is just their way to scam their customers. I parked the same way I parked all other rental bike. No one knows if the bike was found in 24 hours or the bike was really not successfully returned. They just want you money and charge you right away. Apparently the Biki stations can lock your bike up when returned, but the computers did not compute.... Someone else the next day rented the ones we had and now they are gone and Biki wants to charge us for their own technical fuck up... not happy at all and will not be risking using Biki ever again. This is only usable if you plan to stay very close to the beach area of Waikiki. If you plan to go any further out you will end up paying extra. You only get 30 minutes for your trip. Ever heard of the Divvy in Chicago? Or Metro Bikes in LA? I love riding bikes around cities I visit so when I heard Honolulu would get a bike share program I was so excited! I love to Biki! I will totally hop on a Biki given the chance. I have the Free Spirit Plan which is $20 for 300 minutes. The app has been easy to use and accurate for me. I've heard nightmare stories about riders not locking in their bikes and receiving a huge charge, but not me. I always make sure I hear the locking noise and double check it by pulling on the bike after it's locked in. Having Biki as an option has been a great convenience. I don't live in town but when in town, it has come in handy for me and has also saved me on occasions. One time I tried to enter, with my car, downtown Honolulu for a 7pm reservation on the night of the Honolulu City Light Parade. IMPOSSIBLE- so I thought. I'm glad Biki rescued me and got me to the reservation on time. Granted, I parked near Kaka'ako but the ride to Hotel Street was super fun! Another time, I thought I had the power to take a run around Diamond Head after a fun night of drinking. Well, right around KCC my energy fizzled but Biki to the rescue! I rode down Monsarrat to my car in a few minutes which would've probably taken me a good 15 minute. I also rode a Biki around Waikiki when I was on a staycation and even went on a Biki date with the hubby around town. It's a great option to have as public transportation for me! I've lived in Hawaii all of my life but worked, traveled and visited other cities where transportation other than automobiles is a welcomed mode of transportation. In the recent months, the City & County of Honolulu restriped and altered the traffic pattern to accommodate bikers at large. This change affected the auto drivers at large; starting with the loss of one traffic lane but I assume the engineers ran their studies and took the number of autos, trucks etc and measured against the highway and street miles available and then concluded the reduction of traffic lanes is allowable and bikers can be afforded their "bike lane". So along comes Biki; providing bicycle services to John Q Public at large. This service will eliminate the hassle of parking your car in the already crowded downtown area, give you another mode of transportation in and out of the infamous Waikiki, provides a means of social activity to those who want to take a weekend bike ride from one point to another, and the list goes on. Kudos to BikiHawaii.org. Such a great idea and an investment on the part of Biki. I hope our community is open to such changes as I personally consider this PROGRESS. First, it's a wonderful service to have, but the devil is in the details. In order to undock a bike you input a code on a 3 button pad. They chose the worse button design I can imagine. These are tiny, unresponsive buttons. They are supposed to give audio feedback (bleep) when pushed, of course this rarely works. I have no idea how to push these buttons. Do you use a fingernail? The soft part of a finger? For the first time in my life I don't know how to operate a button! Today I tried over a dozen times, with at least 4 different codes. Finally ended up walking. Biki used to be a lot better. Maintenance seems to be a problem. I always check the wheels spin freely, the breaks work, the seat adjusts. Unfortunately you can't check the gear box before renting. Essentially a tourist scam. We only went to rent these bikes because our hotel gave us "$4" credit to use them per person. We decided it would be a nice way to explore the beach after breakfast for a short bike ride. We went to the machines and paid the $9.50 to release the two bikes for 30 minutes. However we were told by the hotel we had to bring our receipt back to get reimbursed, and we never got a receipt upon checkout because the machine was out of paper. We accepted the loss on that and figured maybe the bike ride would be worth it. Getting the bikes out was a little difficult but we finally managed. However as soon as we hopped on the bikes that was when the problem started. My bf is 6'5 and could barely fit comfortably on the bike. I'm 5'1 and on the lowest setting, I couldn't comfortably pedal. My bf lifted up the seat but then it was too tall for me to get on. We attempted to figure out an arrangement for me to pedal but either I was going to damage my knee or I was going to fall off the bike when I stopped. Eventually we weighed out the pros and cons and decided to just take the $9.50 total loss and check the bikes back in. Honestly we were extremely disappointed and I cried because we figured it just wasn't meant to be. Again, we had the bikes for less than 5 minutes, NEVER left the docking station area, and checked our bikes back in. However less than an hour later, I get a call from their company saying that I never returned a bike and had to go back downstairs and look for it, essentially telling me I was responsible for whatever happened to a bicycle that was officially docked in THEIR machine. Mind you, this isn't the first time I've used a bike or scooter rental service so I was honestly confused. What do you mean I have to go physically look for the bike that I didn't lose? Where I'm from, their rental services always have a gps on their bikes and scooters to locate them & ALSO the bikes or wheels automatically lock up once the bike or scooter has been used past their rented time. Regardless i wasn't in the mood for a fight and it was a short walk. I go and check for the bike, and after I call and get the number of the missing bike, it's obviously not there. I told her that I wasn't sure what she wanted me to do about it considering I never left the docking area and I made sure I pushed my bike in. She essentially said she was going to charge me $100 if whoever took the bike didn't return it within 12 hours and that I needed to call back and check in on it. Essentially making this all my responsibility . Lololol. Anyways safe to say that if they try to charge me $100 for something that was due to their ineffective docking stations, lack of terms and agreement, and no written contract or policies, I will be fighting the charges. I've already paid $9.50 for a service I didn't even get to use, I am definitely not paying more than that for something that I had no responsibility in. Figure out your policy and implement safety features like gps and locking tire features that protect your company instead of trying to scam the people who were willing to use your service. read more

Terrible experience renting their bike. Oahu is not a bike friendly city, as most of the roads do not have bike lane. Cars do not give way to cyclist. This make riding the bike in this city very dangerous. You are also not supposed to be riding on pedestrian walk way, so you end up pushing the bike on the pedestrian walkway. Some pedestrian walk ways have many homeless tent, and the side of those roads have dirty pools of water, smelling like urine and feces. The handle of the bike is not clean, after riding the bike for 10+ minutes, my hands were very dirty. The quality of the bikes were not great either. It is also very hard to return the bike, many return stations are full, leaving you to look for another return station which is not very close. And you have to return the bike in 30mins, otherwise there will be an overtime charge. When I was returning my bike, another person who was also returning, came back to look for his bike, because the customer service rep called him and told him, their system was down, and he has to go back and look for his bike and return it again. read more

Bikes is disrepair, if you plan a one way, be prepared to not have a dock available for your bike and if you call them they'll wait 10 minutes then get back to you and tell you you must find a dock. This kinda ruins the whole one way thing. read more
