Wasted a lot of money on bad insoles, went back for adjustment and just as bad. He talks a big game but don't waste your timr

On December 1, 2020, The Medical Board of the State of Colorado issued a Cease and Desist Order to Thomas David Chanin of The Dynamic Foot. SEE ATTACHED PHOTOS OF THE ORDER. (Someone - likely Mr. Chanin - keeps removing the photos of the Cease and Desist Order. Message me if you'd like a copy.) It appears Mr Chanin is either NOT a doctor or is unqualified to practice in Colorado. This man pretended to diagnose me by watching me walk in his door. He never asked for my medical history and, in fact, would cut me off if I attempted to share any information about my feet. When I asked if he's a podiatrist, he said "No, an MD." He also made highly inappropriate sexual innuendos. Take the time to read other negative online reviews. Notice that others who are critical of Mr Chanin are suspicious of his qualifications. He only accepts cash and is difficult to contact after the initial appointment. I have a friend in the medical field who did an extensive search for an NPI number - i.e. Mr Chanin's medical license number - to no avail. Proceed with caution!! As far as I can tell, this man simply makes an impression of your feet, hands you the quickly molded orthotics - that don't address any specific foot issues - then sends you on your way. You can get the same thing, for half the price, from a number of stores specializing in orthotics. The one positive thing I can say is he recommended good shoes and shoe stores, but his advice was the same as my podiatrist's. I read the review by "D.O." - a doctor of osteopathy perhaps? This review stated that a "Thomas Chanin" had been issued a cease and desist order by the Colorado Medical Board for the unlicensed practice of medicine. Ouch. Really? I spoke with Dr. Chanin at length before making my appointment. He carefully explained his process from start to finish. The office is beautifully decorated, immaculate and inviting. I felt like I was visiting a friend. After going through the information I had from my podiatrist we were able to analyze what I needed to support a fallen arch and a few other problems. Let me start by saying Dr Chanin knows what he's doing. It's a long appointment and you will do a lot of talking and learning about shoes and why you will likely have to change the way you think about shoes. I am a cute shoe person so I know it will be challenging for me to find shoes I do really love but I can already tell with the small changes I have made since seeing him that my feet do in fact feel better. He also didn't leave me hanging and gave me a bunch of resources to find shoes that will work for my foot. I learned a ton about different foot dynamics and why certain shows work with orthotics while others won't. I can assure you it's worth the $350 he charges for the orthotics and appointment. He does work out of his home and doesn't work with unvaccinated people. This was a huge plus for me since he is seeing people from all over the country. I came here at the end of Jan. for custom orthotics. I had surgery on both my feet and misplaced the one's my doctor at Stanford made for me. Dr. Chanin took days to reply to my three messages. Once we spoke on the phone he wouldn't even let me speak - everything you don't want in a doctor. When we met, he proceeded to explain why he doesn't keep molds of your feet and that adjustments are free. Well, I have two questions now that my feet are worse after using your products. Why would I have to come back for adjustments if custom orthotics are suppose to be made exactly for my foot? And how are your "adjustments" going to be perfect for my mechanics? Also, Dr. Chanin will make you believe everything and anything is wrong with you. If you don't have the right shoes he'll tell you to go replace your whole wardrobe. Talk about a medical professional that does not work WITH his patients. Just recently visited my orthopedic doctor at Stanford over the weekend and he was SHOCKED at what type of service I had received from Dr. Chanin. Doctor Tom should be on your short list of people to talk to if you're serious about quality orthotics. There's a very high level of patient engagement as he works with you from scheduling your initial appointment all the way to following up post visit. After scheduling your appointment, he'll tell you bring in several pairs of shoes. This is important as he wants to see the types of shoes you wear throughout the week, not just the ones you happen to have on your feet when you come in. I learned that several of my favorite pairs of casual shoes were not offering nearly enough lateral support and consequently stressing my foot unnecessarily. Before you even get to the orthotics, there's a consultation session where he works with you on areas of pain, discomfort, stress, etc. as well as doing a gait analysis. A point of difference I found was that instead of standing on a pressure sensor to gather the profile data, he brings the mold up to your foot while you sit down. The explanation is that if you're standing on a pad or sensor, your arch is already deforming while the measurements are being taken. You want the mold to match your resting arch. What I found to be interesting about his process though is the molding and shaping is all done onsite in real time. There's no sending away to far off factory to wait several weeks, you can be in and out within a few hours. Also nice, is that it's an iterative process. You'll try on your new orthotics, walk around in them for a few minutes, and talk about what you're feeling. Doctor Tom can make the adjustments for you right there either adding material, removing material, or whatever other voodoo goes on in the back. TL;DR My experience with at the Dynamic Foot with Dr. Chanin was beyond awesome. I'm really pleased and impressed. Wow! Wow! Wow! The best foot orthotics experience I've ever had. My feet are messed up, and I'm on them a lot. In the last 15 years, I've seen 9 different doctors and tried way more than 9 styles of orthotics. Dr. Tom Chanin spent more time assessing my issues and customizing my orthotics than those other doctors combined. That isn't an exaggeration. I was blown away by his care in making sure the orthotic was right. Also, I'm just really impressed by the quality and comfort of the orthotics Dr. Chanin produces. I've never had orthotics that fit as well, or feel as natural, as these. Another real benefit of going to the Dynamic Foot and seeing Dr. Chanin is that he makes and adjusts the orthotics right there and same day. Previous to seeing Dr. Chanin, I was having more foot pain than usual as my old orthotics just got really worn and were never that great to begin with. My last doctor contracted to a lab that sent multiple orthotics that were not as specified. It took a month just to get the first iteration back. My old doctor immediately identified them as not even close to what was specified. All in all, it took 4 months of back and forth to get something that was kind of close to putting my foot in the right position. All through those 4 months my foot just got more and more irritated. Truly a good guy. I started powerlifting about 6 months, and being overweight myself coupled with heavy deadlifts was starting to really hurt my ankles. After a heavy lift, I would lie in bed rotating my ankles so they would crack repeatedly. I knew this wasn't normal. I made an appt with Dr Chanin for orthotics. The appt lasted about 3 hours and he really took the time to understand what was going on. He told me it would take several days for me to get use to the new orthotics, but they felt normal that evening. I did not find the product he produced for me to be helpful. He ignored the fact that I had pain after using the product, even after adjustments. When I voiced concern about wanting to collaborate with him and my real doctors, he was un-interested in viewing my xrays and reading their reports. He told me in order to make the orthotics "work", I would have to buy thick soled mens' shoes, and wear them for the rest of my life. I did not feel this was a reasonable suggestion, given that I'm a woman, and I already wear flat, orthopedic styles by Birkenstock and others. My requests for a refund have been ignored. read more

I visited Dynamic Foot a few months ago. It was an excellent experience. I am disappointed to be writing a negative review but I am at a loss on what else to do. I have called several times and left many messages. No response. I am trying to obtain a copy of the receipt so I can submit for reimbursement to my HSA. Dr. Tom Chanin is remarkable and a great pleasure to deal with. I first visited him years ago at the advice of my podiatrist. During my first visit with him he made a pair of orthotics that immediately fixed a foot problem that I had been suffering from for years. Following recent hip surgery, my right leg was more than an inch longer than my left. I'm writing this because I hope others consider very carefully before spending time and money with this person. Not sure about his credentials whatsoever but am entirely sure that a 3-minute exam of my feet and a snap diagnosis is wrong in every way and I regret I didn't walk out the door that moment. I get the distinct feeling his diagnosis is the same for everyone. Mass production as they say. There was no discussion whatsoever about my feet, lifestyle, activities, needs or anything else. He did all the talking. Anytime I tried to offer information about my history and concerns, he dismissed them angrily. And he sure spent a lot of time, an inordinate amount of time to be exact, on footwear and then emphasized additional pairs especially for women with heels, etc. Additional pairs translates to additional money. My very active and athletic lifestyle was not addressed or helped whatsoever. Then when I asked about adjustments going forward, he became quite angry and actually straight up rude. Then when I asked about keeping a model of my feet, he said there wouldn't be one, we'd have to start over in the future. Well interestingly, dentists keep them, orthotics labs keep them, podiatrists keep them and legit doctors utilize a history of visits to assist you. And yes the body changes and needs change but it's vital to have a baseline and history to work from. That all said, if you want a real doc who works with a real lab and real orthotics, try Dr. Kevin Blue in Parker. He's a how do we help you live your life kind of doc offering an interactive consult, a thorough, plausible diagnosis and a variety of modalities. After comparing the two, wow...dynamic foot is a dynamic waste of time of money. I know there are reviews emphasizing that he spends 2-3 hours and yada yada yada. I'd rather have 30 minutes of a quality discussion, strategy and resolution any day with a licensed, practiced medical professional who can speak of his or her training, philosophies and patient outcomes. Dr. Tom is a genius, he is not a podiatrist, he is a doctor who specializes in Feet, there is a BIG difference. I had orthotics made for me by Dr. Tom in 2011, they are wearing down, but guess what- I still wear them, almost ten years later! When I first went to see Dr. Tom Chanin, I had already paid over $300 to other podiatrists and chiropractors to build my custom orthotics, and those orthotics did not help me, my foot or address the problem; they were uncomfortable to wear and a waste of money. Dr. Chanin is thorough, he listens and truly wants to help people to comfortably move again. I spent several hours with him; he makes the orthotics while to wait to make sure everything is perfect and adjusts them as well. Yes, it may take 3 hours of your life, but when it comes to your feet- isn't 3 hours' worth it? I am flying in from another state just to see him and get new orthotics as I mentioned, mine are wearing down and I am sure my feet have a whole new host of issues. I found Dr. Chanin via Yelp, so I wanted to review on Yelp as the experience was so awesome. Super nice guy, very professional, and diagnosed my feet, ankle, knee and hip issues as soon as I took my socks off! I've only had my orthotics a few days, but after a solid day of walking on day 1, no pain anywhere! Day 2 I didn't wear them - pain came right back. Wild! FYI - if you've never worn orthotics, they are a bit bulky and firm but your feet get used to them and that's why they work! I did resist some of his assessment initially, but when he demonstrated the 'before' and 'after' using my own shoes, the lightbulb went off. He is extremely nice until you tell him the orthotics don't feel comfortable and then he gets really angry with you and makes you feel uncomfortable. I have never had a more painful insole than the one he "made" for me in his shed. After having left with a horrible feeling that I had been duped you can't find any information about his credentials or anything. I went to Dr. Chanin in late January of this year, and I am incredibly happy with my orthotics! I am a physician myself and had tried numerous types of shoes, orthotics, exercises, etc after two serious ankle sprains. I have serious arch collapse and over-pronation in both feet and my gait was getting progressively worse. I had constant discomfort in my right foot, which significantly impaired my ability to walk long distances/run/ride my horse. Dr. Chanin was amazing. He spent about 3 hours with me, analyzing my feet, my gait, my shoes - and then proceeded to craft a pair of excellent orthotics right in his facility which I have worn every day since, and I'm absolutely delighted! My feet haven't been this comfortable in years. He also gave very specific recommendations about which brands/types of shoes to buy in the future and recommended a wide range of stores and online sources for finding the right shoes for my assorted needs. My husband was trying to get me to Dr Tom ever since he got insoles custom made from him. But I put up a fight because I didn't want someone to tell me what shoes I could and could not wear. After dealing with Tendonitis and PF I decided it was time to take care of my feet. So glad I did. I love running and do it constantly, but thanks to cancer and chemo I have neuropathy and other issues with my feet. Instead of dealing with them, I ran through them. The first time I went to see Dr Tom he looked at my shoes and told me exactly what has been hurting me...it was like he looked in a crystal ball. He explained why. He watched me walk, he checked out my feet and he created custom insoles while I waited. I have been running half marathons now with almost not foot pain. No more issues with PF or severe foot pain keeping me from running. Suffering from plantar fasciitis, I went to see a podiatrist, got shock wave therapy on my foot, bought new shoes, tried off the shelf inserts, but it wasn't until I got orthotics from dr. I cannot even assign one star to my experience with Tom. I have never met someone who likes to hear himself talk more than Tom. When I had a question, I literally had to interrupt his long winded diatribes. Then, he tried answering by providing completely useless analogies. Having to interrupt to ask again, he still never actually answered the question, rather I got the deer in headlights stare as if he has never been asked a question before. He claims he is there for the patient for the next two years, just call. Well, it took 3 days to get a call back the first time I called and have yet to receive a call back for the second time. It has been 2 weeks. The first time I needed an adjustment on the orthotic, he made such a deal how he was "fitting" me in and gave me options that were hardly convenient and were limited like only two option for the entire week. Again, since he "fit" me in, (yet claimed that I could come back as much as I needed) gave me less than 5 minutes to explain the issues and ask questions. Ever since I started using his products, my PF increased in the foot that originally had it but now the other foot became so inflamed I couldn't even walk. I left that detail on his voicemail in the most pleasant and respectful manner practically begging him to call me with his thoughts and insights. Still waiting. He claims he returns all his calls so there is greater care but I have many thoughts this is not the real reason. Since they are only conjecture, I will hold them back here. Be prepared to be in a substandard, old, and outdated clinic. And know in advance it isn't his clinic. It seems as if he is a squatter at this facility although that is not the case. But he has a chair in a corner of an unused examination room that seems to be used as storage room. I cannot and will not recommend this person and caution you when considering the right steps to heal your alignments. I have started treatment at a practice I heard a commercial for on KOA radio. Thus far, I can tell you how incredibly impressed I have been with the staff scheduling the appt, the assistant prior to seeing the Dr., and the incredible conversation I was able to have with the Doctor.
