I traveled 40 miles and spent two hours between the waiting and the processing only to be told that since I was over 66 that I needed a doctor's release to donate. I contacted a medical facility and obtained a release and scheduled an appointment to donate. I again spent over an hour before being told that they need the medical release on their form and then their doctor had to approve it and I would be contacted within two weeks. I saw the CLS facility down the street and stopped there. After an initial donor screening and physical I was able to donate and was in and out in 90 minutes. CLS all the way. I'm able to do something that helps people and earned enough for gas money and a nice lunch.

We showed up on time and checked in at the front desk where they had us complete a thorough health screening. They gave us a free Amy's ice cream voucher and a Halloween themed T-shirt for donating that day. The center is clean, and I was comfortable in my seat. The phlebotomists are friendly and professional. Mine did a great job prepping me and finding my vein; I did not end up with a big bruise or any discomfort afterwards. It only took around 8-10 minutes to complete the process of blood collection. After we finished our donation, they provided us with plenty of snacks and made sure to go over after care instructions. I highly encourage you to donate if you are eligible! One unit of blood can save up to three lives.

Around November 7th, 2022. I contacted the Red Cross after my father died. I was requesting help…read moregetting my nephew, sent home for the funeral. I was overwhelmed by the kindness and concern that was given. They immediately contacted my nephews, commanding officer, and made sure he could get the time off of work. I received an email the next morning, telling me that they had contacted his commanding officer. They contacted me by telephone after to make sure that he, had sufficient funds for his air line ticket, and if he needed help getting a ride to the airport. I received a call and email asking if everything was taken care of and if there was anything else that they could do to assist us. During this time I'm sorry I didn't write and say how wonderful they were. Today I received a questionnaire, asking me how they did. I n thinking about this I realized they really deserved a big shout out. So if you're thinking about donating to an organization, I would recommend the Red Cross wholeheartedly. This is a change in my mindset due to my families dislike of the Red Cross over the years for something that happened I believe in World War II! Or Korean conflict! Me, the woman in charge, & her coworker were the only ones in the building. Verrrry quiet & all attention was directed to me. Paperwork took most of the time and it was explained very thoroughly before signing. Seeing as this was just my initial appointment, they only did a blood collection of 6-7 vials to test for diseases before I am permitted to donate white blood cells once cleared. The blood collection was taken in a very cushy chair where you're almost laying down. Afterwards, they gave me water and a snack and made sure I was ok. In the end, I was given $25 for the initial appointment. When you do an actual white blood cell donation (which I was told can take up to 3-4 hours!) the payout is a lot more. They also told me they have things like iPads with Netflix, magazines, etc to help keep you occupied during that time. They also gave me a free shirt! They told me that they had been up and running for 2 years but just started accepting clients within the last year. Anywho, the employee whom worked with me was super down to earth and great to talk to & answered all my questions. I'm currently waiting to hear back regarding white blood cell studies now so that I can start donating :) seems like a wonderful facility doing great work!

They are still able to get the needle in no problem. They almost always have a free gift for donations. This month was a free shirt last month was a free Torchy's Taco. The facility is clean and everyone is friendly. Good place to help others..
