I had trouble with hard shifting on my rear derailleur on my Trek bike. I tried to fix it myself and misrouted the cable, making it worse. Trek bike fixed it while I waited and let me watch them so I could see the proper routing of the cables. They are the best!!! read more

I have been coming to Bilda Bike on King St. for maintenance on my Marin hybrid over the last three years (first couple of times were at the old location). On every visit, they have repaired the problem and have never tried to upsell me on some other aspect of the bike. The last visit has given me a reason to take the next step and write a comment as their customer service was outstanding. Through a mutual miscommunication, the wrong replacement tire was ordered and placed on my bike. I only noticed this about five weeks later, and went in hoping they might switch for the desired tire with some discount for the replacement. Dan, the owner of the shop apologized and went much further than I had expected in ensuring my satisfaction in the overall experience. In 2026, to have this kind of old school (i.e., proper) customer service is rather exceptional. This kind of service requires customer loyalty in response. I will always come to Dan for repairs and future purchases. I heartily recommend that anyone who needs bicycle repairs do the same. read more

I love my new bike! As with everything in my life, I do all the research before I make my purchases and I did the same with this. I recently moved to Park Circle and wanted to easily get around the neighborhood and get a little exercise on two wheels. I felt like I didn't need anything serious and contemplated picking something up inexpensively from a local big box store. I looked everywhere from online to Walmart, Target, Dicks Sporting Goods, and a handful of local shops as well. Everywhere I went, I kept comparing everything to the Swift 9 by Coast Cycles which is one of Affordabike's house brands. It's a lightweight city bike with 9 speeds and and great look. When I came in the first time, the staff listened to what my needs were and made some suggestions. I even took it for a spin around the block. Big box stores offer no help, and other shops I went to seemed rather indifferent unless I was laying cash on the table. I can tell you that if you want the most affordable option head to Wally World. They hands down have the widest selection of inexpensive bikes. You get what you pay for but sometimes you don't need much. Target didn't offer much and Dicks was just as expensive (if not more) than many of the local shops entry level bikes. At the end of the day, I knew the service was already superior at Affordabike. They also won my heart with the Swift 9. I like the look and style plus it had everything I was looking for and more. One of the biggest features is that they offer lifetime tuneups on all the bikes they sell which covers the additional cost over time. Although I could have bought three cheapo bikes at Walmart, I was looking for something with a quality build. I love the fact that they're a local company who takes care of their local customers. And going back to my first sentence... I love my bike! That makes me want to get on my bike more often because I'm excited to go for a ride. read more

It was humid and hot . My friend and decided to rent a tandem bike and ride across the Arthur Revanel Jr bridge. The Arthur Revanel Jr bridge is the longest cable stay bridge of its time in North America and the tallest structure in South Carolina. The most beautiful breathtaking view of the Cooper River. Great rental bike experience. We enjoyed using the bikes to explore a greater area of Charleston. The front baskets with their accompanying bungee style straps were easy to use and facilitated a safer ride. Customer service was always helpful and unfailingly polite. Bike parking concerns were low and preferable to car parking concerns. Traffic conditions always felt safe. Drivers never crowded us, sometimes waved us across a lane to be helpful, and always allowed us to merge into lanes. The 7 speed cruisers offered the perfect mix of stability and functionality (unlike a lot of clunky or heavy bikeshare options in other cities or rental kayaks). These bikes are not the equivalent of rental kayaks. read more

My wife and I visited Charleston for our anniversary and stayed about 5 minutes off of King Street. We decided to rent bicycles instead of walking or Ubering around Charleston. Every morning when we'd head to breakfast or to explore we'd say to each other how glad we were that we decided to rent bikes for the week. This is my bike shop in Charleston for service and repairs! The service is great with knowledgeable people that can explain anything to you about your bike and not make you feel incompetent. The shop recently got an updo to the service area with covering the area and adding windows and such for a more professional feel. They still did a great job without the updo as well. I've had my bikes serviced here a few times from an annual maintenance to chain replacement to brake cables to new tire and it all went along swimmingly. Their prices are reasonable and you know the estimate before your bike is serviced. If they find anything additional that may need to be fixed or replaced, they will give a call and ask if you would like it done. Check out Groupon as they had a coupon on there once. Never rented or bought a bike but people are always in and out so it must be a good experience as well. read more

Excellent customer service--especially from Hunter, David, and Jeff. I recently purchased a new cruiser from AB that after just a couple of rides, had consistent crank issues. After inspection, the team at AB discovered it was more than likely a faulty manufacturing issue (not common). While it was annoying--things happen. Instead of trading out the bike for the same model, Hunter gave me an upgraded model at no extra cost. He understood my frustrations and time spent going back and forth to the shop for issues on a brand new bike. The team at AB is friendly, prompt, and genuinely care about the customer experience. That morning we rented one of their red tandem two-seater bikes to use in our wedding "send off" later on that day at James Island County Park. BEWARE OF AFFORDABIKE! I brought my bike to them after $89 worth of repairs, they lost my bike lock. When I dropped off my bike, the lock was wrapped around the bike and when they gave it back to me, it wasn't there. I NICELY asked them if they could give me their cheapest lock in the store because I couldn't take my bike home without being able to lock it up and they told me that I lost my bike lock and they didn't, so they couldn't help me. They do not honor exchanges, and good luck if you should ever need a refund. This shop is unknowledgeable of real bicycle mechanics, cruisers are their thing. Recently had a great experience with this company. We were new to Charleston and wanted to use a faster transportation to see the town. Found this store online based off reviews and it didn't disappoint. We rented 1 adult bike, 1 kid bike and 1 double seater. All came with helmets and bike locks for $70 all day. This was a great deal especially comparing to their competitors nearby. Bikes were in good shape and worked fine. This review is a bit tough to write. Rented bikes to get around town during a recent stay. It took a while for my sister to get a decent bike where all the brakes and gears worked. We had baskets put on the bikes which one would thing would be helpful. They were not. They would not stay on, and fell off and jumped around the 2 days we used them. This was on normal, regular road. I mistakenly went over a tiny little bump in the street, and the thing flew off the bike, spilling its pieces and contents like a yard sale in the middle of a busy street. Thankfully, some carriage tour driver stopped traffic so I could retrieve all my bits. The person who rented us the bike also led us astray. She talked about going over the bridge into Sullivan's Island, and then mentioned a water taxi could get us back. We popped into the tourist office before heading out of town, and glad we did. There is no water taxi back from Sullivan's Island, only from Shem Creek or the other Point (can't remember name). And it's unclear as to whether bikes are allowed. She talked about riding over the bridge "nearly every day" yet the details she provided were so very incorrect. Riding over the bridge onto Sullivan's Island was great, don't get me wrong, and I'd do it again in a heartbeat (maybe I'd pay closer attention to the "pop up showers" forecasted and understand that in Charleston that means flash floods and downpours for hours..); however the info we were given was wrong and not trustworthy. I've rented bikes in other spots, and this place is sub-par. The staff could be friendlier, and definitely more knowledgeable. read more

By far the best bike shop I've been to! Having gone through college at CofC with unreliable Walmart bikes, I finally decided it was time to get a nicer big girl bike and did some shopping around for a while to make sure I made a good purchase. I stumbled upon their customizable beach cruisers and decided to go in and have a look. The staff was very friendly and walked me through the process of customizing my bike. They had a wide variety of upgrades and plenty of color options. The actual process was very user friendly and didn't take long at all. Once my bike was finished, I was able to grab a basket, lights, and a lock to accompany my new ride. Again, the staff was very friendly through this. I am so in love with my bildabike! After my mom saw it, she kept commenting on how nice it was and I eventually ended up getting her one as a gift in the inverse colors of mine. She says she rides it all the time and was so excited to receive it! Any time I've gone in with questions or basic repairs, the staff has been very accommodating. I recommend this shop to everybody looking for a bike! Plus, if you're lucky you'll get to see the two adorable dogs that sometimes hang out in the shop and they'll gladly come get some pets while you're shopping! read more
