I had hugged my fiancé before coming in and I didn't know some of the make up had rubbed off onto my arm. The manager said she didn't believe me because she was still getting make up off after touching my arm. She never asked why there was makeup on my arm, she just said it was not legal to alter the arm at all and was going to defer me from coming back. I could even understand this if there was a bruise underneath the make up but there was none and even after explaining she said she didn't believe me. She ended up deferring for two weeks. I understand she has a job to do but she acted like she didn't want to listen and basically said I was lying. I'll definitely go back in two weeks but this definitely soured the experience especially when right now I counting on this money for groceries. This is the only bad experience I've had but the attitude of this manager was a little over the top.

My last donation was last year. Here's why. I know it's always cold there and I prepare. It was December and I had on fleeced lined jeans, a t shirt, sweat shirt and fleece vest. I also brought my blanket and heated gloves. They provided me a warm blanket which I very much appreciated. Somewhat later I started shivering, like hyperthermic shivering. I ask if I could please get another blanket and I was told "Our policy is only one blanket" I continued to get colder (platelet donations take hours) and I asked if I could PLEASE get another blanket. Response, I will, but not everyone would this for you. Haven't been back since and I can't find a way to share my concern with the Red Cross itself or that donation center.

I was greeted with a pitiful greeting, slow service, and then sent away for "high hemoglobin" both times. She acted as if she would rather be doing anything else other than helping me. The first time, I went to a OneBlood portable location the next day and was fine. The most recent time was last week, I need to find a portable location near me soon. Lkisha, the phlebotomist, called the day before and showed up right on time. She is friendly, detailed, and very professional. I've had some difficult draws, but she has the knack. One Blood has a new location. Located in the same shopping center as Luisa's and Beyond Amazing…read moreDonuts, nice to see a new space that is still convenient to me to donate whole blood or platelets. The plus about this new office is that there are windows to see out (to the parking lot). The previous donor room was an interior room so the only things to really look at were the screens that everyone had to decide to watch the same thing. Looks like each platelet station has their own entertainment. Staffers are still great and friendly, some of them are adjusting to the new office and where all the supplies are kept. The layout of the office is not as spread out, but is a more efficient space- less walking between the history/interview rooms and the donor room. Check in is easy- make an appointment online or on site...further check in questions are done on iPads and you are ready to go. Vitals are taken in the history room and then you go donate. Always nice to know the blood is kept local and you are always thanked for donation. It gets used in the area and helps the community.
