If you look in the dictionary under perfect low-key local ski shop, I suspect you will find a picture of this place. Incredibly helpful people, I stopped in with a repair I needed for a boot, they had me going in no time and gave me a bit of really useful 411 as well. Prices better than fair. They take pride in their local ski mountain, which they should. And pride in their work and their shop. As they should. It's great. Yes, are there cheaper options online? Probably. Are they going to be there when you need them in a jam and can they provide that sort of local information? I doubt it. Strong recommend. read more

Went up to Ski Cooper for my anniversary and rented from Paul and his wife. This is not your average ski rental shop. From the second I walked in, I was treated like a guest. Paul had everything ready for me with my name on it to try on and helped me find the best fit for the day. The whole process took maybe 10 minutes, unlike big resorts where you're waiting in line forever. Upon returning my rentals, Paul gave me recommendations for dinner in town and various things to do during our stay. If you're in town and need rentals I highly suggest coming into Bills! read more

My buddies & I were going to backpack Mt. Elbert this past weekend, but after doing some research, we came to the conclusion that we needed snowshoes since none of us know how to ski. Doing a quick internet search, we stumbled upon Bill's Rentals in Leadville, a reasonable distance from our campsite in Twin Lakes (we stayed in White Star, about 18 miles south of Leadville). We spoke to Paul, who was the owner/operator of the store and assured us we could book online, which we did. We reserved our snowshoes online several days in advance (without charging a deposit on a credit card). Paul told us over the phone that his store would appear that it's closed for the season, but is still open if we needed his assistance. This was a huge help, because our summit attempt for the trip hinged on our ability to secure snowshoes somehow from a vendor. We get to the store, and it looks closed, but the personal cell phone of Paul is listed on the door. We call, and Paul took off to Phoenix as his expected grandchild was born. Panicked, we were nervous that our entire trips plans were going to get washed out. Paul took our credit card over the phone and to our amazement, gave us the access codes to the shop to enter. We respectfully took the items we paid for to rent, securely closed his shop and that was that. The equipment worked out great on Mt. Elbert! None of us snowshoed before and it was very challenging and fun. Everything was in good condition and without Bill's shop or Paul's help, there's no way we could have made it to the summit. The real value of the shop is the service behind the equipment. Without the level of service we experienced, my friends and I would have been screwed above tree line and wouldn't have made it. Especially in this day and age, it's baffling to think a shop owner would give us access codes-trusting complete strangers with his business-and let us take what we needed for our trip. That definitely shows the character of Paul and this stores' employees in a very positive light! There were pictures on the wall of customers using their equipment, so if you rent from them and do something sweet, send them a shot and you'll make the wall of fame! Bravo and hats off to this shop's service and staff, I thank you again for your trust and service exceeding all of our expectations! Will happily recommend to anyone! read more

Visited Bill's just before Christmas during a ski trip to get some rentals for my wife. I've never had such a pleasant rental experience anywhere! The owners are extremely friendly and quite entertaining. Prices were very competitive (last I check they were lowest in town) and service was excellent. DO NOT RENT HERE. 3/3 snowboards i rented with my friends malfunctioned in the morning so that we had to actually quit in the middle of the day. Two of the boards had binding malfunctions where the main strap (not the toe strap) was completely torn off from the board. One of my friends had a boot that had no laces. They all ripped out of the boot the first time he tried tightening them at the car. Entire day ruined. When I returned I asked if I had already paid in full, to which he said yes. I then asked if I could have one of the days for free considering half of my entire day was ruined when my binding broke before lunch. He said he'd give me half the day off. meaning my $28 day would be 14. considering I paid more than $100 a day for two days at copper mountain. He should be immediately offering me a full day free if not the entire rental WITHOUT ASKING AT ALL. NOT ONLY DID HE AT FIRST DENY MY FULL DAY FREE BUT HE HAD ALREADY GIVEN MY OTHER FRIEND THE FULL FREE DAY 30 MINUTES BEFORE. He then followed me to my car and tried to make me feel bad about my "attitude" and how he is the "nicest guy in the world". Truth is he would've let me walk out that door paying in full when he had already my friend with the exact same malfunction have the full day free. What a joke, seriously needs to rethink this business. read more

Great service, great equipment and extremely convenient pickup and drop off for Ski Cooper. They have tubes to fly down the hillsides (one on West side of Leadville). The price is very competitive for a huge variety of equipment. They have everything you need to hit the slopes, so if you forgot it they got it. You won't go wrong renting from Bills! read more
