Don't trust this place! This resort states it has a flexible cancelation policy, but it does not. When I called months in advance to change a reservation (their policy only required 14 days for a refund minus a $75 fee), they stated they would refund the deposit of several hundred dollars. Then they refused to do so and made up a bunch of lies and excuses that weren't in the policy or communicated to me. read more

Do Not Book Here, Do Not Work Here. I wish I could try to make this review short and sweet, but that would be incredibly difficult considering all the factors that drove me to write it. For people looking to book with Bill Cody Ranch - just don't. Their horses are overworked, ornery, and medically neglected. This has lead to many nearly life-threatening incidents for both guests and horses. Every single day, someone gets hurt. One lady got bucked off so hard, she was left immobile and had to stay on the mountain for hours after dark before search and rescue along with paramedics could reach her. It took them 4 hours to get her on a stretcher due to speculated spinal/neck injuries. In addition to BCR's hidden danger, it's incredibly unsanitary. The servers hand-wash dirty dishes themselves in the middle of serving and do not wash the comforters in the cabins, only spray febreeze on them. How do I know all this? I worked there this past summer. If you're considering a job at Bill Cody Ranch, please read through my experience and do some more considering. If you're considering booking with Bill Cody, please read the paragraph above again and/or stay tuned for a wild ride. Seasonal work can be incredibly rewarding, and sometimes even life changing. Wyoming is beautiful, and the location of Bill Cody is almost perfect for exploring Cody as well as the general Yellowstone area. Given this, however, the ranch is a total shit show. All of us staff were told similar things upon hiring. They said that the job position was to "serve tables and do a little cleaning on the side". We were also told we'd get some good wrangling opportunity. Boy, were those lies. Management consists of one primadonna dude named John and his insufferable female friend named Andy. Their favorite past time was to pit employees against each other and mistreat cabin staff specifically. To give you a better picture of this, we were purposely left out of employee dinners, publicly criticized, and Andy would frequently partake in gossip with wrangler employees - to the point where they felt comfortable creating needless drama and being disrespectful to us as well. The majority of interactions we had with Andy were incredibly hostile and disrespectful from her end. To be corrected on your work is perfectly normal, but to be berated, talked down on, and given such a nasty attitude about even basic questions, is quite another. Even when we walked into a room, she and the wrangler employees would go quiet. It was clear that we were not welcome in our own place of work. Where was John in all this? He was mostly managing wranglers, but was keenly aware of the clearly targeted and disparate treatment we were given. He is friends with Andy and seemed to have no issue with all this. On top of a deeply hostile work environment, our pay was shit ($3-5/hr when you break it down) and our work load was nuts. We'd work from 6:30am-10:30pm with 3 optional 30min breaks, 5 days a week. We were not prepared for these hours. There were 5 of us and 16 cabins to clean. Typically there'd be 3 of us on, and 6-10 cabins to clean a day. Also, just to let you know, we were instructed to spray febreeze on the comforters and not to wash them. Because laundry, toilet scrubbing, vacuuming, window washing, kitchen cleaning, LINTROLLING FLOORTILES, mopping, and replacing guest supplies (etc, etc) took so long, we didn't have time to do it out of the kindness of our hearts either. I am truly sorry to everyone who stayed there this summer. So, imagine, you're stuck on a ranch with no phone service and hardly any wifi (which they would turn off if they felt like punishing us), you're scrubbing toilets for 10/12 hours, and your bosses and coworkers basically hate you for reasons unbeknownst to you. That is what it's like to work at at Bill Cody Ranch. (FYI, after we ALL quit, they ignored our phone calls and purposely delayed sending our final checks for weeks, under the guise of "not having mailing info" and other phony reasons just to be assholes) read more

This review is for both the Ranch (as a place to stay) and for the restaurant inside. First, make sure your gps is loaded before you go to Yellowstone and then try to find the ranch. We didn't, and if my daughter hadn't noted the sign as we passed it, we would have drive another 30 minutes into Cody, and then had to backtrack in the dark! It has cute cabins and horse back rides and more. Because we were on a cross country trek and spent the day in Yellowstone and had to make it to Sioux Falls by the next day, we couldn't enjoy any of those amenities. Next time, if we were to spend more time in Yellowstone, it would be a great place to spend more time. The dinner was good if simple, but cheap! We had rib eye and a bison burger. We went early to have breakfast before horseback ride started at 9 AM. Basic breakfast. We asked if they would have water for us on the trail. Never got one. We all got on the horses I asked for water five different times for before lunch nobody would respond . My horse and my boyfriends horse was very stubborn think god we have rode throughout our life. Finally 2 1/2 hours into the ride we all got one bottle of water with lunch out on the trails . I asked her what times if we could stop and take pictures of us on the horses she never responded. She just kept going . They never gave us any history of the trails or any other surrounding areas. They were pretty expensive for a four hour horseback ride with lunch. The trails were super steep if you're afraid of heights, would not recommend it. read more

This place hands down has the best burgers that we experienced during our vacation to Yellowstone. We didn't realize that they only served dinner between 6pm-8pm but it was worth the half hour wait as we had a cocktail at their bar where I experienced my first huckleberry lemonade - delish! If they aren't going to adhere to ada regulations, they should post that on their website. Saying no pets allowed isn't the same as saying we don't allow your certified service animal that is trained to help save your life. I'm thankful I found a hotel to stay in with no notice. However the disappointment in my kids eyes that they couldn't go horse back riding, something they needed, do to a very emotional move from one side of the country to the other, I was not thankful of. And booking last minute riding in the beginning of summer was nonexistent. Oh I was told I could keep my service animal out in my car all day and night for the two days I reserved! During summer! We have had an incredible time at Bill Cody Ranch. The cabins are cozy, comfortable and very clean--look just like the photos on the website. Everyone of the staff have been friendly and helpful--incredible service from start to finish. We tried a few restaurants in town, but the breakfast and dinner in the restaurant at the ranch were the best meals of the trip. The highlight of our entire Wyoming vacation was the four hour Clock Tower Trail Ride through the Shoshone National Forest. Our wrangler, Jackson, was a fantastic guide and host. He grilled us delicious burgers mid-ride for a picnic lunch by the river and was great with all the guests and horses. Gorgeous views of mountains, fields full of wildflowers, and beautiful horses who were well trained for the day. Highly recommend adding a stay at Bill Cody Ranch to anyone planning to visit Yellowstone. Truly a getaway from hectic daily life and a place to make family memories for a lifetime! read more

Bill Cody Ranch is THE ranch to visit when coming to Wyoming. I've been an employee for a little over a month, and the ranch owners have been nothing but motivating and compassionate towards their employees. It's definitely a fast pace job but with tourists from everywhere in the world, it's to be expected. Even our chef is absolutely phenomenal with his cooking, he takes pride in making it the best and getting it out in a timely manner. And his famous cheesecake is to die for (which is worth the trip in itself!). The amount of care and passion they put into the cabins, staff, and horses is unbelievable. It is undeniably one of the best experiences I have done in my lifetime so far. The view from the horse trails is absolutely breathtaking, not to mention the view when you step out of your cabin. Definitely worth the trip to Wyoming, especially if you're on your way to Yellowstone. read more

This location is beautiful. You would never know it was there because it is set back from the highway. The cabins are surrounded by trees so there is great coverage from the heat during the day. I went with my husband but I can see where this would be ideal for families or groups of people. The riding trail is really pretty and (again) covered by the trees. The prices to ride are really reasonable. In my opinion, it's a no brainer....totally worth it! It's truly a family run business. The son and both his parents were hands on, as well as their two mascots, the pups, greeting all who walk in. The staff is very friendly. (Remember to tip the wranglers and staff. They are hardworking.) The food was tasty and there was more than enough. It took a while for the food to come out but I think it's because they were just opening up from Covid and they were short handed. I have no doubt they've gotten that worked out by now. It's definitely a great place to hangout, relax and unplug. I would definitely go back! Keep it up Bill Cody Ranch! We had a wonderful time. read more

Our guide MacKenzie for our horse back ride into the mountain was fantastic...great knowledge and great personality. Not to mention the views are breathtaking. Well worth the money! ADA Discrimination! If you have a disability or travel with a service dog, expect to be booted! We checked in, reminding the young gent at check in that we have a service dog. We went to the room (different from the Booking.com description but still acceptable). We showered and got ready for dinner, looking forward to a nice meal at the lodge. Once we entered the lodge, I stayed in the main entrance with my service dog to not be in the way while my husband tried to flag someone down to figure out how to secure a table. This is standard procedure for us. We waited 10 minutes without being acknowledged by anyone. Finally my husband speaks to someone at the front desk. He comes back to tell me nobody has a clue or cares. He goes back again to ask if we can have drinks while waiting. At that point I decide to join the discussion at the front desk. I am immediately harassed by a women who turned out to be the owner. She raises her voice and interrupts me while yelling at me that she has rights and doesn't allow pets because they do their business on her carpet, throw up, pee, etc. I continue to try and explain that my dog is not a pet but a service dog (he is wearing a red service dog vest!) and that there are laws in place she has to comply with. She continues yelling that she has rights. She loudly claims that I am sick, and that I have to provide proof and papers allowing me to have this dog and I am required to show them to her. I continue to calmly advise her that this is not true and that she should do a quick google search to inform herself. I even volunteer the reason why I have a service dog and what his job is, all things that are beyond what a business owner is allowed to ask for. The whole dining room is witnessing this discussion. Her husband, who appeared like a nice gentleman, was trying to calm her down with no success. She insults me multiple times while kicking us out of the property. Upon our departure 5 minutes later she returns to apologize since she finally researched ADA laws and begs us to stay. Too little too late...No Thanks! read more

We took the 2 hour 8.30am trail ride and we had a blast. The scenery is spectacular and I had a horse named Alpine who was just the sweetest. The ranch is only 30 minutes from Cody and it's on the way to Yellowstone. For $55 a person it was well worth it. Our tour guide could have been a little more knowledgable on the surrounding area but it didn't affect our ride. We would definitely come back and are considering staying in a cabin next year! read more

She says: We stayed at the Bill Cody Ranch en route to Yellowstone. The Ranch was tucked away beside a ravine, in a foresty, calm area. We booked a small cabin, which was clean and beautiful -- the decor was done in a cozy country style. There were wooden chairs on the porch where we could lounge. The staff members at the ranch were all friendly and helpful. There were families making s'mores around the campfire in the public area when we arrived, and wi-fi was available in the public areas. The breakfast, which was not included, was served restaurant-style in their dining room. I enjoyed a hearty oatmeal. After breakfast, we walked down to the ranch area, where we saw their many gorgeous horses and saw some families take off on a horseback riding tour. He says: Very tranquil place, tucked away off the road a bit. I wish we could have stayed longer, to be honest. It was a beautiful location and I loved the room. It was spacious and everything was all wood (think "log cabin" style). The bed was very comfortable also. For a reasonable additional fee, you could add horseback trail rides and lessons while you were at the ranch. While I'm not big on horse riding, I would have given it a shot if I were there longer. It was still fun to go down to the stables and see the horses. It's also in a great location for driving into Yellowstone. It's one of the closest places to the east gate. It's a too far to conveniently do a day trip to the geyser region though (e.g. Old Faithful), unless you want to start early in the morning. However, you can get some great views not far into the park and access the lake pretty easily. read more

Wow. I was able to book a cabin for 2, 2 weeks before we went on August long weekend. It is located between Cody, WY and Yellowstone and the drive is stunning. The ranch is tucked into the trees and "mountains" and is very private. 17 small cabins, located right on a creek. The staff are very friendly and treat you like family. The food was great in their dining room and the saloon bar was small and absolutely adorable and had a patio outside. There are places to walk along the creek and your able to visit the horses anytime. We did the 2 hour trail ride and the views were outstanding. We paid $160 per night in the Bill Cody Cabin, and that was half the price of any hotel located in Yellowstone. Very rustic and country with no TV or phones. The beds are SO comfortable and I had amazing peaceful sleeps both nights. There are also horseshoe pits and fake calf roping activities. They do bonfires each night and roast smores for all the guests. We will be going back again. read more

We did the 2 hour trail ride at 12:30. We had Veronica and Kristy as wranglers. My family of 5 (Dad, Mom, and 3 boys (14,11,11) booked just a day in advance and they were very accommodating. The wranglers were awesome and the ride was great. Back through the trees and creeks and small changes of elevation. It was really funa ND the horses were well trained with very calm temperaments. We rode Bo, Hitch, Nivk, Bryan, Goober. We would highly recommend this trail ride for families for sure. read more

"Do you have a place for two for tonight?" "Yes sir. Will one King with an attached bath be suitible?" "Sure will." Completed the booking, provided my name and phone number. Toured around Yellowstone to the East Gate and then I do the driving to reach the place around 6:30 in the evening. Short private drive up to the main Ranch office, and ten minutes later I'm unloading my stuff for the night. Supper in their dining room was fabulous. Best steak I had in the state of Wyoming! At least two parties were having a good time, plus there was at least one local couple enjoying the dining. Attentive and friendly staff assured that I will be enjoying this place the next time I'm visiting Yellowstone. read more

I did some pretty heavy research on dude ranches and was really happy I ended up choosing Bill Cody Ranch. Many ranches are a weeklong stay at a fairly hefty price, but Bill Cody let's you stay as many nights as you'd like and beyond that you can choose the full, riding package or only a cabin for any of those days, nights. We only wanted to stay four nights and ride two days before heading in to Yellowstone so this was perfect for us. The cabin was very nice, the owners and staff VERY friendly, food really good, great horses for novices, and spectacular trials. Just perfect . . . we will be back. read more

I can't say enough good things about our experience at Bill Cody Ranch. Clean, comfortable, and spacious cabins. Great game room with ping pong table, air hockey, and foosball table. Nice outdoor seating areas for relaxing, visiting, reading. Fire pit with s'mores every night, as well as impromptu lasso lessons for kids and adults alike. If I could give this place more stars I would. We had THE BEST time here!! We stayed two nights in a two bed cabin and did the 4 hour trail ride. Our wrangler Clayton was fabulous!! And as my 8 year old said, "this is the best burger I have ever had!!" Must be something about cooking it out in the wilderness. All the people there are so friendly and make you feel so at home. It was wonderful talking to the young kids working there for the summer and hear what their plans were for after. It's no surprise they all say they will come back to work here if they can the following season. The food was down home and delicious! The room was huge, and clean. The kids fought over who got to sleep on the couch bed, good thing we were there for 2 nights. When we come back to this neck of the U.S., we will DEFINITELY come back and stay here!! read more

A great company called Travel the Rockies booked us for a two-night stay at Bill Cody Ranch, which is about 25 miles from Cody, Wyoming. After exiting Yellowstone's East Entrance, we arrived at BCR just a short time later. It is a little horse ranch nestled into the mountains just off the main highway, and it is a great place. The other reviews give you all the details you need about the place. Suffice to say that the owners were on-site every day. They and their staff were extremely courteous and friendly. Food was good. What really stood out was our four-hour trail ride, guided by our excellent wrangler, Chantz Wilson. This young man was knowledgeable, friendly, and patient. I had previously ridden a horse once in my life, about 30 years ago. My daughter had never ridden, and my wife had ridden English. This ride was very rugged, but well worth the payoff. As for horses, I rode Sweet Grass. He was more than 15 hands high, and he had no trouble carrying me, which is incredible, as I weigh 220 lbs. My wife rode Spur; he was great, too. Our daughter rode Tuff, and he tested her a little, but she reined him in. All horses in the corral seems very well cared for: plenty to eat; great coats; healthy looking; and plenty of people around to watch over them. On the ride, we arrived at the top of a mountain, had beautiful views, and enjoyed a lunch of hamburgers and hot dogs cooked by Chantz. This place is very lucky to have Chantz, and he seems very happy to be there. We wished we had added a third night, as we understand from Chantz that bears are often seen on the two-hour ride he was going on the next day. As for room, we stayed in Buckaroo Cabin C, and it was plenty big, clean, and bright and airy. Just a great experience all the way around. We had the BEST time here! we rented the 'Cowboy Chalet', a 2 story cabin, sleeps 8; Make sure you bring your own cooking equipment as this cabin isstocked for 4 people. The decorations were cowboy cabin, beds were VERY soft, like sleeping in a nest, you'll need it if you go later in the summer, even with warm days it's chilly at night! Just what you'd expect from a family run business. They provided S'Mores every evening , there were wooden 'calves' to practice roping on, a playground, a Game room with ping pong, foos ball, and air hockey as well as books and games available in the lobby. No pets allowed, but they do have a Great Blue Heeler named Maverick that'll help you & the kids get your 'dog fix'. The owners and staff were very friendly, and helpful, even when I asked for favors during their meal & off hours. The stables are near so, you can go visit the horses, we had a wonderful trail ride, opted for the 2 hour ride, they were able to accomodate all skill levels, and they had some bigger horses for the ' big' girls. My Grand Daughter thought Jake, our Trail master was a 'Hunk'; he and Laninie were both very knowledgeable, and friendly , answered alot of questions, stayed with our youngest grand child untill he was comfortable on his horse. There's a stream running through the property, and the Shoshone River is accross the highway,with fairly close access ( with in a 1/4 mile) for fly fishing or just exploring. We had a family reunion at Bill Cody. Their staff is friendly, but very ineffective. Our rooom was barely cleaned .. dirt still on bathroom floor, garbage left in room. I would strongly advise not eating in the restaurant. Went there for dinner on our last night and it took 1 1/2 hours to get our food! No joke. It was mac-n-cheese and burgers .. nothing complicated. I was looking for a 1/2 day or full day horseback ride and came across Bill Cody's website. It says "ride with the best." We stayed in Yellowstone park at Bridge Bay and wanted something fairly "close" to our campsite. I called two days before to book the ride and was easily accommodated. We got there a few minutes late, missed checking in at the office and the wranglers were sweet and patient in helping us get ready to go. I am an experienced rider and was worried this would be a boring head to tail ride. Although several people were very novice, and it started out a little slow, once we go the horses on the trail it was amazing. The half day ride took us straight up, the horses were working hard but sure footed and happily climbed. We got an amazing view of the surrounding area, the reservoir, snow-capped mountains and some mountain goats. Laramie and Brendan were great guides! I would recommend this to anyone in the area of East Yellowstone or Cody, WY. read more
