We were in Old Forge to hike the Bald Mountain fire tower and go to the water park. Both of those were great but the food at Billy's may have been the highlight! Being from Brooklyn, NY I'm sometimes apprehensive about Italian Restaurants when traveling but those thoughts were quickly extinguished when i started in on sausage stuffed hot peppers! The pulled pork pasta was outrageous, my kids had standards, chicken parm and spaghetti and meatballs and this is where you can really tell if an Italian place is up to snuff. Yes! I would rate zero stars if possible. We had gone in personally at 3:30 to make reservations for 6:30 because we had a large party of twelve. We were told it was no problem and they were excited to serve us at our chosen time. Upon arrival (15 minutes early to our reservation), our reservation had been SCRATCHED OUT AND GIVEN AWAY TO THE OWNERS FRIENDS! The owner was unapologetic and told us he was "embarrassed" as he slouched over the counter claiming it wasn't his fault and there was nothing he could do about it. He was rude and said someone took us off the list (which he showed us) and told us he was only able to seat 5 of us. He did not say he could seat us at a later time, another day, offer us a discount of any type, or recommend any nearby restaurants or offer ANY help of any kind for our troubles. Billy's is a small intimate 15 table Italian restaurant in the middle of Old Forge. Prices are fairly reasonable (most meals are $15-19), portions are huge, and service is friendly and attentive. They play the most cliche Italian songs over and over again on the stereo and the food is pretty average Americanized Italian food but it's not that bad. I had pulled pork over rotini which I had never heard of but it was pretty good and one of the people I was with got the "hats" which is a thick doughy type of pasta (shaped like a hat) that is brought in from Utica (which is where this specific type of regional pasta originates from). If you're looking for a decent Italian meal in the Adirondacks, chances are you won't be too disappointed with Billy's. read more

We've had a summer house in Old Forge for over 30 years and we just tried Billy's this year for the first time. We've gone back at least once a week since for the month we've been here, tried different dishes each time and everything has been delicious! Had a nice meal last night. The owner is very congenial and welcomed and said good night to most patrons. The wait staff are young women who worked and flowed well together. They were quite busy and that did not affect our great service and timely delivery of food. The food was all wonderful from our calamari appetizer to our lobster ravioli entree. They serve fresh baked bread which was yummy. My wife had the Seafood Bianchi which was great. We finished with delicious carrot cake and coffee. Items to note. Stopped here for dinner a month ago and the food was fair and very over priced. Owner has a serious attitude and could care less about his customers. He use to be a waiter at this same place when it was owned by the last owner who moved down the road. We had issues with him then too and his attitude. Billy Burns is an amazing man! His food was terrific and the service was top notch. More importantly he is a man of honor. The night I dined at his place, he overheard me telling my friends about my non profit organization EAMF.org and heard how we support parents of children with life threatening illness and he handed me a check for $100.00!! Haven't eaten here but the attached liqour store is badass... They deliver to within 5 miles, no joke.

We love this place and bring any friends and family who are in Old Forge visiting. We don't live here full time but Billy's is still one of our favorite restaurants and we try to get there every time we are up here. The food is always great and you have to try Billy's homemade tiramisu- awesome! The staff is friendly and efficient no matter how busy. I snowmobnhile in the Old Forge area. Billie's is the BEST Restaurant in Old Forge. I have been coming here for 30 years. Went to Billies after Frankie left and moved accross the street. Billie is the only owner in Old Forge that greets you at the door and follows up all evening to make sure you are satisfied. Try it one time and you will have a hard time not goinmg back. Last night 9/9/16 we had dinner at Billy's , I pulled a piece of plastic from inside my mouth that was cooked in with the ziti . Quietly I motioned for the waitress , I whispered what has happened ( the place was rather busy ) she the waitress said in a NON quiet voice .... oh that's the plastic from the packaging and apologized ... she informed and showed the plastic to the owner ( Billy ) who was present assisting with guests . Billy made no attempt to converse with us whatsoever about the issue . I in turn , finished my meal , paid the 47.00 bill , and left a 10.00 tip with no commotion... Be prepared to overeat! Billy is a terrific host and will bend over backwards to serve you. The food is classic Italian and delicious. A true 'mom and pop' type of Italian restaurant that you you just can not find very often. I'm only giving one star because I'm not able to give zero. After a long day of hiking a swimming my group and I were looking forward to a delicious meal at Billy's, a place that came highly recommended. From the first moment we entered the door however it all went down hill. We were greeted by Billy himself who was hasty and aggressive in asking "what do you want?!?" We were taken aback at his rudeness and explained we were famished and hoping to get a table for 6. "NO!" Billy's shouted, "Are you a damn retard?!?" " Can't you see how busy I am!?!" " if you want to wait till 8:45 and eat whatever's left in the kitchen with the cooks and stray cats then that's all you'll get". He then said" I've got paying customers, get out of my way!"as he shoved my pregnant wife out of the way. This I couldn't stand for, I confronted Billy to apologize but he only became more enraged. He chased us outside with a chefs knife. I told him he was crazy and that I was calling the police. Billy then screamed " go ahead, they can't touch me,I fucking run this town!!" As he then threw a was of $100 bills on the air saying "Get out of here your no better than the vermin that live in my store room" I was very disappointed and certainly had to share this story to hopefully prevent anyone from having such a horrible time as we did. read more

Don't understand how this place is #2 on the list for the area...we made reservations several days in advance knowing that we were going to be staying in the area. Upon arrival, the owner acted like we were crashing a private party. I reminded him that we had reservations, and he rudely said that he could see that. My husband had a broccoli & pasta entree that could only be described as a very small bowl of almost all broccoli with a lot of garlic. I had a pasta dish with supposedly roasted red peppers & chicken...both of switch I had to hunt for. There was plenty of pasta but it was covered with a bleu cheese sauce that had a "musty" taste. Both dinners came with salad with no choice on dressing....a very sharp balsamic...all my experiences with balsamic have always been a smooth almost sweet flavor. The bread was excellent....but for $61.00 bucks with no alcohol, I'd like to say, I wish the meals had been as good as the bread. Will be going back to Frankie's when we are in the area. read more
