Went in for a few classes when I was in Dallas visiting my fam-I'd done Bikram yoga before, so I knew what to expect even though it'd been like, 5 years. Anyways, the studio is really nice and the instructors were great-they really helped you make corrections in your poses, as well as push yourself to do more. I went to my first ever hot yoga class here, about 30 mins in I felt like I was going to pass out and needed to get out of there the instructor threw a fit asking me in front of the whole class if I was aware that the class was 90 mins long and telling me I needed to stay until the class was over. Sorry not sorry, last time I checked I'm an adult and paying customer if I decide to leave I assume I have the free will to do so. Needless to say I never went back, but these people are insane apparently the instructors here think that when you pay for a class it gives them full control over you. And I agree with some of the other reviews the employees are not friendly at all, they acted so stuck up. read more

I've been trying BIkram out for several months now in Los Angeles (just started my own 30 day challenge) and of all the different studios I've tried out, this is easily the best. Took a class with Farky the other week while visiting family near by. He was a great instructor. Clear, concise and helpful. Strict but not militant. Really the best for helping me correct my pose. The facility was clean and welcoming. By far the best smelling Bikram studio I've been to. Congratulations on your 3 year anniversary! I'm looking forward to coming back soon. read more

The friendly staff is always welcoming me to class with a smile. Though nothing and no one is perfect, the class' do have a overall consistency with each instructor focusing on the dialogue and adding personal observations. As with a room that is hot and has consistently sweating human bodies, it may not smell like a flower garden, the studio is kept very clean and odor for a hot studio is IMO at a minimum. I try and practice 6 days a week and have attended for almost 3 years. I have discovered all my criticisms of studio have diminished as I have learned to bring focus onto my own mat and and let go of my notions of how things should be done. Enjoyed (?) a bikram class while in town on business. Terry, the instructor was so welcoming and I definitely got a sense of the community vibe here. Huge room, super hot and sweaty.... Which is a good thing if you know Bikram. Loved the needed and personalized corrections the ought the entire room. The showers were really clean, loved that they gave face, floor, class and shower towels. Traveling is a great way to check out yoga studios and this one is tops. read more

My 1st exposure to Yoga ever was at Bikram Richardson. The front desk guys were so nice and welcoming. My instructor at the 8am class was very patient and he had a easy going demeanor especially when he encouraged some of his students to perform some of the poses (especially if they've been coming for a while). On script as far as Bikram. Studio has a bad odor which is easily rectified with a $30 wax burner. Odor permeates your hair and clothing. You will take it home with you. As you watch people sweat you wonder how often they clean the studio floor. They need to rectify this unsanitary problem. Otherwise Bikram yoga delivers real results. But you have to make it a regular practice. Preferably daily. Which is why the odor problem in this studio needs to be addressed. read more

There are two parts to my review: The first part, where I comment that Bikram Yoga Richardson is the BEST work out that I've ever gotten anywhere (yoga, gym, jogging or otherwise.) And the second part, where I mention that I have had to deal with the stuck-up, condescending yoga instructors who seem to only cater to their "hot bodied" clientele and look down their noses at anyone who doesn't fit that "hot bodied" description, regardless of their stamina / effort in the 90 minute class. Or where I have to mention the STINKY facility that smells worse than the old gym shoe yoga studio in North Dallas I developed an aversion to several years ago. Guess this will be an opportunity to me to practice under the most unforgiving, unsupportive circumstances. And to think that I missed hot room yoga! Should continue to be interesting..... read more

I have been practicing Bikram yoga almost 20 years and have been to Bikram studios all over the US and Europe. I am so thankful my home studio is Bikram Yoga Richardson and their sister location in Allen. A lot of thoughtful details went into the design of this studio. The yoga room is very spacious and the locker rooms allow for easy transition of one class leaving and another one arriving. All of the instructors are well versed in the yoga moves and offer helpful tips during and after class. If you are considering adding yoga to your life I highly recommend this studio. read more

I am one that wants to believe bad reviews can be proved wrong, with Bikram Yoga Richardson the negative reviews are very accurate. Before signing up to pay $120 monthly I decided to purchase the Groupon. So glad I did this. The moment you walk in, it smells like a cat's litter box, which is probably the case considering this is the habitat of one very large gray cat that walks around on the front desk. The two instructors that I took were out of the world wonderful, to bad the owner proved to be such an angry, aggressive, unhappy individual. She is completely opposite of any Yogi I have ever met. All of the reviews that state the term is not honored are absolutely accurate. This is even when I called to confirm my membership didn't expire for two more weeks, the owner is simply a nickel and dimer! She should be in a different industry. Just goes to show why Power Play Hot Yoga gets 4.5 stars ad Bikram gets four. To Powerplay I go! read more

I recently purchased an Active.com Schwaggle coupon for Bikram Yoga Richardson and I am so glad I did. Outside of the typical hot yoga studio smell when initially walking in, this particular location is awesome! I used to be a member at the location off of Mockingbird Ln and I do recall the smell as well. Like one other yelper mentioned, the smell is a bit crazy when you initially walk in, but after a few minutes and some good savasna meditation, I don't even notice. Everyone in this location is amazing, nice, informative, etc. Thanks Richardson folks for being so welcome. I signed up as an official Bikrammite yesterday and I start my 60 day challenge tomorrow and am really excited about it!!! read more

I've been practicing bikram for over 8 years now and this is by far the worst studio I've ever been to. I was in town visiting family for a month so I got their introductory offer, but could only stand to attend 4 classes. One of the first things I noticed was the cats walking around. This may seem "cute" or "unique" to the owner, but I'm severely allergic and don't appreciate having an animal roaming around what is supposed to be a hygienic environment. Comments have been made about the moldy, sweaty smell. Obviously a bikram yoga studio has its own special smell, but this one is particularly bad. I also noticed the loud pop/rock music playing in the reception. During class, if you're anywhere near the glass doors/window at the back, you can hear the music when the air shuts off. It is the worst during final savansana. I find it highly contradictory that during class the instructor is talking about "shutting the static off" but you've got Bon Jovi blaring a glass window away! I mentioned this to the receptionist, who acted as though no one had ever said anything. But the worse was how unenergetic and amateurish the teachers were. (This does not include Jamie, who was absolutely fantastic.) The rest completely stuck to the bikram script, never deviated (unless it was a "quick announcement" about some upcoming studio event), never left the podium to adjust or help beginners. Basically, they didn't teach. At one class I was sat next to a beginner who was wearing socks - she had to figure out herself that no else was. At another, there was a beginner sat at the hottest part of the room and understandably, she had to crawl out on her hands and knees. The best studios I've been to (in Chicago, New York, London) have stood out because teachers take the time to deviate from the "script" and actually TEACH. This is especially important for beginners, who should be encouraged to practice bikram safely and correctly. If I lived in Dallas, I would certainly be finding another studio. The only reason I am giving it more than one star is that Jamie's class was uplifting, she encouraged the beginners, spoke of her own love of bikram and actually stepped foot off the podium to help students. read more

I love hot yoga very much and I 've been practicing almost two years now. I started doing in Sunstone first but the studio near me was closed so I needed to find another one and this is Bikram. If I compare two places, 1. the program in Sunstone is diverse than that in Bikram. It has only one 90 min program, so sometimes it can be boring but you can focus more. Still I do want Biram to make more programs for yoggie. 2; The social gather looks very active here in Bikram because the studio is much bigger and people are enjoying talking after practicing. 3. The teachers of both studios are very good and nice and they know what they are doing . But I hope teachers can keep the holding time of the postures. (Some teachers are very good at it but I feel some teachers don't watch the holding time. You know what? the lasting 2 seconds make you feel very different.) 4. The service of Bikram is not as good as that in Sunstone. The latter gives you towels and water and matt, but Bikram doesn't do that. Anyway,,,, Bikram is lovely place to start your yoga and come and join and feel the people's energy. read more

The location isn't my home studio because I live pretty far away, but I try to visit as often as possible. The teachers are excellent and the studio itself is incredibly clean. It is an inviting place with a great schedule and many opportunities to practice the original Bikram method, which I love. read more

I too am in a Love-Hate relationship right now and this rating will change based on which of the two, Love or Hate wins. I LOVE Bikram. Calorie burns over 4 days in a row: 891/925/1013/1067. Ainsley was great and instructive her sole communication with me was a modification (thank you). However my day 1 instructor made reference to my 'self-discipline' when I couldn't hit a pose ( so far i can do the breathing exercises the rest of my positions are admittedly ugly) and she seemed to teach and refer to her staff and business (during class) with alot of heavy innuendo while also referring to the studio as a "safe place." Today a 3rd employee taught my dazed and confused self that end of class was not end of class until she shared an inspirational quote. It was lovely. My infraction of getting up at the end of class that I had seen others do on prior days was met with in and out of class sarcasm moments with an audience.....albeit with an inspirational quote sandwiched in the middle. My hopes is they can stick to the script, inspiration is lovely, and a modification for us annoying newbies on occasion is appreciated. Also, if you have rules unique to you, the business or Bikram share them professionally. read more

Disappointing studio and would not recommend wasting your time and money here. I've been practicing hot yoga for 2 years and maybe it's cause I'm from Jersey and studios are different down here but this location of practice does not help you tone, gain strength, or practice hot yoga the correct way. Instead, it is 90 min of unnecessary hot torture that does nothing for your body. The main teacher creates a strict environment that honestly ruins your yoga practice. I attempted 1 bird of paradise and she yelled at me saying it was her pose or no pose. I'm sorry but I paid to go to a hot yoga class to have guidance, not feel like I'm in the army. Yoga should be about me, myself, and my practice. I respect that I should follow her guidance but if I want to practice some harder poses that go along with the guidance I feel are necessary for my practice, I should be able to. When people tried to leave to get water, she yelled at the class complaining that we should not leave the room. Don't waste your time here and find a hot yoga studio that doesn't make you feel scared to practice. read more

I had an unfortunately horrible experience at Bikram Yoga Allen location and left with an impression that they are very unfriendly. Today, I purchased yoga classes and attempted to try a Friday early noon class, only to arrive to be turned away, rudely. I got there couple minutes late, the class was doing the beginning breathing exercise. The instructor lady asked if I have been here before, I said this was my first time at this location. She then said if I haven't been here before, then she can't let me in (implying that had I been here before, I could have still joined the class?). Then she asked me to leave. While she was rushing me out, I asked if somebody can help me at least be entered into their system, (I have already PAID before I came to class), thinking so that next time maybe I CAN join a class that I paid for? She said no, and continued to rush me out the door. Maybe it was fine to be turned away from class, because I do recognize that I was couple minutes late. However, did she really have to do it in such a rude way? She shushed me with her hand signal and body languages multiple times and harshly said that I will not be helped because I needed to "get here BEFORE class." She said I can try to come back to their afternoon class BEFORE class then ask to be entered into their system. According to their website schedule, this instructor's name is Yassi. This was the only experience that I was allowed to have at this place. so, to be fair, I don't know if she is the only rude one, or the whole place is so unfriendly and uppity, that they think they are too good to help people who want to practice yoga there. The only thing I know for sure is that I am very disappointed. read more

I recently moved from the D.C. area, where I practiced at several bikram studios, and was pleasantly surprised to find this nice studio here. This studio is everything a bikram studio should be--personal, welcoming, challenging, a space where people gather before and after class, and with students of all shapes, sizes, and ages. The instructors are the best I've ever had--they will learn your name within the first week and help you learn / correct / push yourself during class, class after class. The space itself is nice and clean, though the carpet does smell a bit in the evening, and the women's locker room is well stocked with products. Classes get crowded in evenings (which is supposed to be a good thing because of group synergy right?, but also means it can feel much hotter), but you'll have plenty of breathing space in the daytime classes and the last class of the night. read more

I used to practice Bikram for many years, as well as many other forms of yoga. I was diagnosed with Breast Cancer, and have had numerous surgeries and chemo this year, and since then, I have many limitations that I'm working through. I'm a 500 hour certified yoga instructor and though my form isn't 100% right now, I'm currently struggling to get to where I was prior to cancer. This studio seems fine, but the instructor I had was very unprofessional. I had substituted the final twist to one on my back that another instructor had showed me because it felt better. The instructor barked at me to do the pose with the rest of the class, and I responded "I'd prefer to do this pose this way, if that's okay". She then told me to straighten my leg (which strains my back). Anyway, after class, I gathered my things as I would normally would do and headed for the door. She called me over and brought it up again, basically telling me to not revise the postures in class unless I speak with the instructor first. Mind you -- this was at the front desk, and she (again) was barking at me -- so everyone around me could hear. When I tried to explain to her that I've been doing yoga for years, and I know what works for my body, she then told me that my posture wasn't even a correct posture. I was shocked -- and THEN she proceeded to say that we shouldn't argue in class....what?! I told her I wasn't trying to argue with her, I apologized if she took it that way -- I just know what I can and can't do -- and she STILL went on about going to the teacher and getting instructions on what to do. I have never been treated with such disrespect. Her attitude was very cocky and completely unprofessional. She needs to learn how to TEACH rather than rattling off her script, which she clearly was (I know because I know this same script -- almost word for word). A good instructor would come up to a student quietly (not bark at them in front of the class) and maybe suggest another posture if they see them doing something and could suggest another pose that might help......rather than having an attitude with a student because they have another way to do things. This IS my practice, and yes, I'm familiar with Bikram's rigid ways, but I have had MANY great Bikram instructors in my life. She needs to work on her delivery and get this chip off of her shoulder. Your job is to teach, not read a script or scold people. Mockingbird is a much better location. If you are new to yoga, you should also try going to Gaia Flow in Addison or Uptown Dallas. I wish I had not bought a month long pass at this Bikram location. I certainly won't make that mistake again. read more

I really like this studio. The floor is great. Yay the carpet is gone. Carpet does hold smell and my feet used to slip on any studios that I have been to in the past that had carpet. The teachers are great and very helpful and friendly. The front desk staff is always helpful and friendly I have never had a bad experience there. I do have one complaint though.. They recently had a guest teacher Mary Jarvis who has been teaching Bikram for over 20 years. She even has her own studio in San Francisco. I was really looking forward to learning some new stuff, but I was very disappointed in this workshop. The first thing I noticed when she came into the studio is she was overweight. I'm sorry, but when you travel the country teaching the health benefits of and promoting Bikram yoga you need to bring your A game. The other part that was even more disappointing her teaching style was sloppy you never new when she wanted to you start a pose or end and transition to another pose. About halfway through the workshop people were doing the poses on their own timing. She would talk while you were holding a pose so the timing was off and you were holding them longer. I expected to hear pearls of wisdom that would help me with each pose, instead she was talking her own personal wisdom about things that had nothing to do with yoga, like don't smoke P**T before class. Class was supposed to start at 4:30, but it started late and was supposed to go for 2 hours. When I walked out of class( yes I walked out of a Bikram yoga class) it was 6:45 and we were just a few postures into the floor series. sorry, but spending 2/12 plus hours working out in a heated and very humid room left me feeling not very good. So, While I love the studio and the classes I will never attend a workshop from Mary Jarvis again. sorry Bikram studio, but she just wasn't very good. read more

Bikram yoga is my stress relief! I've been coming to this studio for a little over a month now. I've done other types of yoga before but bikram yoga is completely different. The studio, the staff, and instructors have all been great.There are times when the studio doesn't smell so nice but its expected with twenty-thirty people sweating profusely in one room all day. I am in my mid 40s, and coming here I felt a lot of pressure to do their every day class thing. Problem is, I was very out of shape (even after being in great shape in my 20s), and after about 3 weeks of going every day, I pulled both of my hamstrings. Some instructors are "OK" meaning that they don't yell at you to push it and go further. But I had one that called me out in class telling me that I wasn't doing what she said. I ended up in so much pain I waited several weeks before coming back, then I immediately pulled my hamstrings again. Waited then a month, then immediately pulled my hamstrings again. I even went directly to the owner or manager of the place and asked her about my situation, and she told me to keep coming every single day and she actually told me that would fix my injuries. I now realize that pushing all people that walk in the door like this, and even calling them out in class, is a horrible practice. I am now a member of a well known local gym that offers yoga along with so many other ways to work out and offers trainers to help you, that will tell you not to push yourself past your abilities, and cost AT LEAST HALF of what I was paying to go here. I would absolutely NEVER recommend this place to anyone unless they were young, and in absolute top physical shape. They really need to lay off their aggressive approach as it ended up with me having multiple injuries. BE CAREFUL. read more
