My wife and I spent a week at Crossed Sabres Ranch in Mid- August (2025) which was one of their "adult" weeks (no children). We evaluated over 100 ranches and determined that we were interested in a full service guest ranch close to Yellowstone National Park. We then narrowed our list down to three and Crossed Sabres came out on top. Our phone conversation with Owner Kenny Long sealed the decision for us. Our trip was everything we had hoped it would be and more. We rode horses into the surrounding Absoroka Mountains every day, we did a full day tour of Yellowstone, we learned how to fly fish and how to squared dance, we shot skeet, and I white-water rafted. We even traveled into Cody one evening for the rodeo. All of that was awesome. But it was the people who made it special. Kenny, Laura, and Garrett Long do a great job with their ranch and they have a wonderful crew of wranglers and staff that made our stay so enjoyable. The food and the service was top notch. Magnificent week. Kenny and Laura were excellent hosts. We met some lovely people, rode our personal assigned horses for the week to our heart's content, tried fly fishing for the first time which was unbelievably cool, ate very well all week and had comfortable sleeping accommodations. What sets this ranch apart from others I have been to Is the variety of activities available both on the ranch and off . We loved the all inclusive nature of unlimited horse back riding, fly fishing . BB gun shooting , hiking , and down time just playing games ( fooseball , Pool, chess etc) at the ranch. We equally enjoyed all the included outings off site - the full day trip to Yellowstone, an afternoon of white water rafting, rodeo in Cody. Loved the variety of riding trails and customization of each ride to each riders level. Ranch is small enough that our kids could explore and meander about with little supervision. The independence they were given at the ranch can't be duplicated in our big urban city and was a priceless experience for them to have. Amazingly refreshing for the whole family to be in a place where there is no cell / internet service ( except for in an emergency situation - it's available in the lodge but none of the guests seemed to use it ). We unplugged and bonded, read, relaxed, took part in everything and enjoyed our week at the ranch immensely. Tips: bring a warm parka jacket ( was cold even mid June), despite the forecast saying it was a high of 70, most days felt very cold in the mornings warming up by late afternoon, bring a raincoat, bring a long sleeve swim shirt and or other fast drying clothes for the rafting trip ( you will get wet). Bring a cute western outfit or 2 for the square dance night and final dinner. Come with a good, down to earth attitude ( this isn't the four seasons) and be ready to mingle- this is a very social place. Be aware the overall staff employed is young and inexperienced and green ( many 18-20 years old) so you might not have a typical 5 star service experience at all time. For the most part though. the staff was kind and friendly and accommodating. Additional shout outs to Jayden ( aka skippy) who DOES provide a five star service experience with every interaction and Garett who my kids loved playing pool and bags with and Mary whose food was consistently very good. As I write this I am still nostalgic and wistful about my family's four night stay, inclusive of meals, horseback and fishing trips, and a Yellowstone tour. We really felt included in this ranch's extended family of kitchen, housekeeping and ranch hands, and had many shared adventures together. The ranch's cooking is hearty and satisfying, and will leave no one hungry. The area around the ranch is breathtakingly beautiful. Owners Laura and Kenny Long and their sons Justin and Garrett are warm and cordial, and share meals with their guests - as well as evenings around the porch, billiard table, and well stocked bar. My 19 year old daughter warmed up to the idea of a backcountry vacation over the 4 days we stayed; as she learned horsemanship, fly fishing techniques, and took in the wonders of nearby Yellowstone. The Crossed Sabres offers a charming off the grid interlude for anyone looking for a temporary escape from the big city rat race. The Wild West of Cody is less than an hour away, for anyone also wanting to take in rodeos or local western history. Yellowstone is 8 miles away. What the proprietors offer is precious; family bonding time undistributed by wifi and cell phones! I have never had a better experience with a dude ranch. The horses were all well cared for and well behaved, even for neophytes. We hope to visit again and soon. read more

My family just completed a three night stay at Crossed Sabres and cannot reccommend it enough. We visited about half of the guest ranches between Yellowstone and Cody (I understand there are 15 total), and this was definitely the best location - wide open spaces, beautiful views, little creek down the center of the property that served as peaceful background music at night. Just beautiful. The cabins are also highly recommended - they are small but clean and efficient. Our had two rooms plus a bathroom, each with its own heating unit, which worked well during the cold Wyoming nights. The shower was super hot, fed by a tankless system in each unit. There is also plenty to do on site: nice little hikes, lounging on the porch, playing horseshoes or practice roping, there are also games and books in the lodge. The ranch is very close to Yellowstone, but not too far from Cody (highly recommend the rodeo, we had a BLAST there). The river off the main road also looks incredible for rafting or fishing, that is the one thing we did not do during our stay. My family stayed as a cabin rental guest, not an 'all inclusive'. I was concerned that we would be treated like second class citizens, but that couldn't be further from the truth. It is true that we could not share in meals (which looked phenomenal) or join in the activities, but Kenny and the staff at Crossed Sabres were more than friendly and hospitable, and there are a number of dining options nearby. We really enjoyed getting out & seeing the different ranches in the area. If you can spend the week, I am sure your enjoyment would excel to a whole other level - we saw guests riding horses, heading into the park, going fishing & rafting and enjoying expertly prepared meals. But, if you can only stay for a few days, I would still recommend Crossed Sabres for its ideal location, quality of accomodations & mostly the nicest and truest people you are likely to meet. This week my family went to our first dude ranch today! It was freakin awesome. We all enjoyed it a lot. My 6 year old sister and 11 year old brother played with other kids in a varieties of activities like chess and checkers in the mourning or pool (the game) and Foosball in the evening. The landscape was the best thing I have ever seen with tons of animals and it is photography heaven. This place is really meant for down to earth people as there is no cellar/WiFi and the nearest town is one hour away. The meals were amazing too with lots of meat and a bottomless cookie jar. The owners were super friendly as well as the staff. They have the best dogs in the world to play with for the kids. I feel like this ranch really specializes in horse back ridding and is really open to ideas. You can go for a 45 minute ride or you can go for an all day rid with lunch included. The fly fishing is one of a kind too. They take you out right of the ranch and the world opens up. You really don't know what animals your going to find. We caught 8 fish in one day as a family and the fish that we caught were massive rainbow trout and white fish. One of the big reasons why we went to this ranch was because it is a ten minute drive to Yellowstone National Park. We visited old faithful, waterfalls, mud volcanos and stunning views. There is also a professional photographer following you around on and off the ranch that takes pictures for your family. There is also a ton of special events that take place during the week. Some of the ones to look forward to are square dancing night, rodeo (which could be a bit intense with animal cruelty), white water rafting 1-3 level waves and of course Yellowstone. There's only 30 people on the ranch , so you get a lot of individual attention. One big thing to look out for is WEATHER. Since it is in the mountains the weather can change on a dime. You NEED to bring clothes for 40 degree weather and 100 degree weather. Also bring a rain jacket, boots and a hat. Trust me your going to want it, other wise your feet are going to get muddy, you might get a down Poor on you when you are fishing or horse back riding or a big sun burn middle of the day. The Sleeping situation is amazing. Depending on who and how many people there are in your family, they give you a cabin. My family has 3 kids and 2 adults and they gave us a layout like this: there is two side to the cabin and and sliding doors and a bathroom connects them. Instant hot water for a shower/bath and a sink and a toilet. On the kid side of the cabin there is a bunk bed which my siblings loved and then there was a twin bed. The room had one dresser and about 8 shelves. On the parent side of the cabin there was on king bed with a dresser. It was an amazing trip and I would definitely come back when I have kids. read more

We had a GREAT time at this Ranch. Kenny and Laura bought this ranch a few years ago, so best to ignore older reviews. They take a guest first approach, always looking for ways to make your experience memorable. We are a family of 5 (kids 12, 10 and 6) and the activities were not only geared towards us as adults, but also very kid friendly. All activities were well planned, and timed, and very enjoyable. From horseback riding, to fly fishing (both with experienced staff to assist and ensure safety and success) to bb guns and archery for the kids, a guided trip to Yellowstone, rafting the Shoshone River, a night at the Cody Rodeo, etc, this weeklong trip brought us even closer together as a family. You should be aware, there is no cell/wifi coverage on the ranch, and you are 45 minutes away from the closest coverage, so you are remote. There are also no TV's, so understand that before you come. Once you get use to it (took us about a day) you'll embrace the time and tranquility with your family and friends (including the new ones you'll meet at the ranch). Amazing Vacation! I stayed at Crossed Sabers Ranch 50 years ago, yes 50, I was 7 years old. The ranch has changed ownership since that time; my experience was even more wonderful than before! Kenny and Laura, the owners, are the perfect hosts. The staff is incredible and very knowledgeable; from horseback riding to fishing, to hiking, to the Yellowstone tour, etc., All first Rate! The food is so GOOD! The scenery is beautiful, their are literally millions of stars and you will feel relaxed, peaceful and energized at the same time. Bottom line if you don't want to read this long review: We just returned from a trip to Cody WY where we spent a week at the Crossed Sabres Ranch. It was an absolutely fantastic week and we would unequivocally recommend it. If you are looking for a dude ranch in Wyoming, this is the place to go. You are close to Yellowstone (8 miles) and will not find a more beautiful setting. You also won't find a family that cares more for their guests than the Longs and their staff. Highlights - horseback riding, a homemade breakfast after an early morning ride, white water rafting, seeing buffalo up close, a guided trip to Yellowstone, the Cody Rodeo (fun!), and great food and friends. Some Details: Our family of 5 spent a week at the Ranch. It was great everything we had hoped for! The Ranch is under new ownership. Kenny & Laura Long are the new owners and along with their staff, provide a top-notch stay with personalized attention and a warm family atmosphere. We ate meals with them, their family and their staff every day. We had long conversations about our lives, what brought us all to WY, and the peace that is so present on the Ranch. Their youngest son, Garrett, played with our three boys and bonded with them over games of baseball and pool. It was great to have a fourth boy to add to the mix! There was great flexibility built into the week to accommodate each of our individual desires - some of us wanted to hike while others want to horseback ride or fish. The professional staff split up to help make each event happen. They all worked night and day to attend to details that made the week unfold flawlessly. Mary, our fabulous cook, created meals that were delicious and different each day. She also made the best cookies ever that were there for us to take whenever we wanted. Her work never ended, but she was always cheerful and happy to be with us. She was helped in various ways by Rachel, China, Jeff and Malaki. They were always up and tending to our every need without a lot of down time in-between bites. Tim, Greta, Nakil, Sam and Justin were our guides for various activities. We can't say enough about their skill level and dedication to the job. We have three boys who are active and always looking for the next thing to do. Our guides were all there for us whenever we wanted to hike, fish or ride horses. They were patient with us newbies from the city when we had questions or needed a little slower pace. But, by the end of the trip, our kids were cantering on horses and begging for more! The ranch itself is beautifully located with mountains and a view on all sides. It has a brook through it that adds a beautiful background sound. The cabins are cute, cozy and scattered around the property with the main lodge located in close proximity. The main room in the lodge ended up being a gathering place for all the guests and staff to spend time together. There is a great area for a bonfire and cookout, too, where the kids can run around and play while the adults sit and talk. We had a great whiffle ball game at that site on the last night to wrap up the week. By the time we left, we felt like we were leaving long time friends. I came here with my two teen aged grandsons and this turned out to be the BEST vacation we have had ever! It more than met our expectations. First, I must say that the staff, headed up by Kenny, are not only helpful but FUN to be around (the boys even learned roping and had games with it). We tried every activity from riding to fishing, going to the rodeo, river rafting, and of course enjoying the wonderful food. This was the vacation of a lifetime for us. Everything about it was outstanding. My grandsons are from the eastern part of the U.S. I wanted them to come away from this trip with an understanding of some of the differences of the western part of the U.S. -- the expansive nature of it The memories of viewing elk, fox, deer, groose, and other wildlife from horseback in their natural habitat, are thoughts that will remain in their hearts forever. read more

Wonderful experience! Our stay at Crossed Sabres Ranch exceeded our expectations in all areas! The staff were all very friendly, knowledgeable and professional. The food was delicious. The accommodations were clean, comfortable and spacious. The activities were well organized and thoughtfully planned, allowing you to participate in as little or as much as you pleased. No one in our group had horseback riding or fly fishing experience, but we were all able to enjoy both and develop new skills. The mountain scenery is nothing short of breathtaking, especially on horseback. The proximity of the ranch to Yellowstone National Park paired with the included guided tour helps make this ranch even more special. While we went to the ranch with family, I would feel comfortable returning to the ranch as a single and would recommend this ranch to anyone looking to travel alone. We had a fantastic time at Crossed Sabers Ranch from the moment we opened our eyes in the morning until we shut them at night - all six days we were there. The owners, Kenny and Laura Long are truly fantastic people who will do just about anything to make sure you have a good time. One of the secrets to their success is the hiring of their staff. These young people come from every corner of the country and all are experts in their area. They are horse wranglers, fishing guides, cooks and housekeeping staff. All of them are fun to be around and as dedicated as Kenny and Laura to assuring a good experience. The horses there are amazing. Based on the profile submitted in advance, Kenny will assign a horse that fits your riding skill level. I could claim some experience so the horse I got was spirited, responsive and fast! My wife is a beginner. Her horse was more stable and gentle, she loved him. The riding terrain around the ranch is incomparable. Great hills to climb up to vistas that are breathtaking. The food was great, always perfectly prepared. One of the other things I liked but did not see mentioned in other reviews is that the ranch has a beautiful stream running through it. When we were there the first week of June, it was very full and rushing. The stream runs behind most of the cabins. At night you can go to sleep listening to the water. A final note; there is no TV, Wi-Fi or cell service, it was wonderful. People talked instead of looking at their phones. Speaking of people, we met a lot of new friends there and had a great time with them. You really can't beat this place if you are into having fun outdoors. read more

Kenny who runs the ranch is truly interested in his guests happiness with their experience. He is a great role model for his family and employees. Great location 8 miles from Yellowstone entrance with beautiful scenery surrounding the ranch. If the guest ranch experience is for you, or you want to find out if it is for you, Crossed Sabers is the place to try. It is not the Ritz Carlton and doesn't pretend to be - accommodations are comfortable but rustic although the lodge/dining hall is beautiful. Food selections are what I would call "hearty" and are good so portion control if you are "watching it". Connectivity is limited - or maybe that is a good thing - no cell at the ranch - although you can get good cell reception a few miles out - and internet at the lodge only. They are at over 7000 feet so you may need a day or a few to acclimate. (Unless you live at high altitude you probably don't want to plan that 5 mile hike at least the first few days!). Primary activities at this time are trail riding, fishing, hiking, guided Yellowstone tours by a knowledgeable staff member, teaching you to rope, rafting out of Cody through a great rafting company I think they are connected somehow, and excellent transportation to/from Cody airport and around the area. The staff is very knowledgeable of local activities like the Cody Rodeo and will get you there to see it. I think they are planning to add pack trips, hunting and more extensive fishing trips next season but check with them to find out more about that.. read more
