We had children and it was busy inside. For 4th of July weekend, I would think they'd have more than 2 people waiting tables. They told us they'd clean off the low table for us. After waiting 10 mins and it not being cleaned, we sat at a high top with the kids. After another 10 mins of waiting and nobody coming by, we left. Another great experience for us, this time indoors. What a cool north woods, cozy vibe they have going on in there. Our server was SO nice and friendly. So much so, I felt comfortable telling her that my shrimp was really salty. It was super delicious and cooked to perfection otherwise, and it made a great gluten free option for me. Had an opportunity to stop into a place that haven't been to for many years. Hasn't changed much... but that's a great thing! Located about 8 miles west of one of the vacation hubs (Minocqua) in Northern Wisconsin. This place is always busy. (Even in the "off season" of late September). Location is one of the reasons it's busy, but the other and most importantly is that it's great food! Tonight I had the Full Rack of Ribs. Comes with a potato, soup or salad and slaw for $24. Ribs were great! Very neatly and fell off the bone... no knife needed to eat this meal. I have also hear that the breakfasts are awesome. And I noticed a lot of people coming in for their pizza. Had a great time with the locals and the bartender (Kay) was very enjoyable. She told us to come back on a Tuesday Night. They have a cash only night with a limited menu and drink specials. The staff dresses in kilts and add a little more "attitude" to their interactions with the customers. Fun place, good food and great service. Need to check the Black Bear out! read more

Been coming here for over 30 years and it's still a family fave. Tonight was no exception to the wonderful experience we always have. We overheard the staff working overtime to make every table feel welcome and appreciated. It was packed solid--- and they did everything they could to get us a table without rushing their other guests. Pizza was hot and delicious and the old fashioneds were on point. 10/10 recommend this northwoods neighborhood pizza joint and bar. It will always be our go-to. Especially with the kiddos. read more

Everything was fine to perfection! Tasty, reasonably priced. Don't let the bar atmosphere scare you.... It's actually pretty cool inside. Went to Black Bear on Friday night for their fish fry. The perch was excellent! Light crispy breading and excellent tater sauce! Three of us each ordered different meals and all enjoyed. The drinks were well poured and the staff hard working and friendly! Great place to dine! I'll definitely be back! read more

Such a great little breakfast spot, my dad and I grab breakfast here every time we come up north. As of the last week in July 2020 they were fully up and running. Due to safety, my dad and I chose to eat outside. They have about eight tables and a beautiful out door area on the water. There was no wait when we grabbed breakfast when they opened at 9. Waitress was very friendly and attentive (we got plenty of coffee refills!). I want to note that for the French Toast I got the not so hungry portion which was only $7.50 with a bacon upgrade from sausage. My dad got a regular pancake breakfast which was more than enough food. Very adequate tasting home style breakfast. Bacon was nice and thick and hash browns were crispy. read more

This restaurant has signs up that say "GET A JOB ITS THE AMERICAN WAY" and "money isn't free" seemingly referring to people who have been affected by a global pandemic and needed financial assistance. This is very strange coming from a business that received $88,000 in FREE money from the government in the form a loan that was forgiven in April of this year. Super hypocritical, insensitive and downright rude. Dine where your community and money is respected. This place isn't it. read more

This establishment received a PPP loan for $88,900 which was FORGIVEN entirely in April of 2021. Yet, they post a sign out front saying "money isn't free..." "Get a job, it's the American way". As per usual, the owners have a different set of rules for themselves than they do others. $88,900 is a lot of free money. Even if it went to payroll, they still got the government to pay for their payroll rather than themselves. Hypocritical and not the place I want to support. My dad and I stopped in after arriving in Minocqua for a weekend snowmobile trip. It has a cozy cabin-style interior that I absolutely loved! This place is very clean and well-maintained, which can be hit or miss in the northwoods with places that are at least partially snowmobile bars. It is conveniently right on the trails, although we happened to drive over for this visit. We ordered pizza, which we later learned is one of the things they are known for, and were thoroughly impressed! Our waitress was kind enough to be upfront with me about how pizzas split half and half are made so I could decide if I wanted a separate vegetarian one. She was super attentive and so friendly! The tables were arranged a little weird and it was hard to find one we felt comfortable at given their proximity to bathroom doors and closeness to other tables or the main walkway, but given it's size and vibe, it is definitely worth being a little cramped. Everyone is friendly in the northwoods anyway! I heard later from friends that their breakfast is also worth trying, so I'll have to visit again! read more

My family and I were quite a large party of 15 people and after being turned down by another restaurant we were all very hungry. We came in a were seated immediately. The restaurant was decorated wonderfully and Brie our server was amazing. She was impeccable, giving us drinks right away and getting food orders in. I highly recommend getting the broiled chicken sandwich with onion rings. 10/10 restaurant. Brie made our night and she deserves a raise for the smiles we left with! read more

Our first trip to minocqua! After getting to our room, we immediately went to the Northwoods Dining Guide in our room to look for a place to eat dinner. We decided we were in the mood for something lite, and maybe a beer or cocktail. After reading, we decided the Black Bear fit the bill nicely. It's a 13 minute drive from The Pointe Hotel and Suites, so we did pass by every other eatery in the area to get there, but let me tell you, it was worth it! We both ordered the Shrimp Tacos. Very yummy! I will warn you the sriracha is very spicy! They did put it on the side for me, so I was able to control the heat myself. The Atmisphere is what you would expect for a Wisconsin Bar and Grille. They do have seating in the bar, if you like that type of dark coziness, -or- you can do what we did and sit in the dining room behind the bar, which is a bright room with a very pretty view of a creek, and woods with lots of wildlife. The staff was very nice and attentive. We decided to fore go the cocktails, and went with soft drinks. so our bill only came to $30, which included a generous tip for the GREAT service. We had a fun time here. Plenty of seating inside and some outside, though this time of year the outdoor and back bar were closed. Came in on a Saturday night and got seated with 5 right away. I had their ribs. Lots of ribs for the cost! The bbq was sweet--you could actually taste the honey. They were quite good and had lots of meat! Also had a cup of chili. Probably one of the better chilis I've had in Minocqua, in my book. Thicker and flavorful. Seems like a lot of chilis up there were more soupy and didn't have a very bold flavor. Our waitress was normally a bartender. She was a lot of fun and although she was very busy, took the few seconds to have a laugh and was always attentive. We didn't have pizzas, but they looked great! The poppers were alright. Definitely were poppy! Fillings oozed out at first bite. Our buddy had an Italian beef, he said it was very good. The lightbulbs over the table were blindingly bright. We had to unscrew ours because a couple of us were getting headaches. Waitress made it a joke and so did we--no complaints from either side with the situation. Fun spot, backyard is picturesque. Been here for drinks, first time for food. read more

We came here on a Sunday night. This place was very busy. We ordered cheese curds, ribs, and a pizza. The pizza was just okay. It kind of tasted slightly better than a Jacks frozen pizza. The ribs were pretty mediocre and not award winning. I think our server had a ton of tables she was waiting on and seemed a little bit stressed... which is understandable. There were kids in the restaurant without their shoes on and crawling on the floor which I thought was disgusting. Part of that is a parenting problem but also a cleanliness and health code issue too. read more

Rustic and recently remodeled, this is definitely one of my favorite bars Up North! Full Log/Great Fireplace/Locals/Poker Machines and it's DARK inside which is key for me. Nice back room with open views of Creek/Wildlife. Great Beer selections and Spotted Cow on Tap of course as well as Full Bar. Definitely a Pizza Joint and we always go for the "House Special" Za-Very Good! Apps are pretty standard with the Buffalo Wings being the best of the bunch. Bartenders are really cool and know how to facilitate the customers as well as the Locals. Serving Breakfast and always have great Live Blues on the weekends! Their breakfast is a family favorite. The biscuits and gray are so good that we always make sure to plan a day to go to breakfast here whenever we are up north. Although it's been a few years since I've been here for lunch they definitely do have a good looking menu that always makes me wish I had the time to go back.
