Donating plasma can be done to help others, to get some extra cash, or for the free physical you get when donating. I went in, not knowing I'd get a physical, though it does make sense. Every time you donate, you get blood drawn to verify your eligibility, but even if you aren't eligible, they tell you why so you know your health stats, what you work on, etc. [[HIGHLIGHT]]Everyone is always very cheerful and welcoming.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] [[HIGHLIGHT]]I admit I got more than a bit anxious causing my pulse to go up and they were very understanding, as well as helpful in tips for increasing my iron (it was a bit low, barely high enough).[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] The donation process has been smooth every time I go in, friendly and efficient staff plugs me into the machine, if I need them I know how to get them, and I can catch up on my audio book, reading, or just mess around on my phone. It's not worth your time or them paying you pennies for your plasma. The management is the issue. Brian and the center manager both are terrible. They don't respect their nurses or support staff and DEFINITELY don't respect the donors. They have a few puncture professionals on the floor that are inexperienced and poorly trained. If they harm you, you have no way of making sure they don't get a chance to hurt you again, due to their policies. This policies don't work in favor of the donor. I would recommend going to any other plasma center over this place. CSL is a little unprofessional but they pay better and treat you better. read more

I have not been to the Biolife on Staples Mill Road but the one in Colonial Heights I go to regularly. The last few times I've been there. I've not been very happy when I leave. Either of the machines aren't working or they tell me my pulse is too high, which is usually the same nurse each time that tells me I'm not eligible. Bathrooms are always clean. BioLife is a perfect example of why most people don't even consider plasma centers unless they are in a dire spot. I came here more than 20 times since it served as a source of additional income but it's just not worth the pain, hassle, and sheer obnoxiousness that it entails. Let's highlight the most important factors and why they are a problem here: 1) Pay: The first-time donor bonuses are admittedly impressive (about $1000 for first eight visits total), but it drops off steeply after that. Previously you could expect to get $150 a week (two visits), but they have since dropped it to $125 a week, which makes it barely worth it. Sending the money to your checking account takes a lot of setup so be prepared to mess around at ATMs if you aren't technical enough to set that up. 2) Staff: half are okay and half are just plain not interested (or skilled) in their jobs. I've had new employees mess up my initial draw by breaking pipettes, mess up the computer entry so things have to be started over, and various issues during the actual draw (highlighted below). 3) The draw itself: wow, does this take forever. They advertise 90 minutes on their website but I think I've had maybe two draws hit that target. Most visits take upwards of two hours and I've had visits take as long as three. On top of that, there are very few skilled phlebotomists here, and many times they have had to reposition the needle to get the blood flowing (and trust me, my veins are just fine). I've also had the machines mess up the return cycle a few times which has lengthened visits. 4) Center: lately they have been having major internet issues which messes up all appointments. They give you a "comeback" card which gives you an extra $50 over two visits but that's barely worth the annoyance of messing up your schedule. Recently they gave me a card for their network being down and then gave me another card the next visit for messing up the pipettes, so they really need to step up their game if they want to avoid these payouts. 5) Other donors: while it's not the center's fault who it attracts, I do feel it's important to note that a good chunk of donors are downright rude to each other. I was accosted outside the center one time simply for not having a lighter to lend. That's not acceptable and this place could use some security. 6) Emails: they flood your inbox with emails begging you to donate (even if you already have donations scheduled) despite continuing to lower compensation. Once I finish my current round of donations (you're kind of forced to to get the full payments), I will be unsubscribing from all that nonsense and be glad to be rid of them. The one bright spot here is their app is quite good, and it is very easy to reschedule appointments and track your pay. Parking is also easy and I've never had a problem there. If you are truly in dire need of money, maybe do the new patient visits to get that $1k, then run far away. It's just not worth the risks and unpleasantness. read more

I have been late in the day and they turn people away at the bed all the time - that should have been caught at front when they take sample , blood pressure, weight and check your arms. and no after all that you do not get paid. Thought I would take advantage of the money for blood/plasma offered by this group. Seemed easy enough at first. That was 2 weeks ago. My first visit was a physical and they could not find a vein. Ok. Have had trouble in the past. Said to come back in 2 weeks. Here now for a 1pm appointment. Waited 1/2 hour. Stuffed in small 15x20 room with 6 others also waiting. Then went through a vein check. They found one. Now still waiting to go through a very lengthy screening process in a room filled with more than 30 people all waiting at various different staging stations. All looking bored and pissed for waiting more than 1 & 1/2 hours or longer to be processed. Just because you wear a thin dirty lab coat doesn't make you a medical professional. So many just standing or sitting just waiting. Plan to be there for more than 3 hours waiting. Make sure your phone is fully charged or bring a power supply. I'll update this as I go through the process. Still waiting. Completed a very lengthy touch screen questionnaire that asked everything from if I had been in prison to if have I had sex with a man to numerous hazard warnings from feinting to death. What ever tests they give, you will never learn the results, they are kept confidential even from yourself. Got here at 12:50 for my 1pm appointment and it's now 2:15pm and still waiting. Update: by 3:15pm during the physical I was told that because I have sleep apnea I must get a doctor release. The processing stopped there and was given a form to give to my doctor to fax back. Then they would call me to set up another 3 hour appointment. That makes a total of 5 hours I've waited. I should charge them $30/hr for my time. The employees seem organized with all the places for donors to wait standing or sitting but really it looks very disorganized. You will get poked with a needle to test your blood each time you visit. More than 75% of the employees are new and being trained. Now I'm at my own doctor and waiting another hour to give him these forms to sign. If you plan on going you need to block out the entire day, bring a phone charger and you must be 100% healthy. I get the healthy part but the disorganized waiting for 3 hours is over the top. I have never seen so many bored people in one room! The employees treat you like a number and talk above you while they train others. You are the guinea pig. read more

Very disappointed in the accommodations for high anxiety I actually dread going to this place because of that , the people who take the vitals are not very friendly either I donated at csl and they were always so friendly and accommodating because they understand pulse issues and how they shouldn't hold you back I'm very disappointed in how this place is ran it needs to change also like others have said I called to complain to a manager and see if there can be something done about it and the only answer you get is it's corporate policy that's not an answer or a solution they really need to step up read more

This was my first time attempting to donate plasma in general. The facility is clean and social distanced. The staff at the front desk are neither friendly nor rude. They are unemotional and robotic. The process begins by taking your personal information and this is relatively painless if you've followed their requirements. Once you've passed the identification process and the arm inspection, you are then passed along to the vitals station to check your protein, hematocrit, weight and bp. Then you are ushered to a computer to answer questions. I chose to be honest about my answers relating to my mental health and this is what ultimately got me deferred. They didn't care about the medication I was on but more disturbed about my diagnoses. My mental health is stable but because I have 2 minor diagnoses my dr needs to complete paperwork saying I am eligible to donate. I am not sure what my mental health diagnoses has to do with plasma but I accepted it. Ultimately, I probably will not go back regardless of the paperwork by my dr because the process is long. I was there 1.5 hours and wasn't through the physical portion of it. If you are depending on the money from your donation, then think hard about your answers to the questions. Use my review to help you make your decision about your answers. I've always known mental health has stigma around it but I was reminded today. I felt as if I couldn't make decisions about my own body. I'm sure lots of people aren't honest about their health because they want/need the money. read more

Seller beware! This facility is not practicing safety regulations during the covid pandemic. People are not, I say not? 6 ft apart! You got people walking by you that are 2 ft away from you, and with the new variants out there this place is going to be a super spreader!another warning! They discriminate against diabetics! They do not tell you that on the phone, they wait until they gather all of your personal data, which they have you sign a waiver saying that they can sell it to third parties, and then they send you to a nurse after spending two hours going through the process. The very last question that was asked of me from the nurse was are you diabetic? I said yes. She said that I would need a note from the doctor and she would give me a form for him to fill out and I would have to come back and presented before I could donate. Well guess what? Doctors charge to fill out forms! my doctor would not send the A1C information because it's old and I'm due for another A1C next month and my insurance won't cover it, so that's another $50! So basically I wasted 2 hours only to give them my personal information for them to sell! So I wasted two hours of my time not to be compensated in any way but they certainly did! I called and spoke with the center's supervisor, and asked why don't you ask that question right up front instead of putting people through this 2-hour process.? she said it's corporate policy how they do it. I asked why don't they keep a hemoglobin test for A1C since it's so important? She said it's corporations policy. no apologies for taking up my time after I explained I'm a full-time caregiver and only get so many hours out of the house per week.Again beware!
