Today, I took my mother to donate blood. She speaks Arabic and only has very basic English skills. I tried to help translate for her, but I was told that she had to answer all the questions herself or she would not be allowed to donate. I asked if they had a translator available, even over the phone, and they said no. I then asked if we could use Google Translate to help communicate, and again I was told no. So does that mean my mother must speak English in order to donate blood? It was very disappointing to see someone willing to help others by donating blood turned away because of a language barrier. I hope this policy can be improved so non-English speakers have a fair opportunity to donate as well. read more

Dealing with the general public isn't easy. They do a great job getting you in and out. I have been donating a long time and have scar tissue built up on my veins. They are still able to get the needle in no problem. They almost always have a free gift for donations. This month was a free shirt last month was a free Torchy's Taco. It's so important to pitch in and help out whenever you can by donating blood, and I'm a regular here. I honor my mom, a nurse who died in 2013, by making appointments to donate on her birthday and death date every year so that her legacy can help give life to more people. The facilities here are pretty bare bones and the staff varies, but usually it's a pretty perfunctory in-and-out procedure. Occasionally, I'll have to wait a bit longer than expected. There could be upgrades made to make the experience more cozy, but I'm guessing they're operating on a pretty tight budget. One thing I would advise is not to fill out the Quickpass until the morning/day of your appointment -- I filled it out the night before when it was emailed to me and was told they delete them at midnight the night before your appointment. Then you have to fill out the information again. Not the most customer friendly system. You just have to keep in mind what you're there for. read more

I've always done blood donations at their mobile trucks, but this time I've opted to try donation at their Round Rock donor center. It definitely has its perks. The whole process is the same, but without the loud rumbling of the truck and the cramped space. The staff here are super friendly and I essentially got my own physician standing by me the whole time. The trucks are definitely a lot more convenient and I'll continue to utilize them, but if you have the chance to take advantage of their donor center, I would definitely recommend it. read more

I always donated via Bloodmobile. First time in a brick & mortar center. This method fits my schedule a bit better - especially it is just a 30 minute drive. As all my past donations - the techs are friendly and are very good at what they do. COVID-19 protocols gave me confidence that they will not spread the virus at this facility. read more

I'd give 0 stars if I could. We Are Blood was scheduled to show up to my job to do a company wide donation. The staff (all 3 women) were completely rude. none of them smiled, they acted like they hated their job and to make matters worse, the woman with bright pink hair and 1,000 piercings on her face spoke to me like I was an idiot. That was my first experience donating blood and I did it for earth day and to give back to the community but We Are Blood completely ruined that for me. I will never attempt to donate blood again. I've also let my job know NOT to partner with them again either. There are plenty of other organizations that we partner with that show up to our company with class and respect. read more

Both my doctors office and a friend recommended We Are Blood. However, I'm not allowed to donate there because I have a pacemaker. Even the pacemaker clinic was surprised to hear that, it doesn't really make any sense with today's technology. read more

This is a great blood donation center! Get over here and donate some blood! I've been donating blood regularly since I turned 18 and have been to a lot of donation centers and this is one of the nicer ones I have been to. Here's why: -The people who work there are all friendly, helpful, and all were very nice. -You can make an appointment or just walk in off of the street. -The center is very clean and well lit. Its organized and well laid out. -Their system is set up to be fast and easy. You can be in and out in under an hour, minus a pint of blood, of course :) -You can make an account and keep track of your vitals at the time of donation, including cholesterol tests that are performed on each donation. Nice bonus for sure! -Free cookies and all you can drink apple juice after your donation pretty much says it all. -For each donation, you can earn points for swag. Yay for free stuff! I hadn't donated blood since I was in high school but when I heard that the blood supply levels were low in Austin and friend and I decided to go bleed for the common good. My blood type is the universal donor, O negative, so I'm ashamed that I haven't gone more often. This center is in a downtrodden strip mall between a dollar theater and a dollar general. I probably would've turned around and gone somewhere else but my friend drove and she'd gone there before so I was stuck (haha). The office space was being renovated so a donation drive bus was parked out front. This made me a bit nervous but once inside I felt more at ease. There were only two seats to wait and register with the attendant. The good part is the place was really full. I would say there were six people in line getting ready for some bloodletting. The registration was easy and now I have an account that can be used at any blood center of central texas. Every time you donate you get some points added to your account that you can redeem for little prizes like t shirts and coffee mugs. I think that's a really smart way to motivate donors to come in more often. Before getting down to the business I was shown into one of two tiny cupboard sized offices where I was asked many disturbing questions ranging from the expected ones about drug use and sex partners to a panoply of diseases I've never heard of. Thankfully my only "yes" was whether or not I've had pneumonia. After the awkward question time the nurse performed a small pin prick test for my iron levels and a quick check for my vitals. I was asked if I preferred a right or left arm and was seated in a built in lounge chair. A nice young guy painted iodine all over my inner arm, handed me a squishy ball, then stuck a needle in my arm. I watched my blood run through the tubing to a little bag resting on a scale. While I filled the bag he tapped into the line and filled a few vials for various testing. I was told I was a fast bleeder. I took this as a compliment. Once the bag in the scale reached the right weight (after maybe 8 minutes) a little alarm went off and I was done. I held my arm over my head for a minute while they wrapped a little bandage around it then I was directed to another little seating area at the front of the bus where there was a small snack bar. I took an orange gatorade and a package of nutter butters then went on my way. All in all it was relatively painless and provided plenty of smug factor! Oh and that helping other people thing. I went in with my son this afternoon to donate blood. He donates regularly I decided sense I was with him that I would also. Big mistake the lady that was going to take my blood was having a hard time finding my veins saying they were small. I should have taken that as a warning sign. It hurt quite a bit when she inserted the needle and after a minute said it wasn't working and my vein started swelling I asked her to stop. Now my arm is black and blue swollen and hurts like hell I believe she burst a vein. So much for donating blood. I don't know if she wasn't trained properly or what but she should have asked someone else to help. read more

Nice facilities and staff, but a number of operational problems. First, each time you visit is just like the initial one -- you have to completely fill out the same forms over and over with no option to do something as easy an update. Also, you can't read and do anything in advance because their website doesn't allow it. You will - very literally - spend more time on paperwork than donating blood. read more

Jen is the sweetest thing to ever take my blood. But Gabe who has been there a few years is the best tech the company has. All the techs go to him if they need help. He never misses from what I have heard. My veins are pretty hard veins to get. The Red Cross never has gotten successful pint from me. But Gabe never fails. read more
