Service . tip was paid but shouldn't have . What does it take to throw a jug of water down for refills for designated driver. We went to Black Sheep Pub in Maple Ridge for dinner last night and it was not very good. We shared an order of yorkies for an appetizer. They served it with both gravy and beef dip. The yorkshire pudding was soggy and I don't know how long the roast beef had been sitting around. The beef tasted more than day old. For entrees my husband had barbecue beef ribs. The barbecue sauce tasted almost medicinal and the French fries were limp and tasteless. I had schnitzel neptune with bernaise sauce. It was supposed to have shrimp and crab but I did not see any crab and the bernaise sauce tasted like it was a poorly prepared prepackaged sauce that wasn't prepared properly. Prices are too high for the quality of the food served. The service was good and the restaurant has a nice comfortable feel to it with good seating and a nice ambiance. We would not return because the food was really mediocre, and we expect better for the prices that are charged. read more

The service tonight was provided by a lackadaisical server we've had in the past. At one point when we were waiting to order she was sitting at a table chatting with a couple of, I guess, her friends. Finally got our order in. Prime rib night. Prime rib was barely lukewarm as was the 'au jus'. I had asked for the gravy to be on the side , the meal came floating in it. The Yorkshire pudding was flat, and the vegetables were undercooked. She was lucky my husband was paying, she wouldn't have gotten a tip from me. There's no use commenting on 'how are the first bites' beyond saying fine because there is no interest in the answer and I don't honestly always trust sending food back to the kitchen. We happened to be driving back from the 'burbs on a miserable Saturday evening when we decided we just could not wait for dinner. Ever the diligent co-pilot, my wife looked up well-reviewed restaurants in the area and we agreed that Black Sheep was a worthy destination. The place was chockablock jam-packed upon arrival with a waiting list to boot. We were about 10th on the waiting list but within about 20 minutes, we were seated. Not long after that, probably sensing we were about to become hangry patrons, our waitress took our order. We both decided on a Blackened Chicken burger with fries. Let me tell you, three months after visiting Black Sheep, I'm still dieing to go back. That's how good the meal was. Our server was attentive all evening without being overbearing, and the overall vibe of the place was on point. This is somewhere you go to for a good meal and good company. One of my all time favorite restaurants around. The service is good, though it's usually always busy so be prepared for a possible wait. Their food is exceptional, so many delicious options. Sometimes we go for a few different appetizers, otherwise we'll do a shared appetizer and a main each, but always end up with leftovers as the portions are large. Highly HIGHLY recommend the Mushrooms Neptune, and the Spinach & Artichoke Dip plus Lettuce Wraps are super tasty too. My husband loves the French Onion Soup & Salmon Salad. We've tried tons of their mains, like pastas, burgers, schnitzels and all are delicious. We like the decor style inside, especially the extra large booths for groups, and their old fashioned games they have in a back corner. Definitely recommend! 5* all around! read more

Husband and I enjoy this Pub, we live in the Valley and often go for a drive and stop in there. We have never had a terrible meal there, once I had to mention my eggs weren't scrambled well (wet still) and mentioned to the server and she took them back and in a extremely short time came back with a new separate plate of the eggs ( for the record I'm extremely picky with my eggs husband would have eaten them) . That is the one and only time we ever had an issue, and as mentioned often stop in here. Can't beat the weekend breakfast special (2-2-2) and there other daily specials that have been tasty that we tried. The other item I enjoy is the Almond Chicken Meal or the Sweet & Sour Chicken Balls w/chowmein Meal. We have told several family members and friends of this venue, and ones that have gone agree with us that it's good food, good service, and a nice cheerful atmosphere. We like sitting in the area where the pool table is best. Nice having the fireplace there and the large windows to look at; decor is nice too: I know we'll be back soon. read more

I loved the Black Sheep and have gone there for years, since it was the small restaurant across the street. Before they built the new building. There was an excellent chef and the food was delicious. Lately I have not been happy with the quality of the meals they serve. I ordered ginger chicken and the chicken and the noodles were dry and tough to eat. Spicy Yaki chicken wings ($9.89) I had to ask what this was and she said spicy teriyaki... it wasn't spicy at all, but I did like it. They weren't super small wings, and they had enough sauce. IF they had a happy hour that included wings, I'd go back for just that. Thai Noodle Salad ($10.98) Ok... so everything in the bowl itself didn't have any flavour aside from whatever it was... all the flavour came from the sesame Thai dressing. There was a lot of dressing, which was nice because everything underneath still had dressing on it, but the dressing itself was a bit lackluster. There really want anything anything about it that made me think that this was beyond average. In all honesty, I would have preferred this salad with the Kraft peanut dressing. Stop 2 - The Black Sheep Liquor Store (Public House and Liquor Store), Maple Ridge, BC - January 23, 2021 The second restaurant in our adventure was The Black Sheep Public house (they don't have a FB page, just one for their liquor store) We arrived early and waited in the parking lot but soon realized how popular this place was. By the time they opened the doors they had a large line up even though it was quite chilly. As you walked in you were required to leave your names and phone numbers for Covid contact tracing if needed. Everyone wore a mask and they soon had us comfortably seated. This place had the normal Pub atmosphere which makes you feel like you are in for a lot of fun. So we imagine when Covid is not hanging over your head this must be a very lively Pubby place. (we can make up words that everyone will understand). The decor was modern and with the very large windows it was bright and cheery. We ordered the Charbroiled Steak Sandwich. Now it has been quite some time since we've had one of those and we have to say it was so tasty. (think one of us even moaned when they took their first bite.) Every morsel was eaten. The steak was perfectly medium rare and the home fries hot and crispy as were the onion rings. We have to mention here that one thing that always is so important to a place in the washrooms. This place had a huge modern and super clean washroom. And they had the garbage can right by the door where it should be so you can toss your towel into the garbage after opening the door to exit. The staff all wore face masks and despite the Covid times they were all super cheery. We would definitely go back and bring more family and friends. We give this Pub 5 stars out of 5. We are on a roll. PLEASE NOTE: We visited here before we came up with concept to log about this and thus didn't take any photos of our food, but we did find a photo online of the table we sat at. My buddy + I have been frequent visitors of this establishment. Over the years we've been service has been mixed, but nothing to complain about at all. Food selection is extensive as is the beer + wine list. I'm hoping management will read this, as I would like to draw their attention to one of there servers - Megan T who was nothing short of exceptional during our visit last night. I am visiting from Alberta. This is my second time to the Black Sheep in a week and I must say I was disappointed in Melody our waitress. After the four of us were seated we already knew what we were drinking and prepared as well to give our requests for lunch. It took forever to get our drinks....she never smiled the whole time we were there. Once severed our food she seemed to have dismissed us. We tried to place another round of drinks with another waitress with no success. When Melody finally came around and we explained we had placed another round of drinks she rudely told us that she is the only one who can place the order. Her attitude seemed as though she didn't even wanted to be there! Great people person....NOT! We asked for the bill and when one person said they were paying for two people you would of thought the world was going to end! She huffed away to add the two together ...which anyone of us would have gladly added it up for her! Sadly her service has left a sour taste in my mouth and I will not be returning to the Black Sheep...nor will I be recommending it to anyone! The other 3 that were with me are local residents. Haven't been back since my last experience here where I ordered a Veggie burger. It came rock solid like it was previously frozen and not cooked properly. I was very disappointed and sent it back and didn't order anything else. I used to get the Salmon Salad, which I had enjoyed but the quality of the salmon that they get is not that good. I'd rather get a good piece of Salmon and cook it at home. I'd maybe come back for fries and beer and that's pretty much it! read more

I have been going here for decades and I understand things get busy and waiting staff can be spread thin . We saw our waitress 3 times at our table , once to take our order then i had to flag her down as she passed for a takeout container as our plates sat at the end of the table and then finally to take our money . Dinning out is not cheap these days it would be nice to feel you got good service meal for your expense. Not my feeling after this last experience . So i expressed my disappointment with the tip . My bill was just over $60 and i am usually a good tipper having worked in the industry for years . But last night my my waitress got 1% and i cut a $20 bill and left the pieces minus the serial number. Hope she got the hint ! read more

Been coming here for 7 years. I knew the owner was greedy like any other but this is crazy to me, he raised all the prices on their appetizers 1/3 in price ($3-5), or close too, in the last 6 months. You can get chicken nuggets (snake bites) for 13.98 or get beef ribs dinner for 15.98.. if everything went up a bit in price id understand but for one area of the menu to go up exponentially and the rest stay the same, is disgusting on the owners part and explicitly shows his greed and lack of care for the community he serves. Waitresses are great on the other hand though, except for the one or two that will go out of the way to give you bad service, unless your drinking. read more

Their coworker friend, so we've discerned, must really love drinking, because their selection of beer is extensive (but that being said, they didn't have the ingredients for mojitos). We also figured this because the food wasn't good and the service wasn't good. Food: Greasy, wet onion rings. Bland chowder. "Poutine" with some sort of all spice in the gravy (and mozza, and it was baked). French onion soup that was very watery. Burgers were meh. We all spent time daydreaming about where else we could eat instead (and questioning how much of an alcoholic the coworker friend is). Service: Menus are stored under the table, and they didn't tell us right away (guess it's a place for locals, huh?). One of the drinks menu is missing pricing. It takes forever to get service. And when they do, it's just with the drinks, don't ask about food, take forever to do that and then come back. Asks one person for refill, doesn't check anyone else, had to flag. At one point was stuck holding the pinpad and waiting and waiting for the server to come back and do something with it. (Did you want me to process all of my table's bills?) Messed up on one food order. The only reason why this place gets foot traffic is probably because it's the only liquor store for a few kilometers. read more

Joining the family for a birthday dinner a few Saturdays ago, we decided to go to the Black Sheep Pub. Crowed and hoppin', it looks like it's the place to be in Maple Ridge on a Saturday evening. We only had to wait a short while for a table, and had our drink order taken immediately (Guinness on Tap), and within a few minutes, got our table. Most of the servers were running around crazy trying to get everyone served and fed, and you had to give it to them for the hustle and bustle - well; all except our server. I really wish I had gotten her name, as she was rude, curt, and always unsmiling. It actually was the worst part of our meal. I had a (Lightly Breaded) Halibut burger, but it was VERY heavy on the breading, but tasty, and sweet potato fries which could have used a few more minutes of cooking. Other than that, everyone seemed fairly happy with their meal. I'd go back, but if I saw our previous server, I'd ask for a different section. read more

Black Sheep Pub is probably one of Maple Ridge's best kept secrets. It's the king of all pubs. A treasure trove of better beers and wines (partially owing to how they keep a liquor store out back) and the place to be for timeless nights. I can not recommend any particular dish. Anything you order will not only taste better than its equivalent at another pub, its presentation will also be a real nice crowd pleaser. If you don't like Black Sheep Pub, you don't deserve to be out on this side of town. read more

You usually don't find me out here in the MIDDLE OF NO WHERE, and I can kinda call this bar to be that. I really wasn't gonna go to the party that my friend was having here, but I went anyways because I didn't want to stay home. When I first drove up the the bar, almost every car here was a pick-up truck. SO MANY OF THEM, and tbh I shouldn't be surprised since it is out of the city, and it makes sense. I saw my party and I sat with them without waiting, but I was sticking out like a sore thumb when I walked up to the door, the hostess greeted me in when I said my friends were here. The most amazing thing that really poked out at me was the decor. Like HOLY COW! Did you look up? There are GARGANTUAN liquor bottles. I was like holy shit.... what did I walk myself into... Why did this place feel so awesome and fun? I thought this was a blue neighborhood bar, filled with white people... But I was wrong. The waitress was extremely friendly with our table even though it was a large party. My cocktails were delicious, and I had so many wings that I was extremely full at the end of the night. I tried all the flavours with my friends. I really didn't expect such a fun bar in the middle of no where. Visited for lunch on a weekday. Not bad for a pub style menu. Lot of selection. They offer a variety of daily special/features. Our sever was prompt to say hello and get our service going. I enjoyed a cold draft beer and ordered the monte cristo sandwich. My company ordered the daily soup feature which was in his words "delicious". This pub is really close to my place so I'm happy that it was a pleasant experience. Will return for sure. read more
