Over rated food with the last event serving a shitty chewy steak not consumable with a chef coming out to take a bow to the crowd clapping . Get it right for change and real compliments will come . Any protein served so far has been around 3 oz and portions of other pairings are very small . One time they served an under cooked half quail smaller than a pigeon none of us ate . Not going again . When I came to Kingfisher's Bar & Grill, the place was moderately busy yet still managed to get a seating at the bar counter. I was captivated by the sights of the river from the inside of the restaurant, and thought it looked great during the winter. The interior of the bar & grill looked modern but also high-toned in design. I ordered the Cajun Pasta with the Pineapple Ginger Punch virgin cocktail for dinner. When I ordered the drink, the bartender told me that they had no pineapple juice, but used orange juice instead, which I thought made a better substitute. The ginger punch had a strong ginger-taste to it while still maintaining a solid good flavour. The pasta dish was exquisite. The rose sauce had a good zesty flavour that was not at any point overly spicy. The chicken and sun-dried tomatoes were great in it and went exceptionally good with the sauce. I also enjoyed the focaccia bread that came with the entrée. The bartender and servers were very serviceable and did not find myself waiting too long for anything. I think the standouts here are the drinks and service. The view is good but the Gillnetter in Port Coquitlam has a better view ... and a dock so you can boat on over. What a missed opportunity here. The food was just a no. They try to be elevated pub food but it just misses. The tomato soup tasted burnt and had a texture like whipped pudding not soup. The proteins overcooked and even when one was sent back it came back just the same - and worse still they didn't replace the sides after a 20 minute wait it was just put back on the same plate with cold potatoes and vegetables. The potatoes sounded lovely but were like wall paper paste and under seasoned. The whole meal needed salt. Just go for a drink and enjoy the view and head out for dinner. read more

The best thing about this place is the view! It's absolutely stunning at sunset! And the girl that was playing guitar and singing was absolutely wonderful! Two of us went to Kingfisher on August 18, 2022. We were seated on the balcony, right by the water. Another lady that I met in the bathroom said she was getting eaten alive by mosquitoes out on the balcony but we never had that issue ourselves. I ordered the fish tacos (I absolutely love fish tacos). These were three of the tiniest little tacos I have ever seen! I wish I had taken a picture but they were on maybe 4 inch round tortillas and had the tiniest little piece of fish in each one with some shredded cabbage and sauce. They were utterly flavourless and didn't even come close to filling me up. They should not be promoted as a meal, they are an appetizer. But the Nashville cauliflower florettes were awesome! I would order those every day of the week if I could. All in all, I would never order the fish tacos again, but I would definitely go back for the view and the entertainment. read more

Showed up right at opening, we were the first to be seated. We try to order oysters & mussels...but they are "out". Korean wings were quite good. Nice flavour. Tuna tataki wasn't bad, Cactus Club's is way better. Quesadilla was awful. So bad. Dry. Cheap cheese and some chunks of chicken. A 5 year old could make a better quesadilla. How dare they charge $20 for this gas station tasting food. French onion soup had a loaf of bread in the middle. Fish and chips...fish was fine. Fries were utter garbage. In my opinion, the best spot in Maple Ridge! I came here for brunch with a large group of friends on the patio overlooking the river and it was beautiful. They had great brunch drinks and interesting and innovative food options! I got the west coast eggs benny which was served on a scone, which I was skeptical about but it was delicious. They gave you a generous portion of smoked salmon with lots of capers and a delicious dill hollandaise. I got yam fries instead of potatoes because I'm picky and restaurants usually don't make them crispy enough for my liking, but my friend got them and they looked unreal. It also came with a side salad which was mixed greens and a lemon oil dressing. It was very nice and light to counteract the richness of the rest of the meal. I noticed lots of people around me at other tables got the fish and chips, and this restaurant is apparently known for their seafood so I can't wait to come back and try more on the menu! read more

Went for dinner a couple days ago and was slightly disappointed with the food, especially for the price we were paying for! I was so excited to try the seafood linguini and it was very bland. It tasted like it was sautéed in just unsalted butter.. I must say there was a decent amount of seafood so that was great. I just wish there was more flavour! I added some lemon and lots is Frank's hot sauce so it did help a bit. Maybe I will try again another time! It could've been a one off? I have come here a few times however and the food doesn't ever blow me away. This was our first date night out since the start if covid, and our first Visit to KingFishers. We arrived to a beautiful restaurant set on the side of the river with stunning views. We sat on the open patio (there is also a covered patio) Our server was Brendan. He was knowledgeable about drinks and made a educated suggestion of a darker more full bodied beer for my us. We ordered the Korean spiced winged for appetizer and they didn't disappoint, spicy , sweet with a nice warm heat, tons of flavour and well cooked. (Not blow your head off hot) my wife ordered the Vietnamese prawn Salad and I ordered the Korean beef sandwich. The sale was large and very fresh, with a delicious dressing. Our only negative would have been that for the price of the salad a third set of prawns would have been nice. I had the beef sandwich with mac and cheese, the sandwich was delicious and had tons of flavour was not dry at all. The mac and cheese was delicious. We shared a strawberry rhubarb pie for dessert, the pie crust was flakey, delicious and buttery. The filling was a delicious combination of sweet and tart. The service was exceptional, Brendan showed great attention to detail and interest in his customers, he was personable and honest with any questions we had regarding items on the menu or drinks. In short: establishment run by staff who lack integrity, food isn't good. - wrote an email to GM to voice concern, word got back to me that the staff of this pub frequents the Keg and complained to their staff about me complaining and how demanding I was. Here's what happened: Went to the restaurant a few weeks back in the afternoon with friends and colleagues. Burger was asked for well done, came back pink. They redid it but took more than an hour, we had to leave and they put the burger in a to-go box for her. Didn't charge for burger but charged $3 for the salad that came with the burger. House salad was overdressed so it was a pile of limp and soggy spring mix. Home baked bread was like dough with grill marks on it. Only plate left on the table and multiple servers failed to address it. Mussels so overdone that they came to the size of a child's thumbnail swimming in an overly salty broth. Didn't bother sending back. Wrote the GM an email outlining the above and wanted to give them another chance. Said he'd email back with a gift card for friend who had the burger but over a week now no response. read more

We have been visiting the Kingfisher Bar & Grill for many years, as many of our friends perform there. A few days ago we went there again to celebrate our mother's 95th birthday. The place was dark, no candles or lights on the table. We were a party of 9. After we ordered, we waited well over an hour to get our food. The food was not hot. Not only that, our mother, the guest of honour, had to wait another 15 minutes after everybody else had their food already. This hidden gem by the old Albion ferry in Maple Ridge is well worth the drive. The Kingfisher has a wide selection of beers and a great covered waterfront patio on the river to enjoy them on. The building is classy, yet retains a homey pub feel while the food takes standard pub fare to a different level. There are also a number of more refined dishes on the menu so there is something for any appetite. The service has been exceptional every time I've visited and the prices are a great value for the quality of the food. Speaking of food, the fish and chips are coated in a light beer batter and served with well-spiced handcut fries, easily competing with the best White Rock has to offer. Time for an update ... since our initial review we have been twice and had a better experience. But last night's experience requires a new review. Don't go ... unless its for the drinks, the band or the patio. The appetizers were disappointing and one dessert almost inedible. Bread Pudding should not be crunchy and require cutting with a knife. Appies deep fried were cooked too long OR the oil needed changing ... the batter too thick and doughy. Not the tempura batter indicated in the menu. Menu also indicated condiments came with the meat and cheese platter ... they did not. Server assured us the platter was correct. So dry bread, some interesting cheeses, but Safeway Deli level meats.The Scotch Egg had too little sausage to appreciate and was so undercooked the egg yolk ran out when cut. read more

Here for lunch on a sunny Thursday bike ride. Great service with a smile. Had the salmon crab burger, and according to their website they "handcraft" all their food so I assume the patty was made in house. As the taste of fish wasn't too significant I'd say it was made in house but fresh frozen because the texture was still very fluffy and juicy. Freezing foods tends to degrade the taste a tad. The patty also wasn't significantly salty which is a hint it's not "factory" packed. Not much taste of crab but hey it's no fine dinning. The bun and veges toppings were all fresh, served with a portion of salad that very lightly sauced. All in all a very well made burger for a pub. Burgers were priced around $12-13, other dishes like pasta were around 20. Since everything is made in house I'd say the pricing is right on. I have been to the Kingfishers a couple of times with my family and it has always been a pleasant experience. The atmosphere is alway great especially if you can get a table on the patio, and the food is usually pretty decent. This time I went because this is where my sister wanted to go for her birthday dinner. Being a Saturday night, we were glad that we made a reservation because it was very busy. Starting with the fact that I had to park on the street as there was no parking in the parking lot, and there was a line up of people waiting for a table. The evening started with drinks. All of us girls started with one of the coolest inventions in my mind when it comes to drinks, a Bellini bomb! It's basically a Bellini with a mini bottle of champagne upside down in the drink yummy... Very good, but boy were they potent and kind of pricy after looking at my bill at the end of the night. Dinner was really good. I ended up having the halibut that was on their special menu. The portion was good, but the flavor was a bit bland for the price of the dish. Everyone else seemed to enjoy their meals, and maybe it was the Bellini bomb talking but I really enjoyed my evening. I would return, but maybe try something else on their menu. read more

Kingfisher As a long time resident of Maple Ridge and frequent patron of this establishment I am disheartened that I have to write this review. This afternoon I stepped into Kingfisher with five of my closest friends to enjoy some appetizers and drinks. The experience began like any other, we were politely offered drinks and food by our friendly server. As we enjoyed our meal we were politely offered refills and promptly served. We were slightly loud, but not overly so. We were not violent, disrespectful or at all belligerent. After three of us had drank three drinks over the period of about an hour and a half we asked one of the servers for another round. This began our waiting period of over half an hour before our server came back to our table. In this period he found the time to visit every single table around us and have lengthy conversations with them. I must admit, he was very skillful at avoiding us no matter what the cost. After about thirty minutes we were able to get his attention and inquiry about the drinks we have ordered. After informing him that we have ordered another round his response, down to the last word, was "that's nice but you're not getting them." Firstly, we were not showing any sign of excessive drinking. Secondly, even if his professional judgement led him to believe he should not serve us, he could have found a polite way to inform us of the fact and ask us to settle up and leave. Unless you have some sort of kink, one does not walk into a restaurant and except to be treated like trash by their servers. One does not expect to walk into a restaurant and wait to be judged, disrespected or otherwise dictated to by their servers. I'm sure your middle aged friends probably find your sarcasm and humour extremely funny and welcomed, but perhaps next time you clock into your shift you can check that at the door and treat your customers with the respect that they deserve. For the first time in my entire life I tipped someone less than 20%. I hope you find my 2 cents tip extremely ironic and sarcastic, since that seems to be your thing. read more

Seeing a beer taster get passed to another customer, I had to get one too. I always find them the best deal. You get to try 3-4 different beers for the price on one. Shame, that the version at "Kingfisher" only used 3 of the 4 cut out slots on the beer paddle. They called this their Weekend summer beer flight. You got three tasters for $9. Your selection included the "Hoyner pilsner", the "new grist gluten free" beer, and the "hay fever saison". All light, one tangy, and you could tell which one was gluten free. The menu was thorough with a fairly large selection from pastas to burgers. But nothing really jumped out as a must try. Also you don't want to pay $20 plus for a dish you potentially won't like, at a place where you don't know how good the cooking is. We instead decided to share three safer appetizers. I think the best way to judge a bar is by how well they do the usual classics. Bar fare that is available at all other bars. In this we felt that "Kingfisher" had its hits and a few misses. The later it got, the busier it got, and we lost service from all the staff. It was considered a Monday night at any bar in Vancouver, but here everyone was scurrying and staff kept their eyes down, lest they be hailed for help. An over crowded bar and forgotten requests warranted a small tip. At the end we gave up on packing our leftovers to go, and left un-noticed. This was after we made attempts to hail one of the two bartenders. After 15 minutes we got up to leave. It was only then did they turn to our direction, though only to check that the bill was paid in full. Not even a "goodbye" or "thank you". They just wanted the seats for two locals waiting with the herd of others at the restaurant foyer. Would I come back? - No. Would I recommend it? - No. The distance to travel is considered more than out of the way. The river was beautiful, but we didn't get a chance to enjoy it. And with a wait time of an hour plus it was not worth the time spent. You could leave your name and come back, but there is nothing around to see, and you would only loose a hard sought out parking spot. The food was only alright with both strong and weak points in each dish. Definitely nothing different or better than if we had ordered this else where. The staff were unfocused and seemed to buckle under pressure. So a trip out here for this is not worth your effort. But this was definitely the bees knees in the boonies. read more
