This place was really sweet. Cozy, neighbourhood pub, not too loud. The covered patio tucked out back is gorgeous - worth asking for a table out there on a nice day. We didn't have reservations, (Saturday night at 5:30pm) and got a table quickly. I enjoyed my sandwich, and the fries were nice and crispy. Lots of beer options. Went here for a light bite this afternoon ! The balcony is enjoyable on a nice day despite the roaring motorcycles. I got the teriyaki fries which were delicious. It had very flavorful teriyaki pulled pork with some crispy onions, green peppers and shredded mixed cheese. The fries were great, but they would have been more generous with the teriyaki sauce. My friend got the red hot franks fries, which was basically chicken with franks sauce, but there was no sauce otherwise on the fries at all. Could have used a blue cheese or garlic aioli drizzle. The wine list was very limited and they were out of the few wines that were listed. Would be great to have more (and local) options! Would come back next time I'm in the area. read more

Love this pub! Love the selections of beer. Pizzas are always great for sharing. Don't even get me started on the gourmet fries. The garlic chicken fries are hella good, always a regular pick for me when I can't decide what to get haha. You can't go wrong with any of the gourmet fries. The chilli was awesome, very great flavour. Only complaint is that last time I got it, it wasn't as warm as I usually like it. If it was a tad bit warmer, it'd be perfect. Burgers are very filling and worth it. The only reason why I won't give it a 5 star rating, is the service... the servers are nice, but sometimes they don't get to you for a while. DID NOT enjoy the food. Overcooked burger, lettuce had big spots of rotting brown. The bun was not grilled, mushy it absorbed the mayo and tomato. The garden salad has GOAT cheese, yuk. Not many people like goat flavor. The service was good though. I looked around and none of the dishes looked very good for the prices they charge. THEY SHOULD STICK TO BEER. Every time you have been able to count on your burger being truly top notch. Large expertly cooked and assembled and great taste none of this frozen patty dry bun pub shit here .. Went w the bell ringer meat w more meat in the form of pulled pork and jalapeño chips and hot sauce ... I'm a larger dude so I also added a extra patty to mine you won't need to don't worry but I put food back like its a job there all so good, you can't compare these to a red robin or white spot this is well beyond there spec and as soon as it hits the table this is very clear .. Got a pitcher of fat tug IPA to wash it down super cold in a frosted glass pitcher so much WIN the pizza is great as well and after the burger I needed one :) chicken bacon in a homemade garlic white sauce w red onion I believe thin crust cooked crispy w tons of toppings I don't even like pizza from your normal take out sources but these make it hard not to order often .. Called in a pizza for takeout from the Pizza Cafe for the first time tonight! Been wanting to try it! Ordered the "Homemade Sausage" (homemade marinara, Italian beer sausage, caramelized onions, oven roasted red peppers topped with whole milk mozzarella - $17). Picked it up (got $3 off for takeout, which was a nice surprise!) and it was nicely packaged in a plain brown pizza box with the Alehouse/Cafe logo stamped on it, tied with twine. So pretty and very much in keeping with the cool, artisanal vibe they've got going on. The cafe itself is very small, but comfy & clean. Fresh baked goods (muffins, cookies, cakes, scones, etc) were also for sale, and the art on the chalk menu boards was fantastic! A very nice visual package, overall. Got the pizza home and was eager to try it, since it smelled delicious!! The crust was very very thin, with limited sauce (which I love! Too much sauce = bad pizza) and perfect crispy edges. Great combination of tastes, with the savory sausage vs the sweetness of the peppers. I'd definitely order it again (though I'd probably want to try something else, like the pulled pork pizza!). Everything was going great until Greg's (? He's rather new) wife and adult son arrived and some strange sort of domestic matter ensued that seemed very distracting for him. Rented the Airbnb above Billy Miner after our truck broke down 450 miles from home. We were able to get in the room pretty late and came down to order some food to take to our room. Ordered the poutine and cheese pizza and a growler to go. PHENOMENAL. Ordered a mocha this morning from the cafe which was delicious and was given a glass of milk to bring up to the room for our baby. Overall the experience was awesome. I'm going to begin with the negatives first. For some odd reason, management has decided to neither properly train waitresses or hire ones who already are. "Can I get a water?" Never did a water come. "May I have an extra side of cornbread?" Nope, never got that either. I had to get up to remind her about the side of ranch, and after 15 min with no sign of her, finally yelled as she swept past so we could get our check. Really, really terrible service. We were at the Billy miner pub in Maple Ridge last night. At first thought it was closed as it looked empty, but it was open. Met by Gillian, the main waitress and had a fantastic night. Ordered beer after looking at the huge beer menu, had a gouda and mushroom burger that was the best I've ever had. French fries were incredible, hot and perfect. It was as if we had our own private restaurant, later others arrived, but mainly quiet and peaceful. Gillian was awesome, attentive and informative. She gave us a samples of different beer choices, showing her knowledge of drinks. I would highly recommend the place, hopefully it will make more money so they can remain open. Amazing beer list. Good food. But some of the worst service anyone in our group has ever seen. Here's some examples: -taking an hour or more to get a bill. -telling a (shaved head) cancer patient that she was "too slow" in ordering. During a cancer fund raiser. -hiding chairs from patrons so that groups won't be seated together. We've been coming here for years--before and after the new management. The last few times we've come, the service has been actively hostile towards us. We don't know why. We've poured thousands of dollars into this place. We are sad to leave. But I think we'll have to take our money elsewhere. By the way, prices here have gone up to about $8 a glass of beer for some beers--with no prices on the menu, you might be surprised! read more

I can go about this place, but I'll just sum it up: - The food is awesome and priced well - The beer selection is fantastic, and my friends and I are going to do a beer challenge by sharing a pitcher of every brew they have on the menu in one sitting. I really like the apricot and their raspberry. Fruit beer? Who woulda 'thunk it. - The service was good. She always checked in on us and was speedy with our drinks. Also, I love the fact that we have a small section of patio tucked in the corner where we can SMOKE! Yeah - there are still some smokers out there, I'm one of them. I always have the wings pizza and chilli here at the Billy. But today we went outside of the box and tried the The Sweet Battered Bird/chicken and waffles as well as the Famous Billy burger. The chick and waffs were fantastic. The waffles stuffed with bacon, pecan syrup. The chicken was Crisp and flavourful. Lots of spice. The waffle was extra crispy and not fluffy in the centre as I thought it would be. The burger was really big. Tried to push it down to fit in my mouth but it didn't compact much. A must eat with two hands. Smothered in BBQ sauce the pulled pork on the burger was delicious! Very messy but a good burger always is. Kronenbourg 1664 blanc beer is back and very tasty. read more

One of my favorite spots in town! Love the beer selection - ever changing - cheap Growler fills, amazing burgers and pizza. The service is very hit or miss however - I have had absolutely terrible waiters more than once and the lack of uniform or personal cleanliness is slightly concerning, however the food and drink always keeps me coming back. read more

Three strikes you're out!! I gave up on this joke of an establishment two years ago after constant bad service, burnt pizza and shitty overpriced coffee on the cafe side. But, my husband loves the food in the pub and continues to give them many chances. But after last night he won't be going back. Flash back to a month and half ago. Called to make an order for pick up. Bell ringer burger and regular poutine. Get all the way home and fries have cheese curds but no gravy. Call to complain...waitress says I'm so sorry, my manager will call you tomorrow to offer credit. No call. Then a few weeks later, he calls and puts in exact same order. They say to come by on half hour. Goes to pick it up and has to wait 15 minutes. Fine whatever....but get home and burger has no cheese and this time fries have gravy but no cheese!! Finally last night, call to place order. Hey say give us 25 min to pick. Ok cool. Get there 40 min later only to find out order was never placed and my husband waits for 35 minutes to get his food. Waitress ignores him the entire time he's waiting, doesn't offer him a water or anything. Doesn't even offer a damn apology. Fuck this place.. read more

Four of us for dinner on a Tuesday night. More than HALF their draft beers were out. Seriously!! Our friends ordered a pizza. It was dry, burned and served waaaay before our food. When we mentioned it to our server she said that's what happens when you have 2 kitchens. No communication. We waited over an hour for some gourmet fries. When my sweet chili chicken fries came out it was missing goat cheese. service was dreadful considering it was barely half full. No attempt was made to rectify the situation or give us something on the house for the overly long wait time, burnt food, missing ingredients, or unavailable beers. We paid prime price for a disappointing experience. We are done with second chances. We usually keep coming back for our favorite beer but time and time again they are out of it anyways. Very cool spot. Unfortunately had to give a 3 star due to the food. Wings were really good. Wife had a salad that came out with warm lettuce, which was gross. Server did nothing to fix and still charged us even though she didn't eat any of it. Burger was tasty, but average. Bill was $57. First time today after a hike at Golden Ears. I've seen a ton of posts online about the fantastic beer selection but had never found myself out this way. Small brunch menu so don't go there wanting brunch....however $7.99 for a 3 egg roasted veggie wrap with goat cheese?? Yes please. The one with meat was $2 more. And it was delicious. Wrap was big and filling and came with some spicy hash browns. I had a beer of course and the true beauty was a real pint. Not a sleeve, not a 14 or 16 oz glass of beer calling itself a pint. I came in for lunch last Sunday with 3 other friends and it's safe to say none of us will return. One of my friends and myself decided to share the hot wings and the garlic chicken pizza. When we ordered HOT WINGS we expected HOT WINGS. Instead we received extremely DRY overcooked PLAIN wings with a side of hot sauce. I asked the girl who brought us our food (she was not our waitress) if they could toss the wings in the sauce. She took the wings back to the kitchen and returned saying NO they could now toss the wings that they do not do that here. WHAT?. I mean I can understand the miscommunication as to why we were initially brought these dry plain wings but to REFUSE our request to have the tossed in such a none-caring demeanor really made us re-think coming in at all. We would NOT have ordered the wings at all had we been informed they would come PLAIN DRY wings NOT hot wings. We all made jokes about ordering a bowl so we could simply do the work ourselves since they didn't seem to want to make their customers happy. By this point we now have COLD PLAIN DRY WINGS. I have never been so offended by a staff member as I was by this girl. She simply did not care AT ALL. I have worked with Earls for close to 9 years, 4 of which I was the night leader and never EVER in my years with the service industry would I ever treat a customer in such a way. By the way our waitress was Rachel, and she was great. I did not want to take our dissatisfaction out on her.. but the girl in blue who brought our food is the reason we will all be going to the Black Sheep for lunch next time. Real old world charm with the right level of dive bar appeal. Decent prices on flights of craft beer. Had trouble choosing a favorite. Cheerful servers and tasty food (had the chili and extra cornbread. Oh Yeah!!!) make for a pleasant evening, but the star of this show is the view. Get a window seat or sit in the outdoor patio and prepare to be entertained. Watch the freight trains pass, there were several. The Frasier river has a parade of cargo barges being pushed and pulled by tugboats. Even the groups of people walking their dogs are fun to watch.
