Hands down one of the cleanest, most convenient parks in the Irvine area! There are several baseball fields, tons of gated tennis courts, playgrounds for the kids, countless picnic areas that are numbered for parties and gatherings. I think what makes this park stand out is the crowd. Any park can be beautiful but, without the proper maintenance from the park crew (and most importantly the park goers) it doesn't stand a chance. You see tons of regulars here with their dogs, families, kids. Everyone is friendly and respectful of one another. The dog crowd at this park is also one of the best I've seen. Although the park is not off leash, there's wide open areas for you to allow your fur family to play catch, run around, and have a bit of freedom! They do have a couple of posts that have doggie bags however, they run out quick so please do come prepared with your own poop bags just in case! There are plenty of water fountains throughout with water filling stations attached, so don't forget a bowl for your fur family!! read more

The park is located on Harvard Ave just next to the Irvine Civic Center. There are plenty of parking spaces around the park area. We visited there on a Saturday around noon. There were quite a few cars in the lot already. However, we didn't see a lot of people milling around as the park covers quite an extensive area. The park features a flower garden with a fountain near its center. Beyond that are several picnic shelters amidst an elaborate children's playground. Further on, there is a large expanse of grass area amidst soccer fields, base ball diamond and tennis courts. There are paved walk paths through out the complex that winds up and down the various terrains. Overall it's a nice place to enjoy a leisure walk! read more

Okay, Derek W, this one's for YOU - although not as thoroughly documented. You win THAT hands down! What a LOVELY Memorial community park! This park epitomizes Irvine's commitment to family spaces and community celebrations. Just the weekend before was the large, annual Memorial Day celebration and service for those who served in the US military. Some areas were still marked off, so we could see how large that event is and judging by the size of this park, it could well handle all who attended. On this day, there were many families enjoying the kid friendly play areas, a church group holding services under one of the many picnic shelters, another small group enjoying Tai Chi, a couple taking - I'll assume - engagement photos in the Formal Garden and fountain area, as well as others relaxing under trees and jogging along the winding paths. There are 3 massive fields conformed for baseball as well as soccer, and a forth, the Deanna Manning Stadium softball field, which is even larger than any of the other 3 fields and has it's own designated entry. Even batting cage areas! 6 courts - I'll presume for either tennis or pickle ball, the current rage, and plans for a future gymnasium, and community center. Additionally, there are open play areas, "informal gardens" and rock + water feature. The park runs along the San Diego Creek Channel with TONS of parking and so much to see and do! We pulled in looking for a restroom - lots of those too! - and stayed longer, exploring just the elevated Memorial Wall, Amphitheater, Formal Garden and 2 kid play areas. What can I say, I'm a sucker for elevated walkways and splash pads - don't judge! I come to this park often to run or walk, and it's become one of my favorite places to get some fresh air. There are plenty of wide, well-maintained paths throughout the park itself, so you can easily choose shorter or longer loops depending on your mood. If you're looking for more distance, the bike trail that runs alongside the park is a huge bonus--it stretches for miles and is great for anyone who wants a longer, uninterrupted route. I regularly see a steady mix of runners, walkers, and cyclists using both the park paths and the trail, which makes the area feel active but never overcrowded. Besides being a great spot for exercise, the park is also surprisingly popular for photos. I often see families and groups here taking Sweet 16, quinceañera, and other special-occasion pictures. There are several really charming areas with greenery, trees, and open fields that make for beautiful backdrops. Overall, it's a versatile park--peaceful enough for a casual stroll, spacious enough for a long workout, and scenic enough for a photoshoot. Highly recommend spending some time here. read more

This is another beautiful park in Irvine. It's a memorial park for Bill Barber a fallen U.S. Marine. There's a section with a flag and names of other fallen heroes that served our great country. This park has tennis courts, baseball fields, several areas with picnic tables and BBQ's, a beautiful fountain, large play area for the kids, ant walking paths. There's plenty of grass areas. If you have a large group and want to picnic, don't forget to get a permit with the city so you don't get bumped out. If you're on the San Diego, or Peter's Canyon trail be sure to stop to refill your water bottles, and use the restroom. read more

Bill Barber is a great park to walk. There are multiple baseball fields, tennis courts, and picnic areas around the park where you can have parties and gatherings. There is also a large playground at the park where you can bring your kids. A lot of people start here to go cycling down the Santa Ana River Trail. This is a great place to bring your dog as well. I've been to this park a few times before, way long ago! Since moving to Irvine, I started going to this park more often, especially since they have four Pokemon gyms there, making it a great place for raid days. The park itself is well maintained, and is super large! It looks like there are barbecue areas, a bunch of benches, tennis courts, soccer fields, and a fountain. I know during prom season, lots of students will use this park as a backdrop for their photos. This park is also dog-friendly, so you can bring your pup for a walk. Ahh, Bill Barber Community Park is another one of the best in South Orange County area. Me and my girlfriend love this park too. We come out here to take walks and pic nic at least once a month. I live not very far from here, so I like to jog and walk around this beautiful spot as well. We play a little tennis here too. Its a nice family atmosphere full of gardens and nature. Bill Barber Community Park spans 42 acres and has plenty of space for all kinds of activities. It's named after Colonel Bill Barber who fought in World War II, Korean War, and Vietnam War among others. He accumulated many awards during his years of service (such as the Medal of Honor) and lived in Irvine until he passed. This park has multiple parking lots with ample parking, many baseball fields (including the Deanna Manning Stadium), soccer fields, tennis courts, kids play areas, and restrooms throughout. It has a garden area with a fountain which make for a nice backdrop for graduation pictures. Certain facilities at the park can be reserved for a fee including their four picnic areas and the amphitheater. From family and friends hang out, picnic, birthday parties, etc. to just strolling, this park is equip with everything you need. They have beautiful paths with flowers and plants, several big picnic shelters, enchanting water fountains, cute playground and awesome baseball/softball field and tennis court that you can enjoy. If you're a Pokemon Go fan, many gyms, poke stops and pokemons are waiting for you. It has numerous routes that you can follow and collect those Zygarde cells as many as you want. I can also see this place as a gorgeous engagement, graduation, maternity, etc. photography spot. Any where you stand, it feels like a movie set. You don't really need a lot of prop or equipment to capture the perfect moment because the place itself is perfect. If you forgot to bring your water with you after a long walk, nothing to worry since they have a place to fill up your water bottle and to take a sip. There is also a vending machine with different bottles of water and sports drinks. Another great thing about this park is that it is located right across the Irvine Police Department so it is safe. read more

It was such an honor to spend some time in this park named for an American War Hero. And this is a LARGE park with tons of places to go. It's also at the cross-roads of the two longest bike paths in Irvine and OC. 2 Giant parking lots--even with a full park there were so many free spaces available. I saw so many families hanging out here last Sunday. But it's an old park and the bathrooms in this park need an Irvine "Makeover." What I mean is that in Irvine's newest parks built in the last 5 years they have the type of fixtures that you would normally find in a home--or an upscale hotel. Most of those park bathrooms are nicer than your bathroom at home. But this park has the old metal smelly fixtures that don't flush right and you worry that you will get a disease just by being near. I say: Irvine, modernize the restrooms! Maybe even employ people inside to clean after every park goer goes. Someone to hand you a towel after you wash your hands. Located off Harvard and San Juan across the San Leon apartment homes, on a tree line street so well kept and hidden somewhat Baseball fields Soccer field Plenty of tennis courts San Diego creek trail for hiking running jogging walking and dog walking - certainly stroller friendly! Free parking lots and no entrance fee Plenty of doggy bay stations Lots of greenery so clean and bright Hydration stations (water fountains and for bottles) Plenty of trash cans Open spacious pathways Picnic tables throughout along with bench sitting Restrooms spaces throughout the park I parked off San Juan and Harvard and if you keep following the pathway the irvine civic center light take you to the cityhall and police station area - so many trees and flowers so neat and tidy Super dog friendly and kid friendly! There are 2 large playgrounds that looks so fun I would want to run around it hah There are little monuments If look closely enough that are dedicated to different individuals in the armed forces. Such a big park that's easily located, and accessible for sports, picnics, family gatherings and a playground for kids. This is located right by the civic center in Irvine which feels super safe, since the police station is also right there. I love all the grass fields and how clean the city has kept it maintained. There is 2 large parking lots that you can use, so no worries about street parking. read more

Nice park...nice softball fields...but park staff thought it would be ok to lock up the restrooms halfway through our girl's softball games for really no reason... Park staff were in the office seeming to have a good 'ole time and probably thought it was funny when I asked if they could unlock the facilities. They certainly acted and interfaced with me in a very rude manner...and insisted they were unlocked with the typical smirk on their face...shameful. I am disabled...handicapped...let that sink in for a moment...I need unfettered access to restrooms at city facilities. I suggest...City of Irvine and park staff...that you don't play games and make sure things run smooth when folks are spending a ton of money to use your sports parks...just a suggestion. read more

Well maintained greens, serene location for reflections or a stroll, easy parking. There's a walkway around the grounds which is stroller friendly. There are a couple of fountains and benches which are perfect for relaxation as well as photo ops. Enjoyable walk with the kids. There were joggers and cyclists sharing the path. Started coming here a couple of weeks ago to watch our fellow Yelper Craig play slow-pitch softball. The first time, I parked in the lot over by the playground, that was a very long walk to the softball fields. The next time, I parked by the main softball field. This park is very clean and well kept. Most likely because it sits right next to Irvine Civic Center or the City Of Irvine PD. As we know, Irvine is Newport Beach junior, so it maintains a very well kept park. There is ample parking and many things to do here recreationally. Bill Barber Memorial Park is another one of Irvine's 268 park system. It is directly adjacent to Irvine City Hall/ Civic center. It is the location of many Annual festivals and cultural events. It has baseball fields, softball field, soccer, vast open space, kids play equipment with individual areas for swings and climbing structures. There are all the peripheral things necessary for picnicking such as grills, tables, seating areas, concessions stands for during the many sporting tournaments etc. There's also a dog training course courtesy of the Irvine Police department, on the far side of the parking lots next to the left field entrance to Debbra Manning softball field. On a daily basis, many people find this a quiet place to exercise with a walk, or just relax and contemplate the day by a beautiful waterfall on a secluded bench. There is also a building for Irvine's child development center and it's incredibly beautiful as well. It is a perfect place to take the kids for their extra curricular activities and fun community classes. I highly recommend just spending an hour walking around and taking it all in. I like this park! Located near city hall it has something for everyone. I enjoy using to relax by taking morning and afternoon walks while taking a break from work. The park is enormous with several fields for baseball, soccer and other field sports, tennis courts, many paths for walking, a play area for the kids, enclosures for organized events, lot of little sitting areas, gardens and plenty of restrooms. The park is always clean and well maintained. Workers can be seen daily cutting the grass, cleaning the enclosures and restroom and making sure the many trash cans are empty. There are plenty on benches throughout to sit enjoy the sun, watch the activities and just relax. This is a nice place. read more

This is what I like: Big enough parking lot 25 Poke Stops and 3 gyms (connected to the Civic Center) Crazy Green grass throughout Public bathrooms that has a soap dispenser and paper towels (Unheard of !) Playground in the middle for kids (So no one can steal your kids) Playground connected to other playgrounds Playground that actually have seating for parents Playground that has sand. (Okay, that might not be good for some) Playground has an upper level to see and find your lost kid Playground has a fun plastic tire swing Lots of Gazebos that has AC Large regulation soccer area No basketball courts Great jogging area And probably one of the cleanest park I've ever seen. Just in: They're putting in seats as of today for one of the baseball diamonds, behind the catcher. Seats are just like what you would sit on if you were watching a baseball game. read more

Who is Bill Barber? It's not the name of a men's salon. He was a war hero, and as the British say, "It's good on ya" to Irvine for honoring his memory with a large, beautiful, and awesome park. Of course, there is also a Bill Barber, a former NHL star for the Philadelphia Flyers and there is an ice rink on the north end of the property. This park is totally Irvine, and I mean that in a good way. Clean, safe, more grass and trees than all of Santa Ana (just kidding, I think), and an ample clean parking lot. multi-ethnic families with kids here. Not a single gang banger in the hundred of so times I've been here, though I hear there are gangs in Irvine. But their lawyers or truant officers probably live nearby and keep those boys away. And there are lots of bicycle riders who park their cars here and bike the trails day and night. As others have said, the bathrooms are clean for a park, and the lighting is good for most of the sports played. Anyway, I am reviewing this park mainly from the point of view of a tennis player. During the day, they have a great tennis facility, so much so that most people, though they could afford it, don't even think about getting a tennis membership at Racquet Club of Irvine - if they just want to play tennis. (FYI, RCI has a pool, locker room, social activities, etc. and is a good place to network if you're a salesman, lawyer, or funeral director). There are certified tennis instructors and tennis camps throughout the year, and lots of tournaments. Most of the time, though, it's for anyone to play. Many props to Irvine for keeping this sport a high priority. But at night, these are my least favorite tennis courts in all of the Irvine locations. There are six courts, two of them are awesome - the largestadium court with seating and the instructional court. The one that stands by itself near the parking lot is decent, too. The remaining courts are tough to play in if you have night blindness, and every once in a while, one of the lights doesn't get replaced for awhile. Then it feels like you're in da hood. And if someone misses a shot, they can look at the lights and say, "that's why I missed that shot". You need excuses if you're playing league and you lose the entire match due to one critical point. LOL Real tennis players follow the rules for getting a court. Put your name on the list if the courts are busy. People are pretty good about not playing over their allotted time, one hour for singles and one and a half for doubles. Once in a while, an idiot will just keep playing but just stare at them long enough, and they'll usually leave. Those are the times I wish my Samoan relatives were here visiting me. Overall, for free tennis courts, like most of Irvine's tennis courts and trophy wives, they're well taken care of. read more
