The phlebotomists here for the most part are excellent. The folks working the screening area are slow and this morning I was told there was an hour and a half wait just to get on the questions. WTF. There are two other plasma centers in Kalamazoo, neither one of them is nearly as slow. What a crap show. Almost everyone here is reasonably nice except for Jadah. She is a pure ass hole. Calling her rude is an insult to rude people. She can stick but she has the crappiest people skills imaginable. telling donors to hurry up cause she called their name twice is unacceptable. No people skills at all. read more

This place does what it wants and treats people as ignorant leftovers of society! Possibly many donate for money but people also donate for other reasons. It should not be assumed that we are all classless people. The order in which people are called never seems fair but rather by favorites. The televisions have not worked since I started coming and according to the staff "nothing gets fixed". The staff feels and conveys they are overworked, overwhelmed and underpaid. It is sad! Very friendly staff but this place is horribly managed. People weren't receiving correct paper work and staff were losing track of many things. I understand being understaffed but figure out a new way to do the waiting list so that I'm not sitting around for 3 hours in the waiting room. read more

I've tried to donate several times before. Rolly/invisible vein problems. Finally made it to the chair as a first time donor. The process took a few hours which could be understood if they were busy. According to the staff, it was a slow day. Still, I'd rather have things done correct vs not. They did acknowledge the pre-process seemed longer than usual and now I was in the system so it should be much faster any other time. Kinda wish they would tell you the steps so new people knew what to expect next. I was marked as "red" which means difficult to draw. When hitting the chair, I told the tech. She was great. She did some machine set up while waving over another. In the end, only two techs were allowed at my line, presumably because of the red status. One, I think, is the A-person that another yelp review mentioned. She does seem short, almost like she's got other things to do but I feel like it's just her demeanor. I was asked to wave and ask any tech to find one of the two if the machine started beeping. It did so I did. Within 1 minute I had one of the two techs assisting my blown vein and debating return. Ended up donating about 1/4 the bottle and was treated for the impending bruise very well. The lump in my arm was golf ball size. About 12 hours later (as I write this) it's normal, a little tender, and has normal bruising as anyone might from donating. The process is a little rough. They could ask you to sign in and the first name call, have the nurse tell you you're about to be educated to pass a test, there's a physical, a questionnaire, and if cleared, the last person should tell you the process of the actual pull and return. The techs did when I asked questions but I feel like these topics shouldn't be prompted for answers. The service was good. I feel like a grain of salt needs taken for many of the employees when observing in the waiting room. They deal with a lot of different people. It's not the doctors office for sure! The general personality is rather laid back, like dealing with retail people vs medical. I believe a good chunk of most clients are considered less savory (seems that way during my other attempts) and their office personality has conformed to such relaxed clients. read more

It seems that the quality of the experience is directly related to which staff members you encounter. Most of the techs I've had so far have been very friendly, polite and helpful. A is not. The first time I donated I nearly passed out (an M.D. had to check me out etc.). So, when I went in today, I requested that I have a second arm rest to put under my feet in case it happened again. A looked at me like I was an alien and told me that she would get one "if" it happened again. I then asked if she could slow the draw of the machine down, again, to help prevent a possible medical problem, and she didn't say anything for a good 30 seconds. She then told me that she could turn it down "a little". The whole time she was very curt and clearly annoyed by me. She seemed to think I was being dramatic? Anyway, when I started to pass out I was aided by two other techs (thank God) who were very kind and attentive (Is that so difficult?!) So, Biomat gets 3 stars and, A, hopefully gets a swift kick in the pants. Also, they tell you that the process takes about 45 minutes so, I'm not sure how I was done in 20 with the draw turned down. No wonder I nearly passed out. Have a really really really great night, A. I'll be talking to your supervisor tomorrow... An update... I continue to frequent Biomat and feel that, in the spirit of fairness, to sightly amend my previous words. Awkward as it may be, A continues to be a fixture and, I've encountered her many times since my initial experiences. While she certainly doesn't go out of her way to be kind, she has managed to be both courteous and helpful (in her own awkward way) when I have been in distress. I can't be sure if this was due to a scolding or, if i just initially caught her on a bad day. And, when I think about it, I probably would't be doing much better if I were in her shoes. I'm updating my review which apparently means, that what I wrote before vanishs. So this is what you should know about what happened .... I had a problem getting a bonus payment I earned (come in x3 in a certain 11 day period and earn bonus $$$). I met all the requirements the promotion was geared towards (people who hadn't come in for a while), but apparently this offer may have been made by someone on staff in error (I wasn't on "the list"). Although I could prove they called me about the offer, and the rep and I spoke about it in the (recorded!) telephone conversation I sadly didn't keep the text msg they sent with the offer as well. So, in Biomat USA's mind they shouldn't have to pay me because I was not on "the list". So after meeting the requirements I expected payment. Didn't get it and when I inquired where my bonus was they told me that I shouldn't have received the offer. Hmmmm, first I heard of that. Showed them the call in my call log. Told them about the text. They had the recorded phone conversation. I my mind it seems since they don't dispute that they made the offer they should have stood behind paying me regardless. Which yay!!! Yesterday I was paid my bonus!!! (even though I may have been offered the promotion in error!). Once again I can say Biomat USA is five stars with me ! read more

I actually really used to like this place and would have given it 4 stars if not for one woman who works there. Unfortunately she's almost ALWAYS there. She never wears a name tag but she's usually at the front desk. She's white, has light/medium straight brown hair just past her shoulders, a pointy nose and is a little on the chunky side. She looks friendly and has a nice, warm smile but don't let that fool you! If you approach the desk to ask a question you will get a venom spewed answer because how dare you interrupt her! She spends her time barking at donors out in the waiting room... literally. She threatens weekly deferrals if you're not standing or sitting in the right spot and she yells this too you from the desk in front of everyone, if you try to talk to the person sitting next to you she'll threaten another week long deferral because the donors can't hear when their names are being called. Now, I'm actually being nice here.I could go on and on about how vile this woman actually is and the busier the front gets the WORSE she gets. I'm guessing she's a supervisor of some sort because she's never wearing scrubs like the other girls behind the counter. I'm also guessing she's a supervisor because she has a very over inflated view of herself. For a long time I was willing to look past witnessing how she was treating people in the waiting room but now they've actually LOWERED what they pay out... not by a huge amount but it's now beyond what I'm willing to sit and tolerate especially since nowadays you're waiting in the lobby for nearly two hours before being called. Not worth it and after a very, very long stint donating at this facility, my friends and family members are done. read more

As with all plasma centers, its a volunteer process and they care for people only in the sense of wanting your plasma. For good reason, at 5000 to 7000 USD per bottle of plasma I would want you all to keep donating as well. Truth is, the staff at Biomat USA in Kalamazoo MI are very unprofessional. The physical exam portion took over 2 hours since the staff member was more concerned on talking philosophy, which i enjoy yet is unprofessional regardless. I also had several staff members break rules or dismiss them, other staff that would yell at you for shaking your foot absent mindedly. I also talked with "management" that say we have no legal rights to request evidence of quoted ideals and policy, as though their biased judgements are policy. I was always kind, respectful and calm, the staff at Biomat are not. You are as much a cash cow for them as they are for you, they just make 5-7k per bottle compared to your $50-$25. Dont be fooled with the guise of false sentiment and the better of humanity. Just look around. Let not even mention the plasma transfusions the rich and elite get regularly to help remain youthful, guess how much that costs per transfusion. Vampires guys, they dont care about individuals, no corp. does, they are systems, machines run by people. All about the bottom line. Take what I say or leave it, spare me any false notions of chilvary. read more
