Nina, the Bilancio owner, was my favorite hairstylist everand I was sad when she switched to extensions only a few years back. I bounced around and barely ever got a spontaneous compliment. All that changed when I went back last week on Nina's recommendation to work with Kathleen. She is a treasure. A fantastic listener, patient. She loves what she does and that comes through. She's delightful company to boot. None of that would matter if the haircut and color didn't turn out great. I was not at all sure my hair could be salvaged after being razored and chopped in recent months. The color is dimensional and natural and the cut is terrific too. I came to this salon with blonde hair (first photo) and asked for a honey blonde. I left with black and semi red streaks (photo 2). The baseline of my hair was ruined, and I immediately contacted the salon in tears. I've asked for a refund at least 7 times because I'm too scared to have them touch my hair again, and they've refused to give me my money back to get it fixed elsewhere. My whole head of hair has been ruined with black lowlights when I asked for blonde hair, and it will cost me tons of time and money to get this fixed. read more

Today I met the god of hair, Joel. I recently moved to the area and used Yelp to find this wonderful salon. I have had blonde highlights for a few years now (since my natural blonde got darker and darker), but I've never gone to a really nice salon before. My experience could not have been better. I seriously had no idea that my hair could even look this good! Joel is so incredibly passionate about the work he does. I would trust him to do anything in the world to my hair. He is so meticulous and thorough. He listens to everything you have to say about your hair, and applies his wealth of experience to make it perfect! He loves his work and that shows on your head when you walk out that door. I was greeted with a warm cup of tea and wonderful conversation for the 3 hours we took to foil, wash, condition, base bump (a new experience for me!), wash, blow out and style again. As a recent graduate I definitely consider a visit to this salon a splurge, but honestly I don't know how I could see anyone else after the experience I had today. OMG I went in for a wash,cut & style and what I got was a wash a quick trim and barely what I consider a style...it was more of a put goop on it and on my way..all in 45-50 min for the TUNE of $75.00!! this was to be for my daughters WEDDING!! I went to Bilancio for the first time last week and was really impressed. I had forgotten how nice Aveda salons are! A head massage + relaxing shampoo and conditioning - ahhh...so relaxing. My stylist Kirsty was great. It was a wonderful experience and the prices are amazing - haircuts and blowdries start at $45 for women - awesome! The best part was actually that I went back to get something fixed a few days later. I've never done that before, but I wasn't quite happy with my layers (I have extremely fine, straight hair and it's easy for layers to look super choppy and chunky). Usually I just suck it up and resign myself to finding another stylist. But I really loved the salon, so I didn't want to do that. I called to see if Kirsty would blend them better. She was VERY accommodating and friendly about it. That made me love her even more - she completely understood that I needed to be happy with my cut and that she was still getting to know my hair. That was the extra step that made me definitely sure I'll be going back for my next cut. read more

Upon reading the Bilancio reviews here on Yelp, I decided to give it a shot. I'd been gettting my color done at DiPietro Todd on Post in SF ev3ry 3-4 weeks for 3 years. Due to the recent economic climate, I decided I needed to find a more reasonably priced salon. In desperate need of a haircut for my long layers, I called Nina, the owner at Bilancio. I'm always nervous about a new stylist, so I arrived early to look through magazines for some style ideas. While waiting for Nina to finish with her previous client I heard her talking color and began to realize that 'this chick knew what she was talking about!' I received a great cut with tips on how to properly blow-dry and was so happy that I went back a week later to have her do my color. We did a beautiful color to cover my incoming gray and some highlights which complement my skin tone. I was incredibly happy with my experience and happy to have a new stylist/colorist! Nina is very knowledgeable, has a great eye and truly cares about your experience. To top it all off, Bilancio is incredibly reasonable and you get the Aveda experience of aromatherapy, scalp massage and that soothing Comfort Tea all within a comfortable neighborhood location. They actually made me make an appointment to get my bangs trimmed. So I had to wait a day before they had an opening. I went there on my lunch hour, only to walk into a completely empty salon. The only people there were the stylist and the receptionist, and yet they still had me wait 10 mins before they started cutting. She literally did 3 snips to my bangs, and still didn't do what I really wanted... to add layers to it so it wasn't so top heavy. And to really piss me off... they charged me $10!! Seriously, I've never been to a high end... heck even a low end salon that charged for a bang trim. If anything, you'd give the stylist a $5-$10 tip and they'd win a future customer over. Not in this case, don't be fooled by the beauty of the interior of the salon. Now I understand why the place is empty. It's a matter of time before they go out of business. read more

Can I just start out by saying I love love love Lynsie at Bilancio? I have been down in Marin for just under 2 years and for the first year and half used to drive back and forth to Roseville (yep an hour and half) to go to the same woman I have gone to forever. She wasn't great but at least I knew what to expect, right? Then, a friend recommended Bilancio and I have been hooked ever since. I must admit that the original stylist who did my hair was good but when I got paired up with Lynsie after she left I knew I wasn't going to go anywhere else. People complement my hair all the time and each time Nina cuts it she improves on it just a little more. She remembers me and really cares that I love my hair. I recently moved to Marin and have been searching for a new hairdresser. I have very fine, straight hair, so it takes a special someone to make it work well. After getting a HORRIBLE haircut at another salon in the area right before leaving on an International trip I was searching for someone to fix it. I did a Yelp search (thanks to everyone who commented in the past - it is such a help) and found Bilancio Salon and called to make an appointment. Megan was able to squeeze me in before my departure date and did wonders. She took a haircut that looked like someone had butchered my hair and made it into a head of hair that was full of life and movement. It was terrific. I can not tell you how happy I was with the cut. I have been a client of Catherine's now for over a year and absolutely love my visits to Bilancio. I do get the usual cut and color, but I also get Keratin treatments every 4-5 months. I have always been completely satisfied by my cuts, everything from chopping off 6 inches, to a trim, to getting extra layers. Also, I have very thick hair and Cath cuts strips underneath my hair to take out some of the extra bulk. While it may seem scary, it makes a HUGE difference and I have never had a problem with them growing back out. I have also colored my hair a few times. Cath saved me from a horrible ombre and took all of my hair to a dark brown color. Recently, I got highlights around my face and love them. The color is really great and I won't have roots. They are prefectly placed. I also love my keratin treatments, couldn't live without them. While at other places, these treatments have taken 6 hours, Cath and her asistants work on my hair at the same time and I am out in under half that time. But more than anything, I really look forward to seeing Cath. She is a ton of fun, very experienced and personable. Even if she is completely swamped, you always leave feeling super special and taken care of. She also instills this in her assistants who are also amazing. Her current assistant, Devany (sp?) is a sweetheart. I hope she sticks around Bilancio afterwards. Can't recommend them more! read more

My third visit so I feel I can write a realistic review. You know things are great when the initial "honeymoon" phase is over, and still things are a dream. For starters I have been searching for over one year for a new hairdresser, and oh boy have I some stories to tell! Anyway there I was all disconsolate, feeling there was no-one for me and boom! A search on yelp led me to Nina, my luck was in, a client had just cancelled so I got an appt...yippee! Firstly the woman is a doll, friendly, professional, got the chair chat down and more to the point can cut hair. The second visit I had color done too, damn, she could color too! No orange or yellow in my blonde hair. I also appreciate Nina for her honesty, nothing worse than a disingenuous hairdresser in charge of your crowning glory. I've been to Nina twice and both times I've been very pleased with my haircut. The cuts look great and grow in very nicely. I used to live in San Francisco and I was a little nervous about leaving my salon there, but when we move to San Rafael, I gave them a shot. I actually like Nina better than the guy I'd been going to in San Francisco. I also appreciate that she stays on schedule which allows me to make my appointments mid day and know that I'll be in and out. She makes product suggestions, but I never feel like I'm getting that pushy up-sell you sometimes get at a salon. read more

Kristie is amazing!! Great cuts and very personable!! First time I went in I made a drastic change from waist length hair to a bob with bangs. She made me feel very comfortable and the results kept me coming back. And I love all of conversations every time I am in we pick right up where we left off the last time. She has even trimmed my daughter's hair for free!! The owner is very friendly as well is all of the staff. They have ran out to my car for me to put quarters in the meter so I wouldn't get a ticket. And they let me bring my 20 month daughter in with me and help entertain her while I am getting my hair cut. I recommend this place to everybody I talk to and those who have tried Bilancio have also been impressed. Nina is a gem, the salon is a delight!!! I wish this place had been open years ago (well, technically, it was a salon before, but there were different stylists, etc.). I went to a stylist at di Pietro Todd in Mill Valley for about 10 years. When he moved to open their salon in Walnut Creek about a year ago, I decided to find a salon closer to home. Went to see Nina at Bilancio, and I find that I get just as many positive comments about my hair as I did before. But it takes 15 minutes less to get to the salon, and it costs about 1/2 less than di Pietro Todd!!!! In short, great haircuts, great people at Bilancio (not just Nina), and a wonderful environment. I don't know what the spoiled brat who complained about waiting for her bang trim is smoking...but pay no attention to her. Check out Bilancio....you will be VERY PLEASED!!! read more

Just had a Keratin Smoothing treatment by Catherine. She is AMAZING! She brings so much experience to the table. My hair is naturally coarse and frizzy and difficult to manage. It takes me a solid hour from start to finish which is way too long for this mom of 3. After the Keratin my hair is so smooth and straight and MANAGEABLE! My hair took only 7 minutes to dry and only a few runs of a flat iron to make my hair just as smooth as when I left the salon. 15 minutes total from wet to perfection. Catherine also gave me the best hair cut of my life. I have long hair and I have never had a cut that I love so much.
