We were unsure of the material we wanted to use (wood, natural stone, or brick) and it took us a long time to decide. Tony and Jolene were very patient and helpful throughout this process, giving us multiple bids and helping us understand the tradeoffs. + Excellent workmanship. I can't stress this enough. I'm a perfectionist, especially when someone else is working on my home. Tony did a fantastic job. He laid the brick out flawlessly (in spite of our undulating ground) and did a great job with the irrigation system. He even transplanted a plant to an aesthetically appealing location, when I'd expected it wouldn't survive the project. + Responsive to concerns. I called up Tony several times during the project to discuss how things were going and he was always eager to please. A couple of small things I wish had gone differently: - Scheduling. Our project wasn't urgent, and it was the rainy season. So this is no big deal. But our project did take a few weeks longer than expected. - Too nice? Tony was respectful and eager to please, almost to a fault. There were a few times during the project when I wished he had said to me, "No, that's a bad idea." (A few times w.r.t. material selection, and then another time when it came time to design the box's footprint.) We eventually made choices we were happy with but I was hoping Tony could have contributed stronger opinions to the design aspects. Initial consultation - Dan and Xochitl came to our house, where we had in-person kickoff session. We walked around the property together, where they both carefully listened to how our ideas around how to the use the space, and indulged our numerous 'newbie' questions. They are tremendously insightful, very experienced, and remarkably patient with folks like us who are new to the process. Design phase - Xochitl took all our ideas and took a couple of weeks to think deeply about what our outside space could be transformed into. And, boy did she deliver! She and Dan unveiled their vision to us at our next in-person meeting, where Xochitl had drawn out a stunning illustration of what the final design would look like. We loved it so much, it's now framed an hung on our wall. You can talk about designs all you want, but it's only when you see it in front of you that the vision truly comes to life. Execution - The team indicated when they would be available to start our project (after finishing the ones they had already committed to), and they were true to their word. And when everything got started, it was a whirlwind until completion. I don't think there was even a single day where someone from the team wasn't on-site, pushing things forward. One things start, they are fully dedicated to your project, and you can see your outdoor space transforming everyday. Finances - One thing I appreciated immensely was Dan's transparency around the finances involved. He provided a detailed, itemized quote at the on-set, and set out clear processes around payment cadence. That left no room for surprises. Of course, as with any project, we made adjustments and changed our minds on a few things along the way. Dan immediately made the necessary changes, and gave us a clear update on how that might affect costs and timing. Communication - Dan was incredible when it came to keeping us informed on progress and answering questions. He would lay out the plan for the next couple of weeks, make us aware of any decisions he needed from us, and provide timely updates as we moved into the next phases of the project. This was definitely a huge help, and very much appreciated. Final result - This was our first major landscaping endeavor, so there was a lot of blind faith put in the team, and I'm so glad we did. They completely transformed our outdoor space, both front and back. I believe the owner is Ron and not sure of his wife's name. They have better quality and significantly more knowledge than Home Depot but they don't have 10 people working there. Someday we are all going to miss having experts and artisans. As you can imagine running a business is very tough especially a nursery where you have quite a bit of overhead and attention needed for all those plants and facilities. We all work hard keeping up our homes, imagine the work needed to run a nursery. Please be considerate with the negative comments and try to be patient if the few people working there are occupied.
