This is my first yelp review but the service that Seaside Cycles provided me was so bad, I feel like I have a duty to warn others about this company. I rented 6 bikes for a week but we had to evacuate the island after 2.5 days due to hurricane Debby. Because of the chaos from leaving the island in a hurry, I contacted the Seaside Cycles the day after we left to get a partial refund on the bikes. The company was unresponsive to calls and texts for 4 days, and when they did finally respond, they denied my request for a partial refund. Instead, they informed me that their policy does not allow them to provide partial refunds, even for hurricanes. There are many options for bike rentals in Kiawah Island, find a different company. read more

Update: Boy, I wish I would have read through all of the Yelp reviews pertaining to this company- the majority of the negative ones deal with the nasty way in which the owners of Seaside Cycles treat their customers. It is hard to dispute the numerous reviews with the same complaint and definitely validate my own experience. In his response to my review, although his co-owner/wife was loud, rude and obnoxious, he was apparently most upset that I offended her delicate sensibilities when I uttered the 'F'' word in a moment of shock and dismay in response to the circumstances outlined in my initial review. While it was not my finest moment, I hardly think that this woman, with the way she speaks to people, has never driven another customer to 'cuss' if they too, were being bilked out of $1000.00. I would encourage readers to scroll through the negative customer service reviews. Others experienced the same thing I did. This company is terrible! They ripped me off saying their bike was stolen when they never delivered it! The office lady was rude and obnoxious with the mouth of a truck driver! They are scammers out to ruin your vacation by promising bikes they never deliver then they report them stolen!! read more

Two bikes delivered by 5pm on a Monday. On Tuesday morning when we took them out for a long ride we realized one was not super functional--the chain slipped off the back gear, but I was able to get it back on with some difficulty--and I texted the help line as requested in the reservation. No response. On a shorter Wednesday morning ride the chain completely fell off the non-functional bike. I called and requested a partial refund and a bike replacement, was assured both would happen. The person I called also had me read back the phone number I texted and confirmed it was the correct number--they expressed surprise that the text line had not worked and that they had not received the message. The new bike arrived in the afternoon on Wednesday. We did not see a refund Thursday, so I called again to ask when we could expect it and was told that the person who handled refunds was out until the following Monday. That was Thursday the 10th and we have yet to see any refund. Two stars because once we did get functional bikes, they were nice, but we lost so much time that was meant to be biking together and paid a lot of money to just sit and stare at the bikes instead. read more

We rented four bicycles the week of 8/13. When dropped off, one bike has a seat that was set at a height suitable for an NBA player. We tried to adjust it - the seat has a quick release but the post was jammed. A second bike had the chain come off twice. Each time the owner sent a new bike but the delivery people thought it was funny when they saw the broken bike and my grease stained hands - very rude. And needless to say, if you are going to rent bikes there should be some basic checks to make sure they are in reasonable order - no one is riding the Tour de France but you shouldn't be renting out junk. Too much trouble for a short term rental when you are supposed to be on vacation. Find a different rental place that doesn't rent out junk.' And it is not like it is cheap to rent. read more

The maintenance on bikes was lacking. Chains needed cleaning/lubrication, alignment of handlebars and seats were not straight. Some bikes had adjustable quick release seat post clamps and some did not. I would suggest bringing your own basic set of tools to include Hex/Allen wrenches for the necessary adjustments. I asked an associate of seaside (delivery person) for a tool and was told they could not provide a tool. The tandem bike we ordered had a severely bent rear wheel that wobbled when riding and a loose seat that would creep around and wiggle. The bent wheel was bad enough to be seen when unloading bike for delivery. On the second day the bike was replaced after I had made another delivery person aware of the issue. Bikes are a great addition to your stay to enjoy and get around to the fun places. my recommendation would be to specifically ask for well maintained/serviced bikes and for staff to offer adjustments to other customers as they making daily deliveries to most places. I feel the selection and availability were good and pricing was fair. read more

I have been coming to Kiawah Island since 1994 and for those of you who have not been, it is a necessity and a treat to have a good cruising bike. Trying out several companies in the area, I must share that Seaside always provides a well-tuned bike that is waiting for my family and I when we arrive. DO NOT USE THEM!!!! The customer service is terrible and the bikes were in bad shape. They delivered the wrong size bike and charged us for it. When I called, the owner was very difficult to deal with and would not fully refund us for the wrong bike delivered. I'm addition, the wheel on child cart attachment for the adult bike was wobbly and could have seriously injured my children. When I brought this up to her, she didn't care. Just got back from Seabrook. Seaside was great. Ordered 4 bikes and a cargo cart and they were already delivered when we got there. Top quality equipment. No add on fees for extras like baskets like some companies charge. Ordered from Jackie over the phone and everything went smooth. Had a small issue with one of the bikes ( mechanical ). I rented 5 bikes for 6 days, through yesterday, November 30. The first time we all rode them, one of the chains came off 4 times. I called, got a voice message prior to 5 pm, that they were closed, and since it was the day before Thanksgiving, I followed their instructions. left a message, and also texted the number which was given on their voicemail. I never heard back.....no acknowledgement at all. Needless to say, I would not use this company again! They easily could have come and changed out the bike, but they never even gave the courtesy of a call back or text. read more

The price and ease of ordering were good. The bicycles came only after I contacted the shop and way after 5 pm. We paid for 7 days but were going to hold them for 5 days only. We stayed a day extra. So, I called the shop early in the morning to extend the use for 1 more day. They said: no problem BUT still picked the bikes up by 11 am (which I find amazing given that they dropped them after 6 pm.) I called them back & they promised to bring the bikes back. Started out pretty satisfied, reserved bike over phone for a holiday weekend. Received confirmation of order, text message the morning my bike was dropped off at the hotel with detailed easy instructions with bike number and lock code and location. Bike was fine, definitely not brand new but wasn't looking for that just wanted a bike to ride around town for the weekend and it was totally sufficient. The problem started when I went to grab my bike the next morning and it was not where I left it. It took me awhile but finally located it in another spot locked up to other bikes. It was a busy holiday weekend, there were about 20 of the same bike with the same lock from this company on the bike rack, only way to tell which was your bike was by the bike number. I then realized that they give everyone the same combination for the lock! So you could have taken any bike from that company if you had the code, So basically someone either purposefully or mistakenly took my bike and used it and then locked it back up with their groups bike. I was able to use my bike then but later that night when I went to get it, it was gone. So I basically paid $48 for two days to share a bike with someone and had to keep checking if it was there or not. I called and left the company a message but never heard back. No excuse for that, the bike locks should all have unique codes. read more

The funny thing is we had used them before probably ten times.. but this time was different. Our villa was cancelled on us at the last minute due to COVID 19. I contacted them several times by email, by text and leaving message. I told them they could charge us for the day (12 bikes) but we no longer needed them for the week. THEY NEVER CONTACTED ME BACK! We rented a Burley through Seaside Cycles during a recent trip to Kiawah Island. We visit Kiawah often and always rent through Alligator. This time, however, we waited too long to make our reservation and regretted it. Alligator had no trailers left for the week of our visit, so I called Seaside. They had one available, and we discussed the price listed on their website. However, they ended up charging me $12 more than the listed price before tax. I emailed them and left a message but never heard back. We can eat the $12, but it certainly doesn't feel very ethical. I'll make sure to plan further in advance going forward. I did give 2 stars because the trailer was in okay shape and worked fine for us during the week. Customer service from the get-go, however, did not feel very friendly. read more

These guys were great. I called a couple of days befor we left for our vacation to rent two adult tricycles for my in-laws. They said it would be at the cottage when we get there. I was skeptical. But, when we got there after a very long drive, there they were. Two almost brand new, oiled, tured, and ready bikes to ride on. On top of it all, it was the lowest rate around. Seaside Cycles does not have a focus whatsoever on the customer. They picked the bikes up a day early. I called to report the bikes stolen and they finally said that they had already picked the bikes up. I asked why they had done so more than a day earlier than my rental end date and I got "human error" as a reply. I asked that the human return the bikes so I could use them for another 36 hours. They reluctantly did so, yet didn't offer me any reimbursement for the half day they took them, and then took them again then next day before 9AM on my last rental day. You can essentially count on not having bikes the first and last day of your rental (or more) with Seaside Cycles. read more

After one of our bikes broke down, we called them and asked for some reimbursement (or really even just an apology), and they never responded. The bikes were worn down, rusted, and as I said, one of them even broke down. Prices were also much higher. They sounded friendly on the phone but failed with products and customer service. I have rented from this company several times and there have been some hiccups in the past but this time took the cake../brought a baby seat that was basically falling off the bike, no helmet for the child after I had one requested, wrong bike #s, and rusty bikes. I called about the issue and they were going to bring out a new bike for the baby and a helmet. Day 3 still nothing different, called again and they said oh he came by and tightened the seat (no change) and oh I guess he didn't have a helmet sorry. This is unacceptable to not be able to use the bikes for 3 days so the company agreed to give me a refund thankfully and come pick up their bikes. The owner of Alligator Bikes referred us to Seaside as we forgot to rent bikes until our arrival. He stated the owner was incredibly nice and the closest to Kiawah / Seabrook. We rented one adult bike w/ the child seat and one bike w/ the Burley trailer. Our children loved the bikes. They were in good condition considering they're rentals at the beach. All bikes will show wear under those conditions. Easy to rent. read more

NEVER DO BUSINESS WITH THESE CROOKS !!! We rented from them several times in the past and were always pleased with their bikes & price. However, this year we sent them a request for 5 bikes for Spring Break 2014 months in advance, but never heard anything back from them about the reservation. On April 1, 2014 I called their business number to make sure they received our reservation - the phone line said "the number you have called is disconnected or no longer in service". We thought "wow - that's too bad they were a good company". We had to book with another company because our trip was only 4 days away. We found another company online and they immediately confirmed our reservation and charged our credit card. Then we showed up on Kiawah Island yesterday and found Seaside had delivered the 5 bikes without any notice or confirmation. I double checked the call detail on my cell of the call I had made on 4/1/14 and it was the same number listed on the contract they left. I immediately called the number on 4/5/14 and to my surprise someone answered this time. He could not give me an explanation about why the phone said disconnected, and he said they confirmed the reservation via telephone a day or two after the order was placed but he "would have to check their phone log". WE NEVER GOT SUCH A CALL!! I offered to pay a "small" delivery charge for their trouble, but I was told I would have to pay a one-day rental fee of $18.95 per bike. Are you kidding me - the rental fee for a whole week was $32.95 per bike!!! WHAT HAPPENED TO THEIR GREAT CUSTOMER SERVICE?? We were charged $97.00 and never even unlocked the bikes!!! 5/1/14 Update - We immediately disputed the charges on our credit card, and our credit card company ruled in our favor and reversed the charges to SS Cycles. Now Seaside Cycles is trying to charge our credit card $50.00 for nothing. ARE YOU KIDDING ME? read more
