My hair was long at the time and a couple things went wrong. When she dipped my hair in the hot / boiling water to seal the braids she didn't account for the length of my natural hair and basically caused horrible heat damage. Also to clean up the braids of fly aways they run scissors up and down and again didn't account for my natural hair. At the end of the day they don't take care of the health and protection of natural hair, which was really disappointing when the reason for getting the braids was for a protective style. Maryam isn't cheap, so expect to pay a few hundred dollars for box braids. I was fine with her prices and admired her for setting her rates based on her experience versus the pressures from the public to be cheap and fast. You don't get both.

Because I had a small number of people that needed makeup services (myself, my mom, and my sister-in-law) I worked with Taylor instead of Kate for my wedding, but both of them were at my trial and were super thorough and listened to exactly what I wanted, making adjustments as needed. They were also both very excited about my nontraditional bridal vision and created a look that complemented it perfectly. On the morning of my wedding, Taylor arrived promptly and was super warm, bubbly, and easygoing; we had such a great time getting our makeup done, she made it super relaxing and fun. I LOVED the way my makeup turned out and it did not budge all day despite pouring rain, lots of ugly-crying (I was a mess during our ceremony), and dancing the night away.
