    Cedar Mountain Trail Rides

DO NOT GO TO CEDAR MOUNTAIN TRAIL RIDES!!! Bob Deroche (the owner) is rude and clueless. I got…read moreseverely hurt there because he didn't know anything about equine safety for his guests (and apparently, I'm not the only one that landed in the hospital from that place). The wranglers are unprofessional, know-nothing, high school kids and have no idea what they're doing, either. No greeting when we got there, no nothing. Bob also INSISTED that we tip after the trail ride (we didn't) and I couldn't believe the audacity this old fart has. The trail is steep and dangerous - NOT FOR BEGINNERS - and the horses have no shelter from the hot sun and are tied up all day. Not even watered between trail rides (got there right as prior group came back and the horses were either used right away again or tied back up). YOU HAVE BEEN WARNED.

This was amazing!!! I wish I did this more than once while I was here in Cody! We didn't need a…read morereservation. We showed up at 11am and only two other groups joined us. All the guys helping us get on our horses were friendly and informative. $40 per person cash only for 1hr. And don't forget to tip your guide. Ours did an amazing job. Levi was our guide that day and he was great! He gave wonderful direction, kept us all together and a good steady pace. If you are a beginner don't worry! You can do this. A young boy was on a horse by himself and he did great and they kept him at the front with the guide. Their horses are well kept, calm, and well trained. This isn't a fast moving horseback ride. You are going up a beautiful trail, that can be steep at certain parts. But don't worry, your guide will stop to let you know about each section and how to prepare for it. For example whether you need to lean back or front, move your legs up to not get scratched by rocks, and more. It made our experience safe and comfortable. These horses are amazing and know the trail. Levi even took pictures for each family at the top. They are amazing! I really loved my horse Cheyenne and trusted her. She was beautiful, sweet and loved snacking here and there on our way up the trail during our stops. Very sweet! Even Levi mentioned that he would trust his 3 year old around any of the horses. Bathroom available on site. Overall I had an amazing experience. It was beautiful!

We were lucky enough to have phone signal so we called and they held our reservation. The ride itself was perfect! My girlfriend and I had a guide all to ourselves. She was very kind, great conversation, and definitely knew her way around a horse. I unfortunately do not recall her name, but honestly every single person we came in contact with at the ranch wrere kind. We took a nice ride up to a scenic peak where we had a beautiful view of the mountain range. Our guide was full of fun facts about the local foliage, critters, and nearby town Cody. The ranch also offers cabins for rent. I did not rent one as I had an RV, but they looked nice from the outside. The horse's looked well taken care of and all had their own personalities. If you're looking for a great horse back ride, definitely visit rand creek ranch. Not to mention they had the most affordable pricing I found when calling around to other ranches.

My wife and I spent a week at Crossed Sabres Ranch in Mid- August (2025) which was one of their…read more"adult" weeks (no children). We evaluated over 100 ranches and determined that we were interested in a full service guest ranch close to Yellowstone National Park. We then narrowed our list down to three and Crossed Sabres came out on top. Our phone conversation with Owner Kenny Long sealed the decision for us. Our trip was everything we had hoped it would be and more. We rode horses into the surrounding Absoroka Mountains every day, we did a full day tour of Yellowstone, we learned how to fly fish and how to squared dance, we shot skeet, and I white-water rafted. We even traveled into Cody one evening for the rodeo. All of that was awesome. But it was the people who made it special. Kenny, Laura, and Garrett Long do a great job with their ranch and they have a wonderful crew of wranglers and staff that made our stay so enjoyable. The food and the service was top notch. The other guests were amazing and we made some great friends. It was without a doubt one of our best vacations ever! We highly recommend Crossed Sabres Ranch!!!

What sets this ranch apart from others I have been to Is the variety of activities available both on the ranch and off . We loved the all inclusive nature of unlimited horse back riding, fly fishing . BB gun shooting , hiking , and down time just playing games ( fooseball , Pool, chess etc) at the ranch. We equally enjoyed all the included outings off site - the full day trip to Yellowstone, an afternoon of white water rafting, rodeo in Cody. Loved the variety of riding trails and customization of each ride to each riders level. Ranch is small enough that our kids could explore and meander about with little supervision. The independence they were given at the ranch can't be duplicated in our big urban city and was a priceless experience for them to have. Amazingly refreshing for the whole family to be in a place where there is no cell / internet service ( except for in an emergency situation - it's available in the lodge but none of the guests seemed to use it ). We unplugged and bonded, read, relaxed, took part in everything and enjoyed our week at the ranch immensely. Tips: bring a warm parka jacket ( was cold even mid June), despite the forecast saying it was a high of 70, most days felt very cold in the mornings warming up by late afternoon, bring a raincoat, bring a long sleeve swim shirt and or other fast drying clothes for the rafting trip ( you will get wet). Bring a cute western outfit or 2 for the square dance night and final dinner. Come with a good, down to earth attitude ( this isn't the four seasons) and be ready to mingle- this is a very social place. Be aware the overall staff employed is young and inexperienced and green ( many 18-20 years old) so you might not have a typical 5 star service experience at all time. For the most part though. the staff was kind and friendly and accommodating. Additional shout outs to Jayden ( aka skippy) who DOES provide a five star service experience with every interaction and Garett who my kids loved playing pool and bags with and Mary whose food was consistently very good. Overall, a big 5 star experience and memories made that will last a lifetime for us and our children. Highly recommend!!!
